Failure. Failure. Failure. And you... you asshole! Of all the times to grow quiet! Ever since our training in the Ruins, you've been, what, moody? depressed? Are you mad at me?!
Letting out a sigh he would remember his own conflicts when it came to the inner voice.
Unless you are me and now I am not only ignoring myself but getting upset at myself for ignoring myself.
Just then a man would appear with a weird device, causing him to almost jump out of his seat.
"How did you do that?! So quiet... maybe you should be the games," he would grumble to himself as he took the wrist device, loosely listening to the explanation and putting it on. After applying it he would turn back to the person who had delivered to say,
"So do I do anything to turn it on--" but the figure was already gone.
"Seriously, like a ninja..."
That would be when his drink order would get canceled and reordered as alcohol.
Is that allowed? Am I allowed????
He would then turn to thank the person, noticing they were a female. Typically, boys his age would more likely than not be agitated by hormones and a response to the opposite sex, but he wasn't sure he was feeling that sensation.
Would I even know? Probably, right?
Instead, his emotions would fixate on the utterance of the word "friend". He hadn't fully mastered sarcasm or hyperbole, so if she was using it in almost any other way than the exact words she used, he was going to misread it. For him, she had just now opened a door for him to chase after something he had set as one of his top goals since joining the village; friendship.
"Roku!"
As proudly as he could say his name, is as proud the expression upon his face would be. Though he was about to correct Kohana on her incorrect labeling of him, as he was clearly taller than her, but before he could the drinks would appear.
Kohana would take her drink, make short work of it, and quickly slam the now empty tiny glass back upon the table. It was impressive, right? He wasn't entirely sure but he assumed it was a custom that Sousuke had not taught him yet, so he would mimic it. Taking the drink, quickly inhaling it, and slamming the tiny glass upon the table, he would have perfectly replicated the motions of Kohana. The only difference, the expression on his face wouldn't be as nearly composed. Instead, his cheeks would be flush as his mouth would rip open and his tongue would dance in the air.
"Poison?!"
Before his meltdown could go any further, he would pause and take a moment to compose himself. After all, his new friend had just asked him a question that he knew from the textbooks was part of the ritual of forming social bonds; she wanted to know more about him.
"Well, I was born in the desert, grew up in a group called Community, was tested a whole bunch, met some weird guy, started talking to myself, was taken in by Takahashi Sousuke, have been preparing to enter the village properly, and decided to become a Sennin... what about you?"
That, while missing a ton of context, would be a rather linear path of some of his major life milestones. There would only be one glaring omission. His brain would notice it but it wasn't necessarily clear what it was, but he knew there was something he was missing.
"There is one more thing... what was it... something about me... hmmmm"
While he had already passed the question back to Kohana, it would seem that he would become a bit jammed up trying to remember. Why was it so important? Well not simply because we all understand the frustration of knowing we know something but just can't recall it, but it was also that he did not want to feel like he omitted information from his response to his new friend. It was important for this first round of friendship to be perfect... he was told he only gets one opportunity to make an impression.
