The picture would join the rest on the wall, on the veritable shrine to the young idol. Someday... someday my darling... you will be mine. Her image had become his obsession, ever since he first saw her. Her flier showed up mysteriously, crumbled up and rolling across the dusty earth like a tumbleweed. He had almost overlooked the small, discarded scrap. He was very thankful that he did not. When he straightened the sheet of paper, he saw the visage of the most lovely woman he had ever seen.
He needed more.
He had to have more!
Every picture was the same, as if some madman had run amuck plastering posters of the same young woman. That part was actually true. If he were ever to return, he would find the pictures sparse, despite the reprint of the advert in the newspaper that he had purchased enmasse. He gave the picture a long, lingering kiss before he taped her image to the wall. He would get more of her. He would pay top dollar for it! He would spin around, this space was paradise. She was looking at him with that big, lovely smile. He knew that she would feel the same way about him if they were ever to meet. The thought made him shudder inwardly. He did not even know her name but it did not matter. A thin thread of drool would escape the corner of his mouth. One day she would be his.
He took his hat and he took his cane. He could not wait any longer, he had the means. He had the time! Even if he lacked either, he would have found a way. And that he did, he canceled his dealings, his dalliances... He found the seediest part of the village, he knew where to find people who would find a way to make destiny happen sooner.
