Kamaru shaded his eyes with his hand the sunlight off the water didn’t bother him as much as the time it took to get to the remote island on the small pantoon he was on. His guide realizing the thoughts probably going through his head reassured him again of the time it would take. With the weather and the currents they made good time. Kamaru still hadn’t gotten use to being at sea he figured but this beat swimming out to the location or trying to get himself out there by boat personally. As the two pulled the boat onto the shore out of the reach of high tides for when they came in Kamaru surveyed the area and motioned for the guide to show him where the Doctor was last seen.
Iida Noburo was a name mentioned by the other two researchers working in Stone after being rescued. It was someone specializing in geological materials and composites and their relation to Chakra. Currently he was “supposed” to be on this island doing research. Due to the remote area a messenger went out to the location to give him the message, seeing no one at the camp site and a large hole in the middle of the site was what brought Kamaru out here. Staring down it was indeed a large hole big enough for a man to move down without crawling. Due to the shape Kamaru was pretty sure the researcher hadn’t stumbled down the hole not being able to get back up. Kamaru figured even if he had tripped and sprained or broke his leg it was still shallow enough he could have pulled himself out.
Leave it to a researcher to come out in the middle of nowhere and find trouble without noticing… Kamaru thought shaking his head.
”I’ll be back in a few.” Kamaru stated as he hopped down into the tunnel finding a light as the tunnel became darker to assist him in his search.
The tunnel Kamaru came to find out lead to a series of other tunnels eventually he came across a central area. With the slight sounds of movement Kamaru found himself moving around more cautiously and hiding his light as he moved through the dim areas. There was definitely something down here and it was big, or there were multiple things down here but they were all probably still big regardless Kamaru trekked on.
It was a surprise finding Iida in a large hole muttering and fumbling with a stone with a slight glow in the dim area. Kamaru was a little surprised by the comment when he jumped down to the man that he was ‘human’. A quick assessment and recap of what happened got Kamaru healing the man’s leg since he had actually broken it or sprained it. Kamaru new very little and ended up just creating stone pillars from the ground long enough to strap the man’s leg to with the use of his suit jacket he sighed about the man not knowing the current mindset of Kamaru now only haven’t half a useable suit. While working he was surprised by the sudden rumbling in the grounds of his camp sight. At midday he found it rather curious. From what Kamaru could gather the creature that burrowed up was susceptible to bright light blinding itself sending it scurrying back down, the researcher quite curious got to close fell in and down the hole after the beast. He found himself down in this pit area for a few days now and occasionally they would drop roots down towards him that seemed edible, there was pool of fresh water as well so in truth with little to do besides sit he found he was actually eating more regularly then when he was researching. He thought it intriguing that the beasts had possibly put him in a form of bed rest for his leg or under duress for invading. Although he wasn’t an expert on the local wildlife he had managed to find the odd stone or crystal really and started talking about its properties while Kamaru just worked on getting the man upright to move.
”Well it’s great you’ve made some new friends and all but I came to get you out of here. You can come back later to study the ro-“ Kamaru began stopping midsentence. He could hear the sounds of something coming towards them as he sank into the ground. As the researcher asked what he was doing Kamaru hand went over his mouth as he slowly slide into the earth as well.
Kamaru got a decent look at the beast as it approached in the dim light, which meant he really couldn’t tell what it was, a bit larger than a bear and bobbing its head around snorting and sniffing made Kamaru wonder what it was. After a few loud snorts that echoed throughout the area it moved off hurriedly, giving Kamaru time to figure out his next move. He had found his target and had gotten him mostly able to move around. His next option would be getting him out. Grabbing the man over his shoulder he ran up the sheer side of the pit and gently placed him down before settling himself onto the stone floor of the tunnels.
Suddenly hearing several shrill snorts from various directions Kamaru figured they had figured out he was there possibly and flung the researcher over his shoulder going into a sprint. The bad news was he couldn’t remember the quickest way out from his scouting the area. In a sense though randomly running around probably confused his pursuers as well.
Kamaru eventually found himself at a standstill when he saw a larger beast blocking the passage in front of him. He was pretty sure he saw light a ways down the tunnel. In his silent debate on what to do the researcher started mentioning the crystals and their properties. Most of it didn’t make sense to Kamaru but he did understand one thing about the whole excited debate. He apologized to the researcher finding the crystal he had on him and held it in his mouth as he put the man down performing seals quickly. The man didn’t have time to fully ask what he was doing before Kamaru had hucked the crystal under the beast behind it to where there were most crystals.
The man was too busy trying to yell at Kamaru when he was told to cover his eyes so Kamaru just grabbed him and turned him away. The explosion came but the horrific shrill screech was not expected to be that loud. Kamaru’s head was still ringing as he grabbed the man, the beast charging them half spooked by the sudden sound and bright light half still deciding between fight or flight. Moving towards the beast Kamaru carrying his target jumped at the beast moving over its back sliding down the back end into the fires and eventually out into the sunlight. Behind him her hear the shrill snorts of the beast as it slammed into the delayed attack from the Gate of Enma he had set up behind them for it to run into. He hadn’t expected the smaller explosive note to go off and have that big of an effect just enough to spook it into charging.
The guide was surprised to see the two singed people coming out of the tunnel after an explosion that eventually collapsed the tunnel up it seemed.
”Pack his research and things, we’re getting off this island.” Kamaru simply stated wiping soot from his face. His mission might be over but he had a few questions. Like what the hell was down in those tunnels?
