The inn was quiet, almost deserted. The night was matching it, a black abyss above filled with pinpoints of white and a glimmer of hope for the man. He could leave now, just run off and leave his bodyguard behind. He had little doubt why the young lady was joining them, likely to make sure Haruka didn’t simply abandon the village during his voyage to the far off land of Mist. He wouldn’t let her if he decided to go, she had a village to care for and people in it to protect from their own abusive leaders. He couldn’t take that from her.
Tonight was the night of reminiscing, thinking over the actions that led to his being where he was. It all started with that damned Minamoto. If he hadn’t gotten Mizukage, if he hadn’t skipped over Hoshikata for a sennin position, then the young man would never have gone looking for his dread god to right the wrongs of his life. And in a most roundabout way it had done so. IT tried to kill him, and instead empowered him, and through that power Hoshikata had seized the village for his own, holding it in his grip even from the shadows.
But then it had become too small. Why take a village when you can have the world? So he left, taking his family with him merely to remind the village who ran things. And his brother had angered him, and in his wrath the ice came down. But Haruka knew of this, and she still loved him. So now here he sat, a god heading towards the death of his divinity and being happy about it. Life, was strange.
Hoshikata chuckles, heading inside and to his room. He was going to need some sleep before the night was over.
