Yoshi was born into the to Isaki Gorou and Kamiko, whose surname has long since been forgotten. Kamiko died in child birth, leaving Yoshi to be raised alone by his father. Yoshi was definitely what you would call a wild child. It perplexed his father; he had all the wealth he could ever ask for, was treated well and raised right, yet he still was completely disobedient. By the age of 10, Yoshi almost never attended school; he would always find ways to avoid class. Truthfully, Yoshi loved his father and did not mean to make him worry. Yoshi found the pomp and circumstance of living in a wealthy household to be boring. Where was the excitement, the risk?
When Yoshi left the Mansion, he would head immediately to the docks. There, he would tag along behind sailors, listening to their tales of adventure on the water. He became a staple in the dingy haunts where interesting folks often came to drink and tell tall tales. Many of the sailors took a liking to him; it was hard not to. He was always found their stories fascinating. The thrills of a life without the protection of the Isaki excited Yoshi. Believing himself to be tough (just like the sailors he often was around), Yoshi began to pick fights with children around his own age. He would say something to egg on the other children, he’d call them weak or insult their clothes or rub his wealth in their face. He was, by all accounts, something of a loud mouth. He enjoyed fighting; the thrill of throwing everything on the line, it excited him. Yoshi would be carried home, unconscious, by those who knew him more often than he returned on his own power. Yoshi learned how to take a beating; even if he was small, his opponents almost never went unmarked.
Gorou wanted Yoshi to get off the streets and start to make something of himself. Since he wouldn’t focus in school, Gorou felt an apprenticeship would be the next best thing. So, on his twelfth birthday, Yoshi was placed under the guidance of a mariner as an apprentice.
