Take a walk on the Blind Side (Open)

For the first time in a generation, people living in Suna are able to look skyward and see the Sun from the residential zone. Suna Residences is made up of various adobe apartment buildings and housing structures to accommodate those of all walks of life. The smell of fresh flowers is almost intoxicating as the wind carries the scent across the realm. Accompanying the residences is a growing bazaar which is a sight to behold with colors and flavors. This residential area overlooks in many parts the canyon that was recently formed when part of the desert collapsed exposing a majority of the subterranean village to daylight.

Kurokawa didn't seem to be the only one who wanted to know more about the venture but as planned, her patience had prompted the younger one to pop the question. Sadly it seemed that the older one didn't take the bait. Maybe the young one spoke again too soon or maybe the older one was preoccupied with other thoughts while tracking whatever they were after to catch the question. In any case he seemed to react when the young one presented himself as Senju Nazomeku. Apparently he was familiar with the clan in some way, or at least enough to know one other person. People here don't know Kurokawa that well as she transferred from another country when it broke down, and she had not met any other people with her clan name or bloodline, so it's likely he wouldn't know anyone there but one never knows. After all she could just not have met this person or he could be more well travelled than her and a branch of her family could live elsewhere.

As they were asked for names Kurokawa would and show the top of a tattoo on her back. Her usual attire left her shoulders and the area surrounding the shoulder blades bare. Between them would be a kanji saying black. The other part of the tattoo would not be visible and showing it would leave some other assets exposed so instead of showing the rest she would speak.

"I'm Kurokawa. I used to have this black strand of hair, that looked like a black river in a white landscape so it was named after that. It's gone now though."

She would smile and turn back around to face the others again and continue walking along side them. The older one would introduce himself as Riyota, so it seemed that so far presenting clan names was either mostly not required or maybe just left out for convenience. It's not that she would mind adding it, but usually people could tell by the blindness that there was more than a little chance she was a Hashigaki. It would be highly unlikely seeing a blind shinobi without the sound based navigation system due to it being nearly impossible to manoeuvre well enough in a heated situation without compromising allies fighting alongside him or her.

They seemed to have left the residential area and now walked around an open field of sand going on far enough for her not be able to sense buildings in the area. If they up and left her here she would take quite some time finding her way back to civilisation. At least she knew they were getting somewhere. Changes in vibrations would reveal a large structure underneath the sand. It seemed Riyota was looking for some way in, but why he knew it was here or what this thing was used for was unknown to her. She decided to focus on finding a weak point in the building indicating a doorway of some description but before she could wind anything she was grabbed and pulled in. The didn't have time to counter it as she didn't perceive Riyota as an enemy and thus didn't expect anything from him at this point. Before she knew it they were close and she could feel something forming around them. Since Nazomeku was being pulled in as well she figured Riyota just knew something they didn't rather than him suddenly luring them into the desert and going on the offensive.

Didn't take long for the explosion to hit they cover but it seemed to hold so they would soon get to smell the fresh air again. Well fresh would be a false statement as the area would stink of burned flesh. Being blind meant that her sense of smell was heightened if only a little so part of the job was getting used to smells like blood and burns. If not she would have probably been nauseated. After taking an attack like that Riyota still found the need to be overly positive about a situation that still needed a lot of explaining.

"Before we move on, lets have a bit more of that information you are keeping to yourself. One does not go snooping around a dangerous compound like this without knowing something."

[Pfft… concealing your surname won’t hide the truth from me buddy,] he thought to himself as his face turned from jubilant openness in regards to sharing information and getting to know some new people back to a crooked scowl on the cover of a closed book.

Things continued to move forward for the group as the blind girl who now revealed herself to be Kurokawa in answer to Nazomeku’s question. Her show and tell answer of her tattoo helped to put Nazo at ease a little bit.

“Nazo’s fine,” he answered to Riyota when he mentioned that he would call him by Nazo because of his laziness. Nazo finally found something to smile about when he thought of Riyota’s nickname being too similar to the academy student nickname for a retard.

“Yeah, sure Ri, Ri…whatever you say,” he said with a large amount of sarcasm oozing through his voice inflection. The group had eventually stopped in the middle of the Sunan desert outskirts. Nazomeku didn’t even notice that they had walked so far so fast. He was very surprised by it. Even more surprises were to come though, as he continued to watch Riyota move about the desert floor, knocking, knocking, knocking and for what? Nazomeku hadn’t known and it was a little annoying not being able to know what exactly they were looking for or even searching for. This guy Riyota wasn’t giving enough answers and it was starting to visibly annoy both Kurokawa and Nazo both.

Before they both knew it, Riyota had oozed some type of off-colored flesh that had captured and protected both of them in one fell swoop. There was a loud crash of rubble and debris around them with the sound of the BOOM. The effuse of heat from the door was palpable. The smell of the burnt flesh was overpowering.

Thanks to Nazomeku’s affinity to fire ninjutsu it wasn’t too strong for him. His normal reaction to the situation was to draw his guard, which he did. Once things began to settle, he could tell through the space he left open between his arms to see in front of him that Riyota’s wounds were healing over again by themselves.

[What the hell is this guy and most importantly where in the hell is he taking us?] Then Kurokawa spoke up and said exactly what Nazomeku was thinking.

“Yeah man, fuck this!” He kicked the dirt on the ground over a few inches. “What in the hell is going on here. You best start talking or I ain’t walking no where else with you bud.”

His hotheadedness had started to show a little bit. The frustration from the day boiling into this singular moment…

"Ye of such little faith..." He murmured to himself, not yet turning to face them. "Evidently your sense of adventure isn't what I was hoping for, the unexpected holds so much more value than its counterpart." He smiled, turning to look at them both. "But I suppose an explanation is fair, however, know this." He approached Nazomeku slowly, bending his knee slightly to stare at the younger male face to face. "There's a right and a wrong way to ask a question, Kuro's got it down, polite, concise and reasonable. Being rude, abrasive and filling your voice with venom not to mention forcing a pointless ultimatum into the question is definitely the wrong way." His voice was dry and serious, a rather jarring shift of tone from its casual vibe beforehand. "So stay or go because I honestly don't care, because if you're going to act like a brat I don't want you with me, but if you do go, grow up a little and act with some respect." Concluding his brief moral lesson by standing and walking a few paces away from Nazo he eventually turned to address them both again, his face bright and cheerful once more.

"Right, if my point has been made then we're golden. Also we don't need this any more." He withdrew the gun from a pocket and with a lightning fast motion of his hand completely disassembled the weapon, leaving it in scattered pieces on the floor. "Ms. Kurokawa, I thank you for your patience and your politeness, and I will try my best to explain in...thirty seconds...because that's about how long it'll take for the guards to show up." Taking a moment to collect his thoughts he began. "Underneath our feet is an organisation that illegally manufactures and trades dangerous weaponry. I've had a couple run-ins with customers of theirs and managed to track them to this spot. Unfortunately one small miscalculation on my part...sorry by the way...means tha-..." The sound of footsteps emerging from the mouth of the crater cut off his sentence as a small platoon of guards surrounded him, those armed with blades pointed them at his neck, those armed with guns aimed them at their companions.

"You guys are early, I thought I had at least five seconds left." He said with a small chuckle, attempting to mask his concern that the situation was rapidly spiralling out of his control. "Nazo, you showed you've got a bit of spirit in ya' so how about this. I'll let you decide what we do here. Think fast now." He said casually, looking to the younger male. Putting him on the spot a tad. "How shall we do this?" He asked, an eyebrow raised.

Now that the introductions were out of the way and the feelings about this little adventure was shared, the situation evolved into a lecture. Riyota seemed to have assumed some authority role in all of this despite only being older, and not openly showing higher status or exceptional leadership. In the Shinobi world you have to earn respect and most of Kurokawa's seniors had done so in various wars or through other achievements like being good teachers. So far all their current mister tall dark and handsome had done was suggest a quest and bring people in danger.

Kurokawa didn't have much time to think, as footsteps were heard from underground while the explanation was underway. They were running in a very organised two by two formation with seemingly different weaponry as if they would cover each other using their different tools of choice. Left side, equipped with swords, while the right side had more firearms like the one Riyota had just disassembled. There weren't many chakra users in the mix but a few showed promise in stamina and might be trained, or simply unaware that they posses the capacity for more.

For now Kurokawa would form a few seals, after which she would start bleeding from every orifice and pour on her body, until she was completely red. Oddly enough the blood would stay on her skin, and neither drip to the sand, nor soak or stain her cloth. As it hardened she would form another few seals and get covered in a slight smoke cloud after which the blood was no longer visible. She didn't have time for anything else before they were surrounded by the mercs they were apparently here to apprehend. It seemed Riyota had offered Nazo the chance to call the shots as a way to mend fences, but whether or not that was a great idea or a fatal error had yet to be known. Nazo could just as well freeze like deer in the headlights as he could rise to the challenge.

"Look, the goupies have arrived. Ready to perform whenever"

Kurokawa figured she would get the worst of it if these people turned out to be strong, but the group wasn't immidiately killed, so she was not going to go down without a fight. The imminent battle would stir up the voice within.

Save me a few if you can. It's been a while since you gave me any attension.

Nazo didn't really appreciate how Riyota spoke to him, though he was able to perceive the wisdom in his words.

The anger that he felt boiling inside of him needed to dissipate or he wouldn't be the best partner to have alongside the others for the rest of this mission. Luckily the guards had just arrived and Riyota was allowing Nazomeku to lead the way in handling them.

Without words Nazomeku went straight into forming handseals. His hands would begin to glow a deep and vibrant blue. He had been thinking of several combinations for the advanced techniques he was learning and this was the first time he could show one of the combos he had created. The first jutsu was the mystical pond jutsu, which had been supplemented with additional chakra to suck in an additional target. The water that spewed from Nazo’s mouth would even be difficult for Kurokawa and Riyota to stay afloat on it if they hadn't moved out of the way and back behind Nazomeku.

Out of the eight targets, three of the lesser skilled individuals would fall in and disappear. Their lives currently being fought for against the weight of the water. While the guards looked around in shock, some maintaining their balance on the water, Nazo continued pumping seals as the release of his water chakra continued to pour fourth.

The secondary technique which Nazo would release next would be the Torrential Vortex technique, which would slowly start the water of the mystical pond spinning. Before long all of the guards would disappear under the weight of the water. The sound of the crashing waves ahead of them was all that filled the desert currently. None of the guards even had a chance to open fire on the intruding group of three due to Nazo’s quickness in action.

The jutsu continued for another minute or two more before spitting out a burst of water in one large resounding thud. There were two of the guards, who Kurokawa had identified to have a little bit kore stamina than the rest who survived the jutsu combination. The others had been torn to pieces and it had shown as their unidentifiable pieces and parts lay strewn around the desert floor.

It was the first time that Nazomeku had taken a life. Most individuals would flinch at this and begin second guessing their humanity, though not Nazo. He simply turned to Kurokawa and Riyota and said “I left you guys a couple. One each of you like to share…”

His hands would lose the coloring it had previously as Nazo had stopped his flow of chakra. He wasn't trying to show off or anything, since he still knew that the shinobi he was with were stronger than him. Though he did want to prove to the group that he wasn't just some pushover of a child with a bad attitude and that his temper could be facilitated in the correct direction to be a deadly fighting force alongside them.

The tension in his forehead cleared since he got to release his anger on the unsuspecting guards. His thoughts jogged back to the moments before his slight blackout. Riyota has mentioned there was an organization selling illegal weapons underneath them.

His mind was made up. If it was to protect the health and well-being of Sunagakure no Sato, Nazomeku was in. It was due to his fierce village loyalty that ran in the veins of every Senju. “If I get to finish testing out my new techniques, I’ll help you guys clear this place in no time,” he stated openly for both to hear, though he was looking in Riyota’s direction specifically. He would take a moment to tighten his gloves that matched the remainder of his leather garments above the waist.

“I'm ready when you guys are.”

As the group was surrounded by enemies, Kurokawa had elected to only focus on defence until someone lead the way. She didn't have to wait long as the youngling showed, not only initiative but also an aptitude for the same element Kurokawa herself mastered first. As the Mystic pond formed Kurokawa would step back and form some seals. The pond quickly turned into a whirlpool which was the perfect time to chime in.

As the water started spinning, Kurokawa would release her jutsu, a Water Dragon Bullet, and use it as a current in the Vortex to carry her down into the depths of the water. Without forming any seals the blood that had previously protected her skin now formed into draining blood claws with she would use to tear into the flesh of the people swept too low to see.

Show time!

Using the Water Dragon she would propel herself from body to body, to dig in her claws and such out their blood. Releasing the claws in a violent manor would result in a rough dismemberment further moved along by the ripping, swirling torrents of water coming form both the vortex and her dragon. Everyone who was dragged under got a turn, and regardless of their ability to fight back under these harsh conditions, at least some were bound to fall.

With the blood sucked out of them, whoever didn't escape this watery grave would be left dismembered but not bleeding. The flesh would slightly paler than one would normally associate with freshly severed limbs and the amount of blood would have gone from oozing to dripping.

As the water stopped swirling, Kurokawa made her way back to the surface, where her dragon would bit the ground and deposit Kurokawa, and leave her sitting on the sand with her palmed pressed against the wet grainy carpet of eroded rocks. The claws had flaked of in the water before she surfaced. She would appear slightly out of breath which would be understandable, after moving around under such a large amount of water.

As the offer to take out the two with power enough to have a snowballs chance in hell to fight back, Kurokawa would politely decline.

"I think the senior member of this little adventure can handle those two. Besides it might not be a bad idea to get some information out of them instead drowning them."

The strong currents would have ripped her cloths and blindfold slightly, so to not drop it, Kurokawa would remove her head garment and place in a still not totally destroyed ninja pouch she had strapped to her right leg. As she turned her head her radiant violet eyes would look in the general directing of the other two while not fixating on either of them.

Riyota simply stood unmoving, like a sentinel as his younger companions did their work. Evidently they both had a streak for violence within their nature as they wasted no time obliterating their opponents in various bloody ways. There was nothing wrong with this by itself, but it was evident that if they lacked necessary self control it could degenerate into a problem, however, Riyota let them finish their work in silence, not doing anything until the last two remained. As they lay on the floor, gasping for air and looking panicked her slowly stepped over to them and knelt down. Not making any aggressive moves quite yet. The combined attacks of his two teammates had left them without weapons so they were prime to just be questioned.

"Alright, I'd rather get this done quickly so I'd like some short, sharp answers from you two. After that, you're free to go." He explained with a slight smile on his face, a soft expression to try and put them at ease. "Are there any more traps?" "A-a-a few...I-I don't know where...specifically, b-but keep an eye out..." The stammered response came. "I don't suppose either of you have a map of the facility?" He asked, with very little hope in his voice. Both guards shook their heads, sending droplets of water out of their hair onto the ground around them."Yeah...I thought that would be too easy..." He pondered for a moment, drumming his fingers on his knee. "Oh well, we'd best get cracking, off you go!" He gestured a shooing motion with his hand and would allow the guards to stand and scramble off into the distance. Unless Nazo or Kuro had anything to say about it.

Speaking of those two, he turned slowly to face them both, he closed his eyes for a moment and sighed deeply. "I realise thus far I haven't given either of you a reason to trust me, but if you want to continue forward...it'll be very dangerous. I can only guarantee your safety if you're willing to listen to me, and if we're all willing to trust each other. If you don't think you can do that, I won't think any less of you for heading home." With that final disclaimer concluded he turned and leapt his way down into the crater, further into the hornets nest, where all the hornets knew they were coming, and weren't happy about having their nest kicked.

The moment ceased and others had taken action. To Nazo’s surprise it was Kurosawa who had acted after him, following up his technique with one of her own. Effortlessly they had formed a combination jutsu on their first attack sequence together. That was something that Nazo had definitely taken notice of since he understood the value of a team. Thinking of the team aspect for a second he remembered back to Riyota’s ability to track a target. That was particularly useful. Not to mention Kuro’s healing ability.

These were somethings that Nazo was still working on himself to become a better shinobi all the way around, though he knew he still had time to grow. The two guards that were left intact and unequipped didn’t have much information and seemed rather useless. Nazo had an urge to finish them off as well yet he didn’t only in trusting that they would run into stronger opponents upon entering the facility below them. That’s when Riyota began describing the dangerousness of the task that lay before them and if they were going to do this that they were going to have to do this together.

“I’m in. I just wonder, with things like this. We aren’t just combining techniques together out of sheer luck. Like you have to admit that what Kuro did after my mystical pond and torrential vortex technique was sweet and that we could create even more deadly combination techniques if we knew more about each other's abilities. This is my first time working with you guys after all and I’m under the assumption that regular teams have trained together a countless number of hours so they have several different attack formations and strategies, supplemented by jutsu combinations, defensive blocks or counter maneuvers…” he ran out of air talking. It was obvious the excitement had swelled in his face as his cheeks flushed red, his lungs gasping for air as his chest seemed to lower back to its regular resting position.

Nazo sat silently for a moment waiting for their response or movement down below. They still obviously needed the input and spoken trust of Kuro before moving forward unless of course moving forward without her became the outcome. In that time of silence he realized that he was only trusting these two off the merit of being Sunagakure no Sato shinobi’s and that their loyalty to the village meant that Nazo felt safe entrusting them with his own sense of loyalty.

He was prepared for what lay before him. Even though he still wasn’t officially a Gennin yet and bore no physical signs or emblements of having rank in the village as a shinobi, Nazo surely fought and acted like one and had the skill of a mid-ranked shinobi who had been practicing for a minimum of a couple years. There was truly something amazing about his growth and he was chomping at the bit at the opportunity to show it without restrictions.

While the interrogation was commencing Kurokawa would catch her breath. She didn't have much time to do so however as Riyota seemed to only want a few details and took the guys word for it, banking on him being scared enough to not lie. Back in stone, most people would have used some form of memory dive to get to the truth while prodding and enemy for intel, but that always seemed a tad invasive.

Usually Kurokawa's eyes would be covered by cloth but now that they weren't, the unfamiliar feeling of sand in the air would make her close her eyes. Had they been in the city or underground there would not have been a problem, but the combination of unchallenged winds and heat from the sun presented a significant irritant to eyes not used to such conditions. On the plus side, her cloth would dry right back up faster than she would recover her stamina. As she made it back on her legs the young one went into a rather long monologue. As he finished Kurokawa would respond.

"Well, it was a water jutsu so I was just going with the flow so to speak. Other than Water and Fire I mostly focus on stuff that attack the senses, mainly sight but also hearing. If you have anything that goes well with that I'm sure we will discover a way to combine it later on. Usually one has to either know the jutsu or at least have seen it in action before to come up with something that works well with it so time will tell."

She had delayed the response to Riyota as she wanted to make sure he knew that although she would agree to carry on, holding out on potentially dangerous information was not in good taste.

"Since we came all this way, we might as well see it through. But no more keeping us in the dark. Just a moment I need to change before we go on though."

She would pick out 2 scrolls. One was a standard summoning scrolls for various items hidden elsewhere and the other was the reverse. She figured she would just get another outfit like the one she was already wearing. No reason to change to a new look just yet. As she activated both scrolls she would get covered in the classic smoke cloud accompanied by summonings and desummonings. Old blind fold and slightly torn dress was replaced with a fresh set of clothes but when the smoke settled that was not all. She would now also be Pouch around one leg filled with Shurikens. Down her back a sword was sheeted and wrapped around her several times, was a long silvery chain with weighted and spiky handles in either end.

"Okay ready."
