Name: Ajisashi, Yosuke
Age: 11
Gender: Male
Sex: Male
Rank: Academy Student
General Description: Yosuke is a tall, scrawny kid. He has a sort of wiry musculature from his time pulling in nets full of fish on his father's boat, but from a distance, he looks like a slight breeze could push him over. He stands at about 1 meter and 60 centimeters, weighing all of 40kg. His fluffy white hair is frequently tied behind his head. His skin is tanned with a smattering of freckles on his face and shoulders from working in the hot sun most days. He sports his father's broad nose between a pair of tired brown eyes. He frequently looks like the world has let him down, but he's too exhausted to care. He wears a stretched-out old brown sweater with a dark t-shirt underneath. His pants are a pair of fishermen's trousers, probably the nicest thing he owns after his thick, waterproof boots. The young man slouches whenever he's standing, making him seem shorter than he really is, and his general lack of confidence is evident at a glance. However, if you watch him closely, there is a confidence in the way he moves. His hands and feet move deliberately and with the experience of a child born and raised on a ship. Yosuke had always been an unwilling participant in everything life had thrown at him, a sense of responsibility instilled in him as the eldest of 6. However, with his admission into the Academy, his outlook on life is changing for the better. He finds himself strangely at home among the strenuous and frightening curriculum of the Academy, often surprising his teachers and peers with his pain tolerance. He finds training to be far less strenuous than the work he was used to on the docks. It was exhausting, certainly, but here he had a purpose. To grow stronger every day and learn new things about the world and himself. His old life was drudgery just for the sake of living, but the life of a shinobi is exciting. Every day, he wakes up with a smile on his face, and that defeated look he usually wears shows up less and less often.
History: Yosuke was born in a medium-sized port town on the eastern coast of Lightning. It's located far enough north that it doesn't compete with Tenouza, allowing the city to benefit from merchants seeking to avoid the higher costs of a bigger port. He's the oldest of 6 children, born to a kind mother and an uncaring father. After giving birth to his youngest sister, Yosuke's mom passed away, leaving him to take care of himself and his siblings while his father stoically provided for them. From the time they could walk, every boy in the Ajisashi house was taught to tie knots, pull in lines, swim, and perform any other essential skills needed to function on a fishing boat. As the eldest son, Yosuke was taught all that and more to continue on the family business. He learned his letters from his mother while she was still alive and kept up his literacy by teaching his siblings. His skills as a fighter were honed on the streets, getting caught up in scraps started by his troublesome younger brothers. He learned quickly how to make a fist and how to avoid one. All his siblings were tested at the appropriate times for eligibility to attend the Academy in Kumo, but his father always dragged him away on a fishing trip whenever the examiner came around. After dodging the test for 2 years, one of their neighbors reported them to the local authorities, who warned the Ajisashi patriarch that he'd receive a hefty fine the next time he tried to dodge the exam. So, on his eleventh year alive, Yosuke's life was changed forever. He was deemed eligible for attendance and would be moving to the Village Hidden in the Clouds. Upon hearing the news, his father merely sighed and told him to send some cash back whenever he started making money as a shinobi. The thread of responsibility that had tied Yosuke to his family was severed that day. He gathered his things, kissed all of his siblings goodbye, walked out the door, and never looked back.
