The words of Megumi Tanigawa would ring heavy in the boy's mind. All things he was slowly coming to terms with, every day his resolve strengthened and every day a new way of thinking would present itself to him. The only thing she disagreed with, was that your inward thoughts and emotions weren't necessarily for the betterment of anything. Yama respected that opinion, but deep down in his heart of hearts he believed that the world was inherently good and that what made it bad was the actions of those who had chosen to let this goodness soar away from themselves, which then through their actions would only beget more pain and suffering. Yama finished picking up the basket and brushed the rest of the dirt of the day off of his body. Having watched Megumi sail away into the night meant that there was nothing else keeping him here. However, just before the boy was about to leave was when he had the encounter with the four hooded figures.
An air of mystery would paint itself even further on the life of Megumi after this moment, and Yama also recognized that these four cloaked figures could definitely go through with whatever threats they were mentioning. Listening to the threatening voices, he was defensive but also unabashed by what they were saying and held his head eye, his face twisting a little bit into one of stubbornness and determination. When the cloaked figures had descended back into the night, Yama spent a few minutes reflecting on what had just transpired. Was Megumi a part of some rich caste of people that sheltered their daughter away from the world? Or was this a more sinister motive? Whatever the case was, as he walked home for the night the young girl stayed on his mind.
Megumi Tanigawa had become Yama's first real friend in the village, the beginnings of a bond. He would not let some robed hooligans take that away from him.
