Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

It was finally here! The day that everyone at the Academy had been anticipating for the past month or so to see who among the students were ready to graduate from this prestigious establishment and join the shinobi ranks as a fresh, new Genin. The sun was already high in the air and the air surrounding the educational facility was dry and tainted with blood as many students had already had their moment to graduate and failed to capitalize on the opportunities that were presented to them or they simply left their nerves get to them far too much. Their slip-ups, if one wanted to call it that, left many of them bleeding from their injuries while a few of them had been met with broken bones and a small handful had to be rushed to the Hospital simply because they had been left in a critical state that forced them to have to seek immediate attention.

As you would approach after receiving a letter a week in advance designating the time and the location of your exam, you would notice that there were many adults in the training ground where you were suppose to have your exam, but the majority of them were too busy trying to clean up the area that had been tainted with the life essence of the young and the old who had met one another in combat. You could see that only a few individuals had their clothing stained in blood and you could likely assume that they had been the examiners that had sent many of your fellow classmates home early with their tails between their legs. Would you prove to be another number and have to take your graduation exam again when the Academy decided to have another one or would you prove yourself worthy enough to be given your own headband that clearly marked that you were a shinobi and warrior of the Hidden Sand, the strongest village in the world depending on who you asked?

According to your letter, you had two options when you first entered the training grounds on the outskirts of the Academy's grounds. Your first option was to demand that you were given your examination immediately regardless of what the scene around you was and by choosing this option, you would begin your session promptly with an examiner entering the designated area clearly marked off for the students that wanted to begin their graduation exam. However, your other option was to wait until your designated time slot was reached, which was 3 PM for you, and then one of the shinobi that were assisting the Academy would come over to you and get you squared away in a timely fashion. Aside from these two options and when and where to meet for your examination, your letter gave you no other information that would prove helpful unless you considered the standard "good luck" to be helpful which many did not. You likely were begging and pleading when you originally read the contents of the letter to at least know what you would be doing and who was your examiner, but unfortunately, you lucked out like the rest of your classmates did.

With yourself where you needed to be and with roughly ten minutes before your scheduled time to begin your exam, what would you do? Choose wisely as your actions would likely have equal and opposite reactions depending on who decided to step up and be your examiner for the day.

Natsume wrinkled her nose as she entered the examination area. The sight was abominable and the smell wasn't much better. She was aware that blood and such was a necessary and common fact concerning her chosen career path, but that didn't mean that she had to enjoy the sight or the scent of it. Mostly, the scene before her just made her want to wretch. She did her best not to make her discomfort clearly noticeable, however, lest that be translated incorrectly into some form of nervousness or fear. She was definitely not nervous or fearful about her chance to finally prove herself and graduate from the academy. Instead, she was excited and hopeful. This was her big chance! Her first promotion!

Having finally reached the end of her academy days, Natsume's parents had traded out her training bokken for an actual sword and scabbard for her to carry into her time as a genin and she now found herself idly playing with the weapon at her hip, either flicking it in and out of position in its scabbard or fidgeting with her grip on the handle. It was something difficult to get used to as this was much different than her bokken despite the wooden sword being meant to train her in the use of an actual weapon. In time she'd be just as accustomed to wielding an actual sword as she was with carrying a fake one, there was no doubt about that.

She took a quick glance at the clock as she waited. Ten more minutes to glory! However... the message she'd received had said that she could request to start immediately upon arrival. If that was the case why would they give her an appointment time though? Unless this was part of the test? But if this was part of the test what would be the right answer? To request to be tested immediately could be taken positively as being an eager and proactive person, but it could also be taken negatively as being hotheaded and rushing into situations without taking the time to analyze them beforehand. If she waited till the allotted time then that displayed patience and obedience, but could also mean that they'd see her as unmotivated or perhaps someone who doesn't think outside the box? Maybe if she asked to get her exam done early she'd just annoy her examiner and they'd do something terrible to force her to flunk. This was a really important choice and she felt like she needed to weigh all the possibilities for success before just diving straight in head first. Her future was on the line!

As it so happened, she made her choice without actually meaning to make a choice at all as ten minutes passed in what felt to be only a minute or two to her. She didn't even realize that her time was up as she remained standing there with a look of intense thought and concentration on her face, her tongue poking just a touch from the corner of her mouth as she continued to weigh the possibilities that had already passed her by.

The next student that would be tested today would be Aikayume Natsume, a member of the well-known and prestigious Aikayume, and a young lady that had appeared to have been doing fairly well for herself since enrolling in the Academy according to some of the reports. In the report that her examiner had been studying to prepare herself for this fateful encounter, there had been nothing negatively said about her as she had done what was asked of her and had been doing the best that she could according to the numerous individuals that had seen her growing throughout her time. However, the classroom was far different than the graduation examination that had been conducted throughout the day thus far for obvious reasons and one could only hope that she had came prepared to showcase her skills and talent or risk going back to the Academy for months until the next graduation exam opened up. Thankfully, she had shown up early and would not piss off her examiner in that regard while deciding to wait till her time slot which was the correct choice based on this examiner; if it had been Lady Kyushiko or Lord Kyuji of the Byakko Clan, that possibly would have been the incorrect choice depending on the time of day and the events that occurred to them prior to the examination.

For her sake since she was likely a nervous wreck, her examiner would walk over to her with her bow in her left hand and extend her right hand to the student as she sternly addressed her: "Lady Natsume of the Aikayume Clan, welcome to your graduation exam. I am not going to beat around the bush and waste your time or my own as it has been a long day and I am exhausted from all of these examinations. Tell me, why do you think you are worthy of being a shinobi in this cold world and not simply another citizen of our village who goes down a different path in their lives and creates a fruitful career out of it?" Her words, direct. Her voice, so cold. It was almost like something was troubling her or she simply did not want to be here dealing with these nuisances since she already had to deal with two of them as they grew up in the Byakko Clan: Yanjirou and Kyushiko. Nevertheless, time would tell the tale of Natsume's encounter with her examiner and if she would manage to survive or be sent to the emergency room with life-threatening wounds. If there was anything one could tell her, it was that she needed to be prepared for anything and everything as these examinations could get quite dicey at times in their village. But, that was to prepare the shinobi for the future that they would all have to endure from foreigners attacking their nation to people from their own country causing bloodshed and destruction.

As for the examiner herself, she had adorable cat-ears on her head which meant only one thing in the Lands of Wind Country. It meant that this woman was a member of the Toraono Clan, but in particular the Byakko Clan who housed Lady Yanshi who resided over the clan and her husband wife significant other who went by the adopted name of Byakko Kyuji. If one knew more about the Byakko Clan, they would be able to make out who this individual was that was standing in front of Natsuru, but alas it was unlikely that Natsume knew who it was especially since this cat-lady didn't exactly make a name for herself nor was as infamous as Lady Yanshi or Lord Kyuji. Then again, she may have heard of other members of the Byakko Clan through the grapevine, but it was highly unlikely. She would however know who this cute, green haired maiden of the Byakko Clan was before all was said and done, that was a guarantee.

Natsume blinked as she suddenly found herself approached with an offered hand and questions, her eyes clearing from their thoughtful cloudiness to take in the appearance and words of her... examiner? She blinked again quickly and glanced at the time before giving a quick whistle. Well, that had been unintentional, but it appeared that everything had worked out alright!

With that settled, Natsume greeted her new acquaintance with a cheery grin and a strong grip of her hand for a hardy shake. "Hi!" she began quite informally. "I'm here cuz I'm destined to make a huge impact on this world as a shinobi. To not become a ninja would just be a huge waste of my awesome potential, ya know! I'm gonna be the greatest of them all!" If she noticed the other's cold and distanced behavior she didn't make it known at all, only continuing to be her extremely confident and positive self.

Once she'd finished answering the question, Natsume raised a brow and tilted her head to the side just a bit with a flick of her tail. "So I guess you already know my name, but I definitely don't know yours?" she hinted, indicating quite clearly that she'd like to know the name of the girl who was chosen to decide whether she passed or failed at becoming a genin.

A firm handshake would be met from the seemingly hyperactive girl in front of her as the kitsune would explain her reasoning for wanting to become a shinobi in this cold, harsh world that they all lived in. Her answer was a naive if her examiner had ever heard one, but it was not unexpected since many of her fellow classmates that had fallen expressed the same outlook and emotions towards becoming a shinobi as she did. Hopefully though for her sake, she would prove herself worthy of passing her examiner's trial and would not need to be concerned with how to preoccupy herself or tell her family that she was stuck in the Academy for a longer period of time considering she was from a well-known clan in the village who had students attend and pass the Academy in such a short amount of time. For her sake, one would have to hope that she was not an outlier or a black sheep of her family.

But before the examination could continue, little Natsume would ask the Byakko in front of her for a name since the examiner had plenty of information already on Natsume of the Aikayume Clan due to her permanent record in the Academy and from the word of mouth from her teachers. It was a simple request from the kitsune lass and one that was completely understandable since they would be spending quite some time together for this examination. Unfortunately for her though, an annoyed look would formulate on the woman in front of her as she retreated her hand to her side as she addressed Natsume again in such a cold, distant tone: "Why does my name have any meaning for you? I am from the Byakko Clan and nobody that you need to know about, Aikayume. Your focus should be on your exam and passing it, not on trivial matters like my name. However, you will be given the honor of knowing it if you manage to pass my graduation exam. I believe that is a fair exchange, no?"

Once she was finished, she would turn her back to the girl and proceed to walk away from her to the designated location clearly marked off for the exam. If she chose to follow, it would be ideal, but if she decided to stay idle and look like a simple fool, her examiner would stop only once and tell her to follow her. Regardless, once she was standing in the marked off location for the exam, she would turn around and simply say: "Are you prepared?" One could only hope that Natsume was prepared and was not going into her examination in a form of winging it as many students had tried to do and ended being carted or carried away by medics. Her opponent was a member of the Byakko Clan after-all; they were known for not being easy people to fight in combat and slightly hot-headed depending on the individual that you spoke to or known from the clan.

"Well I mean... names aren't really a big deal, right?" Natsume answered with a shrug of apathy. "I just wanted to know the name of the person who was giving me my exam, but that's fair enough to find out at the end too, I guess." She couldn't say that she wasn't even the least bit put off by the other girl's attitude toward her request, but if she wanted to keep playing all cold and distant like that then Natsume could adapt.

As the other departed toward what appeared to be their allotted location to do their exam stuff, Natsume was quick to follow with a few quick jogging steps to catch up a bit before slowing to a walk to arrive along with her examiner, not more than a second behind.

At the question of whether she was prepared, Natsume would shoot out an extremely confident thumbs up with a positively sparkling smile. "Yup!" she answered cheerily. She'd make this other girl do something other than frown by the end of this if she had anything to say about it.

If there was one word to describe how this member of the Byakko Clan was feeling right now, it was annoyance. Pure annoyance at how uplifting and positive this member of the Aikayume Clan was being about everything. While most of the students displayed the same demeanor when they were asked the same questions as Natsume, they had acted quite differently when they had received the cold, distant responses from their examiner which prompted them to adjust accordingly and lose their positiveness quite rapidly. This change in their demeanor may have mentally caused them to fail their examinations or they simply were under-prepared or physically outmatched by their examiner. Regardless, some of the students had managed to pass by the skin of their teeth, but most of them had failed miserably and had been carried off to the Hospital. Would Natsume be another number or would she surprise the green-haired feline-like woman that stood opposite of her and pass without much trouble at all. Only time would truly tell.

For now however, the Aikayume's examiner would simply nod at her and say coldly: "Very well. Show me your version of the Transformation Jutsu and Clone Jutsu. You do not have to use the basic forms of these jutsu if you have learned a more advanced version in your studies and feel more comfortable with them. However, you will be judged on what you present to me so choose wisely, Natsume." As soon as she finished, she would stand there and await the presentation from this student on the request that she had asked to be done. Hopefully, the young Aikayume truly had come prepared and knew some form of these techniques or a simple lack of knowledge was going to likely snowball into some far bigger and more dangerous for her especially with the woman that was opposite of her quite tired with all of these examinations today and wanting to simply go home and rest. For her sake, one could only hope and pray that she was ready for anything and everything along with going through the ringer if she truly had to considering she had already slightly annoyed her examiner with her simple, positive attitude. However, she could possibly get lucky and be given a far simpler exam than the ones before her too; it was truly up in the air and anything could possibly happen so one could only hope that Fate was on the side of Aikayume Natsume.
