The young teenager sat quietly on the edge of the docks, watching as ships bobbed gently in the waves of the harbour. The port was a roaring caucus of momentum, with large men rushing about here and there, loading ships, tying others down, and completing the other various tasks sailors did in port.
Kato quietly listened to groups of them chatting. He had found over the last few years that one of the best ways to gather new information about the state of the world, was to listen to the stories told by sailors. This was how he heard of the eventual downfall of his once proud homeland. It was also where he had heard that a family of former Leaf Shinobi had persuaded the captain of a ship to ferry them to the Lightning Country. As with any news of the Leaf, Kato had been intrigued by what he heard, and when listening a little closer, had come to the conclusion that it must have been his aunt and cousin.
But now that he was here in the Lightning Country, he had yet to pick the trail back up. He didn't know sailors well, but from what he had gathered so far, they all would have taken keen notice of the full bodied Akimichi women he was looking for. Sadly, nothing he heard sounded like it mentioned them. Mostly the sailors compared stories about a small pirate ship which many of them had encountered. Evidently, a handful of former shinobi, presumably more who fled the Leaf during its demise, had banded together to create a bandit gang who patrolled the trade routes between villages. "So much for honor," Kato thought to himself.
Looking in his bag at his own supplies, Kato realized he wasn't exactly in a position to judge the morals of others. It had been several days since he had caught something to eat, and his wallet was feeling awfully light. At the moment he had nothing of value left to trade, and his stomach rumbled eith anger, getting more and more angry at being neglected for so long. All he had left now was a few breadcrumbs, a couple kunai, and his father's leaf headband, which the boy had saved from the Akimichi clan house before fleeing the country.
Maybe he should look around this village... see if he could find some work.
