"Up...Grade?" Surutameni had barely even been able to get the words out before his skull was slammed into the table before him. The boy screeched in shock, his hands struggling to find purchase on the edge of the table to get himself out from underneath the grip of the Demon Sage. He growled as he thrashed, for only a moment, before a feeling of cold and then nothing. His limbs falling dead at his sides, his eyes wide with fear as he realized he could no longer move anything. Sure, he could breathe, but the breaths he took were erratic and gasping, not at all normal for the poor boy. His amber eyes rolled to Akkuma as he was dragged farther up on the table, now close enough to those pages that he could see them for what they were.
'Wh--what's he doing to me!?' His inner self raged in its panic as he tried desperately to figure out what was going to happen. The glimpses of the pages that he caught between the moments his vision failed him weren't helping his situation in the least. The pages were covered in diagrams, one set he recognized as himself... The other; was simply terrifying.
'WHAT IS THAT THING!?' His mind screamed at him as he looked at the demonic creature depicted upon the opposing diagrams.
'No.. No, No... Nonononononono...' That single word blared through his mind as he realized exactly what was going to happen, his vision tunneled as he started at the image.
The young Shinobi blacked out for what seemed like forever, when in reality it hadn't been long at all, but when his eyes snapped open again his gaze fell upon a familiar face. Roku's to be exact, but the mednin did not seem to be pleased at all with what was transpiring here. He could feel just about everything that was happening, up until the otherworldly shinobi removed his spine. His spine. The boy managed to scream again; but the sound cracked and broke as his voice failed him, and Suru snapped his eyes shut as tight as he could. He didn't want to see any more of his insides being taken out and placed near him so he could see. The rattle of bones near his head made him crack one of those eyes open however, and he immediately wished he hadn't. He struggled against the fact that he was now paralyzed, his mind sending signals that never reached their destination. This one was of the few moments in time he allowed himself to cry, those released tears streaming silently down his face as he grew more angered by the minute. He hadn't meant something like this, and how could he have been so stupid to have thought that the demon before him would have done something else. He didn't care that he had promised him everything he wanted, he just hoped that he could pull through this without being maimed for the rest of his life. What would his new family think!? He hoped that they would accept him just as they had before, with open arms. But who would now?
'I'm going to be a monster!'That last thought shot through his mind as his very being seemed to split and his vision faded to black once more.

Mere moments after Surutameni's vision faded and his consciousness succumbed to the darkness, Unmei managed to finally find him. Although, oddly enough the bird hadn't found Suru by his screams, rather it was the immense feelings of rage and the warrior spirit that emerged. As he flew inside the now opened chamber, it only took him a moment to realize that the boy's surgery had been completed, and he settled himself above the table; watching, waiting. Being that Akkuma was a master of the darker arts and with the help of Roku, the Undead Med-nin, the transplant had been successful. Perhaps even well beyond successful, as Suru's blades had responded to his agony and suffering, levitating and slipping themselves free of their scabbards as they formed as defensive triangle around the boy. They pulsed and radiated healing energies alongside the medic who had been left behind to watch over Surutameni's recovery, while the Demon Sage himself left to inform Seika of his actions.
Unmei had always been highly intelligent and extremely swift of both wing and mind, but after the boy had bonded with the black flame sword, Jikayaki, his seals had been released and along with it his own sorcerous powers and memories. He spread his wings and dove down from his perch above Suru, and eye the scarring that ran along his new spine. The spine was that of a young Cerberus, a rather flexible and powerful one at that. Segments of the hell-hound's soul yet lingered within its spine and the connecting muscle, sinew, and other tissues sought to completely take over the youth. The tenacity of the demon-beast would have been Suru and Akkuma's undoing if Unmei did not apply himself to the task of binding the remaining energies to Surutameni and inadvertently, himself. The crow Tengu did not expect his own powers to deepen their natural bond, nor did he know how powerful Surutameni's physical capacity had become in such a short amount of time. When he landed upon the pommel of the black flame blade, it flared to life beneath his grasp and engulfed Suru's wounds. The blackened hell-fires sealed the damages and placed the mark of Garou the Spirit King or all natural beasts within the seal to ensure the boy would not become a true beast but he would be able to understand and even speak to them.
The flaming sword paired with the sorcery of the Tengu was methodical but swift and any evidence of the procedure was replaced with a perfect beast seal. The amount of life energy that Unmei had used was immense, and the feathered being blacked out beside his master. The flames of the sword were not through though, and they turned upon the crow, burning away his feathers; only to reveal a new set that were the color of steel. His face changed and became more deadly, and his beak became sharp and hooked, like that of a true bird of prey.
Through all that was going on around him, Suru found himself floating in blackness, no matter where he turned that was all he would see. A sinister voice called out to him from that darkness, and he could not make sense of what it said.
"----------." The boy tried to move closer to the sound, but he could not tell where he was. He knew he was within his own mind and that all of what had and was still happening to his body was because he had trusted the Demon Sage.
"Is that really the truth?" The voice taunted him as he was finally able to make out what it said. The more the boy thought the more the voice responded, it was dark and rumbling, and something about it just wasn't right.
"You wanted this... You needed this... You NEEDED... ME!" Blood red eyes peered from behind that darkness as the last statement erupted forth, causing the young shinobi to fall backwards, if that was even possible within his own mind.
"No! Go away!" He shouted at the thing. This could only be the creature who's spine was now his. It chuckled at him and the eyes disappeared only to emerge once more behind him.
"Tch.. You don't really mean that do you?" The boy jumped to his feet and spun around, unable to completely comprehend what was going on within his mind.
"Go AWAY!" He yelled again at those staring eyes that slowly blinked at him. Their gaze was demonic in their attention, and they only served to make him feel like a slab of meat on a platter.
"What a pity... You wound me, Suru.... One day soon though, we will...." The voice paused and from the inky blackness Suru could see large teeth being exposed in a strange and twisted smile.
"...Play." As the last word was uttered and he sank to his knees, clutching his face within his hands, the eyes and mouth faded, and the scenery around him changed.
When he looked up again, he found himself seated before a familiar face, no longer drowning from the darkness that had threatened to take him. The space they occupied was far brighter, and it took on the form of the Astral Plane. It was Unmei, but he had taken on a more human appearance. His face was sharp featured, his eyes were like that of a bird of prey; keen and piercing, and his silvery hair fell around his face only to end in subtle feathering. For a brief moment his form shimmered and shifted, leaving him fully as a Tengu hawk and then back to a more human form. Suru opened his mouth for a moment to ask him what was going on, and the bird-man before him raised his hand and a single finger touched his lips, thus silencing the shinobi.
"All in due time... For now, we must discuss what has transpired. What has happened to your body and what has happened between us." Suru blinked slowly, he had not expected to be sitting down to have a chat with his bird, when only moments before he had been scared for his very life.
"It seems we can truly understand each other now, my Lord. You have gone through so much in such a short time but with me here, and the sacred blades to guide you... All shall be well. Fret not my young master." Unmei bowed his head slightly, offering Suru at least that much respect. The pair sat within the Astral Plane and spoke of many things, of their thoughts, ideas, and even their very desires. Everything they spoke of was exchanged at the speed of thought, and it only took them a few hours to share their short lifetimes with one another intimately. Suru gained a new respect for his close friend who had been with him for the last few years, and their bond became ever stronger. The more they talked the more at ease he felt, and eventually they ran out of things to speak of and they stared off, enjoying the silence for once.
"It is time for us to go back, little lord. Wake up, and experience the world anew."
The Astral Plane faded once more into darkness, but Suru did not remain there for long as his eyes cracked open and he looked upon the smooth surface of the table he had been slammed upon only hours earlier. His vision was still wavering as he looked around the room as best he could, and spotted the form of a steel grey hawk, who he could only assume was Unmei, laying unconscious next to him. The medic, Roku was there still, staring at the boy, watching him to see if anything was going wrong. The weapons by now had calmed and returned to their scabbards, their energies wrapping around him in subtle waves to ensure his survival. Once he had managed to take in the entire situation and noticed that Akkuma had indeed left, Suru allowed himself to fade back into darkness, though this time it was filled with simple dreams and he was allowed to fall into a restful and repairing slumber.
