The lone son of the Ikeda family in Kumogakure, Kohaku was always subject to whispers, comments and other forms of comments, some good and some bad. This could have stemmed from the fact that the Ikeda family ran a small tourism operation for those foreigners who dared to venture forth into the mountains and rough terrain that made much of the Land of Lightning. Kohaku never took part in such outside activites instead preferring to remain locked up within his study pooling over his Academy texts and lessons with an unhealthy obession even for the most dedicated student. It was almost as if he was searching for something but as to what that mystery objective was, no one could make sense of it.
After a while, his parents chalked it up to just an abnormal factor in his education but Kohaku certainly wasn't lacking bringing home excellent marks most of the time.
It wasn't until Kohaku's parents took a particular group of newcomers up into the mountains onto a routine trip that everything shattered around him. A particular frosty evening and despite recommendations from the village to stray away from the mountaineous regions in preparation for the winter storm that was about to be upon them, Ikeda father's keen to end on a good note agreed to do this one last trip and Kohaku couldn't help but feel something watching as his parent's packed chatting away happily with the new group they were taking up.
They would never return falling victim to the snowstorm that swept the mountains for seven days and nights and after a fruitless search and rescue operation by Kumogakure forces revealed only the frozen and deceased bodies of the Ikeda adults as well as the tourists they were taking up but Kohaku also noticed something else once the details of their demise was being presented to him. Battle wounds apparent on various parts of their body, there had been a struggle between his parents and the tourists which raised a lot of questions.
Who really were these tourists that Ikeda's parent's had agreed to take up into the high elevated regions of Kumogakure and why was his father so insistent on taking this group? Kohaku has somewhat long, black hair that touch his forehead badly but is well-maintained subconisouly aware of it's lengths. His eyes are a sullen grey and it is rare for a smile to grace his face, Kohaku is always focused, always serious and always after something and can't fathom the thought of feeling anything else. Two brown scabbards strapped on either side of his waist hold two short swords, quick and light allowing him to manevur in combat quickly and effectively.
In terms of clothing, Kohaku's traditonal garb consists of a mixture of long-sleeved shirts, a cape, thick trousers and boots, a variety of winter clothing designed to keep him suffciently warm in Kumogakure's climate. His forehead protecter dangles around his neck and when on duty, he dons the traditional shinobi flak jacket complete with a fur cape to help him cope with the high severity and volume of winds that ravage the mountaineous regions. A small battered brown notepad is always with him which Kohaku uses to take notes and observations concealed somewhere on his person.
Personality-wise, Ikeda Kohaku is a very quiet person choosing when and where he talks. He observes most of the time electing only to employ the use of words when necessary although it must be said that sometimes, the way he phrases things and sentences is done with the utmost straightforwardness not choosing to beat around the bush which can sometimes lead to strained tensions between him and the other parties. Speaking, Kohaku employs this almost bored tone almost as if lacking interest, something most people pick up on rather quickly.
When emotionally charged, Kohaku begins to grit his teeth perhaps out of sheer frustation or being overwhelmed and begins to talk at a faster pace and is more prone to make mistakes when in this state although it is very rare to strike a nerve with the boy, one can certainly do so by bringing up the topic of his parent's which is almost certain to get a reaction from him and not a postive one either. To those he cares about, Kohaku employs a rather jovial, caring attitude, almost playful with them although when around strangers, he resents back to his sullen self even when he is with friends.
For the most part however, the boy communciates with his expressions and his eyes, a fact that irks some people and even unerves other although when he does choose to engage someone in converstation, he does so for the sake of achieving an objective rather than talking nonsense. Any attempt to enage him in trival talk is sure to be an hard obstacle although when one suceeds, they begin to get an inside into the true nature of Kohaku, a boy seeking happiness and answers about a life that was a lie to him.
He holds figures of authority at a certain distance not exactly sure what to think of them connecting more closely with people his age. While he will respect those senior to him. Kohaku will not let them connect too deeply due to harboring contempt and mistrust at the way his parents covered their real life from them, it is diffcult for him to take what any adult assures him for at face-value though Kohaku is certainly trying, it will be some time before he gradually accepts it.
