Yamato is a young boy with black hair and brown eyes. He usually wears blue jeans and a black undershirt which he doesn't cover but instead uses it as a top. Yamato has an X shaped scare on his wrist that he got from various fights thanks to the fact that he simply cant remember to block with his sword's handle while removing one of his hands but instead he blocks with his bare hands. Personality-wise Yamato is a level-headed child who avoids getting involved in fights as long as he isn't forced into one. During a fight however, he wont dare to make a move unless he had already planned at least 10 steps ahead. Thanks to his education, Yamato grew to always respect his foes. In Yamato's swordsmanship style, he has a very specific drawing mannerisms where he expresses the manner he predicts the fight will follow through the sword drawing technique. Yamato's favorite meal is a combination of a cheeseburger along with a nice cold glass of cola. Although Yamato seems quite level-headed most of the time, his biggest fear although he would never admit it - is to be buried alive. One of Yamato's hobbies is simply rest while reading a good book, though what he feels a bit uneasy about is the fact that he is extremely eager to help his friends since he believes that is nothing more important than to finish a mission.

Yamato was born in a small farm on the outskirts of the Neo Leaf territories to Takasho and Tsuki Kensei. His parents tutored him since young age; His father taught him the way of the sword while his mother taught him ways to survive in various situations. The rest of the time, he played with his friends at the farm just to kill time. Every night before bed, he tended to read as many books as he could, though he couldn't manage to finish an entire book in a single night and end up falling asleep before reaching the end. He'd often practice drawing techniques with his father which at some point became a second nature to him and at every Sunday, he used to meet up with his friend Ando to practice sparing in the middle of the corn fields with blunt wooden swords, but eventually his friend moved from the farm and he lost all means to contact him ever since. Since Yamato inherited his grandfather's level-headedness most of the time his parents passed their days in boredom to the extent where his mother wished that their child would be a bit more troublesome just to spice things up, on the other hand his father believed that what doesn't kill him only makes him stronger.
What gets on Yamato's nerves until this day is how the rest of the farm's residents view him as simply his father's shadow to the extent where he even gets irritated enough to burst out instead of staying cool like he usually does which makes him feel like they think that his father is dead in a way. Yamato got his first scare when he was at the age of 7 when he challenged some adult to a duel that named him "Takasho's son", apparently that person didn't hold back as much as he needed against the child. The other part of his famous X shaped scare he got in the very same fashion where he challenged a more experienced swordsman to fight him some years later. Now Yamato was old enough to go to the academy of ninja education, he was eager to prove to everyone once and for all that his name was Yamato Kensei and not Takasho's son.
