Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The air behind the Konoha Academy carried a crispness to it - cool shade cast by the tall trees mingled with the gentle scent of grass and worn wood from the old training dummies set along the field’s edge. It was quieter here, removed from the hum of the village streets and the echo of Academy lectures. A familiar sort of quiet Shun had always liked, up until recently when the streets fell a different, eerie quiet due to the virus. Thankfully, due to his comrades efforts, life was beginning to slowly fill the streets again. There was still much to repair and rebuild, but with time, Konoha would overcome.

Near one of the old training posts, Shun stood alone, sleeves rolled neatly to the elbows, exposing forearms faintly marked by chakra practice. His hands moved through a steady sequence of hand signs - each seal pressed together with care, each breath controlled and measured. Frost began to bloom across his skin, fine as threads of spun glass, before breaking off and weaving through the air. Ice chakra flowed outward, curling like silver ribbon toward the target. It twisted once, then twice, before hardening mid-flight into a delicate arc of frozen needles. They struck the post with a soft crackle, embedding perfectly - sharp and exact - just deep enough to shake the frost from the bark without shattering on impact.

His brow drew down in faint concentration, but he said nothing. No exhale of satisfaction. No words of praise. Just a slow release of chakra as the technique dissolved into the air once more.

Without pause, Shun stepped forward, drawing a pair of dulled training kunai from his belt. He slid into a short melee pattern, his footwork precise on the uneven earth. His movements flowed with quiet confidence - like water finding its course - each step measured, each slash pulled back just short of full force. He wasn’t attacking, not really. He was refining. Testing his angles. Watching the way his shoulders shifted. Correcting imperfections he had allowed to become habit. To anyone watching, it might’ve looked like a dance: silent, fluid, exacting.

It had been a week since he met her - the stranger from distant lands with sharp eyes and steadier composure. A week since he offered to show her the Academy grounds and, one day, test his blade against hers. He hadn’t forgotten her words, or the way something in her gaze had lingered, as if she saw more in him than he did. It stuck with him. Pressed against the inside of his thoughts even now.

One week. Not long. But long enough to show a sliver of improvement - his throws had tightened, his chakra flow more responsive - but still, he felt the gnawing edge of insufficiency. Danger never waited. And he knew better than to believe peace lasted.

There’s still more I can do.
There has to be.

He exhaled sharply, turning into another slash.

I have to overcome this.
I need to focus.

His strikes came a little faster now - not reckless, but urgent. Not for show. Not for praise. For preparation. For the next time he’d have to fight. For the people he couldn’t afford to fail.

A week had passed since a mere investigation into an unknown establishment, known as an arcade, flourished into a potential alliance and friendship with a younger, inexperienced shinobi from the Hidden Leaf. The investigation was simply from curiosity as the half-breed did not see nor experience what the location offered back home. However, meeting Shun was a bonus as he seemed ambitious and had a spark in his eyes that she did not see often back home after the torment and abuse that many, including herself, had endured for long periods of time. She knew that one foreigner would not be able to make a significant change nor was she looking for allies in new places to recruit for an army to fight back against her home country. It was a stroke of luck that Shun was interested in her story and wanted to help her in the future.

Today, however, would be different and more strategic than their initial encounter. She had been offered by Shun to meet him near the main training grounds for the tour that he promised. It would be a good chance to continue her research into the variances between her home and a shinobi village and country. With having a shinobi of the village with her, it would allow her to ask questions and make comments to someone who understand how their village worked and also likely keep the ones, who were set out to monitor her during her, stay happy as well since she was not alone. Hopefully, her acquaintance would prove fruitful information for her and their time spent together would be beneficial for both parties.

Luckily for Shun, Tomomi had arrived earlier than he had and she had seen the young man begin likely one of many different training regimes that he had under his belt. She didn't say anything as she observed his movements, his techniques, and how his body reacted to what he did. He knew what he was doing from her perspective, but he needed to refine himself more and show more confidence in his abilities - she could tell he was still inexperienced, but he was trying. As he picked up his speed with his kunai, she would make her presence to him by walking up to him during a mid-strike and putting her hands on his fists utilizing her brute strength to likely stop his movement, holding him in place. Regardless, she would stare into his eyes with her own and say, but one word: "Hi."

He hadn’t expected the weight of her hands - not mid-swing, not when the morning air still carried the chill of early dew and he’d been convinced he was alone.

The kunai froze in place as her grip wrapped cleanly around his fists. Shun’s reaction was almost imperceptible - a quiet flicker in his eyes, a brief stilling of breath - but inside, the surprise bloomed like a spark behind his ribs.

She greeted him simply, eyes locking with his.

Shun's lips twitched with a hint of a smile. “Well, so much for being early.”

He slowly let his hands fall to his sides, the kunai brushing against his leg as he stepped back, gaze scanning her face with quiet curiosity. “You move quiet. If I didn’t know better, I’d say you were trying to make a point.”

The humor in his voice was light, but not mocking. He was impressed, and not trying to hide it.

“I was hoping to squeeze in a warm-up before you got here. Look like I’ve been training all morning. Polished, focused, intimidating.” His hand lifted to his hair, brushing a few strands out of his eyes with mock flourish. “Clearly, you’ve ruined the illusion.”

A beat passed before he tilted his head, a curious glint in his eyes. “How long were you watching?”

There was no accusation in the question - only genuine intrigue. The idea that she’d been silently observing him struck something between embarrassment and intrigue. He couldn’t decide if it made him want to hide or train harder.

Without waiting for an answer, he motioned toward the path leading deeper into the training grounds. “Come on. Let’s get started before you scare me again. I was thinking we could hit the main field first, then circle around to the medical sector.”

Unsurprisingly to Tomomi, she had caught him off-guard when she intervened in his training and the words began to flow out of his mouth once more as they did at the arcade a week ago. She was not one to talk much given her upbringing nor did she have many words to say to him like before. They had agreed to meeting one another today and she had held up her promise to him, but she was watching him, observing him, and evaluating him with each word and action that he showcased to her. Likely due to being young and naive, he hadn't picked up that she was doing this, but she could always be wrong since they were acquaintances and they did not know one another that well yet.

Regardless, she would allow him to ask all his questions and make all his comments to her before he gestured for her towards a path. She would walk closer to the boy putting a hand on his shoulder while looking past him in the distance - she could feel the strength and potential in him that he had yet to unlock, but he would come to discover it soon. It might not be before they held their contest, but he would learn one way or another even if Tomomi needed to get it out of him. "Keep training and you will one day be my equal. Always be alert as someone may be watching you from afar and studying your movements, your combat prowess, and how you react to it all" she would say calmly with no fluctuation in her voice from her normal demeanor.

A brief pause and she would continue. "I saw your warm-up from the beginning, Shun. You will need to define your tools more before we cross blades, fists, or whatever else you want to use against me in combat." She would then move her hand resting on his shoulder as a kunai appeared in her hand from seemingly nothingness, before she flicked it into the bullseye of a nearby training dummy. "Go on and be a good host now, Shun." Hopefully, the boy could prepare his mind and body for the task at hand after being surprised and given more friendly advice from his elder.

Shun stayed quiet at first, absorbing her words with the kind of focus he usually reserved for missions. Her words echoed more than he expected them to - maybe because they weren’t cruel. Just true. Honest in a way that bypassed his defenses.

She had been watching. Judging. Testing.

He swallowed that quietly, letting the moment pass before turning toward her with the kind of calm he was still learning to fake.

He glanced at the kunai lodged in the dummy, then back to her. “You really don’t hold back,” he said, voice light but not careless. “I guess I should’ve expected that.”

He almost left it there - but something in her gaze made it clear she wasn’t here just to knock him down. She was measuring something. Maybe even waiting for him to step up.

So he did.

With a small nod, Shun turned and motioned toward a narrow path tracing the edge of the academy field. “Come on. I’ll give you the short tour. It’s not glamorous, but it’s where I started figuring out how to hold my own.”

As they walked, his thoughts drifted back - too easily - to memories that never really left.

He gestured toward a cracked old training post shaded by a crooked tree, its bark worn from years of strikes. “That one there… I must’ve hit it a thousand times. My form was garbage, my footing even worse. I was too timid to reach out to other people and ask for help, so I went to my dad. He built me a training field of my own in our back yard, and he taught me what he remembered from his time.”

His tone softened, just a little. “My mom went missing on a mission when I was still a kid. My dad was against me joining at first, but I think losing her is why I got so attached to this place. It felt like the one place I could get closer to her…even if just by trying to walk the same path.”

He stopped beside the old post for a moment, brushing a hand across one of the deeper gouges in the wood.

“I don’t know if that makes sense to anyone but me,” he added, half-laughing at himself. “But hey, everyone’s got their reasons for pushing forward, right?”

A breath slipped out - easier now.

The adventure - the tour - would begin shortly after Tomomi made her appearance to the younger one. She could tell her sudden appearance had surprised the boy, but he didn't allow it to get to him and attempted his best to be a good host to his foreign friend. They would begin the tour by going down a narrow path at the edge of the academy field before arriving at a training post that had seen better days as it appeared to have been used a lot which Shin would promptly explain that he had used it a lot. If there was one thing the Fire Country shinobi had was dedication to his craft as he put in a lot of work, but he still had a long path to become equal to his leaders or Tomomi herself. But, he had the advantage of age as everything slows and depreciates over time which can result in careless mistakes or accidents. Even with Tomomi only being in her 30's, she could see her body slowing down compared to others from her home country and the energetic youth of this country.

Alas, the younger male would speak once more giving her some background of his life as he mentioned his mother went missing when he was younger and his dad was against him joining the forces. Once he finished, she would respond to him: "I know the loss of parents unfortunately. I lost my mother when she was delivering me so I never was able to talk to her or see her until I met her when I was older and she is now always with me. She is even with me now as we are talking." She would pause a moment as she looked in the distance and took a deep breath before she continued. When she continued, she looked Shin right in the eyes with a piercing stare: "As for my father, he is no longer here as I murdered him for years of abuse to my mother prior to my birth and abuse to me from when I was able to walk until I was able to get my independence. That is why I am the way I am, Shin, I had to survive since I was a child."

She would then turn again and look in the distance. There were no tears, no sorrow, and her body language was neutral. The past was the past and unfortunately, it had been a living Hell.

Shun didn’t rush to fill the silence after her story. His expression carried sympathy, but never slipped into pity - he sensed Tomomi wasn’t the sort who needed it. Instead, he walked quietly at her side, letting the rhythm of their footsteps and the weight of her words linger in the air. There was value, he thought, in not interrupting. In letting silence hold what words couldn’t.

When he finally spoke, his voice was quieter, steadier than before. “…There’s something else here you should see.”

The path he led her down curved behind the main training grounds, where the chatter of the Academy began to fade into a hush. The trees framed the way like a corridor, their leaves whispering faintly overhead. By the time the trail opened into a clearing, the shift in atmosphere was unmistakable.

At the center stood a tall, polished stone - its dark surface gleaming faintly where the sun caught on it, each row of carved names etched deep and deliberate. The Memorial Stone had a stillness about it, an unspoken gravity that seemed to quiet the world around it.

Shun stopped a few steps away, slipping his hands loosely into his pockets. “This is where they remember those who didn’t make it back,” he said softly. “Students. Teachers. Shinobi who started out just like I did. Anyone who fell in battle… or was presumed dead when the mission gave no answers.”

He drew a breath, his eyes scanning the countless names. “When I was younger, I used to come here after training. At first it scared me. It was just this cold reminder of how fragile everything is. How quickly it could all end.” His voice trailed off for a moment as he stepped closer, fingertips brushing over the grooves in the stone. “But over time, it… changed. It didn’t feel like fear anymore. More like a weight I could lean on. A reason to keep pushing forward.”

His hand stilled as he traced one name in particular. “Ashikawa Reijun,” he murmured, the words quiet but steady. “My mother.” He lingered on the letters for a heartbeat, his thumb brushing the indent as though the act itself could bridge the years of not knowing. “I’ve never been able to find out more - what kind of mission it was, where she was headed. Nothing.” His tone carried both frustration and longing, though kept carefully restrained.

Turning his head slightly, he caught Tomomi’s gaze with a faint, almost fragile smile. “But standing here made me want to keep moving forward. To not waste the chance they didn’t get.”

The clearing fell into stillness again, the quiet almost reverent. For a moment he let it stand, then exhaled softly. He'd never really shown anyone else her name on here before, let alone looking for it himself more than a few times. He only visited now when he needed a reminder to keep going. “It’s not part of the usual Academy tour,” he added, a wry tilt at the edge of his smile, “but… it’s the part that matters most to me.”

There was a silence between the two of them after the words left Tomomi's mouth and again when Shun opened himself up and spoke of his own mother. A monument dedicated to all of the shinobi of the Hidden Leaf in front of them that took the ultimate sacrifice on their missions after a quick traversal that was scenic to it. It was not unheard of to dedicate an area to the fallen from what the half-breed had seen in her travels, but it was a concept that was foreign to her home as death was a daily occurrence and having a mix of humans and demons with different values and upbringings made it difficult. A concept however that could possibly be brought back with Tomomi and instituted if she could gather the support that she needed.

She would nod at the young adult as he looked back at her, but would give him a moment to speak his thoughts as he explained that this was unsurprisingly not apart of the normal tour of the Academy and the relevance of it to him. When he finished speaking, she would respond to him short and direct: "I appreciate you showing me this and I am sorry for your loss, Shun. Are you going to try to gather more information from her final mission from your leaders when the time is right? I know that is easier said than done, but unless it was a secret mission, I would not see a reason to not give you some closure since you were not able to say it to her."

After she finished speaking, she would look away from the male and take a few steps toward the monument to admire the craftsmanship and read over the names of others that had fallen. It would be a nice change to her home if she could implement something similar.

Shun smiled a little at the thought of returning to his search for information. "It was so secretive, even my father couldn't accompany her. He was never allowed information either, and they served side by side for most of their shinobi years." A soft sigh escaped him as he thought over where to take her next. "I doubt I would be able to learn any more at this point. Not unless I get in good with the Hokage..."

Which, in a sense, he felt like he was, but he wasn't sure if Nao would appreciate his medical trainee attempting to overstep his position. Especially if Shun wanted to keep climbing the ranks the way he was. "Maybe someday, but likely not anytime soon. I haven't given up on it though." He still planned to venture out of Konoha someday in search for her, once he felt he had enough understanding of the world. He shook his head a bit to bring himself back to reality, glancing to his guest once more. "I could show you the classrooms, if you'd like, but they're pretty standard," he said with a small shrug. Then, after a moment of thought, his expression brightened just a little. "Actually… there is somewhere else worth seeing."

He nodded for her to follow as he stepped a little closer to the path. "The gardens. A lot of the medical trainees spend time there learning herbs and basic remedies. I used to help my mother in her garden all the time, so - " He paused, catching the sigh in his own voice before it fully formed, and corrected himself with a gentle smile. " - it’s always been one of my favorite spots."

His tone lightened, hopeful in that understated Shun way. "It’s peaceful. And it’s a part of the Academy most visitors don’t get to see, so… might be a nice change from the tour routes."

He gestured down a quieter walkway shaded by trees, waiting to see if she’d join him. "Otherwise, I'd say it's off to the libraries."

Listening to the boy's response to her question, Tomomi nodded as he explained that it was unlikely he would be able to get anymore information about the mission or his mother for the foreseeable future. It was understandable, but Tomomi could sense in the male that it was still hard on him to have to come to that understanding as he surely had a lot of questions and thoughts. Unfortunate circumstances to have to deal with especially at his age, but the halfbreed understand the feeling as she lost her mother at a young age and would have been in the same state of mind if she hadn't been able to come back as a spirit that was never away from Tomomi nowadays. Maybe if things continued to go well between the two, Tomomi would mention her mother in more detail to Shun but for now, it was best to keep it quiet until they were both more acquainted.

Her host would not take long to change his demeanor though as he gestured her to follow him down a walkway towards the gardens explaining it was a place used in the medicinal field and one of his favorite spots. She would smile at him and say: "That sounds like it would be good to see. Please lead the way, Shun." She knew he needed this to keep himself afloat and in a better headspace. It also would be helpful for the half-demon to observe this garden as it could open up opportunities for her to utilize in the future in her home country. If Shun wanted to show him things, she certainly couldn't say no as it was all helpful to know and see how the rest of the world worked and operated. It would all help her with making the changes needed back where she lived and possibly bringing new opportunities between the villages and countries she visited and her own.

The walk to the gardens was short, but quiet. Shun let the silence linger, using it to settle his thoughts. There was nothing left to chase for now, and he’d learned not to force motion where there was none. Waiting had become easier over time, eased by long hours in the gardens and the steady rhythm of medical training. When the path opened into the Academy gardens, Shun unconsciously slowed. The change in scenery loosened something in his shoulders. The distant hum of the Academy dulled here, replaced by the soft rustle of leaves and the faint, earthy scent of soil and crushed herbs.

He walked along the narrow paths between the beds, hands folding behind his back as he went. After a few steps, he spoke quietly, as if matching the calm around them. “A lot of people don’t realize how much time medical trainees spend out here.” His gaze stayed on the rows of plants rather than on her. “Chakra control matters, of course,” he continued, “but my mentors always said healing starts before chakra is ever used.” Shun slowed near a patch of low-growing plants and crouched slightly, fingers brushing the leaves without disturbing them. “Some herbs help stabilize patients before treatment,” he said. “Others slow poison, or keep wounds from worsening when chakra alone isn’t enough.” He straightened, a small, almost sheepish smile touching his mouth. “If you rely only on jutsu, you miss the warning signs. Plants don’t rush. They teach patience.”

He plucked a small cluster of white flowers and extended them toward her. “Yarrow. It’s simple, but reliable. Easy to grow in poor soil, doesn’t need much water, just sunlight.” Shun paused, then added, “Crush the flowers and leaves into a poultice, and it helps with quick external clotting.” As they moved deeper into the garden, Shun gestured toward a taller plant with stiff stalks and thistle-like blooms. “Rattlesnake master,” he said. “It’s a strong antidote for snake bites. Sometimes using chakra too fast actually makes things worse, so we learn how to prepare the body first.”

Near the center of the garden, Shun came to a stop. His gaze drifted across the greenery, unhurried. When he spoke again, his voice was softer, steadier. He looked back at Tomomi then, his expression warm but understated.
“If you ever wanted to learn, even casually, the gardens are open for observation. Knowledge like this travels well.” His mouth curved into a faint smile. “And I could spare some seeds from my own garden. If you tell me what kind of soil you have, I can help with compost ideas or plants that would thrive there.”

Their little adventure would continue as Shun would lead the way to the gardens that truthfully were quite short. But, a tour of every little bit of the village that he wanted to show no matter the distance was not a bad thing, correct? She would take in the scenery around them as they walked, allowing the male to gather his thoughts if he needed to or simply wanted a moment of silence between them as being a host to someone especially foreign to your village and its concepts had to be exhausting at the end of the day. When they arrived to the gardens, Tomomi would look around admiring and respecting the flowers, the herbs, and everything that was presented in front of her as Shun would begin to speak again to her.

His words were not completely incorrect as he explained his perspective on healing that he was brought up with being the reliance on plants over jutsu and chakra. It was admirable and honestly made sense as Tomomi felt similar, but she also knew that there were times that you had to prioritize a patient's livelihood over doing things by the book that you were used to doing - the same also could be true when you needed to eliminate someone swiftly without much evidence. It all depended on the situation and what was at one's disposal, but she wouldn't say anything as Shun likely knew the same and would agree with her. Besides, he was the one doing the tour and interjecting after each statement he said would be rude and possibly annoying after awhile.

Their tour would continue with him introducing her to Yarrow and a quick explanation of how to grow it and then use it for clotting to prevent bleeding. But the fun didn't end there as he would next show her a plant called rattlesnake master which sounded like something that would be found in Wind Country over Fire Country, but she was not one to judge as he explained its use to her as well. As they kept going, they would reach the center of the garden where the boy would stop before he would speak again to her, being the gentle nature male that she had come to know thus far in her journeys in the Hidden Leaf. When she allowed those last words to leave his mouth, she would then respond shortly after: "Would it be possible for you to provide me a summary or one of your books to use as reference as I continue my journey around the world before eventually returning to my home? I was not one that typically handled the medical side of things at home, but this is valuable information to have as I try to make home better for everyone. As for our soil, I am not sure as I never really thought about it honestly. I know we had our own kind of garden, but it was mainly to grow vegetables to then eat for everyone when we wanted some variety in our lives."

Shun was happy that his new acquaintance was seemingly having a good time. The gardens always brought him a sense of peace and stability, and this visit was no different. As they walked, he knelt beside a low-growing patch of herbs, carefully inspecting the leaves before harvesting a few newly bloomed buds. He brushed excess soil away with practiced fingers and tucked them into his bag, already mentally cataloging what remedies they might be useful for later. He listened as she spoke, nodding along, and when she offered an alternative to his original suggestion, he found himself smiling a little wider. It made sense. Not everyone was meant for the medical path - and even he, lately, had begun to quietly question where exactly he fit within it.

“I’d love to offer you one of the textbooks the academy recommended,” he admitted gently, straightening as he slung the bag back over his shoulder, “but I’m afraid I only ever borrowed what I needed from the library.” His expression didn’t falter, still warm and earnest. “That said… I do keep a personal journal.”

He tapped the side of his bag with a thoughtful hum. “I could make you a copy before you leave Konoha, if you’d like. It has my own notes - studies, remedy recipes, observations from the field. I tend to be pretty thorough,” he added with a sheepish chuckle. “But if I notice anything that feels lacking or might be useful for you, I’d be happy to add it in.”

Shun paused then, giving her space to respond, eyes flicking back toward the rows of greenery swaying softly in the breeze. When he spoke again, his tone was lighter, almost hopeful. “And if you’re interested, we could always visit the markets around town, too. Some of the vendors carry excellent herbal study books - not academy-issued, but practical. I could help you pick out a few good ones to take with you.”

He tilted his head slightly, already imagining the possibilities. Different lands meant different plants, different techniques - knowledge Konoha alone couldn’t provide. “I could even give you some pointers on what to keep an eye out for while you’re traveling,” he added. “Other villages have flora we don’t. I’ve always thought there’s a lot to learn out there.”

For a brief moment, his gaze drifted ahead, thoughtful rather than distant. Shun smiled to himself. He looked forward to his own travels someday, for that very reason.
