Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

I approached the gates with a cheery smile on my face, documentation proving who I was in my satchel. Above my left shoulder, was what appeared to be a nest of sorts, or a bowl, made of levitating sand. Peeking over the edge was a companion of mine named Kaiju. He seemed apprehensive of all the people nearby, as I had not brought him that close to any heavily populated areas as of that moment. But humans were populous and he wasn't going to be this small forever. It was important to learn that just because we were many did not mean we were a threat.

So there I waited for someone to come help me out with registering as a guest to Kumogakure. Questioning me wasn't going to get very far should they want to due to my amnesia, but I would cooperate as best as I could.

Hikari, once more checking in with her gate guardian, stood at the top of the wall, just waiting. Her watchful eyes lit upon a person trotting up the pathway. Kariku had accompanied her this day, his legs had lengthened and his eyes grew ever more curious as the days went on. "Do you see him?" Hikari asked her bear, "The human on the pathway. Just a little ways off. Unless he's lost, he'll come here." She told him.

The cub cocked his head and nodded. He could see the stranger. "Why?"

"Because we are a city. Humans live in cities like most bears live in the woods."

Kariku snuffled, but didn't pick up his scent. "Who is he?" The brown bear asked.

"A traveler perhaps. A shinobi, maybe. We won't know until he gets here." She told him as they waited. Eventually the man. He kind of stood there waiting for something. Hikari cleared her throat. "Hello there stranger." Hikari said, leaning over the top of the wall a bit. "Wanna toss me your passport so we can get things moving?”

Kariku, meanwhile, had decided that the ledge of the gate was too high and he didn’t feel like tippy toe-ing to see over it. He sat down and began sniffing around for bugs and the like. Hikari smiled at him and ruffled his fur. The cub was like a child in many ways, trailing along behind her because she had promised him care after his mother died. “Don’t eat anything you find up here, it might be poisoned. If you’re hungry, I have a granola bar.” She murmured to him.
“S’OK. I’m not hungry yet.”

Kaiju looked up to the wall where the voice was coming from and staring directly at the woman, unwavering from within his safe sandy haven. Kenta on the other rose a hand in greeting and bade the woman hello. "Ahoy! Of course I can!" I responded in a cheery attitude. A hand made of sand split off from the nest above my shoulder and reached into my pocket to retrieve the information. It was a little strange, but in a world such as things, things were hardly alarming anymore.

The floating hand brought the passport up to Hikari, then dissolved into the wind though evidence remained in a small pile of sand beneath where it had once been. Within the documentation she would find height, weight, and all other general information including blood type along with the name Isaki Kenta. But there was something about this woman, something familiar. As I he could trust her. Call it a sixth sense if you will. See I had motivations like anyone else, and a few towards my journey here. Our clan leader Hoshikata had retrieved a headband from me a while back with intent to bring it back here. But he forgot to grab the passport! One of the reasons I was here was to deliver it as well.

Pulling out the Kumogakure sanctioned passport of one Ishikawa Zaku, I used another hand of sand to hand it to Hikari with the following explanation. "I believe this is yours! Wanted to return it to you guys."

The man waved a hand, and Hikari got a look at his face. It was incredibly familiar. Hikari frowned, and Kariku looked up at his caregiver questioningly. "It's ok, Kariku." Hikari murmured, suddenly uneasy. The man reminded her of someone. With his blonde hair and probably blue eyes, Hikari couldn't help thinking of Zaku.

"Ahoy! Of course I can!" He said. The voice was similar too... inflections different, but voice the same. He used a hand, made of sand, to reach out and retrieve his things. The hand then moved up and dissolved as it handed her the passport.

"Isaki Kenta?" Hikari asked, pursing her lips in doubt, as she read the information. She'd seen Zaku's passport before, and frankly, the only thing different was the picture and the name. “You look curiously similar to someone else I know, and not at all like the other Isakis I’ve met.” She observed, pushing her hair out of her eyes. A moment later he used another sand hand to pull out a different passport.

“I believe this is yours! Wanted to return it to you guys." He said.

Hikari took the second bundle, and opened it. She knit her brow, and pushed her hair out of her face again, before looking back down at the man. “Where did you get this?” She asked, her face was serious. Her eyes hard. As she turned cold, so too did the fair day. Kenta might notice a stiff breeze had picked up, and brought with it a chill from the snowiest of peaks. The red haired woman was no longer simply distrusting. Now she was almost angry. “Where did you get this passport, Isaki?”

Her words brought thoughts to my head, especially when she mentioned my family. I did not know that a large enough number of my family had come to this place, otherwise I might have come sooner! At least enough so that she had an idea what we looked like. I guess I didn't really notice any difference between my brethren, but it's true I wasn't looking for it...

Her attitude changed upon retrieval of the dead cloud nin's passport. The tension got...tense. Apparently this hit a nerve! She wanted explanation, and my only explanation was this. "I've had it as long as I can remember. I used to have his headband too, but not anymore. Our clan leader took that from me. Said I took it off his dead body when he tried to kill us. I seem to be rather forgetful as of late and don't really remember why I would do that; I don't usually loot the dead, but there must have been a good reason!" I explained with a smile on my face, hoping this wasn't about to go sour.

”Kenta, what a pleasant surprise. I don't recall you mentioning you wanted to come here, I would have brought you along with me.”

The voice was honeyed, sweet, and tinged with curiosity. Kenta was supposed to be with the rest of the clan. Kenta was supposed to be safely out of his hair. Kenta was instead here, in Cloud. The body that owned the voice soon shows itself as Hoshikata simply steps through the gates, his ethereal form having some definite advantages. Much as before when the one man had tried to run through, Hoshikata was taking his vow seriously enough to keep an eye on things. That he failed to see Kenta coming was a surprise in and of itself.

The Seer was wearing his black robes with the gold trim, and holding his staff in one hand so that the blue crystal on it reflected the light. His face was a mask of serene happiness, a smile plastered on it that would fool even Tatsuya. He would not let anyone see how much this bothered him, because then there would be questions. Questions he had no desire to answer, or even see asked. Perhaps a mistake was made somewhere, perhaps not. All he knew was he had to make sure this didn't blow up in his face.

”How is the clan faring?”

(Gate crash)

"There's no way in hell you've had that all of your life, Isaki. Zaku has only been..." She paused, uncertain of the word she should choose. To be honest, she wasn't sure what had happened to Zaku. All she knew was hat he had disappeared. Most, including her uncle, had assumed that he had gone rogue, missing. All she knew was that without an explanation that fit- and 'Ishikawa Zaku is no more, by my hand.' wasn't exactly what she was looking for, all that she could say for certain was that he was, "gone... for a year." It was almost exactly a year. That was curious. Hikari frowned at Kenta. Unfortunately, the red haired Santaru had been frowning more and more often of late. Life was not what it once was, and she was no longer a smiling youth. "Off his dead body. That's interesting. Your clan leader has been rather evasive as to what exactly happened that night." She said, "And where were you before this? Before Zaku's death. Did you live in Kumo? If so, I'd like to know where."

Moments later, before Kenta could reply, someone else spoke. False sweetness poured over it like too much honey on toast. ”Kenta, what a pleasant surprise. I don't recall you mentioning you wanted to come here, I would have brought you along with me. How is the clan faring?”

Hikari backed up, a hand on Kariku, who followed her slowly. She touched the button on her headset and spoke clearly, but not overly loudly. "Isaki Hoshikata has come to the gate as I interviewed a member of his clan. One Isaki Kenta. Kenta told me he retrieved Zaku's passport from his dead body last year. Calling for assistance. Once again, Tanaka Hikari calling for assistance at the gates." She said, before greeting the man mistrustfully. "Well hello there Hoshikata san." She said as he emerged, she remembered Haruka snf smirked, "We have not met," She said, "But Haruka has spoken to me of you." That wasn't exactly true. She had spoken of Hoshikata to Shin, and Hikari had alluded to their kiss, but Haruka was not one for words.

"One of your clansmen has joined us here, but you were not expecting him, it seems." She tapped the passport in her palm, "He had some interesting things to say about Ishikawa Zaku's disappearance, and funnily enough he was quoting you. 'The leader of my clan' He said. Unless I'm mistaken, that is you."

Her words seemed stressed upon my ear, even without the cursing and body language she held. I felt something for the young woman, almost as if sympathy for the loss of one of her own. However, as I expected, she had questions. For it had been some time since the discovery of the passport in my pocket, and the village no doubt had laid this poor young man to rest somehow. I was happy to oblige her questions with answers, though we were interrupted by none other than Hoshikata, the clan leader who really hadn't been around to lead the clan.

As Hikari spoke up on the wall, what she said fell deaf on my ear as my attention shifted. I smiled and bowed toward him, instead commenting on his own words instead of hers. "It's been a while now, my interests have changed! The clan is doing... well clan-like. We are many so it's hard to say how we are doing collectively in our home. I would assume well, however, they wonder why their leader has been away for such a long time." I said as Hikari turned to once again speak towards me. Her questions toward me seem to have been forgotten, so I would let the leader of the Isaki speak.

"It's good to be home, isn't it."

"What is it now Fukuzatsuna?"

"Once upon a time you lived here, I remember watching you grow up within these walls. Children's laughter was like nails on a chalkboard, but I do find myself somewhat homesick."

"Do not play tricks on me Demon. I remember none of this. I was in Kirigakure as a child."

"Believe what you want, not like you ever listen to me anyway..." concluded the demon.

I found myself crouching near Kaiju who was on the ground, giving him a good scratch upon the scales. I shook my head. This wasn't the first time the beast tried to trick me, and surely it wouldn't be the last... But still. The thought lingered. I never did remember much anymore, prior to coming out of the haze in Wind Country.

Hoshikata ignores the woman for the moment, an unimportant strand of the web he was weaving for the moment. Instead he listens as Kenta speaks of his changing desire and and spoke of the clan. A laugh came from the man as he shook his head. ”I am doing what I must to build the clan's power. It would appear we have lost our cousin Kushin, for he desires my head in a manner ill befitting a member of the Isaki. So here I am trying to salvage what ties I can from the businesses we had in place. I'm also trying to help the village out with a fellow as a goodwill gesture.”

He turns, the smile fading as he looks up at Hikari while somehow still looking down his nose at her. She had a passport, and was bringing up Zaku. He could only guess which passport that was then, and it brought a mirthless chuckle. She was paranoid over something, and that would work to his advantage if he played it properly.

”I'm sure he did. I am Isaki Hoshikata, leader of the Isaki clan, Second and last true Mizukage of Kirigakure. I'm not sure who you are, but your leader is already aware of what happened to the man you bring up. He and another forced me and my friends to leave this village, and then attacked us in the mountains. His friend fled, and he is no more.” The words came easily. Smoothly. And they were practiced as if the truth.

But the presence of Kenta complicated things. Still, it was no major complication. These people already distrusted him, all Kenta could do is admit to not knowing anything. The best would be backing him up. ”But yes, this man is with me. You'll find his passport in order. If you don't mind, I'd appreciate it if you let him in. I should show him the room I've taken and some of the sights.”

Upon Hoshikata's appearance, the other Isaki seemed to doze off. Not in the sense that he was asleep, but away... lost in thought, perhaps. Kenta reminded Hikari much of Zaku, and she couldn't seem to shake. Hoshikata mentioned Kushin, and Hikari couldn't help the tightness in her eyes, "Isaki Kushin desired many heads, and knew little of respect." She said, remembering the man, none too fondly. "As Kirigakure is now a frozen wasteland, you have my condolences on the hollowness of your role. You must have quite a bit of free time, these days." She said with a smile. She figured honestly, if her sass was going to get her into trouble, it would have been with a ruler of something a bit more influential than a tundra.

His friend fled, and he is no more.”

Hikari could hear the politics in his voice. It was like talking to the general of the people's republic, that first time. She raised a brow. It sounded like he'd rehearsed his lines quite well, "You have the presence of an actor, Hoshikata san." She said, her words as polished as his. "Forgive me, I didn't introduce myself. I am Sennin Tanaka Hikari. You may have met my predecessor, Do Natsu." She said, "And frankly, what you told Hayata sama, is not in question here, what Kenta san told me, is." She pocketed the passport, and paused for a moment, looking down at Kenta, then she shook her head. She felt as if she remembered something, but it slipped through her fingers and dissipated. The Santaru shook her head and nodded, "I already intended to let him in, but Kenta," She said, "I'd like to offer you a room somewhere rather nicer than whatever your clan leader has managed to obtain. The only catch is that I'd like to have dinner with you some night, in private. Call it whatever you like. You remind me of someone." The implication was clear, she wanted to be alone with him.

[Entrance granted]

I shrugged, tired of all this political talk. It made me sick to my stomach that people could be so distrustful. Can't we all just get along?

I listened to her offer and my eyebrows rose in surprise. "Sounds fancy, I'm in!" I commented and then smiled slyly. "I don't wanna say this sounds like a date or anything... Just let me know when you wanna hook up and I'll be there." I concluded and marched my way inside. She was kinda cute after all, maybe I was gonna get lucky and find a girl who would actually talk to me. The fact she was sennin was of no import to me, after all, I never did seem to catch the eye of anyone within the vast Isaki clan so perhaps I was a little desperate.

Behind me, Kaiju waddled along clumsily, still finding his land legs. He whined in a high pitched tone and I just shook my head. "You're gonna have to deal with it. I can't use up all my chakra carting you around all day."

[Topic Left] [Village Entered]

The words brought a raised eyebrow from the man standing below, anger building inside of Hoshikata at this woman's outright disrespect. ”I do find myself with enough free time to come help your village with its problems that no one else here has done anything about, yes.” He kept his attention split between the two, knowing there was a line to be toed here, but not crossed. She was a Sennin, which was good and bad. Good because she would be more bound by her leader but bad because he couldn't just threaten her. A smile creeps across his face as she insults the hotel he was staying in, and then tries to overrule his authority with his own clansman.

As Kenta begins to walk through, Hoshikata's staff snaps forward to block his path. ”I must say, I find your manner and bearing quite uncouth. I come to your village offering aid. Indeed, I have thus far stopped one person from breaking in, and I helped put down a murderer of the innocent. And all you can do is insult me, insult your own village by insulting my lodgings, and try to undermine my authority with my clan.” He turns his head to look directly at Kenta now, his eyes flaring with anger.

”Turn around. Go back to the clan. I'd rather not have one of my family in this village considering how hostile two of the three leaders thus far have been. If they still ask of me, feel free to point out this woman's behavior as my reason for being here, as I'm trying to keep such poisonous people from harming us.” The words were not warm, and they were not soft. This was no request, but the order of the patriarch of the family to one of his lessers.

(Kenta stopped)

Kenta smiled, "Sounds fancy, I'm in!" He commented, smiling slightly. "I don't wanna say this sounds like a date or anything... Just let me know when you wanna hook up and I'll be there."

"Of course, Kenta." She said, "The suite I occupy in The Dragon's Rest, has the finest view in the land-" She began, her voice warm.

"I must say, I find your manner and bearing quite uncouth. I come to your village offering aid. Indeed, I have thus far stopped one person from breaking in, and I helped put down a murderer of the innocent. And all you can do is insult me, insult your own village by insulting my lodgings, and try to undermine my authority with my clan." Hoshikata cut in, it seemed, bitterly.

"Interrupting someone when they are speaking is also uncouth, Hoshikata san." She said cooly. "And as much help as I am sure you have been, between rendering one Kumonin either dead or destroyed, and making out with another, I am sure you have been very busy. But of course we thank you for your assistance. I did not, you will note, insult my village's lodgings, I simply stated that I have better, After all, I did sponsor the embassy- which are, don't doubt it, the finest rooms in the finest building, in Lightning Country. And my request for Kenta's presence had very little to do with you at all... all I can think of is that you happen to share a clan name, and that is so slight an involvement as to be negligible." She pushed her hand through her hair hair, simply to move the curly mass.

”Turn around. Go back to the clan. I'd rather not have one of my family in this village considering how hostile two of the three leaders thus far have been. If they still ask of me, feel free to point out this woman's behavior as my reason for being here, as I'm trying to keep such poisonous people from harming us.”

"Oh so uncouth, Hoshikata san." She said coolly. "If you are speaking of Isaki Kushin, I will remind you that he was your clansman. I, for my part, do not intend poison. Poison would be fruitless by definition." She said, her frown turning back into a smile." She changed her expression to a patient, knowing smile. She said, "If I am not mistaken, you are courting one of my fellow Sennin, seeking to be allowed to join this village. I suspect tis for the affections of my Spymaster, but that is not important now.; I would like to make you aware that insulting the leaders of the village you wish to join, is no way to become an ally." She stressed the last word, not threateningly but emphatically. She had listened to Haruka's words on Hoshikata, remembering that she had banished him from her presence til he became a friend to Cloud.

I turned away from Hikari, to hide what I had to say towards Hoshikata.

"Come on man, don't be that way. This'll be my first date since like, ever! Besides, it's not like they could harm us anyways." I said in a hushed tone.

But then things got wordy and I rolled my eyes and yawned.

”Would that your shinobi knew how to defend themselves, perhaps they would not be missing.” Hoshikata chuckles again, the plan forming in his head. There were two ways out of this, depending on how it played out. If Kenta simply turned and left, Hoshikata could remove the issue safely outside of the village with no one inside any wiser to what happened. ”I see you're not familiar with family bonds. Those of us with a family worth speaking of tend to hold to that name as very important. I'm sure one day the Tanaka clan will be worth mentioning in a report somewhere and you'll understand the importance then. But so long as I lead the clan, all of its members are under my care. I won't be having someone attempt to turn one of my own against me. You would fail, but I'm sure you would still try your little heart out.”

And then she brought up Haruka, and his face went blank, a mask. How did she know about that? Was Haruka going around telling the entire village? As Kenta argued against him, the first plan went out the window, as did the second. Haruka demanded he help the village. Her village meant little to him, but she meant much more.

”Ally?”

No more with the banter of wit on wit. Hoshikata's voice lost the false edge of sweetness. Golden eyes peer up at the woman as she needles at him with a prod that she never should have drawn. She thought she was being witty. She likely thought she would make him say something incriminating. She had no idea, however.

”Very well. I shall give you an ally.”

Hoshikata spins, his hand flying out to grasp Kenta's wrist, fingers closing around a seal placed there and drawing the chakra away, leaving the skin unblemished as it had been before he placed it. That was merely the removal of evidence, however, for what came next. Hoshikata forced his chakra into Kent'a coils, releasing the bindings on Zaku but not destroying the presence of Kenta. Let the two selves clash, it was his hope that neither would know how to handle what was going on.

”Take note. I never once claimed I killed anyone.”

As he lets go of Zaku, Hoshikata turns once more to look at Hikari, lifting his staff slightly to point it at her. ”I think you might want to call your Raikage.” He made no move to get away, no move to do anything except stare up at this woman with his golden eyes full, holding mysteries of the past that were being revealed to the present.

Almost in an instant, things changed. I had been keeping my ears open, but now I was fully paying attention. Hoshikata's normally long and complicated sentences turned short and to the point. One thing I didn't expect was for him to turn on me, gripping me by my wrist. One deed done, the chakra forced it way into my system to eradicate the mental block that had been placed in my mind and spirit.

.

"Welcome back."

.

Sand soon began to vortex around my body, as if trying to protect myself from some outside force. A swirling nimbus seemed to formed under my feet and lifted me into the air as the damage that had been wrought was eaten away; my mind closed itself off to the world, trying to sort through conflicting information. My expression was that of pain. Kaiju, still on the ground, called out for his partner in a language unknown to those above the sea. I heard his call but it did not break the confusion I was enduring. Then I remember what the monster within me had mentioned only moments before. "I remember watching you grow up within these walls."

Soon, memories filled my mind, of following my father around through the complex, watching my cousin tend to his garden in the yard, and playing with the family dog while mom gardened. Then, ideas and thoughts of another childhood seemed to be combating those. I struggled within myself only to open my eyes, and look down to the fiery red locks of Hikari, and then to her visage. The academy. This was where I knew her from. We trained together, threw shuriken together. We graduated at the same time... The promotions, and those god awful ties... Masao...

The pain stopped.

The tendrils of sand that had been protecting me were reabsorbed into the mass of matter beneath my feet. My glare was that of disgust and hate, focused at Hoshikata. I was not sure what to say. I still had memory of the lies I had been told, of the past year I spent with the Isaki clan. No wonder no one took interest in me.

I looked at Hikari. I remembered protocol.

Moving toward her on my nimbus, I soon stepped off onto the wall beside her and placed my arms out forward to be taken into custody. "I submit myself to the shinobi corps of Kumogakure to be taken as a prisoner. I will cooperate fully Tanaka-san. But know this, the man is not to be trusted."

She sighed with peace, having finally come to be alone in Natsu's hospital room as she watched the stout nurse waddle her way out of the room carting her wash supplies with her. The Shima pushed Natsu's soft curls off his forehead, admiring his sleeping face and neatly cut locks. She reached over him to flip on her small radio, in case someone in the office would call her in. Finally, she settled down next to his side on a unassuming chair. "I'm sorry I haven't been coming as often as I'd like. Hikari gave me a role that demands my time." She began to speak to the unresponsive man, hoping he could hear her. She wanted to comfort him in anyway she could. Her hand rested on his as her fingers slipped in between the spaces of his. "I never thought I'd be Spymaster. I'm sure you didn't either, after all I'm the last person who knows what she's doing. I'm trying to follow your example. I'm trying to remember all that you and Masao taught me..." Her eyes were heavy with burden as she watched his chest rise and fall.

"I'll make you both proud, I promise. Its the least I can do, to repay the kindness you've shown me. Hikari and I will see that the main branch is back to where it should be. I know she is young, and to be honest, I was bitter that she got Senninship before me, but I'm beginning to trust her. She is truly a friend, even if I may never tell her that. Masao had a purpose is setting her up in ranks quickly, I'm coming to understand that." She rested her chin on the mattress next to his hand, still holding tightly onto him. Natsu often was exhausted from his duties as Spymaster, something she never understood until she fit his shoes. Late nights were becoming the regular. Back in her medical days, an all nighter was expected at least three times a week, but ever since she got comfortable in the Main Branch, the Crow lost the habit. Her lids began to heavily fall close as she shut off everything but the feel of Natsu's warmth and the quiet noise of his breathing.

"Isaki Hoshikata has come to the gate as I interviewed a member of his clan. One Isaki Kenta. Kenta told me he retrieved Zaku's passport from his dead body last year. Calling for assistance. Once again, Tanaka Hikari calling for assistance at the gates." The voice broke over the frequency and pass the defenses of her sleep when at last Haruka stirred. She sat upright quickly, heart thundering a little too much for her enjoyment. Their last meeting had be disastrous, and she had told Shin she feared Hoshikata would take her coldness and turn against the remaining trust Cloud had in him. Was this to be the fruit of her actions? Her eyes grew cold with worry. The best she could do is help Hikari. Haruka couldn't risk her companion's life, knowing fully well that Hoshikata would not lash out at the Shima. She rose up with confidence and flicked off the radio. Once last kiss on Natsu's forehead, and then she turned to exit.

A cold wind tore through her as she danced across the rooftops towards the gate. The snow of the mountain carried its frosting bite down to the village, and chilled the bones of many who traveled to and from their next destination. Of course, Haruka was comforted by the icy roar of the wind and felt invigorated as her clan powers shuddered with renewed life. Her pale skin was shadowed by the rolling dark clouds that swung down from the mountains as she passed through the gates' doors. Even in the gloomy light, Haruka's moonlight beauty shined with ethereal graces. Her footsteps were quiet and ghostly as she moved without effort towards the fireball of red hair, a young man with a peculiar pet, and the dark hooded figure of a man who could never hide from Haruka. They were not fighting, at least with weapons, just yet and that made Haruka's job much easier. She was the only one to respond to Hikari's call, and that did not make her job easier. She made a memo to scold her subordinates.

A tear shaped necklace of crystal glimmered around her neck, the only piece of fashionable accessory she had on her person as she was clad in the uniform of her branch. Her dark hair fell in waves around her shoulder, surprisingly not up in an elaborate style for once. They did not notice her presence at first, as she watched them converse and finally witness the ending to a mystery that had perplexed Kumogakure for an agonizing year. What had Hikari said to push him out of hiding? He was admitting his hand in kidnapping a Cloud shinobi and Haruka felt her breath catch up in her chest.

"Hoshikata." Her voice sternly called out as she moved towards Hikari's side. Turning her head to the Sennin, she quietly spoke, "My lady, I am sorry for the delay. I would have thought someone would have responded sooner." She was prepared to hold back her fiery leader from any rash intentions. Hoshikata had hidden away Zaku from the rest of world, even himself. Haruka had gathered it all up, for the sake of cutting time on explanation. She knew Hoshikata had meant more by his choice of words in the library, but what was the purpose of revealing what he had done now? He sought to gain something, but all Haruka could see was a road full of more mistrust and maybe even death. Despite this shocking reveal, Zaku was collected as he surrendered himself. Haruka moved towards him, placing her hands against his wrist. She sealed his movement with chakra, creating a makeshift pair of handcuffs with her power. "What the hell do you think to gain by doing this, Hoshikata?" She was quite plain with her speech when it came to Hoshikata, a kind of familiarity Hikari would not be acquainted with. Her harsh tone lashed at him with icy forcefulness. Why did he make it a point to make things harder for them both?

Hikari smiled and patted her bear cub, letting his petty insults wash over her. It seemed that he was a collection of words on an often misquoted book which had become less of a ‘classic’ than a phenomenon no one could explain, or cared to. Oh so very important, certainly, I’m sure you’re right, what with your clan being spread out, so many of them refugees from climate change, a dead clan name must be very important to your people. She thought with a sneer, declining to speak, however, because his words weren’t worth replying to. “The Tanaka clan? There are more than a few of us, my name is innocuous, but my relatives have held power in Kumo for decades. Names are pretty things, but meaningless.” She said, “And honestly, so seems the rest of your little tirade. Look at you, trying your own little heart out to make me feel bad.” She rolled her eyes, “Your words are petty.”

His expression blanked, and Hikari knew she had struck a nerve. She smiled a little, almost enjoying his displeasure. Perhaps she should not have stung him with his attachment to Haruka, but to be frank, she didn’t care. He had decided to needle her, and she had fought back. In other words, he could count each word as retribution for those he had spoken. “Ally?” He asked, his blank expression seemed to grasp out at straws. She nodded, raising a brow. “Very well. I shall give you an ally.” He then spun, striking out at Kenta. Hikari took half a step back and raised her hands, ready with a bind. Instead of attacking, he snatched Kenta and then something began to happen. Sand, combined with the winds her presence had stirred, made things difficult. “Take note.” He said, “I never once claimed I killed anyone.”

Hikari turned her gaze to Kenta who seemed to be consumed within a vortex of sand and energy. She looked back at Hoshikata with an expression of displeasure. She didn’t quite know what was happening, but she was certain she wouldn’t like it. At the same time, Hoshikata turned once more to look at Hikari, lifting his staff slightly to point it at her. ”I think you might want to call your Raikage.” He said in a domineering way. She was reminded strongly of their former medical sennin. It was no surprise they shared a name. It seemed to her that all Isakis were rude self ingratiating pricks.

As the cloud of dust faded, Hikari realized that the person standing before her was not Kenta. His expression was far too familiar. He moved toward her, and put his arms out. “I submit myself to the shinobi corps of Kumogakure to be taken as a prisoner. I will cooperate fully Tanaka-san. But know this, the man is not to be trusted."

Hikari’s lips parted, as she searched his face. “Zaku.” She said, even as Haruka came to stand beside her. Frankly she didn’t know what to say. She was sure she’d hear jokes about how the chatty Tanaka had been silenced. Some lame joke… but Hikari had honestly never expected to see Zaku again.

"My lady, I am sorry for the delay. I would have thought someone would have responded sooner."

Hikari turned her head slightly, to Haruka, “You’re forgiven, Shima dono.” She said, “Your presence is appreciated.” For a moment, Hikari was distant. Things seemed surreal. Then, Haruka handcuffed Zaku, and Hikari came back to herself. “And Zaku. I thought never to see you again. Your surrender is accepted.” She said.

"What the hell do you think to gain by doing this, Hoshikata?" She was quite plain with her speech when it came to Hoshikata, something that rather surprised Hikari. To be honest, Hikari was unsure if Haruka had ever called her by her surname. The level of scolding she put into calling him by his name, however, made her glad that Haruka was calling someone else, and not her.

Hikari pulled Zaku back, and called the Raikage on her headset, relating all that she knew in simple terms, “Sennin Tanaka Hikari here.” She began, telling Shin’s secretary about Kenta and then how Hoshikata had removed some sort of mental block from him, so that he, once more, became Zaku. She verified that she was certain it was him, and that he had surrendered, pronouncing her former faux clan leader dangerous. She then once more requested help. “I do not trust Hoshikata’s intentions, Raikage Sama. “ She said, ending the call with that.

As Zaku turned himself in and joined the He-Cloud Hoshikata Haters, Haruka showed up and for the first time since the last time he saw her, Hoshikata was at a loss for words. She was a powerful person to him, for reasons he could and could not say, or know. And here she was, in the middle of a mess of his own making. His golden eyes soften, the blank face slipping to show the turmoil beneath the mask he wore. That mask that could not remain in place with her present. She broke through the shell, forced him to be true to himself. And that was a very dangerous thing for the Seer.

As she asked him a frank and direct question, he simply shrugged, lowering his staff to the ground and letting it go. Instead of staying upright as it normally did, the weapon clattered to the ground at his feet as he looked between the two women once more. ”Nothing. And everything, I pray.” There was no immediate gain. There was no material gain. The Hoshikata that led a clan, led a village to greatness and then destroyed it would have killed himself before doing this. That was not the Hoshikata who even now was untangling threads of intrigue.

”Don't arrest him. He did not choose to follow me of his own will. Or even under duress. He had no say in the matter. The other one who followed me out of the village did so of his own choosing. Of the two from Mist who did, one did so under the same compulsion as Zaku, and my brother did so under threat of his very life.” There was a sense of relief in his voice, odd for one so used to lying. The truth was out.

”My other companions knew nothing of what I was planning. This is why they no longer travel with me, because they feared my actions would bring ruin upon us.” Hoshikata looks around briefly before holding a hand out, his staff leaping back into his grasp as some sense of place takes hold of him finally. ”I'll be joining you. I ask that no one attack me. I'll not be attacking anyone.” With a leap propelled by kinetic force he lands lightly upon the wall with the three of them.

”The other man came willingly, under orders of the TITAN corporation. I know where they were headquartered previously, but if Haruka has made my affections so known that both you and Shin are aware of them, then they well might also and would likely have moved.” He holds his hand out, the staff floating free and moving to Haruka. ”There is no gain here, Haruka. Not for me.”

”No need to cuff me. I'll willingly go wherever you wish to lead me.”

My expression was no longer that of physical pain. But there was a very obvious disappoint in my eyes. As if I had committed the greatest evil in all of the land. I had allowed myself to be compromised by the enemy and had cost my village greatly. Hikari was now sennin, which meant that several of those in the line of succession had been compromised. Would it have been different if I wasn't taken? If I had been stronger, would things be different? I didn't know the whole story, but the weight of responsibility returned to me. I was a failure. A disgrace to my family and the village. Quite honestly, I felt beneath the worms of the earth.

I heard her say my name and I looked up into her eyes, unsure of what to say myself, as she appeared to be voiceless as well. Even as a kunoichi arrived on the scene due to a call Hikari made no doubt, we just stood there watching each other. It was then it occurred that she would not be looking upon the face I once had; I turned away in embarrassment-- though I couldn't tell you why. Perhaps this face was proof of my weakness, and it shamed me. The newcomer seemed to provoke the sennin into response as handcuffs and a simple chakra sealing jutsu were placed upon me. Her voice was then directed at me, it was official, seemingly devoid of any emotional language.

It hurt.

A painful knot formed at the back of my throat and I looked to the ground. The world numbed around me as I exhaled deeply. This new women appeared to know Hoshikata and spoke in a very brazen tone. I was pulled aside by Hikari as she made the call to the officials; I wondered if Hayata Shin was still in charge, or even alive-- a year was a long time.

But then the unexpected happened. "Don't arrest him." I heard. My eyes slowly took on a confused and alerted stare, my head turning to look down at the man. This wasn't in his nature at all. No, not in the slightest. Was there an angle here? Why was he doing this?

He explained what had happened, why I had made my decision. I looked down at my wrist; the seal that had once made it's home there was gone. Was that what gave him control over me that day? I was never told what the seal was for after all. He continued to speak on matters I know not of, aside from the other shinobi who went missing from Kumogakure that night. My voice would break, and then returned in a low manner. "What he says about the other kumo nin is true I believe. I was still in my right mind for a while before... before I wasn't. He wasn't treated the same as myself." I concluded, trying to be of some help in this matter to the best of my ability despite the ordeal. Still, my opinion was likely not to be trusted in this situation anyway. Aside from that, I had no knowledge of what he was talking about. And would remain in my head questioning my future back home in the north.
