Name:
Uchiha Akane
Age:
10
Gender:
Female
Physical Description:
Akane stand at 5'2", a petite figure with pale skin that contrasts against her long, vibrant red hair that she keeps in long twin tails. She has delicate features with a sharp chin, small nose and maroon eyes. Her light frame and small size make her a less than imposing figure though certainly a cute and easy to underestimate one. As an academy student she hasn't started taking up the attire of a proper shinobi and thus usually wears light, casual clothing, preferably light shirts and skirts that let her enjoy the pleasant air of the Leaf.
Personality Description:
Akane is a bright, friendly and polite child, always ready to learn, play and make friends. She's outgoing and determined, putting her all into everything she does. On the surface she doesn't seem different from any other young, naive child her age. None of this behavior is an act but it does draw attention away from her less pronounced aspects. She's incredibly intelligent for her age, both quick witted and well read. She practices and trains religiously but rarely brags or brings attention to it. She's an opportunist, always looking for the right time to talk to the right person and get in their good graces. What she claims to know, both in terms of information and experience, are often underplayed with her childish disposition. She has a spark of ambition hidden behind her eyes, one that's growing with each day.
History:
It all began with Akane's parents. Uchiha Shoda was a minor member of the side branch of the Uchiha clan, an easy to forget man with few skills and a nonexistent reputation. His marriage to his wife Aoba was uneventful to what few took note of it. It wasn't until they'd been together long enough to have a child old enough to start walking that things began to change. Shoda, a weak shinobi that lacked bravery or strength, chose to revoke any claim to the clan he had and live a quiet life in the village with his wife and daughter. While to the public eye this was treated with courtesy and grace, in reality there was a small uproar within the clan. While cutting ties with them had been well intended, it was taken as an insult. Not only was he throwing away what little gifts he had but he was denying his children and their descendants the right to let their potential blossom without the clan to cultivate it.
None of it mattered to Shoda and Aoba. They left without any regrets, settling into a commoner's life and bringing up their baby daughter. They named her Akane - 'deep red' - after her distinct hair and for a time she was as happy as could be. Until she grew old enough to start asking questions. Questions that made her parents uncomfortable. Who were the rest of their family? Why didn't they ever go see them? Were they the people with the intense eyes and sigil on their clothes that looked at her sternly when they passed? Rarely did she get any answers but she was okay with that. Her father would tell her if it was important, right?
It was a pair of these men with the red and white insignia that made her realize how dangerous this naivety was. She was only eight when two members of the Uchiha side branch came across her playing in the streets one evening. They recognized her as the daughter of the coward Shoda and were among a handful of the Uchiha who thought his excommunication should have been more thorough. Before Akane knew what was happening they'd grabbed her and started to beat her - not with the intent to kill. Simply to send a message to the man who should have never been called Uchiha.
Fear, pain, confusion. None of this made any sense to the child. Why were these strangers would do this? It was enough to awaken something in her, a potent power within her eyes and blood, but she was just a child against two men who shared that same blood. The only thing that kept her from being crippled for life was the intervention of a young woman - Uchiha Asuka. It was utter chance that she stumbled upon the crime and it was fast thinking that let her take them down before it was too late. Despite her loyalty to the clan and her own thoughts about Akane's father, she thought it was unacceptable to take out this feud on a child.
Asuka took the girl to her home, to parents shocked and appalled that anyone could do this to their daughter. While Akane allowed the sleep of exhaustion to take her, her savior spoke to the girl's parents. Clearly this had been a risk ever since they left and it had been naive of Shoda and Aoba to think that they could live in the village and not face retribution from the Uchiha. Not when they held such power here. They were given an ultimatum: risk this or worse befalling his loved ones or return the child they'd tried to deny the clan back to them. Asuka herself promised to help raise the child and in the end they felt they had little choice but to accept.
Akane was never the same after that evening, even more so when it was decided she should leave home to live with those same people with the intense eyes she'd always felt so nervous about. She missed her parents and home but as she began her new life, her new caretaker did what her parents had never done. She told her everything. About how what he'd done was wrong, about how he knew it'd be dangerous and did it anyways. About all the choices he made for her and her future before she was even born. She believed ever word of it and inevitably it cut whatever love she held for her parents out of her heart.
That wasn't all. The physical wounds from the attack took a few weeks to heal but what it did to her mind was far more definitive. The feeling of weakness and fear, of being unable to do anything in the face of a foe that could have killed her. That trauma fused with her growing understanding of her bloodline planted a seed of ambition in her mind. She wanted to get strong, to never be bowed, belittled or controlled again. And of course her loving new onēsan would help her down that path.
