Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Busy. Busy was one word that could always describe a hospital. If it wasn't, then there would be peace in the world...maybe. In a fairly filled lobby made up of the old and young, Kagari sat there bored. Most of the children hogged the cards and board games in the corner, and it'd be a bit awkward if he walked over and tried to join in. Most of the other surrounding him were either talking or not in the mood for talking. Kagari sighed and laid into the slightly uncomfortable chair, waiting for his name to be called for a check-up. It was a formality really, he knew he was healthy and ready for duty. His "vacation" in Cloud wasn't exactly peaceful, between the underground sewer mission with Ruin and the fox business in the mountains; he knew he was still physically fit. Mentally...maybe not. Still reeling from the fact that what seemed like a day somewhere else, he had gone missing for an entire year had made him paranoid and anxious since he came back. With the news of the war and a certain woman decided to mess with him weighed on his mind. So he has not got enough sleep the past few days. The search for his mother has not been as easy as he hoped it would be.

He went first to their old apartment, it was empty, it seemed she had moved out a long time ago. Ownership of the building changed hands so there weren't any records of where she moved to next, and the owner was pretty very apathetic to help a teenager look for his "mommy".So he continued his search but so far it had not yielded any results. Grand Palais was too crowded, so the search would take days; maybe even weeks. Kagari needed a place to stay as that apartment wasn't exactly an option anymore, so he stayed in a motel closer to the main hub of the city. It let him stay close to the centre, making his travels to the districts and using certain services easier

Which brought him here to Omni Prime, if he got the checkup then maybe Tenken would be nice enough to let him ask the intel team on his mother's last known whereabouts. But that was a last resort, he had one more person he could see.

He watched the clock tick by, waiting for his name to be called. It did at least give him time to relax, so he slowly...slowly drifted to sleep. Just for a little bit.

The seven-foot tall blond strode down the hospital halls as if he owned the place. As he passed by both staff and patient, more often than not, he’d get looks from women ranging from hostile to lust and about half the same from men, yet the good doctor did little to think on it as he whistled a tune he had heard on the walk to work. His normal luscious locks were tied tight against the crown of his head in a bun with a single pen holding it together and a second he would pull out every now and again to jot something down in his notes as he strode. He was wearing the typical cranberry colored scrubs of the hospital with what appeared to be a sort of cloak wrapped around his neck. On further inspection it was a beat up old lab coat and why the doctor choose to continue to wear it, and in that fashion, was a mystery to everyone but himself and a handful of family.

It was a busy day and with the looming shadow of doom stretching its hand over the village and his job was only getting harder as folks began a light panic. It was a vibe in the air that you could feel now and the memories of the Cabal, at least for the general public, were starting to refresh. Tama had already been given the pleasure of trying to talk a few of the old guard that had survived the last attack. Nearly all of them were too injured to fight back and paranoid as hell; there was only so much he had to prescribe for anxiety.
Yet non of the stress that would show on a regular human seem to affect him at all. One would even dare say that he was enjoying the pressure of keeping human lives in check regardless of how much work was piled on him. His stride finally stopped by the Nurse Station, a circular high-walled monstrosity that took up most of the room in the large circular space that served as a hub to the patient rooms. Without looking up from his clipboard the doctor slid the glass window that separated patient and nurse and stuck his hand through. Without a word a heavy chart was placed in it and he flipped it open without pulling it through, for legal reasons, and quickly scanned the names in the waiting room. His eyes then switched over to the clock standing up on the desk behind the nurse he was bothering and calculated how much time he had before his ER shift started.

Eeeey, I gots time. Nurse, go ‘n ahead ‘n call back Mr. Toshiwakai to room….#323, ‘n make sure to send ‘n orderly to prep eet dis time! Don’t be needin’ another Mrs. Takaewa on our hands for tha’ next ‘our…

The nurse, hefty in her size and just as stern in her method, gave Dr. Ryuu a well deserved glare. He knew damn well that it wasn’t her fault and that was just the blues of shift relief, but, she’d only have to deal with him for another forty-five minutes; then his ass would be in the ER. Looking down at her little panel of nobs and switches the nurse flicked on the intercom to the Front Desk and asked for the receptionist to send in Kagari.
The room he’d be lead back to, once he had woken up, was small and functional. In one corner was a bed, adjacent to that a sink, and between the two a single chair. A set of cabinets loomed above the sink no doubt containing sheets, bandages, and other quick grab things a doctor could use to get the information they needed to cure. Shortly after Kagari sat down, wherever, the nurse checked his blood pressure, temp, and pulse before jotting them all down. She claimed the doctor would be in shortly and before she could finish the sentence the seven-foot blonde was already ducking his head to step in.

Doc’ter Ryuu,” Tama said with a hand held out in greeting, “Whats can I do fer you today, Mr. Toshiwakai?

"Excuse me, sir..." Kagari stirred slightly from his brief nap, opening his eyes slowly to a waiting nurse. "Excuse me Mr. Toshiwakai, the doctor will see you now. Please follow me." Damnit, he was just starting to fall asleep to. He nodded and got up gingerly from his seat. He stretched a bit, shaking off any tire exhaustion he had on his limbs. Rounding the corner in the clean hallways, he made his way to his assigned room.

He could hear murmurs in the hallway, it seems most of the staff were uneasy. Preparation for war was never easy, it always put people on edge for the coming battle. While he knew most of the staff here would probably not be on the battlefield, they all felt the same apprehension. The nurse that was leading him seemed to be a bit uneasy, maybe it was her first time to try to figure out how to deal with all this.

She opened the door and prompted Kagari to sit on the bed in the corner. It was a stereotypical medical exam room; white walls, a couple of cabinets and a single bed with a white sheet of thin paper covering it. From there it was fairly basic; the nurse took his pulse, checked his ear canal, and mouth. He was as healthy as one 19-year old could be. Once she was done, she told him that the doctor would be in shortly.

Shortly it was as a tall man ducked his head through the door and stood at full height inside. He was a tall...tall man, probably the tallest person Kagari had seen in the village. "Doc’ter Ryuu,” He introduced himself. “Whats can I do fer you today, Mr. Toshiwakai?” He extended his hand for a handshake which Kagari promptly returned. The man had an accent he hadn't heard in the inner cities of Grand Palais. Was he from one of the outer areas in The Wind Country?

"Afternoon Doctor. I'm here just for a standard checkup as...requested by my Captain." Kagari spoke, sounding a bit disgruntled. "I need to do this before returning to active duty."

A shinobi.

While it wasn’t something Tama considered odd to be doing another physical and mental check on their military personal, it was becoming some-what tedious. The battery of tests he would need to run would easily be keeping the man here for the better part of the day. Inwardly, though he would never drop his bedside manner, the scientist cursed himself for the luck of drawing a short straw.
With a curt not and smile at the youth the giant strode over to the door and lifted a small vanilla folder from a simple plastic holder drilled into the all beside the frame and flipped it open. His eyes scanned down the list of things he needed to prepare for and gave a short sigh. On top of the regular tests the file had all the secret marks that led the doctor to believe his patient was a member of their Black Ops. Yet, all in all, what was needed was to make sure the man was able to enter combat safely among his peers, yes?
While it was probably a rather unorthodox method of doing things the scientist knew exactly what he needed to do. In Tama’s defense, he really did only have about half an hour until his next shift started. With the way some of addicts had been acting the number of domestic violence cases were started to skyrocket under the looming stress. It was paramount that the doctor be in the ER so that his hands could continue to heal the lesser that were being overlooked; yet obviously the military came first.

Closing his hand the folder’s contents were shut back inside and returned to the plastic bin,
A moment,” he asked of Kagari before stepping out of the room and closing the door behind him. Once he did the doctor focused his attention on the door keeping his focus on it and the man behind it. Both of his arms dropped to his sides before slowly raising themselves causing the very air to vibrate around him. An invisible energy of his chakra formed into a liquid like mass before his feet and slid underneath the wood.

The invisible mass of energy would then slowly collect itself and form into a person. The person in question would be whoever the man inside considered most important. It could have been the Kazekage, a family member, a lover…anything. Tama then grabbed the handle and quietly opened the door before shutting it loud enough to catch Kagari’s attention towards the genjutsu he had placed inside the room. It was the most simple of techniques used to confuse an enemy and someone such as the shinobi inside should be able to handle it.

“Should”, being a very strong word here.

He had seen it many times over the last week. An older soldier who had seen his time in battle being unable to handle the death of a child or a younger one being unable to stand the loss of a comrade. Tama had seen and reacted to nearly every possible outcome from his patients regarding this and, now, generally kept from using it if he had time to submit his patient to the proper tests. Yet the ANBU always required far more than the average shinobi and the upper brass were always hounding he for ways to make their troops better. No doubt they were remembering a man who used to pay more focus to his science than his deeds.

Perhaps it was Kagari that had drawn the short straw today…

The "tall" doctor made his way over to the doorway and picked up a folder off the table. Kagari could briefly see the words "K. Toshiwakai" written on it, so he safely assumed that was his folder containing his medical history. He was anticipating another test, perhaps checking his chakra flow or some other medical examination that they had designed for shinobi. The tall man then closed the folder and turned his head slightly to Kagari, "A moment." He then exited the room; Kagari guessed the good doctor forgot something. He turned his head towards the tan folder that was left in the plastic bin. Unfortunately, the curiosity got the better of him. He made his way of the exam table and was about to pick up the folder when he heard the door slam. He recoiled back, ready for the doctor or someone to scold him for taking a peak; but that's not what happened.

His mother stood just a few feet away, finally, after days of searching there she was. Kagari couldn't move, it was the first time he was frozen in place since his days at the academy. Any words or thoughts slipped from his mind as he just stood and stared at the woman, her warm smiling piercing Kagari's inner soul. A Shinobi is meant to cut themselves off of all emotion, making them weapons. ANBU agents need to adhere to this principle, as their work is often bloody. But unfortunately for Kagari, the past few days have taken a toll and all those doubts, fears and emotions rushed to him in an instant.

He fell for it easily.

He had so many questions that he was about to ask all at once, but his body moved before he could speak. As he extended his arms for an embrace, he felt it. There was...something off about her. Maybe it was her aura or the fact she just felt...different. So he stopped halfway, the figure of her mother unchanged. He closed his eyes, formed the ram symbol with just his left hand and released it. Just like that, she was gone. It was as if a phantom had briefly visited him, to remind him of his pain. He went back to the exam table and exhaled a heavy sigh.

He sat there, not sure what to feel. Anger at the person who would dare toy with him like that and how easily he fell for it? Sadness that it was an illusion?

Disappointment. Yep, that was it, disappointment.

The doctor reached down into a pouch on his left hip and withdrew a small recording device. It was in the shape of a pen with an obvious on/off switch burrowed into the side. The very tip had a small steel mesh microphone to speak into and when Tama flipped the device on a small red light appeared from the mic. Suddenly the strange accent he used when speaking to people completely vanished,
Patient #223-00-311, conducting advanced clinical to test combat awareness and mental capacities for future missions. Test administered is #04, Genjutsu and emotional stress. Time is…18:48:10.” His thumb switched the device off.

Using only the relay senses he was given from how the person inside of the room reacted to his chakra Tama administered his ‘advanced testing.’ Without knowing either the elation or how close Kagari came to touching the illusion the doctor only began to speak again when the genjutsu was dispelled. His eyes counted the digits between his last recording and noted it took a whole twenty seconds. Going on theory and practice it told him the patient beyond came close to being tricked but grasped the situation before a mistake was made.
Test finished. Time is 18:48:40. Total time elapsed for genjutsu removal was twenty seconds. Subject appears to be in a state of distraction for a member of ANBU to not recognize the illusion so easily, however, Mr. Toshiwakai doesn’t appear to be distracted beyond duty. Conclusion: passed. Continuing on to second step; combat awareness. Conducting test #032. Time is currently 18:49:20.” The red light went dim again as Tama placed the device back in his pouch, knocked on the door, and turned the knob to step inside.

Immediately he was aware of the look on the man’s face and knew that his genjutsu had touched a nerve. A pang of guilt lanced the Hybrid’s heart briefly before he steadied himself by remembering what this man had signed up for. The Black Ops were a group of highly specialized shinobi who were supposed to be able to kill off their emotions at any given second, follow through on an assassination no matter the target, and never defied orders. They were the troops who went into both front line and into the deeper parts of shadows most shinobi had not the courage to traverse. Doctor Ryuu had chosen his profession in part due to the lack of his ability to remove those emotions and rarely had any love for the ANBU or their kind.
Yet the look of disappointment and the sorrow that echoed beyond Kagari’s eyes were not lost on him. The medical professional stopped just short of the man’s physical reach and gave a half bow in apology,
Forgive muh methods, ser, I shoulda given yuh the choice ov’ what speed you wished dis done in an’ can see by yer looks I’ve done goofed. If’in it avails yuh anythin’, we’ze only gots one more test to complete. In advance, this’n be a tad more physical.

The doctor walked over to the wall behind the patient bed and gave it a light push. The stone sunk back and then split apart from each other to reveal the hospital courtyard. A large fountain in the middle set the stage for a large garden walkway filled with benches and a number of rare herbs the hospital grew for research. Tama lead the Black Ops member into the center of the courtyard where the fountain was and spread his arms out, took a deep breath, and spun to face his patient again,
You smell dat? Eet smells like freedom. Bad times are a comin’ an’ we’ze can’t be slackin’ no more. If we want to keep smellin’ dis fresh air…we’ze gonna have to fight for it.

The doctor’s wrists rotated twice, counter clock-wise, and made a crackling sound. They had about ten minutes before the next shift started which gave them roughly only five. Tilting his head towards each shoulder the doctor loosened his neck muscles up before making a sudden attack. It was a simple jab, an attack that was supposed to be easily dodged. Following it would be another, faster, then another, then a counter kick to Kagari’s first attack. If the ANBU was able to keep up with the doctor it would be little more than a display of basic martial arts sparring until, right as Tama began to throw a counter and an obvious clone appeared to the shinobi’s left to exhale a burst of flames. It was fairly simple that he could dodge it, but, in doing so the ball of fire would launch itself right into the herb garden the hospital so treasured.

Tama’s mismatched eyes watched closely.

The door opened a few seconds after Kagari dispelled the illusion of his "mother". He turned his head to the presence that was approaching, the large doctor ducked his head through the doorway again. He had impeccable timing,
“Forgive muh methods, ser, I shoulda given yuh the choice ov’ what speed you wished dis done in an’ can see by yer looks I’ve done goofed. If’in it avails yuh anythin’, we’ze only gots one more test to complete. In advance, this’n be a tad more physical.” Now that the perpetrator revealed himself, Kagari glared at the man, clearly upset. He then closed his eyes and did his best to compose himself; sighing audibly. "Okay." He spoke in a dry tone. If this what was required for a checkup then so be it. Kind of a fucked up way of testing someone's emotional capabilities but whatever.

The doctor then made his way towards the wall behind Kagari, applying pressure to a switch of some kind. The wall behind Kagari opened up and revealed an open courtyard. Kagari raised his eyebrow, he didn't know that the hospital had secret doors and tunnels. He was curious to see if there were any other hidden passageways in the hospital.

"You smell dat? Eet smells like freedom. Bad times are a comin’ an’ we’ze can’t be slackin’ no more. If we want to keep smellin’ dis fresh air…we’ze gonna have to fight for it.” The doctor made his way to the courtyard and Kagari followed. He stopped, and started stretching, loosening himself up as if he was about to exercise. Wait...was he going to..? Kagari was about to ask when the doctor threw a punch at his face which Kagari leaned back to avoid. He was caught off guard by the sudden attack just slightly. It was followed by a kick to his mid-section which Kagari almost blocked.

The giant man had a big boot and knew how to use it. He could see in his peripheral a clone begin to spout flames at the 18-year-old. With his left hand, he channelled his chakra and formed a shuriken made of snow. (Snowflake shuriken: rank 1) He threw that with some heat at the clone while he lept back. He needed to create some space between him and the doctor, his reach would make it difficult for close combat. Opening his left hand, an ice spear (Frozen Spear: Rank 3) appeared out of the air and Kagari hurled it at the doctor.

The smile on his face belied the inner workings of the doctor’s brain.

It had been some time since he had actually fought. Most of the recipients that he had conducted this test on responded with the melee that Tama started off with every time. It was to speed test physical reflexes and of course Kagari passed with flying colors even if the kick wasn’t completely blocked. Yet this was generally where his test would end because the regular opponents would continue with a physical attack and, despite the perfected string of muscles beneath the scrubs, Dr. Tama was actually pretty bad at hand-to-hand. It wouldn’t take long for a member of the main branch to overwhelm him, let alone an ANBU, but the moment Kagari blocked the flames and stepped back Tama could feel his heart squeezing with excitement.

Ninjutsu, he’s going to use more ninjustu,’ the doctor’s brain screamed in joy as his eyes watched the seals being weaved. In response the scientist focused energy at the tips of his fingers and began to write glyphs into the air. The lance of ice flew towards the man right as he snapped his fingers to create a Heat Wave: Master Rank to appear suddenly around him. Yet the ice proved stronger as it pierced through the warmth of the energy and his body. Through his lower left abdomen did the lance stab through and already he could feel the warmth of his blood begin to rush into his mouth from the intestinal wound. Yet there was no look of concern; just one of utter delight.

Magnifi-”, the doctor coughed a little blood before grabbing the ice lance to apply pressure and crush it, “Real fine. Yer reflexes an’ ability to take in yer surroundins’ during sudden combat are beyond yer basic peers…not tuh mention such beautiful water based ninjutsu in tha desert is such a rare commodity. Truly I ask for yer forgivence though I know I don’t deserve it. Yee’re free tuh go, I’ll finish da paperwork and have eet sent out to yuh branch by da next ‘our.

The ice stuck in the wound was already starting to melt as the water and blood mix staining his clothes began to shrink until the wound was gone. The scientist’s natural recovery rate still being insane as ever he carefully approached Kagari and held out his right hand in peace,

Yee’re goin’ to do great things for our country."

As the lance glided through the air, the doctor did his best to defend against it. A heat wave acted as a barrier between him and a sharp cold spear, but it was to no avail. It hit its target, the cold spear was lodged in the man's stomach. Kagari winced, he didn't intend to draw blood in what was a spar. He thought the man would have dodged, but he stood and took it. However the doctor was unperturbed...He gazed at the spear in his body, impressed. "Magnifi-" He cut himself off as grabbed the spear in his body and crushed it with his bare hands. Brutal.

“Real fine. Yer reflexes an’ ability to take in yer surroundins’ during sudden combat are beyond yer basic peers…not tuh mention such beautiful water based ninjutsu in tha desert is such a rare commodity. Truly I ask for yer forgivence though I know I don’t deserve it. Yee’re free tuh go, I’ll finish da paperwork and have eet sent out to yuh branch by da next ‘our.” Kagari nodded, he was pretty happy with his results and the compliment he was given. His control of the ice got better and better since the trip to Cloud. Was it because of the foxes?

Still the man did have a gaping wound in his stomach which drew his concern. The large man approached him, seemingly unaffected by Kagari's ice ninjutsu.

“Yee’re goin’ to do great things for our country." He held out his hand to Kagari, which the young man shook. "Thanks for the fight...Although you should get that looked at." Kagari pointing to the man's wound, unaware of his fast healing abilities. "Maybe you should...see a doctor?" Kagari smirked at his lame joke.

While the man’s concern for his wound made the scientist stop for a moment and consider that perhaps not all ANBU were the cold monsters they were perceived to be, there was little to be worried about.

Wound? What wound?” the doctor replied as he slid his hand over the hole in his abdomen. In the split second it hovered over Tama briefly focused his strange chakra in the area and quickly repaired the damage to his shell. Like magic, when the hand moved, all that remained was exposed flesh and torn clothing. Walking past Kagari the doctor lead the man back into the patient’s room, now that his speed test was done, and closed the wall leading into the courtyard behind them. With his time nearly up Tama spent the last few moments with his patient suggesting a diet with a higher vegetable intake to increase the strength of chakra produced over the amount that a high protein diet produced. With that he shook the ANBU’s hand, signed a few forms, and placed the chart back to where it was before notifying the nurse on duty to see the man out and have his forms sent into Headquarters ASAP.

The scientist quickly made his way over into the staff locker and break rooms to grab his split-shift shower and redress himself in the cranberry colored scrubs usually color coded to the ER. Over it he slipped a normal lab coat after hanging the other one up for the night. Cleaning the cape like thing was a bit harder than it was to simply burn a beyond soiled lab coat and buying a new one.
Slamming his locker shut the good doctor laid his stethoscope along the back of his neck and proceeded out towards the Emergency section of the Sunagakure hospital.

"Wound? What wound?” The doctor was still nonchalant about his stab wound; walking past Kagari as if nothing happened. Kagari followed the doctor out as the courtyard closed off behind him. Kagari shrugged, figured he was done here in the hospital. It was an a...unique experience. He thought he was in store for a typical physical check-up, but he was hit with both a mental and physical test. Shinobi Ninjas never have it easy, even with doctors.

Regardless, Kagari made his way back to the receptionist. He checked out, signed his name in the visitor's list and promptly left the hospital. He was "ready" to jump back into Duty with his other ANBU soldiers. The search for his mother was still on his big to-do list, but he was ready to answer the call if need be.

It was just a matter of when and where.
