[col3]In ancient times, the Old Gods watched over Tsuchi no Kuni with diligence and wisdom. The people were blessed, and given the highest level of protection. So long as one did not stray from their path of devotion, they would be in fruitful health, and guarded with enlightened security. However, over several generations, the people became corrupted. The Old Gods turned from their people, and gave up hope. No longer would a God or Goddess directly intervene in the ways of their people. Though, many gave up hope, and have since forgotten and spurn the Old Gods, the people of Iwagakure, still hold strong to their faith.|Much time had passed before there was a shift in the balance. The Old Gods saw the return of their peoples’ faith, but they could not return. Instead, they chose strong individuals from the village, and blessed them in their name. These people would train under the guided wisdom of the Gods, but it would not be direct. These people became known as “Guardians”, or protectors of the people. Some Guardians may not even follow in the religious teachings or belief in these beings, but that does not mean they have not been selected.|Before the return of the faith, the village took on a more modern system of security known throughout the world. People who address themselves as ANBU. And while not selected by the Divine, they are still highly skilled warriors. As the Guardians rose, they fulfilled the same purpose as ANBU, leading to a merger of the two. Both factions act in accordance as the security, protectors, and covert operation specialists of Iwagakure.[/col3]

As such, they are referred to by different names. The naming proceedures are as follows. Please Note: You will register as either a Guardian OR an ANBU, not both. Read the description to figure out what suits you best.

Guardians
Guardians are the protectors of the village that are believed to be chosen warriors of the Old Gods. They often work closely with the Shamans and instil hope and guidance to the villagers, alongside protecting them, but may undertake situations of darker proportions as well for the safety of the village. Guardians not only guard the people, but also claim a 'title' similar to their fighting skill, personality, something they like, ect to be addressed as. Often times, when on the job, or in the company of other ANBU/Guardians they go by this title, though it's also been seen used in casual settings. This is a reflection that they have earned their ascention to Guardianship. (Anyone of ANBU Rank or Higher will take a name.)

ANBU
ANBU are members of the village that have taken on the newer method of stealth training and covert training. Though a less popular method in the village, these are still highly skilled warriors, respected in their own light, but are believed to have no been selected by the Old Gods as their warriors. There ranks are relatively the same as the Guardians, but they tend to stick more closely to the shadows when undergoing training. ANBU do not take the same name as Guardians, and are recognized as they would be in other village. All ANBU will take on a 'call sign' with which they will be addressed by when serving any kind of business matter. (Anyone of ANBU Rank or Higher will take a Name.)
