It began as most fights do: with people preparing themselves. In his case, Maki seems to shift between realities, his outline becoming hazy. A subtle thing, but a powerful technique nonetheless. He pulls free his blood red katana and takes up a stance. No guard, merely aiming to deliver as many blows as he can. In truth he did not want to hurt Mikasa. He wanted to end this foolishness. He wanted Konoha to stop hemorrhaging shinobi. He wanted a lot of things. He shifts slightly, his step springier and his defenses falling even more.
For her part, Mikasa summoned a sandstorm, which led Maki to curse. He didn’t even notice the next attack, something that simply slipped around him. Instead, a storm rose overhead, and his right eye opens. Inside was something not pretty at all. Blood begins to drip from the corners of the sickly looking orb inside there. A Byakugan, torn from the corpse of his allies mother. It was not attached the way most were, however, which had led to some degredation as it tried to rot and his own life force tried to stop it.
He rushes at what he thinks is Mikasa with a short flurry of blows only to find his target has disappeared. And then something hits him. It didn’t hurt much. It did, however, do something. Maki freezes, staring at the sand all around him. His right eye throbbed from the byakugan’s power. The skeletal limb on his left arm was a constant pain as the necrotic process fought against his own chakra to try and complete its natural course of decomposition. He was fighting.
Maki drops to his knees with a scream. He was fighting. His free hand begins to pound at the ground. He was fighting a member of Konoha. With that sudden reality hitting him everything goes black.
Would you like some tea?
That bitch was there, the Frost woman who took his life from him. Who took his power. His mind.
Would you like some tea?
His eye and arm burned even more now. He was shaking in fear. A feeling he was abhorrent of, and yet he also needed. Maki clung to it, riding the waves of terror.
Would you like some tea?
”I don’t want any of your fucking tea!
He rises once more, his eye darting around madly as he began panting deeply. There was a wild look to him now. His face twisted in a mix of fear, rage, and chaos.
”Who the fuck thinks I need tea?! I’ll fucking you show you tea!”
