Personality: Bankai's personality varies to the situation. He can be cold and calculating, ruthless and somewhat evil while in battle to a carefree boy who is always interested in learning new things that he missed out on as a child. Something that was one of the hardest things for him to learn from his father was that there would come a time where you may even have to lay down your life for your comrades. He was trained before to view anything that compromises your mission as disposable. Here he was being thought something entirely different. Because of several changes he is struggling with his personality sometimes tend to be distorted or even confusing.
History: Bankai was experimented on as a child. His memories are all just flashes of his former life while he is asleep. He did not know his name or knew he even had one until he met his adopted father on the road one faithful day who gave him a name. His name as he was once called ES-1 by his superiors simply meaning "Experiment Subject One" being the first of his kind was before meeting his adopted father. His home was a laboratory, a place where love and compassion were non existent. He remembered the things they told him about what a soldier is supposed to be like, nothing more than a slave that had no authority to question superiors and must obey their commands on a whim. Even though he was taught to kill persons under orders, his conscience knew what he was doing was wrong until he was ordered to kill a small child. A child that even his cold hearted nature knew did not deserve to die. Upon refusal of such an order, his superiors ordered his ex communication and subsequent execution. Bankai escaped from this badly wounded in his escape attempt and it was at this point he met his adoptive father who tried his best in inculcate certain traits that most people would be familiar with such as kindness, compassion, loyalty and to do things not out of compulsion but out of free will. Bankai enjoys the sand and its rich color even though seemingly devoid of life, can move and bend in the wind just as he is. His adoptive father always tells him of the beauty of the sand village. How great heroes who just like him had a strong sense of justice and never wanted anyone to be taken advantaged of. Bankai in his young mind, still looks up to these heroes of the sand and with such desires agreed with his father that he wishes to fight those who are a threat to the sand.
