They summarily defeated Avaron, the one that put the bruised and bloodied former Cabalist in his presently debilitated state. Kaito was on the floor, his back against the wall. Barely able to stand, let alone fight he watched as the tide of battled turned against the Soverign bitch with a sense of glee. t was so rare in this world anyone ever got what they deserved. He knew of her but he did not know her well enough to claim an understanding of her powerset but what she did just then in this fight seemed contradictory to how she subdued the former treasure hunter in that dark ally. She became a brawler instead of a caster, he found it queer that she had such a range of skills. Little did he know, she was a different kind of Chimera. Little did he know, she sought the Daimyo and Nao to become more powerful.
"Well fought. In recognition of the battle we fought together, I cede half of the bounty to you. Take one, the other is mine by right of conquest."
It would seem that he was a 'prize' yet somehow it did not give him a warm, fuzzy sensation. Rather, he got a heavy feeling in his gut, as if a fistful of lead lay in belly. He did not want to go with either of them, if he was being taken he was not being assisted or saved. It should not be a surprise to him, he was likely one of the most hated men in this village two years ago. Still, they were no better than he was. He considered this village to be full of devils and monsters and thus far he was not proven wrong.
"I appreciate getting first dibs, and will be taking Avaron. As repayment for your courtesy allow me to give you a token of appreciation."
Tenken approached his championship purse and wrapped his fingers around Avaron's neck. Was he really going to snuff her life out right then and there? It seemed like a waste to him. She was not a small woman, not in comparison to either of these men but his hand was able to compress her carotids and her airway, Kaito was not about to protest but the act spoke volumes of the Sennin's character. Her raspy breaths would cease momentarily.
"Not sure if you heard our discussion in the tower before you appeared, but the Daimyo is using Ancients to fuel his army."
A wheeze would emanate from Avaron's mouth as the ANBU's grip loosened. She was not dead yet, but she likely soon would be. Some liked to demonstrate their dominance, it gave them a sense of power and authority. He was familiar with the sense, some of his men (and women) felt the same way - this sense of authority and release when they made others suffer. Still, to the victor not only goes the spoils but how the war and the aftermath would be recorded and remembered by those who follow. Still, he raised a brow at the Sennin's curious statement. He did not know anything about Ancients or the army the leader was trying to raise. He was aware that he had a personal militia, but a militia is a far-cry from an army and if that was the case then why sent his team into Sunagakure. To this day, he was unaware that he and his men were merely a test and that the Diamyo had no intention of seeing them succeed. Their relative successes only spoke volumes regarding how complacent the shinobi of Wind Country had become perhaps due partly to their years of isolation.
"I know where they are being kept. I tell you this out of a sign of gratitude but also as a token of selfishness."
"Where," a barely audible voice coughed. He wanted to know, but he was not a part of this discussion or perhaps he querry went unheard as the Sennin flung the unmoving body of the Soverign over his shoulder. She would be heavier than expected. Unlike most women with their slender and slight forms, she was more...
durable? Muscular perhaps? It might have been her proximity to the reckless Sennin that made her as such, if that was true or not however, he would never be able to quantify that on his own. She did not look like she would weigh close to two-hundred pounds, but she did weigh as much. It was not in the form of lard or due to a plethora of supplies, she seemed to travel light but what little she had on her moving person would rattle as Tenken started to walk away.
"I would like your assistance in addressing that matter... if you are interested in taking one last mission with a former employee, well I am sure you'll be able to find me."
A final word of departure. Tenken would leave with his 'prize.'
"And then there were two."
An ominous voice would announce.
"Know that I have not forgotten what you did to me. I have not forgotten and I will never forgive it. But that aside, you may also know that I am well known for my giving nature."
He did not want anything the Deep Court Lord might give.
"And so now that you and I have this precious moment for a heart to heart talk, I want to give you a gift that I have held for you for so long."
Mikaboshi meandered closer to the former leader of the Cabal as if he had all of the time in the world. The scrape of his feet near deafening as Kaito waited in silent anticipation. He was going to die today, that much he was certain.
"I am pleased that you were here to bear witness to this little show we put on today as it gives you a grasp of what I am capable of even if it is only the barest tip of the iceburg."
Kaito was well aware of the Sennin's capabilities, he was a target of great concern during their incursion. His records were a mixture of lore, happenstance, witness testimony and speculative circumstance but it exceeded the documentation they had on the others seven-fold. He knew that the Deep Court Lord had an affinity for the darkness, about the chilled aura that emanated from him and heralded his presence. The very same that chilled him to the bone now and caused the air from his agape maw to leave his body in small puffs of vapor. The shadows seemed livelier in his presence, as if they had a mind of their own because he like the other ancients was truly life giving to something they considered inert. Never twice has a fight been the same, at least the recorded testament of such an event. That was why they locked him away, he was a volatile and unpredictable variable.
"I'm glad you got to see this today because my gift to you... is fear."
Kaito looked up at Mikaboshi, barely able to turn his head.
"I am not afraid to die," a whisper soft voice replied. He had resigned himself to some sort of terrible fate moment Avaron defeated him. He had an idea regarding what would happen. He was dying slowly anyways, he knew it. His wife always told him those cancer sticks would kill him one day, he just never thought he would live long enough to be old enough for that to be relevant.
Jokes on him. Still, it was rarely death in and of itself that one feared, it was their pains of death and the fates one would suffer if they were made to answer for all of their sins. He had nothing left but the memories and the bones of the people he loved and he was left to linger in a community where he was surrounded by people who feared and reviled him. His health was fading and his legacy was tarnished.
"I want you to be afraid. Because some day, I am going to come for you. It isn't today. It may not be tomorrow. It may not be weeks from now. But I will come for you. And on that day if I find that you are not sufficiently afraid, I will hurt you in indescribable fashions. You may think that there is nothing left for the world to take from you but on that day I will prove you wrong."
As if the Deep Court Lord could read his mind he made his threat. His eyes focused on a ring, Kaito's ring. It was a rather simple ring or it would seem to the unsuspecting but Katsuo had seen this ring before and its immense power. Little did Mikaboshi know, the ring was intended for the host he had invaded, Katsuo had demonstrated something 'special' when he pardoned the Cabal. He shown not only mercy and wisdom beyond his years but gave the Cabalist hope that there might be another way. Kaito was dying and had no heir, he had nobody except for a chance meeting two years ago with the would-be king. In that time he had thought better of bequeathing the ring to the absentee heir, he had yet to take the Diamond Throne and bring order to these ravaged lands. The 'errant king' he had come to call him. He did not know that the last Sunahoshi was standing before him, at least his body was. Katsuo had been possessed by the Deep Court Lord and there was likely nothing left but a shell of the man Katio had briefly met.
"No!" Kaito growled as Mikaboshi grabbed his hand and liberated from it, forcefully so to pull it over the knuckle. Kaito cried out in pain as the finger was temporarily dislocated. Kaito was unable to stop him from taking the ring in his disheveled state. Kaito tried to snatch it back but he was barely able to lift his own arms. Mikaboshi would examine the artifact for a moment before stowing it away in his gear.
"Give that back," Kaito demanded through clenched teeth.
"I am glad we had a chance to have this little talk, Kaito of the Cabal."
Mikaboshi raised a talon-like hand to Kaito. The twisting, arching and seemingly boiling energy that twisted about his claws came down on Kaito. Mikaboshi was not imbuing his own power, strength or energy into Kaito, but rather that of Avaron. Avaron's energy was far from normal and far from human. Kaito
screamed and it was a terrible sound. His back arched and he convulsed on the ground, white foam seemed to drip from his mouth. He was not dead, but he would wish he was as this mixture of energy broke into his body and ravaged his chakra coils and flesh. Avaron was part demon, part human and she too had eaten an Ancient or three.
Mikaboshi was gone, only a lingering final phrase among the dissipating shades.
"Be seeing you."
Mikaboshi has gotten the final contract from the contract event -- Yokai.
This contract was taken by force in this thread but for the sake of papertrails he actually IC'ly earned it via the RP win in a thread with Katsuo and Kaito but it was a group thread and the reward was not going to be given out in a group thread.
A quick review: Naganisa (snake) went to James, Shouki (frog) went to Ray, Saiga (marine mammal) went to Kuro, Fuu (bird) went to Roku and Kaito (Yokai) went to Mikaboshi/Kaito.
