Another day, another mission, another turning point, a fork stuck in the road. But Zashi’s goal was far from sticking forks in the road – he had a much simpler mission than his usual escapades. Walk a dog? What a cake walk! One more mission, one more chance to prove his worth. He was hell-bent on taking on C-rank missions. Then he’d start to make a difference – fighting off criminals, protecting Suna, and finally making enough money to pay off his landlord. Bless that man for his patience. Plus, there was that one mission Zashi really wanted. Noble though he was, the boy had been working overtime. Michi was supposed to be coming to town, and she needed an escort. So far, nobody had taken up the mission, and he had his heart set on it. To Zashi, that was a paid vacation.
He eagerly rang the doorbell to a large mansion – ironically, near where his first “mission” had been. He tried not to think about that. He was immediately greeted by a large woman, wearing more pearls than a parade of oysters. She whisked him up into a hug, practically singing with delight.
”Oh, you must be Mr. Arawe~! You’re so so short though!” ”Well, I—“ ”But you’re so strapping and youthful oh just tell me how you manage to dress so blandly!” ”Truth be told I—“ ”But you simply must be hungry, help yourself to the pantyy. Dumpling just woke up so he’s a bit groggy but oh my oh my how he will grow on you!”
”Ma’am. I’m fine. I’m sure your dog is fantastic. I like dogs. Walking him will be a cinch. You enjoy your evening now, yeah?”
”Oh, you charmer. I figured you for a dog person, dear. Now, we’ll catch up later.” The lady swung herself into a carriage next to a man who was presumably her husband. ”You be safe!” The carriage took off in a blink, leaving the whirlwind of conversation to settle. Dog. That was his priority now.
He opened the door, pleased to see that it was left unlocked, and walked in. A tiny dog, flapping its jowls, ran up to Zashi, licking at his calves. ”Aw, hey there buddy.” He picked up the tiny pup, giving it a smooch on the snout. ”I’ve seen you running around the alleys. Who would’ve guessed you’re secretly a superstar?” The dog licked Zashi’s face before it quickly went pale as he saw the dog’s collar.
”Coffee...? Wait, you’re not Dumpling—“ Suddenly, a giant hound tackled Zashi, slobbering all over him and smashing its paws against his face. Luckily, Zashi’s screams were just loud enough for the butler to hear. After a quick trip to the hospital, the boy began his mission, walking the behemoth through the streets of Suna. Save for a few puzzling stares and dislocated arms, it went well. So well, in fact, he was invited to have dessert with Ms. Yubeshi later.
He politely declined. Something about dumplings just didn’t sound appetizing.
