Character's Physical Description:
Shiri stands at about 160 centimeters (just under 5'4" for those who acknowledge the glory of the Old Imperial Measurement). She has light, soft skin that belies her rather hearty constitution, and although it bruises somewhat easily it is also rather quick to heal even without the aid of intensive medical jutsu. Shiri's hair is fairly pale although it does have a somewhat rosy hue that is visible in bright light; she normally keeps her hair trimmed at around shoulder length, and overall it frames her cute, gentle face rather gracefully. Shiri's frame is undeniably feminine, and has fat and muscle levels that can be reasonably expected of someone who regularly performs light exercise and activity. Shiri's taste in clothing is varied enough that she doesn't have one go-to outfit, although for professional reasons she is usually seen wearing either her parade uniform (a tuxedo, miter, and cape, usually with concealed body armor worn underneath 'just in case') or her field uniform (a simple one-piece bodysuit woven from puncture-resistant compounds, with anti-ballistic plate layered over it).
Character's Mental Description:
Devoted. Shiri takes her word seriously, not giving out promises lightly and going to whatever extent she deems necessary to ensure said promises are kept. Loyal and honest, Shiri's friends can often count on her to be there for life, as she would only abandon them if a disagreement became truly irreconcilable.
Obsessive. It is in Shiri's nature to worry, and to strive for perfection. She is rarely content with second best, and is content with being her own worst critic. Although her worrying often expresses itself as reasonable emotional outbursts when the safety of a comrade is uncertain, it can occasionally manifest as slightly neurotic and controlling behavior.
Curious. Shiri has a range of hobbies and interests, from fashion and music to wargaming and perfecting her fencing style, and many more in between. In general, Shiri can become interested in a new topic on a whim, although she can also lose interest in something just as easily if it isn't something tangibly important to her.
Lonely. A prisoner of her own mind, Shiri sometimes has trouble understanding when to speak her mind in social and informal encounters. What she lacks in expression, she makes up for in perception; she is well on the way to mastering the art of attentive listening, thus the basis of many of her relationships tend to be her listening and comprehending, only taking initiative to talk when she is confident she has something to say. She has a great appreciation of both humor and tragedy, and those who can either make her laugh or relate a difficult experience to her are well on their way to earning her trust and loyalty.
Character History:
Born to a Tenouzan family with a long history of career military service (as opposed to the basic public service expected of every full citizen of the Tenouzan Republic), Shiri was raised with a healthy dose of appreciation for the military of the holy city, as well as bedtime stories telling tales of heroic knights and guardsmen of the city's past. Unfortunately, as a child growing up during a rather turbulent era, Shiri's home life would not go unmolested forever. Her parents were casualties of the Hayata Makoro incident which caused conflict all over the Lightning Sphere; although her aunts and uncles were more than happy to raise her, it was often noted that Shiri's social graces never quite properly recovered from the loss of her parents. Nevertheless, by the age of 10 she began to insist on enrolling in military school as a squire, undeterred by the untimely demise of her parents.
School life passed for Shiri mostly without incident, and at the age of 14 she was a qualified expert in Tenouza's special weapons and tactics doctrine. Her post-squire career saw her serving as a knight-ensign in the Honor Guard, providing security for Tenouza's VIPs as well as assisting the Interior Guard in their routine patrols. It was during her service as a bodyguard that she befriended Yamauchi Shuu, the Pontiff and High Diplomat of Tenouza. The knight and pontiff both empathized over each others' losses during the wars that had torn through Lightning Country during their childhoods, and Shiri had nothing but admiration for the young woman who could accept the responsibility of leadership within the Church at such a young age. This relationship soured her work with the senate, however, as they thought the Pontiff was far too impulsive and stubborn, and a bad influence on Shiri.
In time, Shuu would approach Shiri with a request: Shuu knew that Tenouza's secular government did not trust the Pontiff's Court under her leadership, and suspected that some elements in Tenouza may even be plotting against her. For her own safety, Shuu would seek asylum away from the senate's critical eyes.
A decision was made, the Pontiff would use Kumogakure as the base for her latest crusade, and Shiri would serve as her personal knight. As part of the agreement to ensure Shuu's safety while in Kumogakure, Shiri would submit herself to the shinobi village's chain of command, allowing herself to serve the needs of the village when not actively serving Shuu's own interests. Shiri had no problems with servitude, as she trusted Shuu's belief that Kumogakure would not abuse their power over her. And more than that, Shiri believed in her friend, and that any cause that Shuu was willing to champion was worth fighting for.
Shiri was discreet when saying goodbye to her friends and family, for the sake of her mission. She would miss all of them dearly, but part of her knew that one day her life as a knight would take her away from her home, possibly never to return.
And so began the tale of a kunoichi and lady knight, a young maiden who's loyalty to a friend would bring her in between two of Lightning's political powers.
