Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

“Heei…YAAAH”

The loud thunk sound of wood against an object made of straw and cloth could be heard repeatedly. She had a few things sprinkled around her but for the main part it was throwing kunai, shuriken, a very dull training sword and a wooden kendo sword. Currently she was swinging the kendo sword and she was performing some very basic strikes on a dummy. Her strikes were not very strong but that was not intentionally the point. Really what she was more so doing was attempting to get the basic sword movements as habit or muscle memory.

Would she use a blade in the future…she did not know. Would she use throwing weapons in the future…she did not know. Should she make sure she can should the opportunity present itself? Absolutely.

If someone had been watching her earlier she was attempting to run up a wall jump off of it and then throw the items into the floor getting them stuck. Throwing in a straight line had finally become second nature. Doing it while applying the necessary force was a whole other matter. She had failed every single time which in her frustration had caused her to switch to sword play.

The rough synopsis anyone watch would pick up was she had no natural talent for any of this. She was going to be climbing an uphill battle to make herself decent at any of it. A sudden loud thwack would go off as she moved incorrectly by not paying attention and the sword would bounce off the post and slam directly into her forehead.

“YEEE-eee-OUCH!”

She squatted down on the floor and held her head. She rubbed it thinking about how stupid she had been. “Focus dummy focus.”

She was wearing her academy attire but without the shoes or socks. She was still having a bit of difficulty pumping chakra through inanimate things. As such she found wall running to be slightly easier without anything on. Something else she really needed to work on.

She stood up and looked at the training dummy. She shifted and put a hand on her hip. She had been working on this two days a week every week for the last month. That made this her eighth time here doing this? Her form certainly was better but the main issue she had…

As she looked over she saw person moving and cutting through things with a blindfold on. She grimaced slightly but just sighed. “I wonder how long it takes to make everything second nature like that.” The person had a very clam expression. No over thinking or anything like that.

Seated upon the training ground stands presiding over the main colosseum entrance, the returning Chuunin observed as both seasoned and aspiring shinobi went about their training, a cigarette lazily drooping from her lips. Though her expression appeared quite listless, her mind was full of thought; Far too much thought.
The energetic youths reminded the shinobi of her own days within the Academy obstacle course and Ancient Forest during her early days of development. They were now days long past, and memory of those experiences seemed far less vivid within her mind's eye as the years continued, yet the results such days had in molding her into the capable shinobi she had become today still remained, they'd laid her foundation. Still, even she understood the journey was far from over, and there remained so much more for her to learn and master as a shinobi; Especially now, considering she'd been isolated from the 'official' shinobi world for so long.
The older teen still hadn't yet made much effort to reunite with most of her friends and relatives; Most of whom likely still assumed her dead. The reason as to why exactly, however, was somewhat of a mystery even to herself. The very idea still invoked strong anxiety within her. How would she even begin to suddenly greet everyone, after being considered dead for so long? How would she begin to explain her disappearance, and all that she had experienced during her absence? How would they even receive her after so many years had passed and so much had changed? Would her sudden presence even become a burden to them, considering that for all this time they had lived and propspered in their lives without her presence at all? She pondered even whether she actually wanted to continue with the idea of reunification, or simply remain a shadow within the Main Branch, silently going about her received missions for the time being without drawing too much attention to herself.
She'd not only been separated from her relatives, close friends, and village for so long, but her very culture and language; Important foundations which had formed the very core of her being. So long had it been, in fact, that upon return her own culture and village now even felt foreign. The youth pondered where her place would be in the village now. In the past, though she still struggled with finding purpose and identity, a sense of place always still seemed available. But now, even that had seemed to disappear. Far too many years had passed. She was a misshaped cog force fitted back into its previous machinery; A cog which had been far too reshaped through harsh weather and environment.

Exhaling a frustrated plume of tobacco smoke, the Chuunin's eyes observed the zealous dark haired youth through a grey cloud. Even if she hadn't been wearing the academy attire, her movements would have been a dead givaway to her shinobi ranking for Siu. The younger girl seemed to be struggling to actually profess in--Well, really, anything from the looks of it.
It was then, the older teen's listless eyes suddenly sparkled with life, finding herself suddenly filled with amusement upon witnessing the unfolded comedy-scene of the youth receiving a rebounded kendo sword right to the forehead, releasing an audible yelp. In conjunction, the Chuunin allowed herself to emit a giggle. How could she herself not relate to that? For even today, she still lacked strong enough efficiency in Taijutsu despite her rank. In the zealous girl's chaotic movements, Siu managed to recognize parts of her own younger self.

The older Chuunin continued to examine the seemingly disappointed younger girl for a time, gazing at her as if in deep contemplation whether to actually say something or allow her to continally be. A faint smile would eventual curl upon her lips.

"I will give you advice." The older teen casually began with a smirk, her amusement from the previous scene still clearly written upon her face. "Better to be mediocre at one thing, than a failure at many." She finished, raising a finger to gesture towards the scattered array of various weaponry strewn about the ground around the younger girl . "A simple philosophy, but it will get you far in shinobi-hood."

She had not even come back to her world until she heard someone say that they would offer her some advice. As she looked she saw a lady approaching, or maybe not approaching but commenting. The lady gestured to all the different shinobi training tools she had around her. She was being told that she really needed to focus on something or else she would never get better. At least that was what she felt like she was being told. She guessed that was true…

The lady had offered advice and she blushed slightly before bowing a full bow to her. “Sorry…thank you for the advice. I-I-m Irie Airi.” She glanced her head up and continued, “I am just…hoping something feels right…right now I have no idea how to develop myself. I am not too good at Genjutsu…so I thought maybe Taijutsu…but now I have no idea what weapon to even consider or if I should even consider a weapon at all.” She had been too nervous to try and just use her fists and legs.

Looking in her small general area nothing she had picked up really stuck to her. Her Ninjutsu was her mediocre thing but she would be too easy to read if she only did one thing. As her thoughts began to compound she picked up the Kendo sword again. There was a theory that if you did the same thing twice and expected a different result you were insane. Well Airi swung again but this time it bounced off the wood, broke free of her hands, and twirled to hit her in the tummy.

This time she swung too hard…maybe trying to impress someone who was actually watching her. She grabbed her stomach and slowly turned to the lady who had been speaking with her. “Umm…what did you decide to be specialized in?” She felt like it was a fair question, and plus this talk gave her an excuse to not keep training. After two hits back and no solid hits on the target she felt this losing battle was killing her motivation.

“Any other advice for a fledgling shinobi?” Asking for handout looked bad but really Airi’s reputation at the academy could not get too much lower. Now that they were weeding out those who really showed no talent after a few months she was drastically getting closer to the chopping block. She needed to show promise somehow so she was getting a little desperate.

Lightly tilting her head from her seated position in response to younger girl's full bow, the Chuunin performed a kind of mutual respect despite being far older. The girl's difficulties in regards to finding her required 'niche' within shinobi world was an affliction Siu herself was far too familiar with. Shortly after the academy student's introduction and explanation regarding her difficulties, the older teen would once again witness the youth resume her training with her previous kendo sword; Cringing a bit upon witnessing the second scene of injury. While once again appearing amused, the Chuunin's face additionally seemed mixed with concern regarding the girl's well-being this time.

Remaining silent for a time after the younger girl's injuries and inquiries, Siu eventually rose a hand in order to remove the cigarette from her mouth and place it between two fingers, exhaling another plume of smoke and gazing towards the sky in what appeared to be contemplation.

"I specialize in Ninjutsu." Came a nonchalant toned reply. "Though, I could also use more work on Taijutsu and Genjutsu, myself." The Chuunin would also pithily empathize with a smirk, tilting her head back down in order to give her attention back to aspiring shinobi.

"It's not a matter of this," She'd begin to illustrate, suddenly flexing her cigarette holding arm, gesturing its muscle with her other index finger.

"Or this," She'd continue on, pointing her fingers outward slightly in front of her and wiggling them in what appeared to be a mockingly majestic manner, afterwards additionally moving her hands about in front of her face in the same manner.

"Nope, it's a matter of this." The teen would conclude by placing her index finger on her head temple, indicating the mind. "It's all a chess game." She'd confidently elaborate. "One uses their available pieces properly, the other uses their available pieces improperly. But what matters more than the actual available pieces themselves is the user's ability to properly utilize them."

Pausing again, the teen inhaled another huff of tobacco, allowing her words to settle in the air for a bit in order to give the youth some time to contemplate more deeply upon the rationale behind them.

"And Taijutsu is an art." She'd further elaborate on with another exhale of smoke, returning her attention back to the girl once again from the sky. "Your problem is you're too focused on the tools over the art. Whether an artist uses a pencil, a paintbrush, or clay doesn't really matter. What's most important is they master the fundamental concepts of the art itself; The basic rules which apply to the use of every tool within that art form; Perspective, form, aesthetics."

"Understand these concepts, and the three arts of the shinobi world become a lot more simple."

At first Airi was surprised that she got a mutual head nod from the lady. She was older, wiser, and prettier than she was. She felt like she was outclassed in every single way. She supposed that returning her favor was more manners than anything else. She mentioned that she specialized in Ninjutsu which she was happy about. Ninjutsu was basically what she felt like she was best at and if this lady was really good at it, she was certain that her advice could really give her the right frame of mind to become better.

The lady also mentioned that she could use work on her Taijutsu and Genjutsu. Certainly everyone needed to constantly improve but to hear that another person struggled with something, as obvious as that was, really put her chest a little more at ease. She watched as the lady flexed her arm saying that it had very little to do with raw strength. After her last example that made sense to her, she rubbed her tummy a bit really thinking about how swinging stupidly hard only hurt her hands and stomach.

She also pointed moving her finger back and forth as if to say form or style did not matter. That really caught her off guard. At first she had thought that would be the real key. After all watching someone swing a weapon around like a fool and one who studied the weapon seemed to make a huge difference in power. At this point she was blatantly confused.

The teenager pointed up to her mind and mentioned that this was the factor that she should really be focusing on. She made a comment about chess…something she had never really played but had seen her brothers play...that even if you had worse pieces you could still win if you used them in a highly efficient manner. That was something that she really had trouble believing. Well she took that back, if they were close enough to her maybe…maybe an acting Genin she could beat, but never someone skilled. She felt herself getting a bit pessimistic but the lady was not wrong.

The next part the teen spoke really hit a cord though. She mentioned that an artist could draw no matter what their tool was. The tool itself did not matter quite as much as the user. In that case she could feel herself thinking, “Maybe then…I really need to not try and learn a tool to make myself better and just make myself better…” She admitted that learning a tool like this was really more of a stop gap than actual progress. She sighed though, she felt like she had a brief push in her ability but now she felt like she was running her wheels in snow.

She felt a complex bubble of thought beginning to bloom. “So beyond just learning what they are…are you talking about mixing them together?” She was close but maybe off a bit. She picked up the kendo sword a bit and said, “Are there Ninjutsu based Taijutsu?” She felt like she was way off. She had been reaching in the dark still trying to properly use chakra in ways other than just empowering handseals.

“Or maybe…are you more so talking about concepts from studying each?” She felt stupid thinking that the lady had given an excellent example and she was just being too slow to apply it. If she was right though how would Ninjutsu even apply to it? She felt like her brain might explode at the thought.

The teen arched an confused eyebrow upon the first inquiry, communicating that the first interpretation had not quite been what she'd meant to communicate to the younger girl.

"The second." The Chuunin pithily answered the youth. "You're getting a little mixed up." She'd correct, her hand performing a gesture near the side of her head in unison with her statement to communicate the notion of confusion.

"That Taijutsu is like an aesthetic art, doesn't mean that Ninjutsu and Genjutsu are also the same. Ninjutsu could be like engineering arts, Genjutsu like the art of....erm.." The teen paused, looking upward for a moment in obvious thought. "....Physics, metaphysics? Who knows--ANYWAYS," She'd move on with a somewhat dismissive gesture, indicating the art's comparison label as not such an significant factor.

"Each art 'form' has its own individual concepts which lay the basic foundations for that art." Further elaborated the Chuunin.

"Now, regarding whether two separate art forms can mix..."

The teen could be observed making a gradual stand in the midst of the statement. Dusting away the collection of dirt from the back of her jacket, she rose a hand to casually place the declining cigarette stick back into her mouth. Shortly afterwards, she would be witnessed suddenly performing a series of handseals.
Initially, nothing seemed to have taken place. However, soon enough there would be a sound akin to wrinkling paper, before a number thin sheets began manisfesting in mid-air around the shinobi, shaping themselves as if they had a mind of their own. The finishing works would eventually reveal themselves to be a multitude of papered shurikens.
Outstretching an open left hand, a set of the shurikens could be witnessed gently settling between each of her fingers, while on her opposing side she'd simply gesture her entire arm in a forward swing; A manner similar to the way one might actually throw projectiles if they were holding any.

The first set of lethal projectiles sped through the air at frighteningly vicious speeds, piercing straight into one of the training dummies near the younger girl with muffled 'thunk''s. A few seconds afterwards, Siu would additionally be witnessed tossing the manisfested projectiles held by her left hand physically herself all at once, in contrast to only the forward gesture she'd done with her right arm while launching the first set. The second barrage also landed inside the training dummy with similarly frightening speed and precision.

"Now," The teen began again nonchalantly, removing the far too dwindled cigarette from between her lips and tossing in on the bench, putting out its remaining fire with a crush of her boot. "Have I just performed Ninjutsu---or Taijutsu?" She'd inquire looking back up to the academy student.

So what she grasped was Airi was so unintelligent that the lady had gotten confused by her lack of an ability to understand. She felt really concerned about the matter but when the lady moved on into the next topic or more so what she brought up Airi figured she would just try and roll with it as opposite to getting stuck in what she did not understand. Maybe she would be able to grasp it if she worked backward from wherever they were going. Unlikely, but hope was a very important thing.

When the lady suddenly started forming hand seals Airi’s eyes budged a bit in surprise. She had not expected to actually see anything happen, this lady happened to come across as more of a talker. As she watched they was a pause then she suddenly heard the sound of crinkling paper. Suddenly around her floating paper shuriken began to spin and move around the lady.

When she outstretched her hand the little shuriken went flying to the target dummy she was near curving at such an amazing angle and firmly killing the poor dummy. The she took her hand and threw a bunch of them performing that same feat. Airi was so shocked that she almost missed when she was asked a question.

Umm…what?

She thought for a moment and looked between the lady and the dummy board. She tilted her head slightly and frowned a bit. “I…would have to guess that while it looked like both…would it not just be a ninjutsu technique?” She had made paper appear out of nowhere and it flew where she wanted. Just because she made a motion of throwing did not mean that she had used a real Taijutsu…

She nodded and said, “No trick questions I think it was a Ninjutsu!” She decided to try and be more adamant about it. One questioned remained in her mind. In her classes they studied jutsu elements…but this? What exactly had she done?

"Officially Correct!" Sounded a praise in addition to a lone applause from atop the stands. "That's exactly what they would teach you in the Academy." The Chuunin informed in a somewhat sarcastic manner, subtly criticizing the system as she could now be observed gradually making her way downward towards the younger girl.

"..However," She'd challenge along the way, leaving a 'cliffhanger' with her statement.

After some time, she'd eventually be witnessed stopping a few feet in front of youth, a hand resting upon her hip and their height difference now more blatantly apparent. The Chuunin's expression appeared to study the academy student's features for a while, before she'd suddenly bend down in order to pick up one the girl's shurikens scattered about the training-ground around her.

"Did that Ninjutsu solely depend on my ability to manipulate and control chakra alone?" Resumed the teen from her rather prolonged silence as she raised the object up in-between two fingers for display in front of the younger girl. "..Or does it also require an understanding of how to utilize this, as well?"

And with that said, another swift movement from the Chuunin would firmly implant the said shuriken straight into the same training dummy, which now rested in the midst of her previous papered barrage.

Her eyes returning back to the young academy student away from their momentary focus upon the dummy during her aim, she'd continue. "How can I possibly effectively aim, shape, maneuver, or dictate the correct velocity required for chakra manipulated shurikens, if I do not even understand the basic concepts of Taijutsu enough to even properly utilize a normal shuriken?" Her facial expression matched the curiosity behind her inquiry, proving her question to actually be more sincere than wholly rhetorical.

"There are many techniques which also require similar mixtures of understandings, some more obvious than others; Such as the lethal Chidori, which requires an awareness similar to when one performs an high-speed taijutsu due its immense speed, or the ability to properly utilize chakra-infused weapons, or the case of utilizing wholly chakra-manifested weapons, and so on, and so forth..." The Chuunin would further elaborate upon with the additional assistance of her hands.

Looking upward for another moment after her kind of 'lecture' as if in another moment of thought, she'd suddenly tilt her head to the side and a smile at the youth. "And I guess when you put it that way, the standards for the categorization of jutsu becomes a bit too ambiguous."

When she said officially correct Airi jumped up in happiness. She was able to answer the question correct which was not really so rare but for some reason it felt different here. She smiled happily that she managed to finally connect things. The lady started to approach her and then the bomb dropped. The however there meant that it was not fully a correct answer. Her face grew a little concerned but more than anything...she wanted to know what would have fully been the right answer.

As she looked up towards the lady and saw someone she wanted to become someday. Pretty, smart, able to do cool things and teach students...yea this is what she should aspire to be.

As the lady looked her over she felt...less than average. The lady picked up a shuriken off the ground and looked at it as well. As such she mentioned again that did it solely rely on Ninjutsu or did it matter that she knew how to throw a shuriken. The girl thought to herself that of course for that ninjutsu she would need the ability to know how shuriken move.

She now was starting to see the actual lesson and the girl smiled slightly. She needed to flow the concepts together and not treat them as separate things. Knowing how different things work will allow yourself the freedom to see things from different angles and become stronger. Just like that paper technique. She looked behind her looking at all of the shuriken in the training dummy.

What she was mediocre at was chakra flow and ninjutsu. If she applied that to her taijutsu training...would that allow her to get stronger? A few possibilities maybe?

As she looked back the lady began to go into a technique like...Ch...Chor...Chidori? The she went onto chakra infusing weapons or even weapons made wholly out of chakra. Yes in those cases maybe in most cases...yea she should start to study those techniques. If she can then maybe she can apply them to her standard taijutsu training.

When the lady finished her explanation Airi lifted up her hands, “I think you are right but without classifications it is hard to teach basics. Though i think as Genin we start to learn what it is you are talking about! You must be really amazing! Like a Jounin!”

She was impressed and while she did not think she was a teacher...she still had great knowledge. “I’ll remember this...so i can pass it on when I’m older.” She then started to move around and pick up the gear so that way it was not just scattered everywhere.

“That really helps me plan out how I should move forward. Is there anyway i can repay your kindness?” As she finished pulling the few metal shuriken from the target she smiled. Clearly excited to try doing what the lady said.

“I would feel bad not giving you something in return. This really helps me a lot.”

The teenager blushed upon the sudden comparison to the level of someone as high as a Jounin, bringing a fist to her mouth in order to clear her throat in a few faint, sheepish grunts. "Erm....no..not quite." She'd bashfully mutter in response, feeling quite far from the skill required for such a high rank. A pleased smile did manage to curl upon the Chuunin's lips, however, upon realizing that her lecture had not been in vain and, in fact, very much appreciated. The younger girl seemed very enthusiastic to put what she had learned into practice.

Observing the academy student gather her belongings, Siu would find herself struck with an offer somewhat foreign to her ears; The offer to repay back her natural kindness. Immediately, two waving hands signaled a somewhat hectic 'no'.

"I don't need anything." She'd affirm in a surprised manner. Her eyes did gaze upward for a brief moment after the statement, however, as was her usual habit when contemplating in the midst of conversation. "But there is something you can do for me in return."

Gradually crouching, she'd eventually come eye level to the young girl before her, a reassuring smile holding for a few moments before shifting into an expression far more solemn. The academy student would feel a sudden tap upon her head temple.

"Develop this." She'd hear in a slightly authoritative tone.

The finger would hold there for a while as if providing the academy student time to think, Siu's somewhat intense gaze upon her, before another, semi-harder tap would be experienced by the younger girl; This time upon her chest, right where her heart should have been.

"But do not lose this in the process."

Her gaze remained for a few more seconds before the same hand reached up to pat the girl upon the head.

"Can you...do that for me, Miss Irie? Even when things become very difficult?" Outwardly, her lips reformed the same reassuring smile as before, yet a more thorough inspection of her eyes would reveal far deeper emotions, emotions which seemed to contradict so strongly that they made the very smile upon her face appear feigned; Eyes which could best be described as the kind a concerned, somewhat saddened mother gave to a child they understood would be leaving home for war soon.

Gradually standing back upright, the older Chuunin nonchalantly pocketed her hands.

"I have faith that one day you'll becoming an amazing kunoichi." She stated with a sincere tone to the upcoming shinobi. And with that, the older female would turn around, raising a hand to wave from behind without actually turning around to look back at the younger girl as she made her way to depart from the Colosseum.

The lady was funny to her. She was thinking that she would say of course or something like that but she did not. She actually looked thrown off by her complimenting her and offering her something in return. Of course an upper level shinobi could not be given anything from an academy student and it would be adequate. Kindness was all this lady was really offering to her. When she mentioned that there was something she could do for her she perked up her ears.

When the lady came over to her she crouched down making sure they would be at eye level. She felt a tap against her forehead and she looked really confused until the lady said that she should really develop her mind but to make sure to never lose her heart. She saw the intensity behind her gaze and she nodded. She felt her head getting patted and she thought about how her father used to do that with her the same way. Whenever she had to promise anything she always got her head patted.

She was asked if she could do that even when things got hard and Airi swallowed. “Yes! I’ll be sure to do it! I’ll be strong!”

Well…as strong as she could be anyway. She was going to continue training, today was her heard day after all. She would apply everything she learned here today and make sure she really could meld and apply her techniques. Hopefully this would keep her floating until she had her big break.
