Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

It had been a long trip, but as Shukuya watched Port Cirrus draw ever closer in on the horizon in the early hours of the morning, he couldn’t help but smile. The city was beautiful in it’s own way, glittering like a jewel against the night sky. Towering buildings twinkled with light, and the harbor was bustling even at this hour. The sight alone lifted his spirits, and he felt a renewed sense of purpose as he considered what led him here.

Leaving Tsuki No Kuni had left him aimless, at first. The Shrine was corrupt, and his brothers in the Priesthood were either complicit or too cowardly to act against them. He had tried to push for reform, to return the Shrine to what it should’ve been, but he had only been met with scorn, silence, and eventually violence. Change would not come peacefully to Tsuki No Kuni, but he was only one man, and he could not fight an entire country alone. And so he had left, all but banished from the land he come to call his home.

Shukuya had wandered from country to country in the months that followed, slaying demons and aiding the people where he could. The journey had opened his eyes to the world in ways that he had not expected. The former Priest had always known that evil was everywhere, but he had so rarely ventured beyond the Shrine that he had never seen the true extent of it himself The common man languished in poverty and oppression, while nobles lived in luxury from the fruit of their suffering. Rulers sat on their thrones, guiding the order that perpetuated injustice. All the while dark spirits and demons lurked in the shadows, feeding on it all.

He had nearly came to despair in those days, but then his Lord had spoken to him. He had given Shukuya a glimpse what could be, a world where benevolence reigned over apathy and malice, where order triumphed over chaos. The world could change, he saw, but it would not be an easy road. It would be a journey of suffering and sacrifice that would span decades, and he was not likely to see it’s end. Yet Shukuya had been undeterred. He knew he could meet his end with a smile if it meant the world could be put on a better path. His Lord rewarded his resolve, and showed him where to go. Kaminari No Kuni. Kumogakure. There, he could grow stronger to face the challenges that awaited him. He could gather the friends, allies, and influence he would need to make his dream a reality.

“It all starts here.” Shukuya murmured to himself, and the blade at his side sung in approval, it's song cutting through the night. Kotowari shined brightly, burning with the divine light of his patron. His Lord was pleased.

This was where he needed to be.

This was where it began.

Shukuya nearly cheered when a shinobi appeared from the gates. Judging by the mask, he was probably one of the village’s ANBU, but he couldn’t be sure. Shinobi tended to be an odd bunch, after all. Straightening himself as the man approached, Shukuya returned the man’s greeting with a slight bow and smiled sheepishly when he noted his obviously foreign origins. “I suppose I stick out like a sore thumb! Honestly, I’ve never been anywhere with so much snow! I think it’d be kind of fun if weren’t so cold…” Shukuya chattered, following behind the masked shinobi as he led him a room near the gates. The priest nearly sighed in relief when he entered, the warmth of the fire burning in the corner offering a welcome reprieve from the inclement weather outside. Rubbing his hands together to warm them, he perked up when the man got to business.

‘Ah! Right..” Shukuya said to himself, and shoved his hand into his satchel, fishing for his paperwork. It took him a moment to find it in the clutter of his bag, but with a satisfied hum he pulled the passport out and handed it to the guard. The document was still in good condition, having been reissued to him only a year ago. Fortunately, the Shrine hadn’t revoked it after he’d left. Probably to keep him from coming back and causing trouble. But that was neither here nor there. Pushing the thought to the side, Shukuya walked over to the table and plopped down in one of the chairs as he considered the man’s question. Most people didn’t understand the intricacies of the Gods and their relationships with their chosen servants, so he couldn’t exactly say he was here because His Lord had given him a vision. He’d settle for something close enough to the truth, though. He didn’t lie, after all.

“I’m here on Pilgrimage.” Shukuya informed the man. “I’m a Priest. Though, outside of Tsuki No Kuni that probably has a different connotation. It might be more accurate to say I’m a shaman, an exorcist, or a demon slayer or some mix of the above if you have a word for it. Do you have a word for it actually? I’ve traveled a lot and it’s always fascinating-” The priest began to ramble, but he caught himself after a moment, and continued on after an embarrassed pause. “Uhm, sorry. I tend to let my mouth get away with me.”

“But yes! Pilgrimage! Kumogakure has always been fascinating for my order given your village’s rather colorful history with the supernatural, and I believe there is a great deal I can learn here.”

All true. The Priests had long believed that this village was some sort of spiritual nexus much like Tsukigakure given the problems they’d had with demons in the past, and he suspected that this was partly why His Lord had led him here. All sorts of interesting people and things tended to gather around such areas, after all.

“As for how long I’m planning to stay, I’d say as long as your leaders will allow. I have little need to travel elsewhere at the moment. I’d be more than happy to offer my particular set of skills in return. I am rather good at killing demons and dealing with other less malevolent spirits, after all.

“Much better…” Shukuya hummed happily, grinning at his new attire as he stepped out of one of the many shops that dotted the Dawnbringer’s Plaza. After entering the village, he had spent the evening in a cheap and slightly sketchy hotel, and set out the following morning to run a few errands. His first stop had been a clothing store to purchase a new wardrobe suitable for the wintery village His Lord had sent him to.

The priest had exchanged his old clothing for a thick, red winter coat over a long sleeved white shirt and a pair of double layered black cargo pants. He’d even picked up a shinobi mask that covered most of his face below his eyes in black cloth. All in all, he considered it money well spent. The cold mountain air was still biting, but he could actually enjoy the weather without freezing his cheeks off for the first time in days.

Weaving through the crowded plaza,Shukuya tucked his hands into the pockets of his new jacket and glanced upwards. The sun sat high in the sky, accompanied only by a few stray clouds. He figured it was still a couple of hours before noon, leaving him plenty of time to head to his next destination before it was time for lunch.

If he was going to stay in the village for any length of time, he’d need a steady source of income and a place to stay. Fortunately, the Priest had plenty of skills beyond killing monsters and a few ideas on where he might find a solution to his housing problem. However, before he could further consider his situation, Kotowari sung at his side.”What’s gotten into you, huh?” Shukuya questioned the blade curiously, and rested his hand on it’s hilt in an attempt to quiet it.

Almost instantly, his mind was assaulted with a flurry of images, and he swayed on his feet. He saw a young girl walking through a forest, and a shadow lurking behind her. A wraith protected her, but it was fading, and the monster lept forward to consume her. Someone was calling him, someone he should know, but he couldn’t place it and before the priest could even try to remember he found himself back on the street with a quiet gasp.

Blinking, Shukuya shook his head and tried to clear the fog from his thoughts. His Lord hadn’t given him a vision in some time, much less one so vivid and with such a sense of urgency. Someone was in danger, and his Lord had given him a warning. “I need to find that girl…” He muttered under his breath, and Kotowari hummed in agreement. The priest knew she had to be nearby, but the village was still unfamiliar to him. He had seen the beginnings of a forest in the northeastern district of the village while he was finding his way around the day before, but he had no real idea if that was where he needed to go.

Yet it was his best bet, and Shukuya quickly set off. Getting through the crowds and the winding streets of Kumogakure without drawing attention took longer than he’d liked, but soon enough he broke through the sprawl and made his way to the Nimbus Delectatio. The Ancient Forest loomed in the distance, and he came to a stop in a field some ways away from the treeline. Kotowari gleamed, signalling that he was where he needed to be. Now to find the girl.

“Alright then.”

Clapping his hands together, Shukuya drew upon the Blessing, and his normally purple eyes burned gold, flickering with holy light. His Lord’s greatest gift granted him many abilities, but perhaps the most important at the moment was that it allowed him to sense the monsters he hunted. And sense them he did. ‘This is the place..’ Shukuya thought to himself, eying the forest warily. He might’ve missed it if he hadn’t been looking for it, but something was off. It wasn’t a demon, he knew that much. The twisted malice he associated with the creatures was absent. Instead it was something more subtle, and perhaps more insidious. It was like staring into the void, but something stared back, and it was hungry.

‘....A Preta? How did a little girl manage to attract a Hungry Ghost?’ Shukuya nearly cursed. Pretas were the spirits of men who had been ruled by lust and greed in life, and committed great crimes. The Gods damned them to wander the world, haunted by an endless hunger that they could never satisfy. Most simply languished, enduring their punishment until the Gods saw fit to lift it, but others found that they could find some relief in feeding from humans. These spirits became twisted, corrupted monsters that became increasingly dangerous over time, and their favorite targets happened to be those with strong spiritual energy. He had ran into more than a few in the past, the creatures drawn by his own power, and they had always been annoying to deal with.

Shukuya had to find her, and quickly. If not, she’d end up a snack, and that wasn’t something he would allow. Flickering into the forest with a burst of speed, he darted through the trees, racing toward where the hunger was the strongest. With the Blessing enhancing his movements, it took only a few moments to reach his destination, and what he saw when he arrived in the clearing made his blood boil. The Preta, an emaciated humanoid creature with a grotesquely bulging stomach, had captured the girl in tendrils of shadow and was preparing to feed. His arrival didn’t go unnoticed, and the beast shifted it’s tiny head in his direction, hissing.
‘You!’

“Me.” Shukuya growled, and drew Kotowari from its scabbard with a single, sweeping motion. The ornate katana gleamed, it’s pure white blade shining even in the gloom of the forest.

‘You can’t have her, Priest! She’s mine! I’ve been waiting for years! YEARS!!!’

“She’s not yours to have, beast.” Shukuya declared harshly, pointing his blade at the creature. “You committed great evil in life, and rather than enduring your punishment, you’ve chosen to prey on the innocent. That-” In an instant the fullness of the Blessing exploded around him, a mantle of holy white flame wreathing his body in radiance. It’s light seemed to burn away the shadows, and the monster recoiled instinctively, realizing too late exactly what it was dealing with. “-Is something that I can’t forgive. So disappear!”

‘Wait! No! PLEASE!’

“Ikari!”

Kotowari shined like the sun, but for a moment nothing seemed to happen. Then the world burned, seemingly vanishing in a blinding flash of holy energy. The corrupted form of the Preta was incinerated instantly, it’s dying shrieks silenced as it was reduced to nothing more than ashes on the wind. “Good riddance…” Shukuya spat, sheathing his blade as the light faded.

With the threat dispatched, the priest turned to the girl, who was now freed from her shadowy prison. His countenance softened as he looked her over. She was young, probably no older than 9 or 10, with dark skin and black hair. Something about her seemed familiar, but he had no idea of where he might’ve met her before. Seeing the girl sway on her feet, Shukuya tore himself from his thoughts and flickered to her side, grasping her shoulder and allowing her to lean against him.

“You alright there, little one?”

Shukuya had woken early that morning, and set off into the Susukino District as soon as the sun had risen in the sky and the shops had began to open. The priest had stopped at a small restaurant to grab something warm to eat, and after downing a cheap meal of rice and miso soup, he’d continued his search for accommodations.

“This isn’t going well…” He grumbled under his breath. He’d spent the last few days scouring the village for a shrine to crash in during his stay, but he hadn’t had much luck. The local clergy seemed offended by the very idea of giving a foreign priest shelter, much less allowing him to help with their duties. He’d expected some suspicion and maybe a touch of hostility here and there, but this was a bit ridiculous. The ANBU at the gates really wasn’t kidding when he said they were intolerant.

Pulling his map from his satchel, Shukuya unfolded it with a flick of his hand. ‘Only place left to check is the Cronopolis..’ The priest mused, eying the map with a small frown maring his face. Something about the village’s slums just seemed wrong the few times he had ventured near them, and he had an idea why thanks to the legends. Honestly, who thought that building a village on the top of the corpse of a demon god was a good idea?

Letting out a sigh, he returned the map to his bag. That Kumogakure had left its most vulnerable to live among the lingering influence of an ancient incarnation of hate and malice was just another testament to how messed up things could be. Yet it also served to remind him of why he was here. If the priest truly wanted to change things he had to start somewhere, after all.

Shukuya clapped his hands against his face a few times. Brooding had never done him any favors, and he wasn’t about to start now. Fortunately, a welcome distraction was headed his way. The Priest grinned when he noticed a familiar figure making her way toward him in the crowd, and he pushed his troubles to the back of his mind for the moment. He knew she'd find her way back to him eventually.

It had only ever been a matter of time.
