Tenko stared down at the chunk of wood placed precariously against the rock before her, halting every motion her limbs ached to make until they screamed in defiance. Her eyes zeroed in, narrowed, until her irides no longer flickered - centered fully on her target. Not even a shift of her feet nor a twitch of her fingers disturbed her near-impeccable stillness. Focus. Focus.

Don't breathe.

Every movement would be measured. Every decision carefully executed and maintained. There would be no excess in the way her spine would finally twist, weaving the path towards her destination with quick, to-the-point steps. It was an almost euphoric feeling, the build-up that led into her release in a burst of speed. She was practically gliding across the stone, the quickest route planned and followed accordingly. It took no longer than a blink she would not make for her to be upon the poor log, swinging her leg down in a full roundhouse that impacted with a loud *smack!* and sent splinters flying around her taut frame.

Don't stop.

The process was not only avoiding the excess of effort - but completing the goal within the confines you lined for it. There was no relent to the strikes she had precisely taken into account for this assault - again, again, again. A flash of her fist here, striking in a sweeping kick there. Bruises formed along her heels and knuckles and still she continued, until she was able to fall away with not a single heave to her chest - the unfortunate victim left in no more than a heap of twigs.

Defensive Technique! [WC: 341]

There was a certain finesse to maintaining your defense without suffering your offense for it; it was one any Shinobi should adapt for their arsenal, therefor one Tenko sought out. As with any of these passions - encompassing the whole of her duty as ninja - she wouldn't cease until she achieved her result. This began to show in the lines of wear, creases and a stiffened brow, across her features. Her breathing was forcibly steadied; labored, yet not pained. "Again," she called across to her sparring partner, a largely non-descript fellow Academy Student with a troubled expression.

The two had built up their fair share of bruises and scars throughout their session today and her partner had timidly try to suggest they end for the day or at least break long enough to recuperate - Tenko had of course declined, politely, and continued to call out rounds. The roles they had traded hours ago put her on the defensive, exactly the practice she was hoping to build. She was subject to a multitude of low-level Taijutsu techniques and an array of both Kunai and Shuriken that she was managing to evade; the desired result, of course, being that she was able to just as efficiently trade blows in return.

Glancing steel soared through the air towards her and were met with an equal response; the air sparked between them as both rounds of weapons met and rebounded in opposite directions. It was just the opening Tenko desired - as her opponent spent his time distracted by the leveled field, another array of Shuriken broke through the clash zone and slammed against the chest of his protective vest. They were right on their mark, the painted "bullseye" applied at their starting point today.

Noting the significantly lower number of nicks she had obtained than her sparee - and with none located in the dead center - Tenko allowed herself the smallest sense of pride before straightening her defensive stance and nodding once, curtly.

Then she bowed. "Thank you for your time."

Adaptation was important. Any creature within any ecosystem could tell you this; sometimes you find yourself in a place not your home, thrust outside of your comfort zone, and you have no choice but to learn this lesson. Thankfully, however, this was one of the scarce luxuries Tenko was afforded - she got to practice her adaptation within a controlled environment before worrying about her ability to apply it to fieldwork. There was little doubt in her mind that she'd be able to, of course,
but the chance to burn the motions into her muscles until they were a reflex was one she gladly took.

A punch that led into a strike of her bat in a single rebounding movement, pivoting into a sharp kick that covered the flurry of her shuriken and finished with a kunai jammed into the skull of this training dummy. There wasn't a lapse between her varied assault; nothing but the quick of the draw.
