Description: The Kyuusaisha no Bakuhatsuteki (Explosive Savior) is a set of gloves wrapped in special explosive notes that detonate on impact. Kurogane usually hardens his hands with his Kyoujouran abilities just before detonation to assure he doesn't hurt himself. He bought the gloves in a strange shop that had all sorts of weapons and accesories most people wouldn't be able to use practically. As he usually has bad luck with relatively expensive things, this is the most expensive item he owns.

Iwakajiya Kurogane had not always been a resilient human being. He became what he is today due mainly to his parents, who had trained him as a child despite his antipathy towards it. Most people would consider the conditions he and his sister were trained in to be harsh, but they both somehow made it out of it with all their limbs and wits intact. Had either of them gone through the acerbity without the other, they would surely have failed in this endeavor. Kurogane still thinks back to his sister and parents every now and then, wondering if they were still alive, and if so, if they were still the same as he remembered them...
Outskirts of Konoha, Fire Country
The leaves blew off the trees in a haste as autumn slowly crept into the world, scaring anything from the plantae kingdom. Even the birds in the sky seemed to abhor it, making sure to get as close to the equator as possible.
The chubby, brown-haired boy tried his best to keep up with the deliberately brisk pace his father adopted since they left the gates of the comfortable village they lived in. His scrawny sister seemed to be able to keep up without botheration. It's probably because of her long legs, thought the seven-year-old, but the truth was simply that she was better at masking her discomfort. Their dark-haired father began slowing down and eventually stopped, turning to them. The boy was relieved, but his sister knew the worst was about to come.
Their father was a fortress in both body and mind, towering over them like a feudal lord over a peasant. He began to speak in his brusque tone. "You two have thus far only seen the simple training areas of the village, which are set up to not have as much danger as the real world does..." The boy didn't understand. If what they were put through in the village all these past months was supposed to be safe, what exactly was the 'real world' like? Sweat began to build up on his arms and legs. This would definitely not be fun.
His bronze eyes drifted over to his sister to try and decipher what she might be thinking. Her eyes were locked to their father. Very attentive.
"Kurogane-kun! Are you listening?? I swear, sometimes I wish you would pay attention to what I say the first time around, so I wouldn't have to repeat myself afterwards. Remember the punishment you received the last time?" The boy simply nodded, trying not to think back to the horrible punishment in question.
"Alright, so as I was saying, You both will have to use the skills you've learned so far in our other training sessions in the village to survive out here on your own until you see me again." His eyes moved towards the only female of the group. "I'm leaving you with your brother as a hindrance, to test your ability to protect others." The gaze became a bit more serious as it latched onto the boy. "You are blessed with your sister on this training exercise, but still, at least try to be less of an obstacle and more of a help for your sister. You two will be joining the academy soon and it would be great if you weren't the worst student in the class..." The boy nodded, understanding his situation, though he doubted that he could be as good as his sister, despite being one year older. His father grinned to show he wasn't all bad, then simply said, "good luck!" and disappeared quicker than either of the two siblings could follow. At last, they were alone.
"So, we should probably get started. You know he's probably still watching us right now..."
The brownish blob of a human being simple nodded with a shy look on his face. He knew they had to at least look like they were working hard at the beginning, and then later on they could find a moment to relax. He would rather relax now, since the trip here was so strenuous, but there was no time for that. It would be dark soon, and he had to find a place to spend the night with his sister out here in the woods.
She was already way ahead of him on that, rushing over to a nearby rock big enough to serve as a support for their new home. He thought back to their previous training, where they could barely build a small cave to sleep in. Now, together, they could make a decent room with earth jutsus. When they were finished with the base of the home, his sister created a comfortable-looking bed with some earth jutsu trick, but he could not do something like that with his inefficiency with earth manipulation. "How do you do that? Can you make mine?" She simply stuck her tongue out and giggled. "If I do everything for you you'll never learn, Kuro-chan! Try to figure it out yourself or just get used to sleeping on a hard surface..." He already expected that answer, but for some reason he still had hope that this time she would be a little more helpful.
"Well, I'm going to go get us some food. You can practice making your bed in the meantime. See ya!" His copper eyes followed her light-brown hair as it flowed in the air just above her back as she strode out to meet the wilderness.
Now he was alone. He wanted to just lie down and relax, but he always felt like his father would come in at any moment to scold him. Instead, he walked over to his sister's newly made bed and sat on it, feeling the detail in the padding of the earth. She was as artist with this element. How could she accomplish such a complicated task so quickly and easily?
Kurogane was determined to at least learn how to do that in this training. If all else failed and went wrong at least he wanted to show his father he could make a comfortable bed to sleep on. So he practiced.
His sister finally came back hours later with cuts and bruises and two fish in her hands, and a big grin on her face. "Start the fire, Kuro-chan! I'm hungry!" He worried about her cuts and bruises, and felt bad that he couldn't go out and help her out there so she wouldn't have to get hurt providing food for them. He couldn't even figure out how to make a bed like she does. How pathetic was he?
But making a fire was at least one thing he could do.
As the fish cooked, Kurogane tried to think of something to say to his sister. His mind seemed to be stuck on the size of the fish. They didn't look as if they could fill the holes that formed in their stomachs. If he could only help his sister out...
"So I see you tried to make a bed. That's not exactly right, but I can tell you got better!" She was always saying things like that to encourage him to continue doing it, he knew. "You should try to imagine the earth is like water, and you're trying to fill a cup without spilling it. Don't pack so much earth into the bed that it hardens up..." She smiled and turned to her fish. "I didn't catch big enough fish this time, but I'll do better tomorrow, hi hi..." He couldn't let his sister feel bad about it. "This is big enough!" He swiftly took the stick the fish was impaled with and bit off a large piece, careful to avoid swallowing any spines. "Tomorrow I should come with you and maybe help... Somehow..." His sister grinned. "Yeah, that would be gre-"
Both siblings quickly froze as they heard a roar outside. It appeared something was attracted to the smell of their food and the glow of their makeshift home. "I'll go take a look." Her fish was put aside to be finished later. Kurogane looked up to her and said "I'm coming too! I can't let you get anymore hurt than you already are!" His sister smiled, and just nodded at the idea.
But before they could go their earthen door was knocked down as if it was made of sand, and the largest bear they had ever seen stood on top of the remains of it, glaring at the two.
They both reacted quickly to the situation and used their earth manipulating abilities to knock the bear back a bit as they rushed to take the fight outside. The bear was not alone. Two more bears were waiting for them, and they began to attempt to harm them. Luckily, they got out of the way in time, and were able to rush into the woods, leaving their house behind. The bears, however, did not seem interested in their fish, strangely enough. Instead, they ran after the two, as if they were being ordered to.
"Man! This must be one of our father's tests! Let's stay close to each other, ok?!" Kurogane nodded as he ran next to her, somewhat out of breath.
They ran aimlessly for a while until Kurogane noticed something was missing. One second he saw his sister in front of him and the next she disappeared. He stopped in his tracks and scanned the area. It didn't take him long to notice her lying on the ground wrestling with a wolf. A wolf? How many animals were planning on attacking them in the forest!? He rushed over to tackle the wolf with all his weight and succeeded. the wolf flipped over, then rolled over naturally onto its feet again. The bronze boy looked up from the ground to his sister, hoping she was alright. She seemed hurt, but before he could stand up and help her out, she was attacked by another wolf from a different direction.
He turned to see the wolf flung into the air by an earth jutsu, and his sister scrambling to stand up. Kurogane took the opportunity to stand up, scanning the area for more enemies.
It was silent for a short moment save for the growl of the first wolf, then something flew down from one of the trees to knock the caramel-haired girl up into the air. Was it a shinobi!?
Time stopped for a moment for the Iwakajiya boy. His sister appeared to be shocked by that last attack, and didn't seem capable of landing safely. The "being" shrouded in shadows which knocked her into the air swung back into the trees. The wolf was running towards him with a mask of anger on its face. What should he do? He was being timed more than ever in his life, but he felt as if he had all the time in the world to decide. The wolf was probably the biggest threat, since it would soon knock him to the ground. After he figured out how to remove the wolf as a threat however, there was the question of following the shadow and trusting his sister's ability to land somewhere safely, or to ignore the seemingly flying enemy to go save his sister somehow.
Then, before he could finish his thoughts, time resumed, and he simply acted.
The wolf was knocked away with an accurate uppercut kick to the snout, and almost in the same motion, Kurogane turned to use earth to catch his sister. Just like water... Just fill the glass without spilling...
Success! His sister landed safely on a soft patch of dirt he created, seemingly unharmed.
One more quick scan in the area for the shadow resulted in nothing. Where did he go? Perhaps the battle was over?
Even the wolves were no longer there. All was finally completely quiet. It was probably another one of those tests...
Kurogane walked over to check on his sister. When his eyes caught her face, he couldn't help but laugh, despite the situation. She was grinning. "This is the best bed I've ever been on! Hi hi hi..." They both laughed for a while and eventually made their way back to their home.
The next day was pretty uneventful, and ended with their father coming to their home and knocking on the door. He was watching them the whole time, and set up the whole attack from the previous day, as they figured. Even their mother arrived, and they had dinner together in that small room before making their way back to the village...
If they only had more family moments like that...
