Age: 12
OOC Rank: D
IC Rank: Academy Student
Lineage: Inuzuka
Affinities:
Minor Lightning
Physical Description: Kohaku is about 145cm tall, a fairly average height for his age. His build is fairly toned as a result of near constant physical exercise and a rigorous training schedule. His brown hair never seems to be very tidy, but it's still kept reasonably short. His most striking physical characteristics come from his Inuzuka lineage; his razor-sharp claws, his beast-like canine teeth, his golden-brown slitted eyes, and of course, the traditional 'red fang' markings painted onto his face like many others of his family.
Mental Description: Kohaku is energetic and excitable most of the time; he never seems to be able to sit still for longer than a few seconds and is always eager to burn off his limitless supply of stamina. When meeting new people, he's naturally very friendly but also very cautious around more suspicious company. Having been raised in a more 'traditional' branch of the Inuzuka clan, Kohaku has been brought up to see the world more like a hunting ground; there are those who are members of his pack which he must help defend and those who are to be hunted. Still being a little one though, he maintains a lot of innocence that older members of his clan being to lose once they start undertaking missions.
History:
For the most part, Kohaku’s lineage remained a mystery to him. He was his father’s son - that’s all he ever really thought of it, and becoming a shinobi was simply his destiny. He trusted his father to help him fulfil it. As a former ANBU captain, the young shinobi always looked up to him and aspired to follow in his footsteps, hoping to become powerful and respected in the same way. Kohaku would always listen to his father telling him about the times he was captain and would help defend the village as best he could along with his loyal ninken partner, Aomaru, at his side.
Their family took care of several dogs who had lived with them for many years, in fact, growing up, they treated little Kohaku like a puppy, a piece of their pack; he’d play outside with them for hours, rolling about in the grass, and they’d guide him around the forests, keeping him safe while teaching him about the natural world. It was something he couldn’t explain, much like his father had this mysterious bond with his ninken, so did Kohaku have with them too; passers-by would give him weird looks and passed it off as childish play, but he could understand what Aomaru said to him, and often listened to him explain things, teaching him about nature and about the shinobi way which he himself was well-versed with. The big canine was very protective of little Kohaku much like his father which only made him more eager to get himself into trouble.
’Silly little pup,' Aomaru murmured, his voice gruff and authoritative as he watched a 5 year-old Kohaku playing in the mud and grass. The boy laughed and giggled at his protector’s words, poking his tongue out at the old dog who didn’t seem incredibly pleased. His father always trusted Aomaru to keep Kohaku safe but, unfortunately, he could never stop the boy from making an absolute mess of himself. Such was the way of the world. At least the little pup was having fun and slowly tiring himself out.
’Come on, let’s get you home, puppy,’ the old dog smirked, lifting the little one out of the mud by his arm and plopping him on the grass next to him, his clothes stained brown by now from copious amounts of grass and dirt.
"But I wanted to keep playing!" The boy whined and sulked in defeat. Aomaru barely said anything, simply shaking his head and leading the way from the woods and back to the house. It was starting to get dark after all and it probably wasn’t the best idea to camp out in the woods late at night.
"Aomaru," Kohaku’s father was standing outside, waiting for them as the pair slowly crawled back to the house, "I see little Kohaku couldn’t help himself," he remarked, giving a light chuckle as he lifted his son into his arms, taking him inside for a bath before his mother saw the state of him. Aomaru trailed behind and stretched out his legs as he stepped through the door, ready to take a well-deserved rest.
’He’s certainly a pawful if you ask me…’</I>
Just over two years later several other pups arrived. A litter of about three of them were suddenly running about the house before Kohaku’s father could get a handle on them. It seemed Aomaru had his paws full too, keeping them under control as best he could while making sure they got plenty of exercise from playing outside, something which Kohaku was encouraged to join in with as well. One of them, a cream-furred Shiba Inu puppy seemed remarkably like Kohaku in many ways; both of them would play around in the mud together and were often getting lost while chasing butterflies and rabbits. Naturally, Aomaru had to keep gathering them up but the little Shiba and shinobi were always together and one in the same, getting lost together and getting upset together when they were scolded by the old dog for running off. As the two began to grow together, they became close friends, completely inseparable just like Aomaru and his master. Growing up, they were barely ever seen apart; two little puppies sharing the same spirit, the same dreams, and the same aspirations. A bond was forged and nothing was going to stop them as they would grow stronger and closer together, day by day.
"It’s time for teamwork to be incorporated into your training Kohaku."
"Teamwork? What do you mean?" The young shinobi asked curiously, giving a small head-tilt in confusion.
"Your destiny, both of you," the man said, gesturing to the young Shiba, "the fact that you and Shiromaru have formed such a close bond is a clear sign to me that you’re ready to learn the secrets of what our family is capable of."
Kohaku simply gave a bemused look, looking down beside him at Shiromau, the Shiba puppy who was eagerly awaiting instruction from his new master while energetically wagging his tail about.
"We form such tight-knit bonds with our canine allies that we began to act as they do, even look as they do. Those claws and teeth of yours will make for deadly weapons in the real world and that sensitive nose will be a vital tool as they have been for me." Kohaku had already begun to inherit a bestial appearance from his father and mother, traits which made them all look savage and vicious, though Kohaku’s personality was becoming more and more intense as he grew up; he became hyperactive and could hardly sit still, at the same time he was becoming more excitable and energetic. After all, the Inuzuka were certainly known for their courage and fiery attitude, especially on the field of battle where it would matter the most.
"Not only do we share traits from our canine allies, but they too share traits and take after us. Our ninken are far more intelligent than the average pet and can intelligently communicate with us without any kind of difficulty." That was why Aomaru was more like a parental figure to Kohaku than just a family pet, though his speech ability seemed rather unusual; he was capable of understanding what Shiromaru was saying to him, but it was more a fact that they could speak the same language in a way - his barks, growls, cries, and whimpers were sort of translated inside of his head and likewise for Shiromaru being able to understand him perfectly.
"All of our family members share this bond with their ninken- your aunties and uncles, Kohaku. We are born to the Inuzuka clan and now you’re ready to learn about your birthright; how to use such a strong bond in battle to protect your home and your fellow villagers from danger."
Shiromaru let out an excited growl and so did Kohaku; the two were ready to train with Kohaku’s father and learn about all of the magnificent things they’d be capable of achieving together. This was going to be but the start of a long and fruitful brotherhood with both of them striving to ultimately prove themselves to the world.
