Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Was Kaen the best of the best, the smartest, fastest, strongest? Perhaps not, but he took initiative and let little to nothing stand in his way when it came to the things he wanted. It matters not the how, or the why, the only thing that matters is that it will happen for a greater purpose. One that people might not be able to see now, or ever really, but it is still something that must be done, in Kaen's eyes anyway. So when he set up this little experiment, he didn't quite know the outcome, only that he thought it should be done. So this is why he took it upon himself to send out a messenger bird to the little girl known as Suzume. True, she never told him her name, but Kaen was a full fledged member of the Anbu Corp and easily got her records from the hospital when she was released.

Upon receiving the note, it would simply read; "If you seek the justice that is deserved of you, meet your old friend at Jun's Noodle Palace at 10 AM tomorrow morning" The note wasn't signed, only the words. It was a gamble to seek out whomever might have written and sent this note, but for a girl that willfully strolls down the streets of the Red Light District, what's meeting a stranger at a public place. More so considering the location in question was conveniently located just a few blocks away from the village gates. So if push came to shove or any danger was sniffed out, the girl could easily seek out help. 10 AM wasn't too early, at least not for Kaen, hopefully not for Suzume. It would a slightly less busier time than normal, it was just a few hours before the usual lunching hour so there wouldn't be too many people around, but enough to feel safe.

Whether the girl came or not, Kaen would be sitting alone near the front of the small establishment. A small table, enough chairs for two, the opposite across from him was still empty and vacant, being saved for an expected guest, Suzume. He would be enjoying a nice cup of coffee while he waited. Glancing at his watch it would read 9:30 AM, not too much longer now. He would tip his mug back and take a small sip. The steam vented off the surface of the liquid quite nicely, filling his nose with the aroma of the sweet nectar of the gods. He would wait till she arrived to do anything else, should she not come at all, he would simply get up and leave. But assuming she did, he would watch her for a moment to see what she did. Expecting that she would be confused, not really sure where she should be looking, Kaen would speak up. "I've saved a seat for you, Suzume." She might not recognize him, his face was under a mask and she was just coming out of her near death state. He would fill her in should the need arise. But surely she had a few questions for him first, only time would tell.

[This is a continuation of this thread: https://www.ninpocho.com/viewtopic.php?f=514&t=55441]

Two days had passed since the incident. The first night was fitful and nightmares plagues her constantly as she tried to recover in the hospital. On one occasion that day, during one of her first half-dozen fits, she had ripped out her IV, causing her nurse and staff no end of troubles. She could not keep herself from reliving parts of the incident, vaguely exaggerated and otherworldly as dreams tend to do, but that only exasperated their terrifying effect. Thankfully she had little to do but sleep and avoid answering direct questions from her blood-mother, who stayed with her as soon as she heard of her daughter's internment in the hospital due to her injuries. By the time she was released, all they had managed to pry out of her was that she had been attacked in an alleyway somewhere in the village.

Her eyes were heavy and she felt exhausted, the lack of restful sleep and recovering from her injuries had taken a great toll on her. Heedless of this, she insisted that she not stay in the hospital any longer than she was forced. Her cuts had already healed, thanks in no small part to the miraculous capabilities of chakra based medicine and only a few faint scar lines remained where the cuts were particularly deep on her upper arm. Coming home was little better than her stay in the hospital however. Her overbearing father had practically locked her away in her room until he deemed she was fully recovered, and she didn't have the strength or the energy to fight with him like she normally would when he acted this way.

The messenger bird landing on her window seal had caught her off guard, and had it not been quite insistent on getting her attention, she might have simply ignored the little bird. Once she fetched the note, Suzume only grew more confused as to what was written upon it. Justice? Old friend? There was no one that she could think of who could meet that description who might send her this note. The allure of getting out of her lock down was too enticing for her to seriously consider that it could be a trap, no that she needed any excuse 'practice her shinobi skills' by sneaking out from her room. The hour was late though, and by the time she had finished the letter, the bird had already flown off to return to its home. Walking back over to her bed, she stuffed the note in her nightstand, turning off the light once more as she tried to get at least a few hours of sleep.

Thankfully, Suzume managed to get more than the scant few hours which had become the norm, but her brain was still working at half capacity as she sneaked out the window of her bedroom. Her attempts at subterfuge were sloppy, and her parents would almost certainly know before she had a chance to return, but she was too curious and eager to stretch her legs to pass up the opportunity. All she knew was that she was saved by some ANBU officer with hair that nearly matched the color of blood. The thought had brought a flash of memory to her, and she nearly lost her foothold on the railing that she was climbing down from. Taking a moment to steady herself, she took in a deep breath and made her way carefully down and off to the designated meeting place.

Unsurprisingly, she had underestimated the time it would take her to reach the location, and it was nearly ten minutes after before she finally arrived. Whomever was waiting for her probably had already left, but she made her way inside, her breathing hard from the exhasted running. The establishment was not packed but nor was it empty either as the early lunch rush began to set in. Catching her breath, she looked around the area, not really sure what to look for. Part of her expected to see some ANBU member sitting in some shadow somewhere wearing their trademark mask, but that was closer to a wistful dream rather than a real expectation. She did not need to search for very long before a red haired man spoke up, sitting off to one side of the Noodle Palace with an empty seat opposite him.

Suzume looked around for a moment, paused and looked at him to make sure that he was talking to her and not some other Suzume that might have been nearby. After some gesture of reassurance, she would make her way over, her eyes looking slightly tinged with red, but otherwise looking relatively healthy. She stood by the table, looking at him, inspecting him to see if he was familiar. He knew her name, so certainly she must have known his, but neither his face nor voice were familiar to her. He certainly was not part of the Oushi-Ouja, but it was possible he was from another of the branches. "Did you send the note?" She asked, not quite a whisper but making sure her voice did not carry across the eatery. "If you are talking about... that guy, he has already been locked up. Permanently." That last bit was speculation, wistful thinking even, as all she knew was that an ANBU had brought her to the hospital. Unless that man had escaped their clutches, he surely would be locked up somewhere never to see daylight again. If that wasn't the case, than her entire foundation for feeling even the slightest bit safe would quickly take a hard right turn and crash off the mountainside.

When she was content that he was here to see her, she would eventually sit down across from him. Watching him with a curious but untrained eye. In the better light of more respectable areas of the village, she looked to be a rather normal fourteen year old girl, if slightly tall for her age. Only one of the scars were visible from her outfit, one of the lines stretching from a few inches below her shoulder blade and down to her right elbow, manifesting as a thing faintly lighter line where the gash had once been. As she sat, she appeared slightly nervous, but her lack of energy took the edge off the tapping her hand or the bobbing of her foot on the ground, causing them to become sporadic as she listened to him and his explanation of the note.

Kaen would reveal a small smile, a smirk if anything. One side of his mouth perking up as she curiously asked if it was him that send the note. He would give a reassuring nod, of course it was him, however confusing it must have been. Surely she was bewildered and out of sorts with her stay at the hospital. Anyone who lost that much blood would surely have little recollection of the events of such a day. But it would appear that not all was lost within the mind of this little girl. She was able to recall the event with clarity, the 'man' specifically. This was good, it meant her mind was still in good shape, however traumatized it might have been. Hopefully it could withstand a bit more as the day was young and Kaen's plans might test the limits of Suzume's mind once more.

This is true, the man was taken care of. I made sure he stayed exactly where I wanted him." Given the fact they were out in public meant Kaen had to be slightly cryptic in his words so as not to reveal a few things such as the fact he was Anbu and that a crazed lunatic had managed to break free from captivity. Just as Kaen finished his sentence, a lovely waitress would arrive at their table. "Are you two ready to order? I can list our specials if you would like." If Suzume were to try and order something, Kaen would interrupt her and speak over her. "No thank you. We won't be staying long, but I suppose a drink would be acceptable. I will take a coffee, black. And she will have..." Kaen gestured towards Suzume, allowing her a moment to speak up should she wish to get some type of refreshment. Should she pause for a moment, perhaps worried, Kaen would mention that he would be paying for it and there would be no need to worry about paying him back for it. After Suzume requested something, or nothing, the waitress would nod and disappear momentarily.

Kaen would divert his attention back towards the young lady that sat across from him, his eyes changing to something much more serious. It was not meant to frighten her, only to assure that he would be receiving her full attention. "I'm going to say a couple things and when I am finished one of two things will happen. One, you can stay where you are seated and enjoy your drink before leaving with me. Or two, you can decide you don't want to do option one and I will leave, you can finish your drink and go on home like nothing ever happened, deal? Kaen was pretty sure she would hear him out, and after she nodded or verbally agreed he would continue. Perfect. Now then... There are a few things you might be curious about, if you haven't already come to the conclusion yourself. Might as well lay it all out on the table. Just then the waitress will return and place their drinks on the table. "Is there anything else I can get you two?" Kaen would shake his head and the waitress would leave them in peace.

"As I was saying... Yes, I am that guy from that day. I 'dealt' with the other man and took you to the hospital. But I am not here seeking praise or thanks, no. I come here with an offer, one that won't come again should you walk away. Another thing is that should you decide to walk away, everything that was spoken here shall never part your lips till the day your body returns to the sands. I don't wish to threaten a pleasant little thing such as yourself, but there are formalities and assurances that I must have to ensure my own... preservation." Kaen would pause for a moment and take a drink of the coffee. The steam was wildly rising from the surface, indicating that it was fresh from the pot and had not cooled down yet. But the scalding liquid didn't phase Kaen in the slightest and he drank half the cup in one go. Either Kaen was crazy tough or there was something 'more' to him that met the eye. "As I said earlier, that 'man' is exactly where I want him. That being said I can assure you he is not being held captive in our dungeons." Kaen would pause for a moment, allowing her to soak in this information. "What I offer you today is justice, a chance to seek out retribution for the... 'incident' that occurred. You see... I was tasked to seek out this 'man' and bring him back, dead or alive. But I was not given any time constraints." Kaen paused another moment to finish his coffee. Afterwards he would wait a moment to see if she had anything to say.

It was true that he was being incredibly vague about the entire ordeal, but this was fine. If Suzume chose to come with Kaen, wherever that would take them, he would provide her with an opportunity that would not present itself again again. At least from Kaen. "So what will it be, Suzume? Option one, or two? I ask that you think carefully about this as one option will forever change your life while the other you get to go on living your life as it stands now, nothing but a victim in this world's sadistic version of life. The choice is yours..." Kaen would relax in his chair and gaze out into the crowds of people wandering to and from their individual places. He would await an answer from Suzume.

Suzume looked incredulously at the man as he reveled that he had that abomination where this mysterious man wanted him. "You?" she asked, sounding both disbelieving and surprised, but she was cut off from saying anything further when the waitress came. Caught off balance, she gave a hesitant, "same." By the time the woman left, he had wrangled full control of the conversation and Suzume's question was momentarily lost to the winds as he dove straight into his proposition. Suzume proceeded to look away from him for a moment, glancing to her side at the other patrons who were not within immediate earshot of their conversation before she looked back to him. "What if I don't enjoy the drink?" Her comment was meant to be witty and humorous, but after only a second she could tell that he was either not amused or her attempts otherwise fell flat and so she would reply a more quiet and resigned, "I guess I can hear you out."

Moments later the woman came back with their cups, and Suzume would quickly latch onto hers, nearly burning herself as she grabbed the drink by grabbing onto the hot mug. She winced slighly and proceeded to turn and pull the cup to her by its handle, listening to him as she looked back and forth between him and her drink. She was not sure how to respond, keeping quiet even as he sipped his coffee, her own in her hand but somehow forgotten. If that was him, then he first saved her life, then contacted her with an offer that could end up with him threatening to kill her? The stories she had heard about ANBU were starting to sound more and more true as the long seconds trodded on.

Slowly but surely, it all was starting to sink in, or at least her understanding of it. Staring down into the pitch black disk of her cup, she simply asked, "why?" It all sounded too convoluted to be real, and if she was not dealing with ANBU then she would have presumed it to be a big prank, but the ANBU did not have senses of humor. "Why are you coming to me about this? Weren't you like... going to lock him up or something? He... he killed a guy." She had no idea that the man was an escapee, nor his morbid track record. It was all prejudices and presumptions that traced the lines that made up her mental image of what was going on, but if he killed that other man and was going to... to her, then surely he would be locked away in the Black Palace forever. "I don't understand. He isn't going to go free... is he?"

Her grip on the cup stiffened as she imagined that shinigami's eyes peering out of her from her cup. Traces of the fear that she felt were beginning to be dredged up as she thought about the incident. She did not know exactly what he had planned for her, but each time she imagined it, it grew to became worse and even more horrific. "So... what did you mean by retribution." She had lost sight of the cafe around them, but the residual fear had managed to squash her voice to barely more than a whisper.

Why...

Why are we here? Why do we get up every morning and aim to achieve something? Why does bad things happen to good people and yet no divine judgment befalls the vile? It's a philosophical and powerful question that echoes throughout history and extends into forever. There will always be the question 'why' and there will always be life, which one of these things doesn't need an answer? Kaen stared out into the crowds passing by, that thousand yard stare in his eyes. He took a deep breathe and tried to answer as best he could. "A wise person once told me that the common masses, the people, the nobodies all ask why. They never amounted to much, forever trying to grasp the understanding of everything, the reason behind life. And then there were the exceptional, the kind of people everyone hears about in books and tales. The thing that set them above the rest was that they never asked why, no. Instead they would dream things that were impossible and instead ask why not." Kaen fiddled with the empty cup before him before turning to Suzume, his eyes locking with her own. "I try not to spend to much time asking 'why' and instead focus on what I should do now or how I should react to something." Kaen was beginning to grow weary of this idle time and readjusted himself in his seat.

Taking his mug in his hand he would call forth the innate powers that made him what he was. Such instant and ferocious heat focused on his mug would cause it to glow slightly and radiate the heat outwards for Suzume to feel. It would melt like ice on a hot day, dripping onto the wooden table. "The truth of the matter is that the 'why' doesn't matter. I would love to tell you that everything happens for a reason, but that would mean that even the wrong choices were the right ones. What kind of a world would that be? Why? Because I felt like it, because I am focusing on what I SHOULD do and now you should focus on how to react." Kaen would rise from his seat and take a step towards the door, pausing a moment. Without turning around, he would finish his thoughts. "As for your retribution and that man's freedom. That rests entirely on whether you come with me or not..." And with that he would walk away, slowly. Should Suzume decide to stay and refuse his offer, he would leave her in peace. But should she follow she would find herself on a mysterious path that would lead to her following Kaen through the streets of Sunagakure all the way to and out of the village gates. She could remain a why or choose to be a why not, when nothing is certain, anything is possible.

Suzume sat there, still and silent, as he gave his speech on 'why's and 'why not's, on legends and commoners, and on the choices that people made. The rational part of her brain, which was often abused and neglected in recent times, told her it was simply a manipulation tactic. Get her to stop questioning the ulterior motive behind things and to simply follow along without question. Times were not changing for the teenager, however and her emotional side was already somewhat volatile from staring into her coffee. She wanted to live up to these loft expectations that everyone placed on her. She wanted to be as amazing as the Storm Lord. None of this had anything to do with that, but given just a little prodding, her mind somehow found a way to relate the stranger's proposal and her aspirations.

The heat radiating off his mug and the sight of it glowing broke her out of her momentary stupor as she stared at it in a mixture of awe and fright. Was that a threatening gesture or was he unable to control his abilities like she was? He was ANBU, the answer was obvious, but still her mind entertained the possibility as she watched him stand and walk past her towards the exit. As he made his way past, paused for a moment to allude to her questions, she simply stared forward at the cooling puddle that once was the mug, it was somehow an entrancing sight as her mind tried to process everything that was going on.

Then, as he finished with what she saw as a thinly veiled threat about the man's freedom, she quickly turned in her chair to see him leaving, nearly spilling her coffee in the process. If she didn't come with him, would he let that man go? If he did let him go, wouldn't that abomination of a man come after her? Even the mere thought of the possibility of it struck her to her core. That man wouldn't possibly do that, could he? If he was ANBU it wasn't outside the realm of possibility, they were an unpredictable lot who worked for the so-called betterment of the village. What was one girl to that?

She hesitated for a few seconds longer, staring at him from her chair as he made his way out from the Noodle Palace. Her mind clashed with itself on what to do. She was afraid of what going with him could mean, could she even trust him. Her thoughts drifted back to what he had said a few moments ago about heroes and legends. If she wanted to be one, she couldn't simply sit there and not follow after him, right? With a sudden and loud scraping sound of the leg of her chair rubbing against the ground, Suzume hastily got to her feet and rushed towards the door and outside as well. Once outside, she would frantically look around to find him. Thankfully he had not gone far, just a few dozen paces down the street and she hurriedly rushed over towards him.

When she got within a few steps she slowed herself to a causal walk and tried to calm herself. She still didn't even know his name, but she didn't want to see her as some frantic needy child, but a strong and confident woman. "Yeah so, I guess I can humor you." She puffed up her voice to sound older and more mature, keeping her voice flat and disinterested. She was not sure what else to say, though she pondered that as she continued to follow him. Eventually that lead her outside the confines of the city and out into the harsh heat and dry sun of Wind Country. Quite sometime would pas before she eventually mustered the nerve to speak, "where we going anyway? Not that I really care or anything." Her tone was again that of the disinterested confidence that she attempted to exude, though to an ANBU it would continue to be as plain as day that she was still quite confused and nervous beneath that veil.

Kaen smirked at Suzume's disinterested façade, she reminded him of him when he was younger in a sense. That overly confident attitude exuding at every turn in the hopes that it might actually come true. That was half the battle really, just believing in yourself. It may sound a little cheesy, but it was the truth. If one does not have confidence in anything, they will never amount to anything and their own self disbelief will be what defeats them, not the enemy.

The majority of their travels were spent in silence, at least until Suzume broke it and spoke up. "Where we going anyway? Not that I really care or anything." The pair started to climb the base of an especially large sand dune. Kaen started upwards as he spoke. "We're almost there now, just over this ridge now. I'm taking you to an abandoned outpost. You will know why upon arrival." As the pair finally crested the top of the dune, they would be at an incredibly high point within the desert and would be able to see for miles in every direction. In the distance they could faintly make out the visage of Sunagakure, in the other directions was mostly an arid wasteland of desert sand. But to the west they could make out the outline of a complex. How long had it been since Kaen was last here? Years I suppose. Kaen's own life was drastically altered that fateful day, perhaps Suzume's will as well. "See, we're almost there. Do try and keep up, it would be an incredible waste of a day if you were to fall behind and get eaten by a sandwyrm." Kaen chuckled to himself as he made his way down the slope and across the sands towards their destination.

The complex was even more run down than the last time he was here, time was a spiteful bitch. Although the smell of death and the blood soaked sands had melted away with time, though the memory was still strong in his mind. His life was vastly changed when he met 'her' right here in this very outpost. Now all that remained was a barren and rundown building still classified as a quarantine zone. To the public it was deemed hazardous and radioactive here, but Kean knew the truth. Being Anbu had many perks, he knew full well they were still investigating exactly what the hell had happened so long ago. It was practically a cold case now, only one Anbu was tasked to researching the event. That Anbu was here, escorting a little girl by the name of Suzume through its front doors. They would be safe here, no unwanted visitors would bother his work here.

Kaen would lead Suzume to a cold, dark room. As he pushed open the large double doors he could almost hear her voice. That sweet yet eerie melody playing in his mind, her soft commanding voice echoed out towards him, that 'precipitant youth'. The energy that was released that day still hung heavy on the air, he could still feel it. It was a part of him, a part of 'her', a part of their 'kind'. In the center of the room was a chair, upon that chair was a man, upon that man was a chakra collar and a hood. His body was charred and blackened, yet he lived and breathed. Perhaps she might not recognize him at first, but this was most definitely Mukuro. Kaen would say nothing as he left Suzume's side and walked behind the hooded man. "Your chance for retribution awaits you..." As he uttered his lingering last word, Kaen lifted up the shoddy veil to reveal the bug eyes monstrosity that set upon Suzume's flesh. What would she do, what would she say? Perhaps she said nothing, perhaps she spewed forth a million questions. But surely she would realize what Kaen meant for her to do this day, perhaps not. Kaen would let her soak it all in for a moment, allow her a moment of silence to gather any questions she might have. Mukuro on the other hand would remain unconscious, for now.

[MFT - In case you would like to read about the last time Kaen was here; https://www.ninpocho.com/viewtopic.php?f=215&t=50029]

Doing her best to continue to uphold her facade, Suzume worked her shorter legs as hard as she could to traverse the difficult sands. Born and raised in Suna, and yet she had scarcely stood in open desert more than a handful of times and each of those was with an escort of her elders. She supposed she still was being escorted, but the fact that it was not family helped to boost her confidence some; just another step she was taking out of their literal shadows. The threat of sandwyrms helped to motivate her the last leg of the way, though she didn'y fully believe that they came so close to the village, the tales she heard as a child were still vivid.

Something felt off about the air here to Suzume. It felt drier somehow, almost as if it sapped the moisture straight out of her mouth with each breath she took. It partly was due to her mouth hanging slightly open as she looked around the abandoned outpost in awe. She wanted to ask what the place was for, where exactly he was taking her and what she was supposed to do when they got there. Could he be there, she wondered. The mere thought threatened to sap the remaining strength from her legs as the ANBU lead her through the front door of the facility. Shifting from unstable sand to solid ground was enough to help keep her moving forward, but each step still strengthened her unease and spurred on the beat of her worrying heart.

Could he be friends with the man? This all could be a trap to get him alone with her so he could... She shook her head, trying to physically eject the thought from her mind. It was not due to a lack of possibility that she suppressed the thought, but because of the reprocutions that such a mistake on her judgement would entail. If this all was just an elaborate trap, though it was hardly elaborate to trick a foolish girl to accompany a stranger out to a place with no witnesses, she would not be leaving this place alive. Swallowing her heart back down into her chest, Suzume stood as her escort paused to open the large doors, a gust of cool air breathing out from its opening maw as if the abyss itself awaited her beyond. She considered turning and running, but what chance would she stand if she did flee? She would likely end up as a pool of coiling red goo on the ground, the same fate the coffee cup from earlier had suffered.

Stepping a few paces into the room, Suzume froze in place as she saw the poorly illuminated figure sitting on the chair in the distance. Her heart leapt up to choke her, her fears of being betrayed taking the reigns from her rational mind. The dark hood that obscured the stranger's face gave her a moment of comfort as she leaned in to look more closely, and she could see that whomever it was appeared to be restrained. Whomever was a bit of a lie, she knew who sat underneath that black hood, and even with his bindings she could barely contain her primal urge to flee. This time, however, the specter of death was not looming over him as it had that day, and if this ANBU was to be believed, that specter was on her side this day.

Her worried stare was broken by the suddenly shattered silence, the man once again offering her retribution. She took a quick look at him, but once the burnt face of the man revealed itself she could do nothing else but stare at it in horror and disgust. The scars of the cuts flared up in phantom pain and her arms wrapped themselves across her body for comfort and defense. Suzume could do little but stare at him for a long dozen seconds, barely able to blink as her mind attempted to wrangle the reality that was being presented to her. She quickly stole a glance towards the ANBU, looking for some direction or reassurance before it locked back onto the unconscious body of that inhuman creature.

Quietly she took a small step forward, as if the ground beneath her feat might give way with each hesitant step. She did not fall into a pit, at least not a physical one, as she forced herself to take step after careful step. She stopped four feet from him, close enough to see that he was still living but far enough so that he could not lash out and grab her if he was waiting for the opportunity. "Is this a test?" She asked, almost whispering as to not awaken the sleeping nightmare. "Did... did Nabushin send you?" Her mind was trying to even grasp what retribution was in this context. She was still alive, and while he was mere moments from stealing away both her purity and her life he ultimately did fail.

The fact that he did not succeed in his ultimate plan brought her little comfort. She could still feel his touch on her skin; could still see those unholy eyes that loomed over him every time she blinked. Regardless of the answer she got from Mukuro's jailer, she would ask, "who is he? Please... tell me anything you know about him." She knew nothing about the man, and knowing more was likely to only fuel her nightmares further, but she felt she had to know before she took any actions. Perhaps he was an upstanding man who would now regret his actions for more than the repercussions they were bringing him. She did not believe that with any fiber of her being, but something in her still demanded to know. Perhaps she sought to humanize him, to give her reason to quell the primal need to exact vengeance, but if so, she felt she would find any such efforts in vain.

It was evident that Suzume was not expecting such a surprise, it was the eyes. Her eyes seemed to fill with visions of the last day these two met. The traumatic and disgusting attempt on her purity was not something easily forgotten, more so considering it had only happened in these recent days. Kaen understood the weight of such a moment, most shinobi of older and greater caliber would buckle under the pressure that Suzume must have been feeling right now. Nobody ever wants to face their fears, their worries, their demons. But Is something that MUST be confronted if you ever want to rid yourself of that fear and propel yourself into greatness.

Slow and methodical in her movements, Suzume inched closer and closer until she was but a mere few feet away from the bound and unconscious man. Her eyes met Kaen's, she was confused. "Is this a test? Did... did Nabushin send you?" Kaen cocked his head to his right in confusion. A test? I suppose in a way this was a test, but he knew not of this 'Nabushin'. "I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I know who that is. But yes, I suppose you could call this a test. But I would prefer to call it an opportunity." Again with the vauge answers, surely she was tiring of this little game Kaen was playing. But it wasn't a game, was it? No, this was life, cause and effect. That and the whim of a hybrid Flame Court Ancient who served a higher purpose and looked not only in the now, but the future. Kaen would explain just exactly what the 'opportunity' was, but for now Suzume wanted to know who Mukuro was. "Who is he? Please... tell me anything you know about him."

Kaen smiled and left from his position behind the chair that held Mukuro, heading for bag near the door in which they entered to get in here. From within he pulled out a rather thick folder filled with various papers and photographs. He began to flip through it as he retook his position behind Mukuro. "You got to hand it to the Anbu, they are incredibly thorough with their findings, almost disturbingly so." Kaen just happened to be looking at a few photos when he said that, seemed Anbu documented everything, every... thing... "Seems Mukuro here used to be quite the scientist back in his day. He provided the Sunan government will all sorts of invaluable breakthroughs. But like most mortal men, he succumbed to the thirst for more, the thirst for power and became consumed with his work to the point of illegal genetic experimentation. Seems our government allowed it, for a time, as his contributions were to valuable to just throw away." Kaen continued to flip through the folder. "Some of the minor things are just that, minor. Drug charges, murder. But then he turned his eyes towards the children, the future of Sunagakure. These crimes were of a more... extreme illicit nature. Soon enough he was found out and decided to try out one last experiment. Didn't quite work out so well for him, as you can see. But he did somehow manage to increase his power a bit. Oh, he also happens to be a devout follower of Lord Jashin." Kaen walked back around and handed Suzume the folder before venturing over towards the doorway. He took up a post at the entrance and gazed out into the empty complex. "You can find more details inside, if you dare." Inside Suzume would find incredibly specific details to his crimes. The lesser ones for drugs wouldn't be much of an issue, but the murder counts might raise some interest. It wasn't murder per say, but the victims of his 'experiments' were in the hundreds. All dying from excruciatingly painful attempted body metamorphosis. Seems he was trying to create 'something' but the exact nature of the experiments solely rested in the mind of the bound man. If she ventured deeper into the folder she would discover his deeds in regards to the child sex ring in which he also partook in, often times the children would become yet another experiment, there were graphic photos clipped to each page of the individual victims.

Kaen turned around after he gathered she had seen enough. I'm sure you're asking yourself why, again. What is the reason behind this, why am I showing you this, telling you this. But I ask you, does the reason matter? Before you sits a man, a perverted disgusting man whos crimes are vast and horrific, as you saw. Yes I could have dispatched him myself, but what good does it serve me to just 'do my job'? No I think something more is required, a chance at retribution, not only for yourself but his countless victims. Tell me Suzume, do you believe that such people deserve to live out their lives in captivity? Sure they are behind bars, so to speak, but they live none the less while their victims are either dead or forever scarred. You know what it feels like," Kean gestured towards her arms where her scars laid. "your own life almost met the same fate as the rest in that folder."

Kaen stared at Mukuro before snapping his fingers to release the genjutsu that was keeping him sedated. He was groggy at first, still adjusting, trying to get his bearings. Kaen continued to speak as Mukuro came to. "The reason behind all this is that I saw something in you, something that cried out for greatness. But in my experience, greatness can never be achieved until you face your fears head on and take control." Mukuro's attention was grabbed as he finally realized where he was and who was in front of him. His eyes grew wide with fear as he saw Kaen, but narrowed and smiled as he saw Suzume. "So now I present to you this opportunity to exact vengeance on yourself and all the ones before you and the possible ones in the future. Will you seize this moment and control your fate, or shall you forever live in fear to such a pathetic waste of air? I will understand if you cannot bring yourself to do it, but all I can do is show you the way. This is your chance to ascend and become the vindicator." Kaen would again change his location and return to the open door. "This is your last chance, after this there is no turning back. You know what must be done, but will you do it? This is the moment, your chance to right the wrongs. You can choose to leave now and I will finish it and you go on living, the story ends. Or you use what you need from that bag there, or whatever else you are capable of and finish it yourself."

Suzume listened with trepidation as the man started through the file, unprepared to hear the depths of which it delved. She had figured him to be a bad man, he certainly had to be given what little she knew and what he had done, but she had never expected it to sink as deeply as it had. Inhuman experiments that the village was complicit with? Murder being taken as a minor charge? The abuse, violation and eventual murder of children even younger than she was? It was on the brink of being too extreme to be anything but a joke, but looking at the unconscious man, it all sank in as fact to her. A large part of her wanted to infuse this man with every last bit of evil and vileness that the world contained, to justify the horrible feelings that she had towards him. In other circumstances she would never admit to such, but the thought of him dead was succulent and alluring.

Not everything that he had read out made sense to her, however. She was not familiar with Lord Jashin, but she presumed him to be a noble of power somewhere within Wind Country, if not inside of the village itself. Then as she was handed the file, she began to skim through the pages. The pictures horrified her at first, but she could not bring herself to look away. She flipped page after page, image after image as he continued to speak. There were dozens of them, some horribly disfigured with expressions of silent agony and others simply bloodied and lifeless. Eventually she managed to look away, just long enough to peer at the creature with pure distilled disgust. Murder was horrific, but this? It took something far beyond that to even scratch the depths that this man dwelled in. Closing the individual case files, she read the front of the report, seeing his old incarceration and imprisoning date. He had been in prison once, and if he went back who was to say he would not escape once again?

The ANBU had become silent for a time as she read, but as soon as she slowly closed the file he began once again. She looked almost numb, her previous visage of fear and disgust almost completely submersed beneath a thick layer of numbed shock. Should he be allowed to return to captivity? Forced to live out an existence of suffering, yet with the possibility that he could one day regain his freedom, as he proved himself capable enough to do once before? The mere thought that he could once again roam free, no matter how remote, terrified her to her core. If he was ever free, she would suffer more than any of the others she had just seen, she knew it.

The snapping of his fingers to release Mukuro from his sleep startled Suzume from her stupor as well. She looked from him and followed his gaze to Mukuro who stirred once more, albeit slowly. She stared at him, the traces of fear returning as consciousness slowly took root in the maniac's murky mind. Greatness, she heard Kaen say as she continued to stare, she had greatness? She certainly did not feel great. Any sense of power seemed to fade from her as Mukuro looked from the ANBU to her, a sickly smile wringing on his face as he stared a lustful eye towards her. The gaze was broken as Kaen continued to speak, sapping the confidence from Mukuro as some of it slowly trickled back into Suzume. He proceeded to walk towards the door to stand guard, leaving Mukuro to his latest victim's whims.

Suzume took a moment to look from the prisoner, watching Kaen speak as he offered her the ultimatum. She could leave now and let Mukuro's fate be what it will, or take it into her own hands and do something about it. A lump formed in her throat as she slowly turned from him to peer back at the burnt and restrained Mukuro who seemed torn between pride and fear. He gave a firm pull against his restraints, but quickly found that his drained strength wouldn't be enough to free himself and with this collar on, one he knew too well, he could not tap into his bag of tricks to get free. He always knew this day would come, and he knew the only opportunity he had available to him. It was not perfected, and it was possible that it could kill him, but it was his only option that the desperate animal could see. He just had to wait for the right moment, or else that guard could get spooked and kill him before he even had a chance, he just had to make an opening.

Pulling himself together, he gave the girl a wide grin, the side of his cheek stung horribly from the burned flesh that reached just past his ear. "Couldn't stop thinking about me could you? Thinking of all the wonderful things we would do together." He licked his lips, narrowing his bulbous gaze towards her as he widened his perverse smile. Suzume visibly shivered from the insinuation, trying to keep herself from fleeing out into the hallway. "Oh, I could see it in your eyes. The forbidden thrill, it was intoxicating wasn't it? If you untie me, I'll make sure you get that good time that you've been dreaming about." He began to chuckle, ignoring the pain that coursed through his burnt and battered body. Pain was a sign of life, one that these two would be unable to enjoy for much longer, he simply needed that opening.

"Shut up!" Suzume yelled, trying to keep control of herself as a swirl of anger and fear wrestled for control over her.

"Or is it that man you got killed? If you didn't play so hard to get, he'd still be... whatever it was with that now widow of his." He was not sure what buttons to press, he just had to keep pressing until he got the results he needed. Sometimes you didn't have the right tool on hand, so you just had to brute force with the ones you had.

"I said shut up!" She yelled once again, her arms visibly shaking as she stepped forward to try and impose her meek will onto the helpless prisoner. The death of that man was not always part of her nightmares, but when it was the guilt came strong with it. Logicially she knew she had no blame to share in that, but if she were not in that alley, playing shinobi, that stranger wouldn't be dead. Seeing that her idle threats were having no effect, she rushed over to the bag and pulled out the first thing she found: a standard-issue kunai. "Now!" she yelled, likely looking to Kaen as if she had no real control over the situation.

He stuck out his tongue and made a show of slowly licking his dry lips. Maybe he just needed to jab a little deeper. "Or maybe you want to be the big tough top, you really seemed like you wanted to be the big proud shinobi back then." He gave her a sly wink, "I don't normally, but I guess I could give an exception to such a pathetically adorable little girl like y-" His words were interrupted by a cry of pain as she rushed forward and jammed the kunai straight down into his leg. The pain was succulent, delicious and very distracting, but he couldn't get distracted. Wincing away, her bit his teeth hard and snapped one of his canines in half from the force of the bite. Quickly, he swallowed the fragment before his jailers could notice. He had implanted a small amount of one of his old compounds into that fake half-tooth just in case of something like this. He had not used it in the prison, as he knew he had the means to escape there, but time was not in his favor with his impending execution.

Suzume held the hilt of the kunai with both hands, pressing down on it as he reeled with pain. An electric current surged through it into his leg causing it to kick out, nearly striking her in the process. Stumbling back from avoiding the reflex, she gasped for air, looking confused as if something had wrested control of her body and forced her to stab the man. At least it worked, he seemed to shut up for the moment, but the demons were already stirred inside of her head. He was just trying to rile her up, probably so she would just kill him and get it over with. Well, if that was what the bastard wanted, there was no way she was going to give it to him. "Y-Yeah! How is that!" Again she tried to sounds threatening, but she had stabbed a man before and the adrenaline was flowing though unfamiliar grounds.

Mukuro jerked as the fragment went down his throat into his stomach. Luckily it didn't get stuck. He only needed maybe a minute for it to start working, it had been quite a long while since he concocted the fake-tooth he was not entirely sure it was still chemically active. "Y-you, bitch!" He grunted out, his leg twitching from the surge of electricity through it as blood seeped from the deep stab wound. He only wished he could make them suffer, but Lord Jashin would just have to get over their deaths being too quick. "So high and mighty with your statue protector. Why don't you come over here and say it right to the face that cut that pretty little body of yours up!" He had to get her close, long enough for her to serve as a shield when the transformation occurred. Otherwise he was a clear target for that guard to kill him before he broke free and crushed both their skulls.

Even on the best of days, Suzume was a creature of impulse, and while she was committed to fighting this abomination to his last breath, she couldn't see an obvious ploy if it came and grabbed her in the throat. She looked over to Kaen, fear and hate in her eyes as she commanded, "don't move." It was an obvious ruse, even if he was completely restrained. There was a good chance that Kaen would let her die should it come to that, not out of spite but to let the girl learn her lessons on her own. The death part would be an unfortunate side-effect of learning that lesson. She spun to look back to Mukuro and stomped her way over to him, calling his threat and meeting it head on. "Y-you are going to regret what yo-!"

Suzume's words were interrupted as a surge of strength in Mukuro's arm broke his hand free from the cords that bound it. It was already twice as thick as the chemicals flowed through his veins, which bulged out from the skin as the rapidly growing muscles stretched it to its limits. Before she even knew what happened, his hand gripped around her throat and squeezed it. The change was far too slow. Had he made it in a lap yesterday it would have worked twice as fast with twice as potent of results, he would have popped her head like a grape within moments. Weakened from malnutrition, his bodily damage and the lessened effects of his trump card all combined together to keep the girl alive for just a few moments longer. It coursed through his body, surging his muscles as they expanded and pulled against his bonds, the collar around his neck straining just to keep from breaking from the force.

Choking, Suzume's eyes went wide as she suddenly knew the danger she was in. Her hands flailed trying to claw at the man's ripped arm, its skin tearing from the explosive increase in muscle mass. He squeezed hard on her neck and pulled, trying to use her as a shield to block him from Kaen's view for just long enough to rip his other arm free from the bonds. Now face to face with the mutating monstrosity, the muscles in his face bulging at inconsistent intervals as he gave her that sickeningly satisfied grin, rife with pain that it was. Suzume's eyes began to glow a bright neon, as if her squeeze somehow lit them up. Terror streamed along with electrified chakra through her body as blood almost completely stopped flowing through her neck from the immense pressure.

Desperate, she reached out and grabbed onto the man's head to try and fight for freedom. With one hand on each side of his head, electricity surged though her palms into the monster's skull. The collar around his neck snapped from the pressure, but it did him little good. His body convulsed rapidly and his grip on her neck released as he lost control of his appendages. Even as he let go, she did not, in fact she stumbled forward and gripped onto him harder, seeing the effects of such a large amount of electricity going through the man's skull as his eyes bulged even harder, fear and agony twisting his expression as his genius brain cooked from the inside out. Desperately, he tried to reach for her or push her away, but it ultimately failed as death quickly came upon him. The smell of burning hair and flesh began to quickly fill the room as almost every bit of strength she had funneled itself into him. His limbs fell lifeless to his side, twitching occasionally from remnants of electricity that equalized itself throughout his corpse.

Taking the first breath in what felt like forever, Suzume pulled her hands back from the man's scalp, some the smoking bits coming with it. The damage to her larynx was not life threatening, but she still had to gasp painfully for air as she reached to her own throat, blood and bits dropping from them as she worked more on autopilot than any conscious motions. She collapsed backwards away from the dead man, his body having stopped its mutation with the blood no longer pumping the toxins through his body. His outsides aptly resembled the man he was inside, a mutated and hideous amalgamation of malformed muscles and flesh. Suzume could do nothing but clasp at her own throat, as if trying to pull away the crushing sensation that had been strangling her mere moments before as she stared up at the lifeless body.

Suzume's cry jolted Kaen from his near day-dream like state near the front door. He had been haphazardly gazing into the sky for no real apparent reason. It felt like he was missing from this moment in time for could be weeks. But alas it had only been a few seconds before the world came crashing back into reality. Again Suzume yelled, Kaen's gaze would fixate on her, watching her every move. Mukuro seemed to be goading the little girl on, just as he would assume someone of his position would. Make her lose her focus, get into her head. These were the lame tactics of a desperate man thinking he was still preying upon the weak. But Suzume's choice made her different than all the rest. She was not weak, she would not sit idly by while someone like this lived. "Now!" Yet again Suzume would try and assert herself and gain that command presence as she held that kunai within her grasp. She looked to Kaen as if she were not really in control at all. While that may have been half true, Kaen would give her a reassuring nod regardless.

But Mukuro was persistent in his attempts to provoke Suzume, furthering his perverted notions. You have to wonder if he truly believed he could convince her to let him go, laughable really. But then suddenly he was cut off and a surge of power exuded outwards from Suzume. Quite frankly Kaen didn't think she possessed such energy for someone as young as her. What happened next would surprise him, he shouldn't have been but he was. Call it a lack of personal experience or perhaps just complacency. But something was happening, Kaen could feel it. The two would continue at each other for a few moments longer before his instincts kicked in and he prepared for the worst. Mukuro's body was beginning to undergo a metamorphic change within at an alarming rate. Kaen was sure he could best him in combat, but Mukuro knew this as well and would surely opt to flee back to Sunagakure instead. Kaen's own eyes looked hesitant when she looked at him for support once more. Kaen paused a moment and rushed just outside the room and erected a large barrier, a specialty of the Anbu. (Black Blockade) Sadly Suzume might perish within the confines of this barrier, but if it meant that this lunatic would not escape into the general public, so be it.

After his barrier was complete, Kaen would rush back inside to witness the horror. Mukuro's transformation was nearing completion while his grasp was firmly wrapped around Suzume's neck. "Fuck!" Kaen began to formulate some seals, but before he could fumble through any of them a loud and thunderous noise echoed throughout the small room. Had his barrier not been erected, surely the denizens of Suna would have heard Suzume's war cry. The spike of power that Suzume released was astonishing to say the least. Such raw energy without even a single hand sign, it was exactly what Kaen was hoping would come about. Suzume's electrifying grip on the gruesome heap of sizziling monster flesh was loosened and she began to fall backwards. Kaen casually rushed forward to catch her and place her gently on the ground. Her breathing was ragged, most likely her throat was partially crushed from the monstrous strength of Mukuro. Kaen would reach into his pouch and reveal a sealed scroll. With it he would heal Suzume's throat, courtesy of the medic ninja of Suna. "Give it a few moments to do its work, you should be able to speak after a few minutes." Kaen would stand back up from his kneeling position next to Suzume and gaze at the thing that was once Mukuro. Shaking his head he would pull out another scroll and whip through a series of signs before the scroll would suck Mukuro in and sealing him till Kaen would release his body to HQ. He would turn back to Suzume who was still in a daze upon the floor. "You did well today, your future will forever benefit from the events that transpired today." Kaen would turn around and hold a hand outwards and down for her to grab so he might help her up. "This is something that probably isn't heard enough these days, but..." As Kaen lifted her to her feet, he would place a hand on her shoulder. "Not everyone could have done what you just did, few posses the strength or even the courage to perform such feats. You should be proud of yourself, Mother Suna knows I am..." Kaen would then release the energy that bound his Black Blockade to this realm and it slowly closed in on itself to let the sunlight back in.

deathly-hallows-part-2-stone-knights.jpg

It seemed like in the darkness and in the cold the twins would be having there fun, they had been dormant for so long now it seemed that there slumber had finally been brought to an end in the passing of noise, of the breath in the air, in the warm body heat that irradiated from the situation, they were here to have a play time and they would make sure they had there fun, the two dormant statues sat idol for now, in the corridors in the dim lit rooms that they had called home there was someone in their eyes trespassing and that would be considered unacceptable.

“Brother do you consider them as pure creatures or are they damaged. I want to know what they need to be found, they have stepped into mistress’s home and it seems that they were not invited. This place is not for those with the faint heart.”

“I agree sister, let us open the doors and see if they walk in, I want to know what type or person they are. I want to see them with my own eyes, let them walk into this hall and see what curiosity they find, after all there is that saying. Curiosity killed the Cat.”

“Indeed Brother”

It seemed that the statues were already planning something the abandoned place was not so abandoned anymore. The wall crumbled with the sound that echoed through the air as far as distance could be considered it would attract the attention of both news comers to this place. The hallway held all the statures of warriors the question was as soon as they entered this maze would they find what they were looking for. In here the past and the present meant nothing, the future meant nothing and actions outside had no meaning. The game was all that mattered, and the game had opened up its doors to two more new comers inside of it.

As the sun crested just over the peak of noon, the atmosphere of the room would also come to a climax. Tensions would subside and Kaen's black blockade would dissipate. The resulting barrage of the sun's rays of warm light invaded the small, ill lit room that the pair currently were occupying. The warmth was surely a welcoming feeling for the ,surely, exhausted Suzume. What appeared to be a simple ending of their affairs would soon rear it's ugly, yet curious, head as something echoed throughout the complex in the Sunan desert. Instinct took over and in an instant Kaen had summoned and adorned his Anbu attire. The sudden change of clothing and his relative posture would surely worry the younger Suzume. Surely she heard the noise as well, it was in the distance, but not terribly far. It couldn't have originated more than a few rooms away.

It appeared they were not alone here today, they needed to investigate but couldn't leave the body unattended. "Did you hear that?" Kaen, garbed in his Anbu attire, glanced outside the room to be sure nobody was coming. "Help me with the body." His voice was quick and commanding with a hint of worry. This wasn't exactly an official mission and the consequences for such an event were severe. Kaen would pull out a rather large scroll and laid it out on the ground. Kaen would gesture for Suzume to grab one end, didn't matter which, and help carry him over the scroll. Afterwards he would weave some signs and the body would disappear in a poof of smoke leaving only a detailed sealed scroll. "Alright, we need to leave, now. Follow me..." Kaen would urge Suzume to follow him out of the room and outside. Once there he would turn back towards the door and placed his hands on Suzume's shoulders and gently forced her behind him. "Need to clean up before we leave." Kaen would then take an exaggerated deep breath while simultaneously weaving hand signs. The temperature suddenly rose to extreme levels as Kaen violently exuded a wave of flames from his razor sharp maw. The flames enveloped the entirety of the room, destroying any evidence that might have remained. "I'm going to scout out that noise, can't have any loose ends running about. You are free to head back to the village, but it might be safer for you to stick with me." With that he would make his way towards the general area in which the sound came from.

It was difficult to pin point the location of the ruckus, but in time Kaen would spot the caved in section of a most peculiar hallway. "That's strange..." Kaen would start, his voice trailing off in confusion and curiosity. Should his young female companion inquire as to what he meant, he would elaborate. "It's just... This hallway wasn't here before. I've scoured this outpost thoroughly, for personal reasons, and I can tell you without a doubt that this hallway was not here before." I would like to tell you that this was eerie or completely outside the realms of normal, but in this day and age you just have to take these things as they come as they are far more common than you would think, at least in Kaen's life. The paranormal and strange were never out of reach from his day to day life. Though something did feel off about the general aura of the area. The vibe felt... otherworldly. "I know what they said about the cat, but I still think we should investigate. You're practically an adult, after today's events anyway, how do you think we should proceed?" Sure of her answer, he would ready himself to enter the long, strange hallway. Once she gave the suggestion to enter, Kaen would nod and lead the way cautiously. "Be prepared for anything, I might feel bad if I you ended up dying. That and covering up a random citizen's death is not something I wish to spend my time doing for the remainder of my week." What may have sounded like annoyance was merely Kaen's lame attempt at sarcasm and jokes. But she should still be careful, death was still a possibility, especially around Kaen.

[OOC MFT]

Sleep, that was all Suzume wanted right now. Her throat hurt less due to Kaen's aid, but her mind felt blissfully numb. For the first time in her life, her mind was truly a blank as she rested against the wall of the room, only a few paces away from the corpse of that abomination. She only barely noticed the rumbling coming from elsewhere in the facility, and it was only when Kaen came to abrupt attention and summoned his ANBU attire that her mind began to slowly grind the rust away from its gears. At first she did not answer Kaen as he spoke to her, and even after he commanded her to assist him with the corpse she had just made, it would take another louder command before her body finally managed to pick itself off the floor to comply.

She wasn't fully aware of what she was doing, lifting the leg up as best she could manage and helping to drag the body over top the scroll like it was a thick rug. Still dazed, she half-stumbled her way after him as he exited the room and purged it of all the organic material inside with a quick wave of intense heat. Distantly she was aware of the uncomfortable heat, but still her mind didn't fully register the events as they transpired, opting to blindly follow after him as hurriedly made his way deeper into the facility after the noise. Eventually they made their way to the source of the noise, but with it being her first time hear, she would have never known the disturbance. "Huh?" she asked, staring blankly into the hole into the wall, sounding as if she were daydreaming in class rather than violating a dozen village protocols.

When Kaen finally turned to her, apparently looking to her for guidance, a notion that seemed completely foreign to her, she blankly said, "look around?" as if it were the answer to the question that he had asked. With the question answered correctly, Kaen offered more advice to the girl as he led the way inside, Suzume following closely there after. Once inside, her eyes began to wander, looking towards the walls, the statues and everything else inside as she attempted to piece her brain back together and her reality along with it. Perhaps for Kaen's benefit, she even seemed to miss his terrible attempt at a joke, given the events that had transpired only a few minutes ago. After a few moments, she once again spoke up, "where are we?" Her words were still airy and dazed, but her eyes had focused more and the strange feeling that the area had only served to further confuse the girl.

It seemed that the two of them had found the entrance the twin statues looked towards each other with a sinister smile on there stone faces, the foots echoed and crashed around the room as they moved into a position the columns around the room each had a statue in front of them in total the columns came to ten, an even number but only two of them were alive and filled with the joy that the game was now underway. It seemed that things had started and the task for both was about to begin, it was a challenge and it was something that they had to find the answer to.

“It has begun brother let us have our fun, let us see if they choose your door or my door that will be the interesting question won’t it. I can see them being tempted by mine after all I try to make sure that its more enticing than yours.”

“Sister you will lose this first test, but there will be another two that they will have to face the question is how far they will go in the name of exploring and trying to see this to the end.”

It seemed that the two statues stood silent, weapons in their hands and they looked like the pose of the knights from old time. The two of them waited patiently they where the final door and there was a dark and twisted path before them to even get there, that was down to the way they travelled and the challenges that came to each of them. Though they knew what was in store the unsuspecting Shinobi would have to find that out the harder way, the way that had been planned and prepared it was clear that this trap had been laid out in advance.

Both of them would see a corridor, candle lights would erupt with the flickering flames from each side of the walls leading all the way down, it was a long tunnel with a small decline, leading them to the path that split into two. Two doors and each one had symbols on it. The first door illuminated with purple glow, the single sign that was etched into the door was a clear one.

‘Puzzles’

The door beside it was the opposite a deep blue irradiated from almost a runic patter inside of the door it was simple again like the other, both doors looked identical in the way they glowed, and the only difference was the wording that was on the door.

‘Strength’

These doors seemed to be posing a challenge to anyone that came near them, the question is which they would choose, would they select to go threw the same door together or would they split up, this was when the funs would begin the challenges would start. And the true depths of there very soul would be weighed in the set of scales to see what comes of them.

As if the pair had tripped a hidden wire or a sensor of some sort, the hallway sparked to life and a plethora of candles erupted and illuminated their path. As the hallway extended further into the unknown, its path had a slight gradient downward and onward. Their footsteps lightly echoed off of the damp and dank walls, just how far did this thing go? "Well it's hard to say." Kaen responded to Suzume, a hint of incertitude upon his lips. "I've never seen this place before, the entire structure feels... old. I don't really know how else to put it, just be careful ok?" Kaen refocused his attention forward, something was quickly approaching as they grew nearer.

The path split in twine, each respective path was blocked by a door of some sort and upon each of them a strange symbol. Kaen lightly traced his fingers across the surface of the door that illuminated a soft hue of purple. A single raised brow sprouted on his face, clearly this was some sort of secret dungeon, most likely filled to the brim with traps and monsters like the moving picture shows sometimes depict. Hell I bet there is treasure at the end of it all, that or certain doom. "Well I hate to break it to ya kid, I don't think we can go back." Kaen moved to the second door with 'strength' engraved upon the surface. "Somehow we discovered some strange dungeon designed to test us in some fashion. But I can't know for certain, not until we go through one of these doors." Kaen glanced back at his small compatriot, weariness, fatigue and just a general lack of 'life' was written all over her. Seemed the event from earlier was still taking its toll on her. Perhaps whatever laid behind the strength door might not be the best for her and he wasn't sure how well he could protect her. A soft smile slowly spread under his mask as he reached over and patted her on the head. "Don't worry, I'll get us out of here in piece, let's go this way..." Kaen's smile faded as soon as he turned away from her, in truth he had no clue where they were and what would lie ahead. There was no real guarantee he could keep her alive, but a little positive reinforcement wouldn't hurt, certainly telling her that death was possible would do her no good. With a deep breath Kaen would push open the door that read 'Puzzles', hoping for the best.

Hearing that her protector and escort was not familiar with this, given that he was the one to have brought her to the facility in the first place, did not inspire confidence in the drained child. Life was slowly seeping back into her, the recent memories of murdering that abomination fading, if only for the moment, as she tried to make sense of the strange walkways that Kaen led her down. She had to resist the urge to toy with one of the self-lighting candles as they made their way down, her curiosity nearly earning her a singed finger before realizing that Kaen had made it nearly out of her sight. Hastily, she scampered back up behind him, just in time to catch sight of the twin doors.

The colored illumination was entrancing, and she found herself drawn to their eldritch glow. She never moved past Kaen, and didn't seem to pay him much attention until he moved away from the Strength door and over towards the one marked Puzzle. Her hand reached up and brushed against the words, not fully thinking as to what was going on, simply letting herself be lost in the moment. Her trance was broken as he suddenly put his hand on her head, earning him only the faintest of tingles as the electricity in her body slowly regenerated itself. Seemingly unable to break her gaze from the door, she eventually relented and looked over towards him as he made his way towards the other door. "Y...yeah, okay." Suzume didn't sound entirely convinced, but she would follow in after him, her attention affixed towards the purple door as Kaen moved to open it and make his way inside.

It seemed that the one door that they were both stood in front of swung open, the dust slowly fell to the ground as the opening showed itself, the two parts of the door swung inwards. It seemed that they where walking down a road that they had walked, there was nothing wrong with that. They had dug the whole that they now had to lie in. Now the chance to prove themselves to everyone, well by the eyes that were watching. It seemed that in the room was three tables, each one had a question on them and a different colour illuminating form the base of the table.

The room was a huge room, the floor was made of pure marble. There where eight columns four on each side, in front of them where flames flickering in lamps that hung mid-way down them to illuminate the way. Each of the three pillar tables that stood silent, one green, one grey and one orange the illuminations flickered from them it was as if the shadows where moving but no-one was around to make the shadows move. When they finally got closer they would see that there was a few questions on each of the table.

The table with the green illumination would read across of it with the following riddle, it was simple enough for them to answer but the question was would they be able to understand what the correct answer would be as the room stood silent.

If you have me, you want to share me. If you share me, you haven't got me. What am I?

The grey illumination on the pillar would hold the second one it was just like before a question that wanted to be answered. It would need to be done before they would be able to move forward and see what the answer was going to be.

What can you catch but not throw?

The last one the orange lightning keeping it in eye sight of the two of them was plain as day though it was still there to solve, they had picked this path of puzzles and would not be the ones to see it threw for better or worse in this situation.

When is a man drowned, but still not wet?

The door at the end of the room stayed closed, it seemed that they would have to figure out the answers before they would be able to progress out of this room. Being watched by someone or something it was still not clear what controlled this place at all. The real question that they had was why the exit was now closing, behind them the opening that had appeared sealed itself shut, it seemed that the only way for them to go now was forward. They would have to face the challenges that were thrown to them and these puzzles where just the start of that for the two of them. It was now time to see if they would pass the first trial.

The dust that fell as the chosen doorway parted spoke of this place's ancient origin. It was obvious that nobody had tread along these dank hallways for many many years. As Kaen and Suzume entered the next room he could only take in everything in awe as everything was so colorful, artistic and just generally beautiful. A long room opened up before them and revealed this mysterious place's next surprise. "Careful with your footing, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some sort of old booby traps still active, I'm gonna check out those pedestals." Kaen gave a small warning as he approached the 3 riddles engraved in marble. As he stepped onto the main walkway for this new room, the door in which they entered closed behind them. "Well it looks we're not going out the same way we came in, here come here for a second." As he stood in the center of the room, he beckoned Suzume over to him.

reaching into a hidden pocket he would pull out some tablets sealed in plastic. "This isn't going to taste good, but who knows how long we're going to be down here. Two people stand a better chance of leaving than just me alone, so you need to stay alive for me, ok?" Kaen ripped open the package and handed a few of the 'meal tablets' to Suzume. Afterwards he would weave a few signs together and a steady stream of water exuded from his hands. "You're supposed to add water, this is as good as we're going to get I think." This was slightly abnormal behavior for Kaen as he wouldn't normally be so kind to a stranger. Perhaps it was the investment that lied within Suzume that urged him to help her this far, perhaps it was a rare glimmer of his humanity breaching the surface of his persona. Either way he would do what he could to ensure her survival, at least through this dungeon.

Afterwards, Kaen would approach the three dolor differentiated pedestals and read each of them aloud, starting with the green one. "If you have me, you want to share me. If you share me, you haven't got me. What am I?" He pondered for a moment before moving on to the next and then the final one. Reading them aloud didn't really seem to help him understand any of them any better, perhaps the strength door would have been a better choice. After reading the final inscription, Kaen turned to his female partner in this dungeon crawling adventure. "Well It seems like we have some riddles to answer, pretty simple and straight forward.I havent a clue as to the first one, but I think disease would be a favorable answer to what you can catch. The final one is painfully obvious if you live around Wind Country, it has to be quicksand. We have to be sure though, there's no telling what misfortune will befall us should we answer wrong. What do you think?"

Following in Kaen's shadow, Suzume only caught sight of the colorful lamps a few moments after Kaen had done the same. The room looked surreal, the textured white of the smooth floor and the columns being illuminated by flickering colors left her with a strange feeling. Heedless of her guide's words, she continued to slowly walk forward towards the center of the room, her eyes following vague shapes conjured by the mixture of the dancing lights. The sensation was a peculiar mix between that of wonder and paranoia, with her vision seeming to catch sight of dark figures popping up at the corners of her vision, only to flee once centered. The figures were only that, paranoia, but- The sound of the door behind them suddenly slamming shut caught Suzume off guard, and she stumbled as she spun to see what the noise was.

Her heart raced from the shock, and while she looked around the door and then the rest of the room. she saw no immediate sign of danger. Sight of the ANBU looking relatively unalarmed helped to calm her nerved enough to slowly turn back to him, following him to the center as he had requested. "W-what's up?" She asked, her voice still shaken from the earlier scare as he fished out the tablets for them. With a confused look, she took the ones he offered and examined them curiously. She had never had to eat anything such as these, but now was not the time to be picky. She put one of them in her mouth and slipped the other few into a pocket, quickly cupping her hand to accept some of the water he produced. "Is... it safe to drink?" It was a foolish question, and she knew such as soon as she spoke it. Suzume quickly took the tablet and as much of the water as she could get from her cupped hand to her mouth. The urge to spit it out nearly overtook her good sense as it both dissolved and swelled in her mouth. He certainly didn't lie. Suzume managed to force the bland and yet offending feeling food table in her mouth, sticking her tongue out in a half attempt to somehow rid herself of the taste.

The fact that Kaen was helping and providing for her didn't seem out of place in the slightest to the sheltered girl. She had been sheltered and protected all of her life, seen as a small helpless runt that needed constant protection from her bigger and stronger clansmen. She rebelled against the thought of being protected, but she still fell naturally into the role, having it drilled into her mind from a very young age. In fact, she might have been dumbfounded and even a little betrayed if he hand't assumed the role, though if anyone were to point such out to her, she quickly would have protested the notion.

Scraping the taste off her tongue with her teeth the best she could, Suzume wandered up beside Kaen to read the etched riddles herself. She listened to him, a sinking feeling consuming her but as the notion of a trained ANBU not being able to figure them out. They were supposed to be the best the village had to offer, and these were confusing even them? What hope did she have to solve what he couldn't? Letting off a sigh, she turned and read off the first one. An epiphany hit her and she smiled triumphantly, "stuff!" Suzume suddenly proclaimed as she looked over towards him. "You know, like the tablet you gave me. You shared it with me, and now you don't have the tablet anymore... even if I kinda wish you did." Thinking about it only made the foul taste resurface on her tongue, leading to a shiver of annoyance down her spine.

She stepped over to the second and read it as well. Riding the high on her first discovery, she quickly blurted out, "yeah! That makes total sense. Like a cold or something." Colds were not something very frequently referred to in the heat of the desert, even underground, but somehow the saying 'catch a cold' had stuck and she had heard it more that a few times from her overprotective parents.

Suzume slid by Kaen, who might have impressed or skeptical, likely due in no small part by her sudden confidence in her answers, especially given her earlier meek demeanor. Scooting over to the last riddle, she read it to herself and nodded with assured enthusiasm. "Yup, that makes sense!" She had never been caught in one, mostly due to a lack of exploration in the areas around Sunagakure, but she had heard of the things. She proceeded to turn towards Kaen and given him an affirmative, and potentially a little inspiring, nod of approval. "See, we got this! No problem at all!"
