Managing to escape the watchful eye of both Kaji and Umashi he decided to see what there was to do around the town. Tatsuo’s father had told him that larger villages usually had some sort of mission board, more like a bounty board but something a ninja could do for sure if he was looking for a bit of extra Yen in his pocket.
It didn’t take him long to find it, a large wooden board with plenty of pieces of paper pinned onto it. In front of it there was a trio of grizzly men, who didn’t seem to be in company but all seeking the same thing. Work. The first was a man no older than twenty five, the sword on his back was most likely larger and heavier than Tatsuo himself, it’d seem like he could cut the whole board in half. The other one was a man wrapped from head to toe in bandages, just a slit for his eyes and the look he gave made Tatsuo feel uncomfortable maybe all of his skin burned off? The third man was actually an older man wearing a bandana over his head, he was the only one who seemed friendly, there was a cheerful smile on his face as he plucked a piece of paper off the board and made his way further into town, most likely to fulfill a contract.
Tatsuo got up on his toes to read the different contracts on the board, earning him snickers from some of the surrounding patrons. It didn’t seem to affect Tatsuo too much he understood he looked silly, they probably didn’t get many ninjas here and when they did they were most likely older ones from the Cloud as he doubted they let their Genin run freely in the Lightning Country.
“Need help cleaning pots, Missing Sheep, Mining iron..” Tatsuo frowned none of these seemed interesting at all, but poking through the bottom was a small yellowed piece of paper “Giant Bear Destroying Crops: $$$$” Tatsuo grinned, this seemed fun he could definitely beat a bear right? I mean his jutsu was pretty good and his taijutsu was quick too. Well there’d only be one way to find out. On the sheet it gave an address of a farm right outside of Port Cirrus, Tatsuo wondered how anything could grow in such a shitty climate but he realized even Lightning Country people need to eat so they had to grow something.
As he made his way outside the town the sun was high up in the sky filling the chilling environment with a vibrant warmth that reminded Tatsuo of the Leaf, he really started to miss home honestly. Even if he had to go to class there. Making his way down the road passing carriages, travelers and locals alike he finally made his way to the farm. It’d seem they’ve been going through a couple rough years, their house was in despair and their yard destroyed. It must be tough to making a living as a farmer up here, in the Leaf most farmers found relative success because of the fertility of the ground but here it must be tougher.
When Tatsuo knocked on the door he was met by a young girl about two years his senior, she called to her mother. Garbed in overalls and a tshirt she smiled at Tatsuo motioning him in. Tatsuo hesitantly entered the house, his mother told him to not talk to strangers, but she also told him to not take on missions either. Oh well if he was going to break one rule might as well break another, right?
As they made their way into the kitchen, she motioned Tatsuo to sit down offering him a warm cup of tea. Something felt off to Tatsuo, the room was dark and he could barely make out their faces. The daughter’s hands had been behind her back the whole time. Usually Tatsuo was trusting but for some reason this whole environment had him on his toes. Pretending to take a sip from the tea, he immediately felt his lips go numb. He remembered from eating too many poisonous berries to see if something makes your skin go first to see if it’s poisoned and this definitely had the same effect. However, they’d be expecting him to pass out.
