A day like many before consisting of crawling out of bed getting dressed and stumbling to the table for breakfast. Yawning Shin ate his breakfast quickly as to head out the door to get some weekend training in. "I'm out thank you sis for breakfast" He said while heading for the front door only to be stopped.
"Shin before you go train I have a job for you." His sister said with a simple smile. "This woman is looking for her father's old Katana that seems to have been taken by a young boy. The Katana has a deep red saya with gold patterns on it and has several silver charms that hang from the tsuba." She explained to him. "Ok I will go find it then."
Shin felt compelled to find this sword for the woman for his own reasons since his father and mother had vanished when he was very young without a word. He set out to the area of where the sword was taken from to search for clues or any witnesses to help him be able to track down the item. After a while of searching he began to find some clues it seemed as to where the thief may be located. Shin had found an old man who seemed to have witnessed a young lad carrying something in a hurry that was possibly a sword.
"Ah yes I believe I did see a young lad running down towards that end of town with something but I don't know if it was a sword it was covered" The man pointed towards the direction the boy ran towards. "Oh if it helps the boy looked rather rough like he had seen better days if you know what I mean." He added
Shin wondered what the old man meant by those words as he headed down towards the location the thief may have gone. As Shin reached the location he noticed several houses that had seen better years. The roofs and walls were in bad shape as showing the wear and tear of the years almost like they had been left to be forgotten by their owners. He looked around for a few and over heard a group of kids inside one of the homes talking about selling the item that had been stolen. "If we can sell this we may have enough to get some better food for a while and at least some warmer clothes to wear." The boy holding the sword said looking at 2 younger children who also looked to have seen better days
.
Shin sighed he now knew their reasons for taking the sword was not so much for greed or malice but for survival. Shin opened the door to the house and to make himself known to the other kids.
"I am sorry I overheard your conversation but I need to take that sword back to its owner, if it is food you need and warmth I have sisters that are good cooks and can help out as well." He said with a sadness in his eyes.
The young boy with the sword had no desire to be a thief in the first place but life had made him become one. "...Ok..but please don't turn us in I don't want my brother and sister to be alone...can you do that at least..I will give you the sword to return" The boy said with almost tears in his eyes and shame written on his face. "Ok" with that Shin was handed the sword and kept to his word returning it to the woman and making sure he got them food and warmth. It was a good day and showed Shin more about the world then he had seen before.
