Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

"I still can't believe they stuck us together given how we met." Kino's voice came out clear and yet quiet. Half the job was to be quiet during this survey. The less thing or people knew the pair was out there, the less chance of them actually getting into some sort of trouble. But maybe they'd be lucky and there would actually be someone in these mines, even if the WPA said it wasn't valuable these contracts tend to not always be truthful. After all, if it wasn't useful they just have them blow it and seal it off once we confirmed their were no animals inside. "Man this shit reeks of weird.. See anything?" Kino asked as he handed the pair of binoculars over to Sota.

Dozens of wrongdoings result in this moment, right here: stood atop overgrown moss and other earthly terrain, lodged behind the cover of a gigantic tree stump, next to whom Sota can only describe as a complete loser. On the worst mission imaginable, no less. And, yes, he could've done more than to simply skim over words, but the boy knew his limitations (attention span coming out on top). What the brat didn't know was that — of all days — God would pick this one to voice his discontent with him. And, whats's there to say that sennin-freak had nothing to do with it? No, Sota thinks he did. Thinks he's trying to teach him another one of his endless lessons, that he'd planned for the two brats that butted heads just days prior to be teamed up for a mission. A thought that has his face pulled in a scowl from minute one of meeting Kino.

Scowl's tightened at the remark. In return, Sota offers a huff. "Don't worry, shit's on me." Vague, and it's best left as such. While he'd love to add banter where banter isn't due, Kino's sudden act of casualness has him stumped in silence. Perhaps his memory was bad. Being the good kid that Sota is, he decides to remind him;

"So, no hard feelings then? What, with the stabbing and all."

When he extends his hand to receive the binoculars, he cleans the frown from his face and offers something with less ire to his teammate.

Kino leans on the tree stump and sighs, "Ya no hard feelings, I get it I think.." His words were still floating in that weird space between whisper and talk. "I think that with the fact we both got stuck on this.. It was some kind of punishment for both of us. Best way to spite them is for us to just make nice and get it done." He looked over his shoulder and then got quiet as he took in the surroundings.

On the other end of the binoculars a quick dash of movement would make its way into the opening of the cave. The silence of the movement wasn't unfamiliar to either of them, though only Sota would see it. Then there were a handful more, the numbers weren't clear as the movement was quick. One thing was certain though, something was occupying this cave and it was definitely not the local fauna

Kino would take a step toward away from the mine and look out behind them while Sota was focused on the mine. It had grown quiet, and in the jungle there was never a good reason for that. He scanned the trees hoping to catch a look at anything, but all he could see was the evening clouds and fog rolling between the trees. In that quiet, the moment before Sota could express what he was seeing, that's when it happened.

Two kunai landed in the stump directly next to kino. But Sota swore he heard three thuds, no not thuds, one was a squelch. There was a moment of pause where the area fell absolutely silent as the pair were caught off guard.

Kino looked down as one of the kunai made its mark, missing vitals but still landing directly in his abdomen. His hand slowly touched the crimson soaking through his clothing, the wet red transfering to his fingertips. He placed a hand on Sota and yanked, the pair falling behind a fallen tree that laid next to the stump. "F.. Fucking.. Ah.. Sh..God" he let out as he looked down, "simple mission, no bullshit, that's what they said right?"

Sota wanted to go no. Best way to spite them is to fuck up the mission and raise hell with their superiors. Show 'em that they won't bend to their will. But, once again, Kino doesn't strike him as the right type to suggest any of this to. A shame, considering the rumors that Kino surrounds himself with. But if Sota had wanted to spend this time dawdling, he's not given any chances to do so.

Shadows zip across the cave's entry, directly in his line of sight, and with the appropriate number of what warrants alarm. So, he shuffles in his position, angles his chin as to pass Kino a look. Kid beats him to it, begins to react, only for —

THUDTHUD

Two blades are pinned within bark; a mutual agreement that both parties have spotted one another. There's a third sound that Sota can't quickly locate. Not on the first nor the second glance over his shoulder, but perhaps the third. Whips his head around, finds it in the form of red. Like an open faucet, leaking over Kino's shirt and adding viscera to the stink in the air. Then, and despite Kino's new handicap, they're thrust back behind the safety of their wooden wall.

"Nice catch," comes out dry. Would've made a good joke in different circumstances.

But he's now stuck with the aftermath. He abandons the binoculars — knows this much. But, when his hands move back at his sides, Sota realizes he doesn't know what comes next. What the hell did they teach in medical class again? Knowledge about blocking the wound, preventing further blood loss is lost to the wind. He half considers spending a minute ripping Kino's shirt, but he figures he'll make do with what he can. As to avoid wasting time, of course.

"Don't complain, shit just got a whole lot more fun." Here, his crown perks, faces away from his teammate. He doesn't stop the corners of his lips from curling. A twisted thought runs its course through his mind, and suddenly —

back out in the open Sota goes, kunai drawn in one hand, a cord in the other. He allows his excitement to unload in laughter, and readies to block any incoming projectiles as he makes his way to the enemy's side.

Kino's eyes rolled at the joke, but hearing the second remark.. He was right. Kino knew in his heart of hearts this was exactly the kind of thing he was hoping for. As the distraction ran out laughing like a maniac, kino laid low and scanned the trees. One, two, three, four. One Kunai leaves trees for Sota, two Sota blocks it, angle of throw and deflect reveals location, three I relay that information, and four.. I.. Let go. Kino was wrapping his wound best he could while waiting for the interaction to go as planned.

A moment passes then a kunai whips toward Sota, the angle is the tell Kino was looking for. Sota would see two others rushing in to strike as he jumped out, one toward him one toward Kino. There is a third off a ways who yells out,

"Kill the kids, we got it. I'm going!"

The fourth man that had made himself known in that moment took off as if without any sort of effort. Almost as if he is darting on the wind itself. The two footmen closed the gaps quickly.

Kino looks over to watch the pair of flanking footmen shinobi rush in. He throws his Kunai out to the tree as a mark for Sota, before turning his intention to the one closing the distance. "Sota kunai tree" he yelled out before throwing his arm up to catch the swinging arm of the assaulter. The man infront of him wore a headband, but its former leaf insignia was scratched through entirely.

In a combination of moves, Kino lit his hand with lightning using his thunderfist in combined with his four hit combo. One lands, two blocked, three lands, and four, on the fourth swing he slams his had directly into the shinobi's chest. His thunder turning into a rapidly expanding force of wind. His chakra focus was better, he was switching between techniques in a way that was so foreign to his previous self. This was.. Fun for him.

The shinobi flew back and slammed against the trunk of the tree that the pair had done their surveillance from. Kino would hold his abdomen and look over toward Sota hoping that he had, no not hoping, knowing he was keeping up.

Clashing of blades; how familiar of a song that Sota had yearned to hear again. He's light on his feet, pouring all of his strength in the arm that carries his only form of defense. In the other, he's rotating his wrist and tightening knuckles til they pale. Metal claps together. His kunai cries in a high pitch when it collides with his opponent's. A fist flies out, nearly striking him dead in the eye, so he lets his balance slip, dances on one heel and shoves the other in the man's chest. A harmless kick considering Sota's weight, but a much needed move to support the boy as he takes to the sky and launches himself backwards in the air. Then, in all but a split moment, the handle of the kunai is placed in his mouth, and with a free hand he produces three, rapid hand seals.

"Wa'r releath: wa'r whib." Muffled words are quickly followed by the explosion of chakra, lining itself along his wire and crackling against the air like a true whip. It snaps the wind in half before jerking back down on the shinobi, coming down like a cleaver over his shoulder.

"THAT IT?" Sota barks out, expression contorting. Suddenly: "And YOU." He throws a finger in Kino's direction, nearly striking himself with his chakra-infused weapon. "You a fuckin' actor? How'd you get back on your feet so fast?"

Sees the hand that settles upon Kino's injury, furrows his brows anyway. Like he's trying out for the circus. "The hell you waiting for? What, stillneedmyhelp?Okaygodfine, watch. Got an idea." Little detail is provided. You see, although Sota liked to bark, he was always better at biting. Wouldn't know how to explain with words, so he offers one of his god-trusted demonstrations. Goes something like this:

a whip made of water, rising and coming back down, wrapping itself over Kino's body like a tendril capturing its prey — perhaps even pressing up against the wound that decorates his side — and tightening. Without another second wasted, pulls, and hurls Kino across the five yards to the third shinobi who'd been working on his escape. "GO GET 'IM, KINO!" he makes sure to imitate his teammate's cry from before.

All that is to say Kino doesn't simply step out of the whip's way. Which, in hindsight — if he values his life and decides against taking on the idea of some redheaded brat, then — Sota's whip simply misses and slams into the earth instead.

Kino was about to say a snarky remark when suddenly he found himself launched into the air "FU...." His eyes pinned on the shinobi he was being launched at, and his brain began to count once again. However it stopped as a soaring pain shot up hi body, like a searing heat that crawled up his flesh. His eye felt like they were moving faster than his mind could comprehend. Kino let out a scream as chakra burst forth from him in all directions like a roaring flame.

He bounced and skid off the ground, his rolling turned into a feral sprint on all fours. He pounced on the man as he fled.

"Fu.. " The man landed on his back and let out a series of screams and then fell silent.

Kino made no sound, other than the continued pounding that could be heard as he landed blow, after blow, after blow.. His body was moving too fast to think, it was pure wild instinct. It was almost as if all that energy he had ignored since entering the academy was now coming out in a wild feral form. He slowly stood crimson dripping from his hands, turning to look at Sota, who from this distance could still feel his eyes burning on him. Something else though, there was more, he looked wrong so very, very wrong.

He started to walk toward Sota, a calm but terrifying energy. "Y̸͉͝O̶͖͓͌̆Ứ̸͖!̴͈͛̈́ ̸̯̈́ ̶͙̄ ̶̥͘Ỵ̸̺̔̚o̶̼̿̐u̸̢̪̽.̷͚̇̀ ̴̛͖͓͒ ̴̭̹͛B̶̮̔a̷̦͌́s̸͈̤̕t̷͉͈͊ă̵̡͇r̴͖̼̾̊d̸̙̤̐!̷̖͎́̂" (you, you bastard) Kino yelled out with what sound to be multiple voices. His walk turned into a run, then a feral sprint, toward Sota. He was not appearing like himself and the closer he got the more obvious it was. Just before he got to Sota there was a feral scream that sounded as if ten voices left his mouth at once. He fell to the ground skidding past as he screamed out in pain. Part of him was fighting this, as if there was something acting in his stead. He didn't want this, right? No, Kino didn't. He didn't..

Kino's oddly changed form was screaming and flailing around in pain "N̸̨̑̈O̵̻̱̎̓O̴̲̫̎̕ ̷̨̺͖͑͊͑I̷̪̅ ̵̺̕͘ͅD̶̞̮͗̕͜Ỏ̴̧̠ͅN̴̖͋̀̑T̸̤̩̙͗̕͝ ̵͔͎̹͐̓W̷̬͑Á̵͇̪N̷̗͉͔̓T̸͇̜̄̇̄ ̷̧͎͎̐̽͠T̴̤͕̜̑̓̚H̸͔̩̀Ī̵̝͐̎S̴̢̼͛̃ ̸̪͗S̵̺͍̊̅̾T̴̙̼̕Ö̵̥́P̸̳̋̈̈́P̵̳̙̩̓̅̓P̷͍̍̆̾P̶̝͋P̶̛̪̞̈̐!̷̪̠̑͘" (Noo I DON'T WANT THIS STOPPP!) He then passed out and reverted to his normal self.

Sota freezes in his spot. Watches a visceral canvas grow in size, borrow the air from his lungs. Hears it tell him a-many things. For one, that he truly has no idea who Kino is. And he'd never argued that he did, but — with every sound echoing from knuckles against skin — Sota is hammered with the reminder. Somewhere in the depths of his mind: hears it. That familiar stream that whispers to him words of comfort. But the growing stench of carcass spins him back to the moment before he can guess whom the bloodstream belongs to; feels as though he's freed a beast from another time.

By the way, said beast begins to fucking beeline for him. Careful at first, as if burdened by the weight of its bloody cloak. Then, not so very careful. In fact, lunges for him like a starved animal. And a thousand cries suggest to him that Kino may be just that: starved, for what — Sota doesn't give a shit to find out right now. Pulls up his kunai, and tries to still his shaky hands as they push it in front of him.

It doesn't go very far. Kino treks past him, into the ground, and just as Sota remembers to turn and silence the wails with a thrust of his blade, wild Kino becomes dead Kino. Or unconscious, or whatever. Sota isn't gonna check.

So he stops. And a moment feels like ten. Seconds are felt like minutes.

Finally, a breath crawls its way out of his throat, and he returns the blade by his side. Cocks his brows and tightens his jaw when the first — and only — face to cross his mind is Keniwa. Because truly: fuck.

Jackal and Tanuki arrived on the arse-end of a bad situation. Descending into the old mine, both man and dog only witnessed the aftermath of what had taken place here. The briefing said it was to be a simple mission, but obviously, something worse had transpired, and the Inuzuka had his orders from the Sennin to investigate and rescue the two students who had been ambushed. What was more, he knew both of them.

"Sota. Status report, soldier. Are you hurt?"

The masked man descended upon the scene at once, taking stock of the area before him, seeing the boy he had disciplined for an attempted assault, and one of his students unconscious on the ground. The masked ANBU agent was joined by an exact clone of himself who immediately approached Sota, grunting like caveman, as if unable to speak human, and baring his path.

"I want a full report of what happened here. You will give it to Tanuki," the masked man said, pointing to his clone who stared imperiously at Sota.
120-1208237_photo-by-tayla-perotta-anbu-black-ops-wolf.png

The first man, Jackal, knelt by Kino and began checking his vitals, listening for a pulse and then subsequently trying to wake him. He could smell it. Cursed chakra. The very scent of it turned his stomach, but more troublingly, he felt some sort of presence inside him prick up its ears, sniffing the air curiously. He buried the sensation.

"Kino. Can you hear me? Get up. Now."

If Kino still didn't wake, Jackal would examine for any injuries, looking for anything that might endanger his life.

"The Sennin sent me," Jackal explained as his eyes fell upon Sota, eyeing him appraisingly, "please, the full moon is tonight, and we must return to the village before nightfall."

Kino's body moved gently as his eyes opened slowly, his fingertips burnt as if stuck directly into an open flame. He looked around the seen then down to his abdomen, there was a lot more blood then he remembered, "I.. Fuck.." He fell back unconscious once more this time due to chakra useage and blood loss. He wasn't able to piece it all together in the brief moment he was awake. But in his mind, a whole new battle was erupting...

590297fbdab7aab14097bc5a94ea557a.jpeg

Kino awoke, but not in any sort of place he could recognise, rather a state between those things. A place not of his own making within his mind but the dark recesses of it. He felt the gaze of a figure watching him and his eyes met someone standing there in the twisting fate before him.

"Wh.. Who are you, what is this some sort of genjutsu? Where's Sota?"

"Please you don't give a damn, you only care because he was a meal ticket this time around."

"wh.. what are you talking about SHUT UP! SHUT THE FU.." His words cut short, as the voice left not the figure in the distance but his own body. His mouth moved with every word it spoke. If this was Genjutsu it was on a level he had never seen.

"You cannot lie to yourself, No matter how pathetic we became once you leashed our strength.. You can not say something YOU do not believe."

Kino blinked and the man was gone the spiral remained as he was stuck waiting to escape this.

Kino laid unflinching as he could not snap out of his unconscious state. He had lost a lot of blood, and unfortunately his acrobatic stunts had caused the wound to open more deeply than before. He was actively turning a grey pale color as his breaths became shallow and raspy.

Again, Sota freezes. Nearly hurls the blade in hand at the incoming party. Finds familiar blue marks lined across an ANBU's mask and halts mid-throw.

Fuck.

"First of all; it wasn't me." Whether it was the disfigured lump of meat lying on the ground or his teammate who, to a lesser extent, also bled on the ground — Sota had nothing to do with it.

Waitwait, did he just ask if Sota was hurt? The boy cocks his brows but avoids the question.

When an exact replica appears next, begins to approach him, he tightens his grip on his weapon. Prepares to step back, and trains his attention on the ANBU that staggers in his speech. Tanuki, or something.

"Dunno. We got ambushed 'n he went crazy. Maybe he's just weak."

A wince travels up his brow, and he remembers what the Inuzuka had told him days prior. A long exhale drags out of him a new answer: "two missing-nin dead, the third... fucked," here, gestures with his chin towards the mutilated corpse nearby, "all thanks to this freak who is — as you can already tell — injured in his stomach. Got hit by a kunai."

"Huh, so you got jumped? You look like you both handled yourselves pretty well," said the agent, a little note of pride in his voice, his eyes very soft, albeit haggard and baggy as they met Sota's from behind the mask. The approaching full moon was already taking its toll on the Inuzuka, leaving him pretty pale and sickly, and perhaps not entirely put-together mentally. Still, he could manage just fine.

"He went... crazy? And you say you're definitely not hurt, right?"

Something was definitely wrong with the poor guy on the ground, besides his stab wound. He could smell the traces of cursed chakra, much like he had done when face to face with Otakemaru... There could only be one common denominator there. Tanuki made a very guttural grunting growl at Sota, which Jackal immediately translated.

"He says, could you describe the symptoms Kino experienced, in as much detail as you can?"

Jackal was getting to work at the sight of the injury already. He wasn't a medic, by any stretch of the imagination, but, his superior officer being a seasoned surgeon, he had at least taught him the basics of field medicine. Avoiding removing the kunai, he placed his hands over the injury after performing a set of handsigns. With a faint greenish glow, the blood flow began to slow, coagulating around the embedded implement until it formed a giant scab. At least now, he wouldn't bleed out, but he still needed the hospital. Once the crisis had been mitigated, he cast a look over at the lump of flesh festering on the ground and felt an odd tinge in his stomach, and a strange sort of urge. He repressed it quickly, turning his attention back on Kino. With a grunt, he heaved the injured boy onto his book and looked back at Sota.

"As I say. We need to return to Konoha before the moon comes up. We can talk on the way."

"No," he spits back. "Fuck do I look like? A doctor?"

A hand rises, roughly scratches the back of his hair into a new mess of curls. There's a hint here and there; body turning to face the side, shoulders hunched, eyes glancing in the distance. Between him and Kino, Sota's ego comes first. Doesn't interest him a bit to confess that he'd nearly gotten attack by his own teammate. That he'd frozen up in response. That suggested fear. There was no getting him to uncover the happenings of today.

Suddenly, his head shoves back in the trio's direction. "Look, nobody's hurt — well, I guess he is. But aside from that, shit's over. He probably just had an allergy reaction or something." One glimpse of the lifeless body on the ground is enough to disprove this but Sota blabbers on: "Mission is completed and my home's probably in the opposite direction of wherever you're going. So. We done?"

A flavorless look settles on the speaking ANBU. As if awaiting dismissal. Which is more respect than Sota is used to giving.

Jackal closed his eyes for a moment, as if praying for patience. In fact, it took a great deal of mental energy to stop the next words coming out of his mouth from being 'listen here, you little shit.'

This wasn't throwaway information, what Kino had done, and he suspected what had happened, but he wanted the confirmation before rushing to conclusions. In fact, he seemed so caught up in getting this information, he seemed to have forgotten all about returning to Konoha in as swift a time as possible.

"Just answer this question. And before you do, cast our mind back to Hokage Rock," said Jackal slowly and deliberately, making unblinking eye contact, something hungry stirring behind those eyes as the sky got darker, and think very carefully before lying to me, kid. When he went 'crazy', what happened to his skin?"

Pearls clamp down and bare, shooting fire into the muscles of his jaw. Unlike Keiyaku's patience, Sota's isn't half as impressive, and up until this point, he'd been god-awfully-proud of it.

"What?" he snarls, "you need a toy to play with again, you sick fuck?" Sota's feet plant firm against the ground, his hands yank out of his pockets. Any lingering signs of respect are peeled from his person. Clearly doesn't take well to threats. Also clear: never knows to put authority above his own pride. Never learned to. What's more, he fails to see the number of two, or the mask that suggests years' worth of experience his senior. Is ready to take them both of them on if it means he can move on with his day.

"How 'bout you do your own fucking job and quit bothering me with shit I don't know?" Which, unfortunately was true. Sota hadn't seen any changes in Kino's skin. Aside from the wailing of many, animal posture, and sudden thirst for blood, Sota hadn't seen any cosmetic changes.

It was rising within him again, that thick, tar-like something, filling his chest and throat, that he knew to be otherworldly cruelty, and an anger that certainly was not his own. The taste of blood and flesh stained the back of his throat as he looked down at the indignant boy. He closed his eyes, willing it to recede, but the more swiftly night came, the more of an impossible task it became.

"Just... get back to the villa-ggrrhhh," the ANBU said, his voice trailing off into a sudden, very unhumanlike growl, almost like a strange verbal tick. The ANBU's clone took him by the arm and began pulling him away, looking at him with utmost fear and concern. It was pretty dark now - would he be able to make it back in time before it started? What was more, he needed to get Kino to the Byoin before his condition worsened.

Not pausing to open his mouth again for fear of what might come out, he let Tanuki drag him away, and they did their best to make it back to the village.

Slowly, digits uncurl. The sight rings a familiar alarm; a reminder to what Sota had witnessed just minutes prior. It wasn't his place to question nor did he feel the need to. Perhaps, if he'd paid mind in class, maybe then he'd have a chance at deciphering either Kino or the ANBU — but alas. Sota knew some of his limits. This was one.

Sota takes one reluctant step backwards. Spins on a foot, and moves out. Pushes himself up — jumps and retreats into the night. Back towards the village.
