Riku led his friend through the streets of the oak district, pushing through people like he did almost every day, every so often glancing behind himself to make sure he wasn’t leaving Kiramaru behind. The streets were always packed now, which helped comfort the nerve that they may be followed.
“We’re almost there,” Riku assured his friend, trying to point through the crowd, “It’s between those buildings.”
Once they reached the alley between the buildings, Riku was comforted to see the crates he’d left here had remained so. He walked over to one of the wooden boxes and sat down with a sigh. He then kicked one of the crates towards Kiramaru and gestured to sit.
“Well, that was humiliating.” Riku said with a smile, his hands shuffling his cards, “We should show them we aren’t just kids.”
He gave a grin, looking towards Kiramaru before sliding a spare wooden crate down in between them, deciding to use it as a table. He then grabbed a few of the cards from his deck, it was time to set up a plan.
“We need to set up a symbol, even if it’s out of sight,” Riku said, placing down a card face-up, “The king, the big goal.”
Riku then placed down three facedown cards, running his hand over them all with a smile.
“They said we don’t belong in the forest. So I say the symbol should be in the jungle itself. A treehouse,” Riku gave a wide smile, his hand tapping the cards, “Might seem tough, but it’s pretty simple once we get the basics down.”
His hand flipped over the next card, it was an ace of spades.
“First, we need the tools. Saws, rope … lots of rope, nails and any gear you want to bring. This is the stuff that we’re protecting, we lose our ace, we aren’t going to pull a king.”
Riku then reached over and flipped over the next card, it was a queen.
“This is probably the easiest part. Our ace, we can’t risk exposing. The queen pieces … we need them, but it’s expendable. In this case though, the pieces we need are right in the forest. Wood, lots and lots of wood.” Riku gave a wide smile at that one, his hand moving onto the next.
Riku’s hand went to the last card, flipping it over to reveal a crude joker card.
“And the decoy part. When we move the ace to the forest, one of us runs diversion. Draw any attention away from the other till they can get into the forest.”
Riku then nodded to Kiramaru, a smile on his face as he flicked the cards between his fingers.
“That’s the plan,” Riku said, “What do you think? Ready to prove them wrong?”
