Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The sense of duty, pursuit of legacy, and selflessness pushed Dai to join Konoha's shinobi force. Despite spending most of his adult life as a Konoha shinobi, he had yet to feel like his time was invested in a meaningful way. What was his greater purpose? Where would he find it? Times were relatively peaceful, which lead to mediocre missions. Despite his very successful rate of completion, Dai did not feel challenged. He seldomly had the opportunity to limit test himself. If Konoha were to be invaded by a foreign nation, would Dai be powerful enough to assist in the resistance? Would he brave enough to face any enemy ninja?

These questions haunted him.

They also pushed him to the Hokage Mansion. He wasn't sure who he exactly needed to speak to. However, he knew one thing. If he were to discover whether or not he was capable of standing up to dangerous shinobi, he needed to look them in the eyes first. Doing so among foreign shinobi was probably not the best idea. However, there was a way he could do it which may benefit the village.

He wanted to do a job that was typically reserved for the ANBU. In order to do so, he needed special permission.

Dai was taller than the average citizen of the Fire Nation. He was often recognized because of his height. This lead to several members of the staff greeting him as he entered. The weight of the mission he was in pursuit of weighed on him. He wasn't his confident self. He was a bit nervous. He wasn't sure what he would do if his request was denied.

Eventually, Dai would make it to the receptionist and request a meeting with any member of the leadership available.

Asuka looked up as her receptionist came into the room. A plate of dango in front of her she gave a bright smile. "Keiko! So, how is the world of paperwork gonna screw me over this time?" She giggled, as she took another munch from her dangos.

"Actually.... we got a Jounin requesting your presence Lady Fifth." Keiko responded with a sigh. "I feel it's going to be different, giving you a heads up."

The Hokage's head perked up, well it wasn't going to be more paperwork but a non-scheduled meeting with a Jounin was indeed an interesting premise. It seemed as though today was looking up, taking a sip from her cup of tea she gave a smile. "Send him in then." She simply said, straightening out her Kimono.

As soon as the prospector came in she gave a warm smile, placing her arms on the table. "Well well." She said "I wasn't expecting a meeting with any Shinobi, let alone someone like you." She pointed towards the sit in front of her. "Please, take a sit. Feel free to take a dango stick or a cup of tea. Feel comfortable. So! What can I help you with?"

Dai was greeted into the Hokage's meeting row. Aside from being aside the occasional B-side mission briefing, Dai hadn't had the privilege to visit the Hokage mansion often. To be in the presence of the Hokage was an honor for Dai. It felt like yesterday he had heard of the term "Kage" as a boy in the Fire Nation. To be in the presence of one was something he could only dream of, not too long ago.

"Godaime Hokage-sama." said Dai as he entered the room and greeted her with a humble bow. His voice was generally deep, but pleasant. Currently, there was a clear serve of nervousness in his voice. He was a bit star-struck.

"I have come to you with a request... on behalf of myself and the village." he would say as he'd take a step closer, reluctant to sit down.

"I am merely a Jounin of the village. However, I was wondering if I could be assigned the mission.. the task... of hunting down our rogue ninja. "

Essentially, he was asking the Hokage for permission to leave Konohagakure, in order to hunt down ninja who had defected from the village. Those who do not fulfill their oath to Konohagakure are considered traitors of the village. They were often called nuke or rogue ninja. Hunting them down to prevent them from spreading Konoha's secrets was primarily the duty of the ANBU. However, Dai was hoping that the 5th Hokage would grant him permission to pursue this mission.

Asuka shook her hand as Dai bowed. She understood that the position had respect and most showed it yet she never really cared for it. "No need for the formalities." She spoke with a warm smile. "We're friends here. Asuka is fine."

As she heard him speak she leaned forward as, interested in the conversation. This was the first time someone came towards her with a request like this.

"A mere jounin you say." She spoke giving out a laugh "Getting to Jounin is hard enough, calling yourself mere is an insult so take pride in your acomplishment." She smiled "If I may be so bold. I find it hard to believe you want to go out into the world to haunt VERY dangerous Shinobi simply 'For the Village'. What's the real reason?"

Peaceful times lead to pleasant leaders being elected, or perhaps selected. Asuka was as pleasant as advertised. She dismissed formalities and greeted him as if he were the most important Jounin in Konohagakure. Dai needed to remind himself not to mistake her kindness for weakness. She was the Hokage, after all.

"Getting to Jounin is hard enough, calling yourself mere is an insult so take pride in your accomplishment." She smiled "If I may be so bold. I find it hard to believe you want to go out into the world to haunt VERY dangerous Shinobi simply 'For the Village'. What's the real reason?"

She was right, it took many years of hard work and discipline for Dai to reach this rank. He wasn't one of those naturally gifted shinobi which achieved great lengths at such a young age. Peaceful times allowed Dai to grow within the ranks at his own pace. The Hokage was an intelligent woman. She saw through the surface of Dai's request. There was obviously more to his request than what meets the eye.

"Hokage-sama.." Dai started before taking a moment to clear his throat. "Asuka-sama... You are correct. " Dai took a step backwards to think it through. "All I have ever known is this village and basic escort missions.. more or less. I wish to see the world while proving myself and benefiting the village... If you allow it."

His request was a bit selfish in nature. Nuke ninja hadn't posed a threat to Konoha in years. Yet, Dai still wanted to pursue this mission.

He ultimately wanted to write his own tale, similar to those in his novel...

Asuka took a sip from her tea as she listened. It had been in her nature to always listen and seriously consider each of her fellow leaf citizen's requests and problems. Hence the whole paperwork fiasco, but talking face to face was a nice change of pace. One of her policies as Hokage. Looking up at Dai she kept listening.

She understood where he was coming from, the hunger for adventure was strong with this one. That being said his request was not an easy one to give, the world was a dangerous place. Not a lot of people knew of the demons that lurked at every corner waiting to take advantage of unsuspecting souls. Well, she knew different.

"You're basically asking me to give you a death sentence." She said taking another sip from her tea "I'm not one who actively sends their shinobi to their deaths. Don't get me wrong, I don't underestimate your abilities or think of you as weak. Nothing like that. I just want to make sure you understand what you're asking of me. You're going to actively be hunting down missing-nin who may be working in groups. You're actively gonna be challenging death and at one point it's going to catch up. Are you ready to die?" She spoke, seriousness in her face.

There were a few things Dai made sure to prepare for, over the last few weeks as he braced himself for this meeting. Firstly, he needed to prepare himself for the probability of the Hokage denying his request. Secondly, he attempted to prepare for this meeting by playing potential scenarios in his head of what she might say. Although Dai understood the weight of what he was asking, he suddenly found himself having a too optimistic outlook of the outcome of his mission.

The Hokage's immediate response was insinuating that Dai's request would surely lead to his death. Thoughts of doubt began to creep into his mind. Although he had no reason to doubt himself, based on his performance in missions among his peers, he was heading into unknown territory. Perhaps an area where the Hokage had expertise in, which Dai was not aware of. Unlike most shinobi which start their careers as young boys in the academy, Dai was trained in the outskirts of the village by the Nakata clan. In fact, he was never meant to actually become a shinobi. His desire to become one was defiant of his clan's wishes for him.

The day Dai showed up to the gates was the day he was ready to give up his previous life, in service of Konoha. However, was that the day he also prepared for a certainty of death in combat? Dai could not think back that far. He was uncertain of how he felt about death as a teenager. However, he needed to face the reality of what happens when you leave the safety of the village gates.

The Hokage's tone indicated that his request had not yet been denied. There was potential to negotiate with her; no- convince her. Perhaps the task of hunting down missing ninja was impossible. Perhaps they were too skilled, too ruthless, or too organized. There were infinite possibilities of why Dai's mission would fail. However, it had been long since Dai had seen ANBU travel outside the village in groups. It had also been long since he had seen any dangerous shinobi in the cells of the Konoha prison. Unless the ANBU kept secrets that even a Jounin would not hear whispers of, someone needed to address the issue of unaccounted for former shinobi. If they were to invade Konoha, would the village be prepared? Was there even a talent gap between the nuke ninja and the Konoha forces? Did Konoha need to do things to better prepare?

"Hokage-sama. You bring up some great points." Dai started, once again choosing to address her by her respected title. "I want to start by assuring you that I am not throwing my life away, nor do I have any intentions of ever doing so. However, not pursuing this mission may be more detrimental to myself in the long run." Dai paused for a moment, taking a few steps to look towards the window. "While you may not doubt your own Jounin, the seed of doubt has crept into my mind and continued to grow over the years."

Dai was like a caged lion, getting too complacent within the walls of the Hidden Village.

"I may not capture any rogue ninja. I will not intentionally put myself in a situation I cannot escape from." Dai started as he turned towards her, with a look of determination in his eyes.

"However, I will at the very least return to Konoha with information valuable to you and our allies. I will return as a Jounin without doubt in his own abilities."

For a shinobi who cannot afford any mistakes, required to perform at a high level, doubt was a debilitating emotion. If Dai's hindering doubt was truly a product of his complacency within the village walls, then the only way to address was to get on the road.

In this moment, the caged lion accepted the probability of death, but did not fear it. He was ready.

"Asuka-sama, please approve this mission." Dai finished, with a look of confidence and determination in his eyes.

Asuka smiled as she listened to Dai speak. She didn't know if he avoided her question by accident or on purpose.

There was no point in dueling with it now. "The seed of doubt is something that you can't have from what you're asking of me." She spoke with a sigh. "Look, the simple idea of doubting yourself can cause you to make mistakes in the field and THAT gets you killed."

"Look, forget about the whole "for the village" mentality because frankly the village at the moment doesn't have a need for a missing hunter, heck I would be personally more comfortable with sending a mercenary other than one of my own shinobi." She sighed "But I am against impeding ones growth even more, I'm just want to make sure that you understand that you're running head first into the lion's den with a probability of not coming out. I want you to understand that death may come to you."
