Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

A letter had been sent out by the Academy, an instructor issued the notification, to Honma Kotone and Samejima Naoki. Whatever their address may be, these letters would arrive to those designated. If opened, the letter would read:
You are to gather at the Grand Palais, under the Broken Moon.

A rather ominous and vague invitation, something that felt a little awkward. The little poppet held the piece of crisp white in her hand, rubbing her eyes as she dragged her feet - blanketed in furry slippers - and moved through her tiny accommodation, designed for one, and into her bed; throwing back the covers and face planting against the week-old sheets. It was silly o'clock and she did not feel the urge to do anything other than rest her eyes, the birds hadn't even started singing their songs - they wouldn't anyway, considering the city was settled beneath rock and sand. Kotone kicked the blanket, quite impressively, enabling it to land on, most, of her night gown body. "You won't let me go, fluffy." Kotone spoke to her bed with affection, a muffled voice from the overly soft pillow. But, as one would expect, slumber took over and the young poppet fell back asleep.

The sound of an alarm began to ululate through the room, its constant buzz became quite unsettling and fracturing to those who were unfortunate to hear it. Kotone gave the little black box with red highlights a death stare before pushing it off the bedside table, satisfied at its immediate dismissal of any sounds. However, the realisation that this little poppet had to get ready for her first Academy mission loomed over her restful little head. With her head planted into the pillow, she groaned like a hungry lion cub, before sliding out from her fort of comfort and away to the bathroom; so the day would begin. The young poppet would do her daily routine, and dress herself before heading to the front door - keys would jingle before the door unlocked, and opened, releasing a burst of 'fresh' air.

Sometime after her morning routine, Kotone moved to the Grand Palais; the place where most crime took place, to be fair. The dirty and unpleasant streets housed some of the worst type of people in Sand, at least that's what the village would have you believe. The Palais housed the poorest, the vulnerable, not the evil. However, those who were corrupt did often manipulate the vulnerable to do their bidding, or most commonly to join gangs. She would await under the Broken Moon, a busted down, dilapidated pub; typical. She folded her arms and awaited for something to happen.

Having received a letter while she was training at the Academy, and gotten the courier to read it aloud for her, Naoki began making her way to the Grand Palais, figuring she should check this letter before she went for her daily patrol. Hmm... The... Broken Moon? She did remember passing by it a few times during patrols, though there wasn't much to go on in terms of any remarkable traits, it was a run down pub like many of the others.

The surrounding noise was enough for her to gather the fact that there was another girl who also seemed to be waiting there. Is that a... girl? Why's she waiting there, it might be dangerous... The genin approached, village headband glinting on the bridge of her nose covering her eyes and dressed in a simple loose dark blue shirt and a matching pair of knee-length shorts. Black support sandals making minimal noise as she moved, Naoki waved as she approached, trying to catch the other girl's attention. "Hi... Um. Are you waiting for someone... here...?"

Naoki trailed off, realizing something a she got closer to the mystery girl. She set off a series of finger snaps, explaining its necessity ("Oh, I do this to get around, helps me sense things...") if asked. She seems... Snap, snap. Familiar... Snap. Hmm...

Kotone looked at the new arrival, smiled, and clasped her hands as she bowed. The poppet looked at the headband, a sign of superiority in comparison to her own student status. "I am Honma Kotone," she remained in a bow, not moving until released from her stance, "I think I'm here to learn from you, nee-san." The other girl, whatever her name was, would have superiority over the younger girl, whom was just a student and would need guidance. Kotone was capable, her mother made sure of that, and most importantly she was respectful to those who earned it. When the other girl spoke to her, in acknowledgement, Kotone would release her bow and eye up her more - not in a creepy way though. "Although," she spoke with clasped hands, her wooden sandals lifting off from the ground and she took a few steps forward with observant eyes, "I'm not really sure what we're doing here... Do you?"

The poppet would look to the broken down pub, eyes shifting from shattered window pane to bordered up fixtures that hung out from their home. It was a peculiar request to say the least. Kotone would want to enter the Broken Moon, maybe there was something inside for them to find. She would kneel down, press her index finger against the cobbled stone and attempt to sense any presence within the drab establishment. She waited a few moments, her chakra pulsating through her body, like some sort of sonar but came up with nothing. Kotone knew that most people could perform some degree of sensory perception if they put their mind to it, but if you weren't naturally gifted at the art then your chances of successfully coming across anything were quite slim.

"It looks fine, nee-san." Kotone would remain knelled down, looking over to her superior with a confident and friendly smile. Something definitely felt familiar about this other girl, it was her face...

Ehh?! Nee-san- What- But I- Incoherent thoughts were the only things that ran through her head for a time, arms gesturing randomly as she attempted to wrap her head around what just happened. "N-n-nee-san, me? I'm not that much older than you are, s-so please raise your head!" Once she did, Naoki would visibly be more at ease, not used to being treated as a superior in any way. "I'm Samejima Naoki, just call me Naoki... We can't be too far apart in age ahaha..." Despite this though, she did quite like being called 'nee-san' and wouldn't protest much if that persisted.

At the end of her introduction, she quickly bowed in greeting as well. "Nice to meet you, Kotone!" A grin then spread across her face, hoping to put the one she perceived as a slightly younger girl at ease.

Once Kotone said she didn't know their purpose here either, Naoki would nod before retrieving the letter she'd taken from the courier, holding it up for a bit. I can't read this letter's exact contents or see what's on it... Should I ask Kotone to?

Said girl would then kneel down and put an index finger on some of the stone. What's she doing...? Naoki would tilt her head a little, before Kotone informed her that it seemed fine. "Ah, thank you... Do you think we should go inside?" She's pretty cool... I don't even know what she was doing just now...

"It is rude to not show respect to those who are superior, Naoki-neesan." Kotone would nod towards the girl, turning head head back to the face the pub. It's true that they probably weren't far apart in age, even if they were, it would maybe only be by a year or two but that didn't matter to the young poppet. "It is to meet you though, I haven't had the chance to meet anyone else since I came to the village two years ago... Mother always told me to try and meet people, but I just felt too shy to." She would admit before stepping forward, moving towards the broken archway and pressing her body through the invisible black veil that acted as a door to the Broken Mood. The inside of the Broken Moon, the lobby area that consisted of a large, open area and a long forgotten bar, felt largely discomforting.

The old building creaked and shook with movement. Kotone stepped back, presuming that Naoki had already entered behind her, standing beside her superior. She was a little frightened, the noise felt unnatural, almost like feet patting against old floorboards. "Maybe we should just go?" She turned to Naoki with an uncomfortable expression, her eyes looked uneasy and panicked. She tugged on her yellow tinted, tribal trimmed dress as the air felt heavy. The young poppet motioned to turn, shifting her weight appropriately and looking at what once was... The door, the archway, it had been sealed up with brick - how was that even possible? "I don't like this, Naoki-neesan."

The shuffling upstairs grew ever more vigorous, a voice or two could be heard, which would alert the two youngsters.

Su... superior?! Uuu... I don't know how I feel about that... It was oddly empowering, being referred to as superior, even though she didn't feel like she was. Naoki would lightly scratch her cheek in embarrassment, conceding to the way Kotone would be addressing her with a little "eheh..."

Naoki followed Kotone into the building carefully, keeping her senses sharp. When Kotone stepped back, asking if they should retreat, Naoki shook her head, fueled by something akin to the bravado young children showed when they were elected to be the leader of an expedition into the woods. And... It doesn't look like we'd be able to anyway... The creaking of the floorboards when Kotone moved alerted Naoki to the fact that their entry point was now blocked up, and did not allow them to exit... At least not easily.

In hushed tones, "It's okay Kotone, as long as we stay quiet... You're a student yes?" she asked, remembering how she said she might have been here to learn something from Naoki. "Please stick close to me, we're heading inside. Whoever sent that letter wanted me to meet you here I think, so we should just get this over with before trying to leave..." Since we're already here anyway...

Once Naoki regained her senses though after any prolonged periods of silence... She would begin to feel the chills.

It felt comforting to have Naoki by her side, things didn't feel as bad as they actually were. The wall had closed up, without a sound, which indicated that their senses were dulled by something or, more accurately, someone. "I don't think they wanted us to meet for a good reason, Naoki-neesan." Kotone clasped her hand around her team mate's forearm, unwilling to shed the fear that penetrated her belly - after all, she was only a child with her own fears and illusions of how good the world was. But before they could continue on further, there was an incredible force of gravity, or something similar, that split the two bodies apart - throwing Kotone to the far right, her frail body slamming into the ground, rolling to a stop against the ruined wall. The clasp that held her forward pony-tail came undone, and the young girl looked almost feral with confusion, her body attempting to return to its feet.

"This is gen-" Kotone called out to her companion before a hand constructed purely of shadows reached out and sealed her mouth shut. Muffled screams came from the young poppet as she, now, lay bound onto the floor with constraints made out of shadows; her face planted against the floorboard as the pressure on her body increased. Kotone couldn't tell Naoki what she thought, that this situation was a fabrication of genjutsu, but nothing simple - something complex and powerful. Naoki wasn't pushed against the wall, no, she was left to stand stationary and watch as the young poppet struggled to breathe. Naoki would find that, even if she tried to help Kotone, there was some type of barrier that prevented her from reaching the bound girl. "She's got about 4 minutes before the first bone breaks." A voice would beckon out from behind the bar, and after a few seconds, a figure would fabricate into Naoki's field of vision.

"What are you gon' to do, lil chick?" THe figure that appeared was, too, made out of shadows.

"Kotone!"

No way... I didn't even hear anything coming! How's that... Before she had a chance to react, Kotone had been flung towards the now-sealed exit and was being suffocated! Naoki turned towards the entrance to try and sense things better, even if just slightly, now in a reflexive defensive stance. Kotone! ...Gen? Like the string? Or someone named Gen maybe? But I don't know anyone like... Then the voice was heard, from behind the bar. Four minutes? That voice...

Naoki didn't turn towards the voice like the rookie she was a few weeks ago, she kept her stance up ready to deflect things, but she was formulating a plan to try and free the young girl from whatever was suffocating her.

Four minutes... Jutsu... What can I use to hit something behind me...

She recalled the Lightning jutsu she'd learned quite some time ago, which she could now control rather well, generating several lightning bolts she was able to control with precision. She directed the bolts forwards at first, hoping to make whatever was attacking them think she had no idea where to attack at the moment but at the immediate threat, before stopping them short and suddenly sending them backwards to strike the back of the bar, where Naoki had heard the voice first.

If this succeeded to any extent, such as forcing a certain figure to come out of hiding... Now! Naoki would unleash a string of claps fortified by Sound chakra at the bar, which would not only possibly graze the assailant, it would help her locate where the voice's source was headed.

Naoki unleashed a volley of electrical volts towards the place where she heard the voice originate from. The bolts of lightning would pass right through the construct, and hit the bar, causing glass to fracture and split - sending shrapnel of clarity in all directions. The wood, that made the body of the bar, exploded with a furious roar and scattered into the air for a brief moment. The construct, who was around the size of about 6ft, raised its hands in disappointment as if to say, 'was that it?'. Kotone struggled to break free of the construct's binding, instead attempting to focus all of her chakra into loosening its grasp by using a technique, anything really. As the shadow construct turned its attention to Naoki, the grasp upon the young poppet loosened - this enabled her to slip a hand free, but she was running out of breath. Kotone's face began to turn blue due to the lack of oxygen. The sound of Naoki's attack didn't effect the creature, which indicated that it wasn't phased by sound.

The young poppet slipped her free hand under her dress, towards her right upper thigh, coiled her tiny fingers around a sheathed kunai. With not much room to move, she pressed the tip of the blade against her thigh. Although it wasn't long before her conciousness began to slip, the darkness was taking over. With the last ounce of her strength, Kotone plunged the blade into her thigh and in a moment's notice, her body vanished from the room.

Naoki would notice the disappearance, quite obviously, but it may distract her. The construct darted from it's spot over to Naoki, raising its hand - forming a curbed sabre in its hands - rocketing the shadow blade downwards in the hopes to cut the girl in half.

Wh! Naoki couldn't sense anything having left the bar, but Kotone was still bound... Whatever was doing this was either intangible to sound, or...

Unfortunately, Naoki's lack of knowledge regarding genjutsu is a major setback in this particular setting. She kept trying, hoping to find whatever it was that was attacking them by making as much noise as she could. Then suddenly, Kotone...?

The girl had disappeared, for some reason, after the sound that resulted from the last few attacks revealed her to have stabbed herself in the thigh. She had no idea what was going on, but if Kotone disappeared from that spot, then maybe there was some way out hidden over there? Naoki dashed over, hopefully also dodging the slash directed at her from the construct which she could not sense due to it being intangible, at least as far as she could tell. Rrgh, will I have to stab myself too...? she took out her battle knife, and while attempting to stab herself in the arm, ended up merely cutting a small gash open.

What's with this place...!

Outside of the world of illusion, two young poppets sat on chairs, bound by rope and malicious intent. Kotone, whose mother was well versed with genjutsu, had shown the young girl how to escape it. Indeed, she was bound to a chair, but their captors - who placed them in a dimly lit room - didn't anticipate how craft, or rather how small, Kotone's arms were. The kunai that was strapped against her thigh, that was real, and the pain she felt as she struggled to pierce it into her body; that was real.

However, the young shinobi didn't wake up in a notable rage, she kept quiet and closed her eyes. The blood trickled down her thigh and onto the floor, but nobody was insight - she remained still and steady just incase anyone watched from the shadows cast by the monitoring light that stood above both girls. Kotone knew, with closed eyes, began to cut away at the rope that bound her and after a dubious length of time - it was done. "I'm sorry, neesan." She would say before throttling the kunai into Same's upper right thigh.

The pain would naturally dispel the illusion, and bring her back to the real world, that's for sure. But footsteps were approaching... What were they going to do? But of course, there was time for the young poppet to cut Same free, but what could they do as a pair against a person, or persons, who had captured them in the first place, eh?

Naoki jerked back into awareness with a gasp and sharp pain in her right thigh and arm, with only a sort of numbness in the "wound" on that forearm. The first thing she did was check the immediate area for any sounds, and upon hearing another heartbeat, which was beating about as fast as hers was, she ascertained that it was Kotone who was sitting next to her. Her voice hadn't returned to her after the realization that she was suddenly tied to a chair instead of somewhere outside after she hurt herself to disappear from the entrance, and that stopped her from immediately calling out to the other girl.

Are those... footsteps outside? It was impossible to tell whether there was one person or more at that point, but she knew that there was someone outside. A few more steps passed, and she connected that information to the fact that that whoever was outside must have captured them. Either that or they were in the midst of being rescued... But no one should even know that the two were here in the first place. I thought my battle knife was... Wasn't I holding it? Something like this happened... some time ago-

Naoki then recalled the incident with her suddenly holding her kokyuu, back in that first training session with Yoko-nee. Genjutsu! That was a genjutsu? Then I didn't get cut in my arm right? The throbbing in her thigh was still present, and this would confuse her for some time. But first things first.

"Kotone," she whispered, trying not to alert the people outside to their consciousness. Still in hushed tones, she asked, "Are you okay?" barely even knowing if she herself was okay. The sound she produced from whispering allowed her to sense, at least, that no one was in the immediate vicinity, giving her about the same amount of "visibility" as a small candle.

"Neesan..." Kotone said with a gruff voice, she raised her hand and pressed it against her forehead. There was some kind of backlash from escaping the genjutsu that left Kotone with an uneasy, almost disorientated discomfort. But was could she do now, they both were a sticky situation that spelt out disaster whatever way you looked at the situation. "Where are we?" The young poppet moved around impatiently, while off in the distance the sound of footsteps drew closer to the young girls. However, the two girls had a chance to escape from whoever brought them down into this damp, unhappy cellar underpinned with novelty expected in such a cliche environment.

From behind the girls, there was a small creases hidden behind a few wooden crates that would be noticeable to one with the level headed ness required to analyse the situation; Naoki. There was a very faint sound of foot steps from above ground, which very much implied that the two girls were still in the busy distract and not far from their original location. "We need to get out of her... I can't really walk because of my leg..." Kotone said as a few tears strolled down her face, opening up the obviousness that she still but a child. There had to be a way out of this situation safely, and the only forseeable escape option was that vent over by the crates. Only time would tell whether the two poppets would be captured or killed. Who knows?

(Mft)

Naoki had to think quickly, or they'd both be sunken further into trouble. Though Kotone seemed to have sustained a more debilitating injury than she has, it wasn't as easy to run as it was before for Naoki either, and she would have to either find someplace to hide or find some way for them both to leave without using their legs too much. The wet feeling of blood wasn't exactly helping her stay calm. Knowing she needed to ignore that for now and get out before anyone outside got in, Naoki steeled herself and got up, favoring her left leg (though not to the degree of limping loudly) and pressing the fabric of her shorts onto the wound to try and stop the bleeding. Of all the days I chose to leave my bag behind...

The first snap of her fingers, hopefully not loud enough to alert those outside, would tell her exactly how the room was laid out, crates and such coming into "view" quite easily. She half-limped her way over there, sensing a space between the crates and the wall, and snapped again while opening the crates to check if they had any space so Kotone could hide in one while she recovered and Naoki checked the vent to make sure it was a way out instead of a dead end or a loop... or a trap. She would serve as a distraction as well for their captors, since the genin could create a clone and transform into Kotone afterwards to complete the illusion... It all hinged on whether or not those senses were fooled by Naoki's mediocre skill in both these jutsu, as well as on whether or not any crates even opened.

Naoki herself stayed quiet but for the snapping of the fingers, hopefully not distressing the other girl further by the lack of talk.

[Topic Left - Sorry, I've been so caught up with coursework that I just had to focus on that. I need to get my motivation back, so I'm really sorry for having to leave!]
