Eichi looked up to the sky. ’So this is how I’m living my life.’ It wasn’t the farming that made him think of such a thing. It was the lifestyle of a Kumo-Nin that had his mind on such a topic. Doing missions, taking up for others, defending them when the time arose. It wasn’t so much about the pay, but the experience is what brought him closer to his thoughts.
As he continued to experience his life, the more he began to love it. The Academy taught him a lot, but actually being out in the field was amazing. Sure he was just picking weeds right now, but when he achieved the higher ranking missions, he’d be out doing some tough things for the village. It could come to combat, assassination, he could even be killed. But it was something that he was willing to do. It wasn’t for glory or honor, it was for something greater, something that he kept close and believed in. He wouldn’t let himself be stopped by an enemy. Becoming a traitor was just out of the question. His ties to the village would become greater as he experienced more in life, but as of now, he was still only a green leaf.
He knew he’d be able to overcome any task if he had the correct mindset. Maybe that’s what these E-Ranked Missions were more about. These missions were so easy, he figured even normal civilians could carry out such tasks. He knew there was more to it. Maybe these were the building of character moments he had to take in to progress? Who knew? Maybe he’d become extra lucky and make some connections that would change his life. The possibilities were endless.
He continued to pull up more weeds. By the end of the day he knew he’d have to take a good shower to clean off the filth that he accrued out in the field. He’d been there for a few hours, but he could already feel the pains of being out in the fields. He was glad the the climate wasn’t so harsh on him. He imagined being in the blistering sun trying to get this job done. He was very thankful that he didn’t have to go through such a hassle in the heat.
The boy took a break, taking a few sips from the water bottle that he was given before the job. He began to plan for his lunch, thinking of the meals he could get from one of the popular shops that littered the entertainment district. He even thought of applying for one of the jobs there. He could become a part time chef, learning to serve the best of dishes. Now that such a thought came to mind, he couldn’t wait to make his way over. He imagined himself in one of those chef hats, cooking up food and serving up the civilians. Not only would he be doing something that he loved, but he would also be helping others rather than just himself. A win win situation.
Break time was over, and the boy got back to his job.
