Kiri waited by the door as the doctor in-charge was finishing up putting the bundle of papers together. He watched carefully as the man would wrapped them in a special cloth-like material before putting them inside a large envelop. Then, he would entrust it to Kiri to take it back to Kumogakure’s main hospital. These were all the updated medical records of the people of Port Cirrus, just as requested by the hospital. Bringing it back would help the census as well as control or detect any form of epidemic. Not that there was one, but prevention and proper documentation was always important for preparations and future responses.
Bowing, the doctor would leave it to Kiri’s capable hands now. Known to be a tradestown, it was almost likely that the passing of the documents would be known even to the unwanted smugglers and syndicates. As such, it was necessary that they be sent with utmost protection. And from Kiri’s former errand in town, where he had to recover one of the patient’s personal medicines from smuggler pirates, he, too, knew, this would make him a probable target.
Putting the envelop into his slingbag, Kiri would begin the journey. He made sure to be quick in his movements from the clinic. He kept a good lookout for anyone who could be following him. He would soon sneak out from Port Cirrus without much of a problem. However, while it was a cause for caution to be in a crowded place such as that porttown, it was also quite a similar concern when it involved having to move along the plains. The sweeping landscape could easily be filled by enemies should they try to ambush him, though it was also too open for any real ambush to be set up. As such, Kiri preferred its path than the forest where the trees could potentially harbor those unwanted criminals.
With about a couple of days of travel, Kiri made sure that he would not be caught offguard. When nighttime came, he preferred staying under the starry night sky. It allowed him to see in the dark and would not have to make a campfire. That would only make his presence more noticeable to the outside forces. He stuck to some canned foods as well, not wanting to divert his attention and energy to hunting, as well as possibly luring some other creatures from the smell of it.
On the second day, he would be around a few kilometres away from Kumogakure and it wouldn’t have to take long. A mountain pass was all that’s left, but this was when it got tricky and dangerous. The moment he had reached the middle of the pass, he felt it. The presence of multiple chakra in the air, not enough to be threats, but enough to show the life within them. Even the beast inside him was stirred of their presence because it was seemingly out of the blue.
Then a man would appear on top one of the boulders along the way, a sickle in hand. “Leave the documents, boy. That and you can leave here alive.” At those words, more appeared around him, some on the edge, and some from behind. They were nothing more than thieves, mountain bandits he presumed, but they weren’t as petty as those smuggler pirates from the port. One of them was seemingly bestowed with enough chakra power to begin assaulting him with fire from his mouth.
At once, Kiri jumped into action. The fire assault would only blow through a shade version of Kiri as he would appear father down from the man. At that point, Kiri let loose his chakra onto his shadow and spiralling spears made of shadow would erupt from the ground and catch the man off guard. The others were quick to follow suit, wielding their weapons, both blades and projectiles shooting. Kiri would almost appear to be dancing in his attempt to avoid them, before he would make a quick gesture and thrust his hand above. Immediately, there was a collision of thunder and lightning that ran across the area, stunning those nearby. Finally, the boss of the group sent the sickle flying at him. It would curve with precision as the man would pull on the chains that were attached to the end of it. A dance among blades began and Kiri had to be careful, pulling the sling bag close to him for it could be that the man was only meaning to snatch it away from him in the moment of confusion.
But he would not let this go on. It would be troublesome if more were coming to help these bandits. So he would first come to a stand still, before he seemingly faded into the darkness of the mountain. This stunned the bandit who looked out in utter shock, and before he could glance away, a hand would strike him from behind. It wasn’t a deathly blow, but enough to send the man in pain as the hand was charged with electric current. Kiri shook his hand afterwards, noting that he still needed some practice on his chidori, before he proceeded to run.
Running without stopping, Kiri would reach the village gates soon enough. Upon entering, he knew he was close to the end. And come nightfall, he would finally reach the hospital where he handed in the village medical records. A hearty meal and a good night’s rest was waiting for him no later.
