Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

It’s honed to a fine point, though the edge is a little dull, and there may be some spots of rust here and there, it’s one of Shiori’s most precious items.

Piercing (bleeding)
After carrying around a tatty old boning knife for too long, Shiori eventually ‘upgraded’ to a serrated bread knife he bought from a small blacksmith that Suo recommended. He’s very proud of his new tool, and the wave-like serration along the blade.

Ring
Unarmed (Handseals)
A gift from Shiori’s mother, the small copper ring is engraved with a lilly of the valley on the bezel. She said it had belonged to Shiori’s grandfather, but it had been passed down the men of the family for generations until it had been given to her.

Abilities:

1. Acrobatics

The slums had become Shiori’s playground when the boy was alone, unencumbered by responsibility as children were. The higgledy-piggledy houses made for a fun rooftop obstacle course for the boy as he spun and leapt, a smile on his face. As he slid down a drainpipe, he launched himself off into the air, grabbing the edge of a roof, fingers clamping onto the rickety guttering as he hefted himself upward.

As Shiori leapt from that rooftop, a tile slipped, and Shiori began to tumble downward, to the unforgiving ground. Moving without thinking, he turned the tumble into a graceful flip, landing and rolling to absorb the shock. It had been more fun doing this in the Moon Country with his brother chasing him, he thought to himself. But at least he could keep building his skills in this dirty arena.

2. Quick Reaction

It was the lunch rush. Shiori hated this time, but it was a day off, so he had gone in to help out Suo and Megu. Between pot washing he was also clearing tables.

The restaurant was full of people, the loud noises of good company echoing off the walls as customers enjoyed their food. The small form of Shiori wove between legs and around tables as he carried dirty plates away. He dropped them off in the sink for his co-worker to scrub. He didn’t meet the other guy much, but he seemed diligent enough whilst Shiori was away clearing up.

As he jumped back into the fray, Shiori saw a waiter get bumped by a particularly boisterous customer rocking back in his chair, roaring with laughter. The heavy bowls of hot stew shifted on the tray, and one began to tumble from the waiter’s grasp…
Shiori lurched forward, catching the bowl before it hit a customer on the head in the nick of time. Fortunately, it had slid off and fallen straight without spilling. The waiter nodded thanks, and rushed off to finish his work. Shiori shrugged, dashing to another table to take away dirty dishes.

3. Called Shot

“Again.”

Shiori sighed inwardly, maintaining his composure as he took up a position in front of the target, knife in hand.

He had taken up the tutoring outside of school hours to hone his skills before the crucial Genin exams that were starting soon. He needed to work on his combat skills, which were woefully lacking. The sensei offering tuition was severe, if such an aggressively gloomy demeanour could be summed up in one word. He stood with arms folded, unmoving apart from passionless eyes, like a mantis eyeing its next meal. All he would do is criticize, and make Shiori do the drill again.

He thrust at the target, the knife striking the red points at the centre of the circles on the body outline. He struck the important joints in the limbs, the hands, the weapon, the heart, the neck, the head before driving the knife downwards at the two marks over the target’s feet. He struck almost to the centre of the small red circles. That wouldn’t be good enough for the passionless shinobi, who was now inspecting the strike marks.

“You seem to have improved. You’re becoming more accurate.” The last word seemed to be spoken like an insult rather than the high praise it was.

Shiori didn’t like the man.

4. Conservative motion

Friday night in the restaurant was the second worst time to work there. Friday night on payday was the worst time. Like a many-hour lunch rush, the staff were tested to their limits to keep up with the number of customers and their drunken exploits.

This time, Shiori was filling in for one of the chefs, having picked up some skills for basic meals. The key was working fast. He chopped vegetables for the stew, scooping them up with the blade and dropping them in the pot. He used the same movement to move past the bubbling pot to the meat that was browning on the hob, stashing the knife in his apron, stepping effortlessly around a chef bringing fresh ingredients for a more complex dish. He grabbed the pan with one hand, turning it off with the other, turning and moving fluidly before putting the meat into the large pot, stirring it with the spoon that had also been stashed in his apron.

5. Weapon attunement
Shiori turned the ring over in his hands. The light reflected off the coppery metal, making it seem almost aflame in his hands. He looked at the small engraving on the bezel. Simple lines and shapes, well worn with time, made the symbol of lily of the valley. He looked up at his mother, a questioning look on his face. She smiled at him.

“It was your grandfather’s. He gave it to me when you were born. He says it’s been passed down for generations. It’s very important to the family. I heard about what happened in the restaurant, and it’s time for me to pass it to you.”

The ring was too big to be worn as his mother directed, for now. He slipped it over his middle finger on his right hand. It felt comfortable there. The air began to crackle as Shiori focussed his new powers. It felt easier with the ring on as he moved his hand around, his energy blade throwing shadows across the room, his ring seeming to glow like a core as it was lit by the unnatural weapon.

Why was the water always going cold?!

Shiori’s face twitched as he scrubbed another pot at Suo’s. He was getting frustrated. He had been scrubbing pots all day. Why was the special ‘sweet and sour pork’? It had basically set into something Shiori was sure could be used as mortar in construction around the edges of the pot. No matter what he tried, he could not scrub it. They had been soaking for as long as he could allow before Suo started bellowing about a lack of equipment for his chefs. He was trying to chip away at the obstinate mess, only to have more ruined pots dumped into his sink.

And the water was cold!

He couldn’t clean in cold water! No matter how hard he scrubbed, it wouldn’t come away. He even tried using his chakra to give his scrubbing extra force, the placid water becoming a turbulent cataract as it spilled over the edges, trying to drive out the errant food. No matter what he tried, the stuff took too long to shift.

He was so annoyed, he didn’t even notice Megu as he called Shiori for his break, the red haired boy shrugging and making his own way out back. Shiori knew he could not let the pork win. If he failed at simple pot washing, he could not ever be a successful man, let alone great immortal shinobi. He would not fail here.

He would not

As he scrubbed harder, his hiss in frustration was joined by the hiss of the water his hand was submerged in. Smoke billowed around the boy.

No, not smoke,

Steam. He smiled, tempering his hot rage with the deluge of water. Vapour began to form, guided by Shiori’s will. He tried to push it against the stubborn mess, the hot steam able to shift it more quickly than some cold water.

Shiori thought to expand on this, putting less water in the next pot. He focussed on it, as he had done in the previous pot. The water began to bubble, steam rising. Shiori guided the steam, blasting it into the walls of the pot. The sweet and sour pork lifted right off. Shiori grinned as chefs started shouting about the mist enveloping them, impeding their work.

Shinobi 101
Vapour jutsu uses Melee accuracy

Shiori was in the street that passed as his garden in front of his shack, practicing. He had just learnt to use vapour jutsu, and he was having a hard time getting to grips with the element. He could see it’s uses in fighting, to hide his movements and hamper his enemies. He made the seals, and produced a cloud of mist. It was improving, but he could do better.

Perhaps…

He focussed his energy, and warmed up with a few taijutsu moves. He imagined striking, rather than forming the cloud, mist acting like his fist in his mind. He formed the seals, and mist began forming, creating a thick fog Shiori could barely see through. He smiled to himself as he tried it again, reaching success.

6. Combat instincts
It was another busy day in Suo’s. A critic was in, and a large party. Everyone had been called in. Shiori was looking forward to a day of training before Megu had come and basically dragged him to the restaurant. He hastily scrubbed pots, blasting jets of steam to cleanse the crockery and utensils. Everyone was shouting over each other, stepping expertly past each other. Shiori was trying his best, moving only when needed, but it wasn’t enough. He was slowing people down. He focussed on his environment, reading the movements of the group rather than individuals. He began to see gaps where he could move easily to put fresh pots and plates out for use, and grab the dirtied equipment without bothering the other staff. He kept moving quickly, dodging expertly into the spaces he could see, his mind constantly active to look for openings at his every motion.
