One week earlier, in Port Cirrus...
Noboru sat in the seediest tavern there was, with a mug of water in front of him. Unfortunately for the revenant, his body didn't let him get drunk anymore. Though he had gotten used to it in the last half century or so.
So why did he come here at all? The gossip. Being in prison for a while left one out of loop so to speak. So he was picking up on the current events of lightning, since we all know that ports were where things happened. A war between marsh and bear, with lightning trying to stay out of it. No real news of the shinobi nations, but that was the nature of the beast. That meant they were doing their job if Noboru wasn't hearing anything. But what really had him puzzled, was who had got him out of that hell hole.
Naturally, it was not that long before that answer was made obvious to him. In the few hours he had been in the tavern, not one person had even gone near him. But there was one who entered inconspicuously, and looked around as if seeking a specific individual. Noboru's first thought was that it was a cop of some kind, but when his eyes were laid upon the escaped convict, he knew it couldn't be true. After witnessing the death of everyone in the prison, there would be no way he would be recognized, or even remembered. Naturally, that meant it was someone either on the team that saved him, or the people who hired them.
Once the stranger found Noboru, he made his way to his table and sat in the chair across from him. For a moment, they just starred at each other, Noboru wetting his lips with his tongue. Then the stranger placed a seal envelope on the table, and slide it to Noboru. And with that action, the man left, and Noboru was alone again. Just who were these enigmatic saviors, he wondered.
Opening the envelope, he found a passport and set of instructions. Turns out his next stop was Kumogakure...
---
Now at the Dragon Tooth Pass.
Noboru arrived wearing rather worn out clothes and a jacket from a thrift shop. No weapons, no suspicious tells. He wasn't going to squander his new found freedom so he would wait to be approached.
---
Meanwhile, Kioku ate a donut.
