Zatoru vs Tenken [ Second Student Tournament Round 1]

The roar of the crowd could be heard in the distance it was clear that they were getting hyped to witness the fight that would be taking place shortly. As cheers and whoops could be heard echoing around the stadium it would be the fighters turn to rock up and make sure they were prepared to enter in the arena. It was clear that the time had come to step in front of the crowd and prove themselves in that few seconds that they had. This could change their lives for ever and it could see them spotted by a specific branch and they could even be elected to join if they were lucky.

“We would like to welcome the entrance of our new fighters. Give them a huge cheer as they prepare to enter into the arena!”

The announcers voice would echo around the arena as the crowd would grow louder in that split second. It was clear that they were all craving to see the new participants enter and begin their fight it was clear that they were desperate to see what would come of this fight and wanted to see who would be going onto the next round.

With the representatives from each branch checking out the fighters it would be down to them to enter this fight. At each gate there would be done of the ANBU each of them trained to identify the fighter that would come to their gate and make sure that they were the correct person before even opening the gates. With the announcement made each of the ANBU would open the gates and allow the competition to see their first sights at what they would be fighting in.

At the gates opened they would be able to see a massive grass area that was open to the crowd, there was thousands of people staring at the two combatants as they waited to see what was happening in this situation. Some of them peaked over the edge to get a better look at the combatant and even some of them would mutter between themselves as coins passed between hands as bets were placed from what they could see in that first second.

There would be the referee in the middle of the arena waiting for the participate to come to the middle before speaking to them. His words quick and soft as he spoke to both deciding to keep it brief and keep to the rules of the arena that had been set out by the organisers of this tournament.

“I want you all to keep this a clean fight, nothing to make this problematic. Remember that you must win by KO that is the only place that you can win this fight. Good luck and let’s keep this simple”

That was the only words that were offered to each fighter before they would be given the signal to begin it was now clear. This was the student’s time to prove themselves worthy in the eyes of everyone watching. They had to make sure that they took this opportunity that was given to them and grabbed it by the hands.

'How... quaint.'​

Zatoru sat alone all night before this day wondering how this would transpire... he was one arm down but he was not about to back down from any fight. He didnt know his opponent, nor did he care. This was for the Clan. For those that would look to him later for guidance. He had to begin this with a big name making moment, but who knew what would happen, these things could easily snowball out of his favor, but Za lived by a creed that overcame any anxieties that lingered within normal human nature....

Fortune favors the brave...

It was something he'd said to himself since he'd woken up in the hospital after his father stabbed and kabobbed himself and his mother to a grueling death, but his mother was the only one that day that did not re-awaken. Za knew that this would lead to riches beyond his wildest measure, but he didnt want that all for himself, he wanted the fame behind it. The acclaim. Anything to have his name resonate in the minds of the world leaders. To take heat off of the other clan members...

Alas, Za would spend the morning of the tournament beginning getting a light breakfast in. Toast. Two Eggs. Some Herbal Tea that Sumiko liked. And then with that he would collect his gear and strap his belts and blades on him. Since his visor had broken in the incident that took his arm he'd worked on a pair of goggles that would help him with genjutsu perps. Alas, there was nothing left to do, no more preparations needed. Sumiko and Shion had helped him get as accustomed to having one hand as he could be. And by it being his off hand he was sure to be dealing less damage than he'd be used to but he was more or less focused on hitting his opponent and wearing them down rather than dealing devastating blows to them or to take them out with a few shots.

He'd head to the arena with Sumiko, as she was participating as well, and go to his designated spot after giving her a hug and a 'Good Luck' before heading off to his spot... but alas, this would be something that he would be ready for. Or at least he felt like he would be ready enough for!

Za smiled as he would await his name to be called with his opponent who he'd found out was named 'Tenken' from Leaf. There were a few competitors from Cloud as well, but none from Sand? Shun and Daisuke, both apart of the Exam with Sumiko were here, but nothing else mattered. Za had to get passed Tenken to face the winner of Sumiko and her opponent from Cloud. This would be interesting enough, but Za was going to root for his girl anyways.

Making his way into the center of the arena, Zatoru would keep his head down as he would pace himself and control his breathing going into the fight. His Crimson hair standing up as he'd used his goggles to hold them it up like a headband. The scars on the right side of his face a glimpse of the person he'd become over the last few years, the training and everything that went into his entire being. His eyes closed and he could not hear the cheering of the crowd nor did he want to, he was focused. Waiting for his opponent and to be told to get ready. The Referee would call this as long as it was clean, but as a shinobi what was clean? They were to use dirty tactics to undermine and illusions to cast shadows on what they were doing. But Za was pretty straight forward...

So with that he would await the presence of his opponent... before continuing.

 

[Tenken]

That was a lot more people than Tenken expected. She’d expected a small crowd, maybe, but for an entry-level tournament had not expected this kind of turnout. She’d been training for this day, wanting to show that Konoha had chosen well, and wanting to inspire others. To that end, Tenken’s outfit today was perhaps the most revealing thing she’d ever worn in her life.

Her legs were completely bare for all to see, as was her right arm. Opposite of the potential for service to the male gaze, however, was that these limbs were entirely mechanical. Prosthetics given to her by Konoha after that reviled Cloud shinobi took her limbs and nearly her life from her as a toddler. With the black top she wore to cover her other modest assets, its single sleeve coming down her right arm and embroidered with fine kanji of the Konoha name, it was a jarring juxtaposition.

She took a moment, her golden eyes blinking a few times as she adjusted her bright pink hair in the mirror, before heading for her gate to be let into the arena. She had no idea who she was here to fight, but was worried about not putting on a good enough showing and making others think her disabilities would be the end of their own dreams. She wouldn't let others see their shortcomings as dead ends, she had to win this to prove to everyone that even those with such disabilities could live a happy life.

Finally she is let in, her opponent already waiting. Tenken walks out a bit more slowly than her anxiety wanted to let her, the noise of the crowd deafening as she makes her way to the center of the arena and takes in a deep breath before smiling at the man she was here to fight. Scarred and rough looking…and decidedly not into returning pleasantries she figured.

Still, she was to be a superhero. She couldn’t let someone being grumpy get in her way. So with all the bubbly excitement she felt, Tenken beams at him. ”Hello! I hope we both have fun today! Good luck okay?” Her golden eyes alight with the adventure she was about to take. It was only then she noted that the other was missing a limb, and unlike her didn't bother getting a replacement.

What the hell kind of organizer puts two cripples in a fight together?

"Do you need to go get a...prosthetic for that? I can wait."

[Tenken]

There’s the age old trope of “everything happened suddenly” that got stated in nearly every fight Tenken had heard shinobi talk about when they were discussing their combat exploits. Tenken always figured it to be an exaggeration as these were the same people who brought up tunnel vision and how you could focus so much time almost stood still. She found here, now, just how true that statement was, as everything began quite suddenly.

She narrowed her sights on the boy before her as the signal was sent for the fight to begin, time seeming to slow around her as she does. But this was no euphemism for adrenaline, no hindsight in her mind. Time quite literally slowed as her warping capabilities sped her form up to a blur. She would begin to simply appear to be across the field of combat in various places. Clones of her form popping in and out of existence.

And then her fists began to crackle and exude an aura of power, a ghostly blue light rising from them as reality itself fought against what she was doing. The foundations of physics would cry as Tenken ripped apart the physical universe and made the resulting wound a weapon. She also put a good breeze at her back before her opponent shifted his own stance.

And then out of nowhere several pinpricks of pain shot out of her, something her foe had done she had to assume. As a weapon seems to appear in his hands, Tenken watches an earthen coating hit it and responds by putting her hands up and showing off the warped reality she was using to attack. But no attack came from the bubblegum warrior yet. But instead black markings seem to spread out from the mark on her neck, wrapping around her flesh.

As clones of the boy appear, she ignores them, eyes only on him. And gives a huff of anger as the other doesn’t even realize he ignored an attack of her own. Instead, Za comes into range and tries to grab hold of her. A bright blue light shows as she simply steps out of existence and appears back behind him.

”I guess we’re fighting then? I’m Tenken by the way! Pleased to meet you!”

 

[Zatoru]

There was a shift, Za didnt speak, he didnt feel the need to. He did want to do something to see how this fight would go. A Feeling out process, so to speak. Za felt the need to draw his blade and strike quickly and consistently, but the being he was fighting was moving as fast if not faster than he could move. Something that was quite astonishing that someone at this level was faster on the draw, but alas, there were limits to what Za could do, and anything requiring chakra would take sometime to do...

The girl was quick, but was she enduring to what needed to be done? Maybe Za had to be sure. Taking and striking at her twice, both of those blows landing flush. Caused a Smirk to arrive across the lips of Zatoru, 'Hm, first one down. Time to figure out the rest...' there would be something that stuck in the back of his mind with this person, there was a different air around them. 'What... Hm. I've never encountered someone like this before, but maybe there is more going on than I can see... Genjutsu perhaps?' Channeling his chakra through the blade he found that this would have more implications but Za had to calculate everything in regards to what they were doing and figuring out an unknown technique he'd never encountered...

Za would Create the Clones from the paper jutsu he'd worked on specifically for the tournament. Now with two more versions of himself he would have a chance to move in and Set-up another attack... but alas something would happen right before he struck at her causing him to lose sight of her as she would appear behind him....

"...Hm, I guess we are... I am Baba Zatoru... You're quite intriguing..."

[Tenken]

As the fight began to get into a more full swing of things, she would manage to evade another sneak strike aimed at her, her golden eyes narrowing as she simply vanishes with another eerie blue flash of light. She appears behind Za, who to his credit immediately turns around to attack again. Once more everything blurs as she seems to vanish, not moving but quite literally willing herself to be elsewhere. In this case, once more behind her foe. As she does, she coats her hand with chakra, the energy crackling and snapping in the briefest of microseconds before she swings at him.

And then her attack hit. The nature of her power warping around her and sending a blow into her foe that, with luck, left him reeling. And indeed, she could tell that the blow hurt, but her opponent took it in stride after a few moments, throwing out a series of blows that left her putting space between them. And then the clones began attacking, annoyances at best but annoyances she didn’t want.

”You’re not bad, you know. But I have to win this. After all, the super hero can’t lose in the first round!” That said, she prepares for the next slew of attacks, taking up her stance once more after brushing some hair from her face, narrowing her eyes at him. "I can't stop here. I won't. I promised Tsu I would get the power to keep going, to make people happy."

[Zatoru]

This would be a semblance of the fight to come. The thing that Za would manage to do would come to pass, and the girl he seemed to be fighting was really good at keeping things together, pressing forward, and staying calm. However, something was troubling Za internally, he was off because he was still getting used to using his off-hand as a basis for his attacks. She was manipulating some different sorts of chakra... And this was something that he would definitely have to do more research on as the fight would continue...

'I got an ide-...' his thought would be cut off by a huge blow to his body... he wasnt sure what it was but it hurt... his fingers tingled with static almost like he'd got a stinger in the back of his spine, but alas there was no sign of electricity being used or anything bludgeoning that would have happened. Maybe this was the coursed of how things would go but Za was definitely going to be prepped for it next time, unless he didnt see it coming as she had snuck him with the hit this time... at which case there was nothing he could do to prepare for something he couldnt see.... but he did know a technique that would help in go tit for tat with her...

"...Tch, Silly, Super Heroes do not exist. There are Warriors and everyone else. The question you must ask, will you be able to become one? Or will you fold under the pressure of the inability to keep up with someone who has already had to become what you dream to be..." and with that the plan would go into motion...

'Super Heroes?... Silly girl I'll have to put you down like a good story book villain...'

I Am A Lion​

Her golden orbs narrow briefly at the words of the boy before her, a frown creasing her face. ”Spoken like someone who needed a hero in their life.” As soon as the words are out he was on her, however, a blow slamming home before she managed to mostly evade his followup attack, and then give her own, a powerful thing that completely destroyed one of his clones and left the other a bit worse off…but missed her main target entirely which was rather bothersome.

And then he copied one of her own moves, but whereas she teleported he was simply moving very, very fast. She spins, her fist lashing out and hitting home…on a puppet. Where had that come from? A blow to the back sends her flying forward, but not so fast as to avoid a followup from him. Tenken rises, wiping sweat from her brow and taking a breath. Two can play that.

She vanishes in a blue light once more, appearing behind him before repeating it, appearing all over the battlefield as her multi-reality presence takes hold to confuse. And then she appears right infront of him, the real her this time. One hit, two, and then a solid blow to the gut that had all of her anger behind it before another one-two to the face. That last clone does some minor attack that she essentially ignores and focuses on Za instead.

”I’m sorry your heroes failed you. But I am not them. Thinking that they can’t exist is a nihilistic view. And I might not be one yet, but I’m on the path to doing so. And I will not be stopped here, even if you beat me. I will train harder, I will get better. So prepare yourself!”

 

[Zatoru]

"As I said, there are no Heroes. I am a Warrior.", nodding this would seem to be the climax moments of the fight, they were going back and forth but this would definitely begin to become a chore. Za felt his chakra getting under half of his maximum capacity, but he would think to himself about different ways to help keep it up and regain some if he needed to. Though, nothing would be anything that he would be able to do at the moment. It didn't at all matter at the end of things though because if he played his cards just right he would have wouldnt need to finish off his chakra reserves.

"...It seems that you are stubborn, You will never become what you dream to be without that sort of spunk though... Granted, its not enough to take me down.", and with that Za would go back into action.

You Just Activated My Trap Card!​

He kept dismissing the idea of heroes, the poor boy. Tenken was feeling fit still, well enough to keep this going. As he hits her again, he swaps his weapon to a wakizashi and comes at her again, then follows up with a flurry of swings that she manages to mostly avoid. As she dodges out of the way, her face gives off a grin.

”We’ll see about that.”

Tenken finishes forming the chakra, and behind her a storm of lighting and wind forms, coalescing into a corporeal form of a large panther. The cat gives a tremendous growl as her foe dances around the field in shadows once more. Tenken pulls out another servant, a shadow copy of herself, and turns to avoid the incoming blow of her opponent.

”Time to stop being so fun, I guess.”

As the clone keeps up its relentless assault, she ignores it, focusing entirely on Zatoru. The boy who claimed there cannot be heroes in this world. She would show him.

Za could feel things beginning to shift in a way that would not favor Zatoru, at all really but to be honest, Za hadnt ad a good run of things since this whole thing started. He wasnt able to deal the amount of damage that he wanted to, but all in all he would have to be able to figure himself to get a feel for how this would go. Staring down two new entities with someone that was able to deal the damage necessary, he would feel like he would have to do something that would help him immensely. So maybe this would wind up being the chance he needed to gain some ground. But how?

"Awe, we're stopping? I guess its time to stop playing with the food now is it? Pish posh... Lets see where this rabbit hole goes! NOW SHALL WE!?"

I'll Face Myself​

Her golden eyes narrow at the mocking tone of the other. Obviously something was wrong with this kid. What kind of sane person acted like that? Tenken could only assume her opponent thought this was some sort of video game or manga where acting like a fool got you ahead in life. Time to show how the world really worked.

Once more time slows to a crawl as she dashes forward, time not even allowing shock to register on Zatoru’s face before her fist slams into it. As his skull begins moving out of the way of her blow, however, she acts quicker and opens her hand, gripping his skull and infusing explosive chakra into his head before leaping back as the fireworks go off. Almost as fast, he strikes out against her and she teleports behind him. 3 more blows ring out against his form as she strikes from behind.

His followup caught her, barely, but she dances back as he drops his weapon. And then her shadowy clone runs in from the side and punches him in the face. It wasn’t a good hit, but it would serve as some purpose to throw off his coming attack; Tenken dancing around each strike as they’re made at her. And then lightning breaks off from the panther, missing Za but hitting his clone square on.

In between the next two strikes from her own clone missing, somehow he lands a blow on her that left her feeling weaker than usual. Looking down, Tenken spies the seal on her form and frowns before her panther breaks out in lightning once more, a reverse of last time as it hits Za but not his clone.

She looks up as thunderclaps rain down, her pink hair disheveled and herself covered in sweat and grime. She got the distinct feeling she was the one who came off better in this exchange. And she had an even more distinct feeling this was almost over, one way or another.

Tenken resumes her stance, hey eyes focused on Zatoru and no idle banter coming forth as she looks for an opening.

Desperado...​

It would seem the time for talk was over... as things would immediately turn into blasts of strikes and blows into his face. Almost immediately as he finished speaking. She was fast... so fast that Za wasnt able to keep up with many of her movements... but there was alot that went into the fight with her. Much to the notion that Za had been fighting her as if she was under him, he needed to step his own game up because he wasnt sure that he would be able to contend much longer with her if things continued. Though the barrages would come quick and hastily from her, even if he had a contingency plan in place there would be nothing he would be able to do about her amazing skill...

To which he'd have to bite his lip and consider the rules of the tournament... No Summoning contracts. However, Creations and Clones were acceptable. Things that were set on your own chakra were okay, but things that had their own sets were not? It was a tricky and sticky situation, as Za couldnt hide his disdain and damage anymore. He was about at half his normal endurance, much more would wear him out. And if she continued to knock him around he would be knocked out soon for sure.

"...I'll give you this... You're good. Stronger than I anticipated. Maybe even, stronger than myself... but I have what you will never have." a smirk danced over his lips from right to left. Flicking his thumb to wipe some of the blood that trickled down from his lip onto his chin.

He wouldnt say anything after that, leaving the anticipation gleaming over the topic at hand... First he had to figure out everything else with this fight before he would have a chance of beating her. At any pace, there were going to be fireworks... Za was about to reach into his bag... and the tricks that he would come up with would be something that maybe he could get away with? Who knew... But why not give it a try?
