Kaein is a very proud individual, and he's not afraid to show it. From the way he carries himself, it's clear he suffers from a tad bit of arrogance and egoism. He is stubborn, confident, and, ultimately, very independent. He doesn't accept help lightly, feeling more comfortable with working solo. It's more common for other people to get in his way, than to actually provide aid. So, when it comes to getting the job done-- he's a soloist. Better stay out of his way!
That isn't to say that he doesn't mind company, of course! When not out training or studying, he often wanders the village looking for something to amuse him. He doesn't mind socializing when the time is right, particularly when he has something to brag about, even if that means the dismay of his friends. With that said, he's got a great sense of humor. He becomes a social butterfly when around those he trusts and enjoys the company of. Getting to know him well enough for that can be a challenge for some, since he has no interest in putting forth the effort in befriending those who whom are weak. He looks down on those not able to fend for themselves, feeling quite annoyed when he could be doing something better, more fun, instead.
He looks at the paths before him only if they benefit him immediately (preferably) or in the long run. If there is no personal gain, he's more likely to disregard and ignore it, rather than risk traversing down it. In his eyes, Toriyama Kaien is the most important person around and that's his story-- and he's sticking to it.
History: Kaien is the child of a single woman whom pampers and heeds his beck and call. She gave birth to her only son after her fiance left her when he discovered she was pregnant. When her lover left her, all she had was Kaien. She named him in the name of his father. Her love for her ex-fiance still runs thick in her veins, foolishly believing that he'll one day return to her. So, she poured her heart into raising her sole child to be the image of his father. She gave him the best she could afford from the moment he came into the world. If he wanted something, she would buy it for him. Kaien was never taught the word "no" and what it meant. He was raised in a world where he was king and no one else mattered. This, obviously, brought about issues between his mother and her family. There is a rift between Kaien's mother and her mother that knows no depth. His grandmother, and grandfather, look down at him with pity and disdain. No child should be raised without boundaries.
A year and a half ago, Kaien's desire to become a Shinobi came to light. He had been raised around them, most of his mother's family being accomplished Shinobi. But, there was one incident that pursued Kaien's mind. He came face to face with a spider. The spider had Kaien pinned against the back wall of an alley. However, a Shinobi walked by and just happened to step on it-- Saving Kaien from certain death! His fascination with the daring, fearlessness of the Shinobi to simply step on the spider, and not even notice, was a miraculous thing-- admirable even! Kaien returned home, that day, and demanded that his mother allow him to partake in the Shinobi Academy. And, that is where he currently spends most of his time.
