Before leaving the clan house to study about fighting skills, his father gave him what have become his principle in life: "One's strength is determined from one's ability to learn." He was given Razor-Sharp Sword, or 'Shin-ken', as a symbol of Uesugi clan's existence and power. His father said to him to only unsheathe the sword when Sagara feels ready enough, and until now he's not ready.. Not until he passed the test to himself; to learn endlessly in the world of shinobi.
