Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Hidden at a strategic vantage point, Youko applauded silently along with the crowd as the couple was pronounced newlyweds. She didn’t know them but watching the wedding alone made her happy for them. They would be spending the rest of their lives together, and she didn’t think there was any better way to do so when you’ve found your special person. She’d mentally bid them a happy life together, which would ideally last until death do they part. Though marriage wasn’t on top of her list of things to do, she hoped hers would be as magical as it probably is for the woman today.

She hadn’t planned on stumbling upon the ceremony. She’d only gone to the beach to watch the sea for a while, a little relaxation exercise she thought she needed. However, as she walked along the shoreline, she came across the wedding and ended up watching that instead. It still had a calming effect on her so she thought it wasn’t too bad she missed out on what waves there might’ve been. She felt giddier as well. As the couple led the guests to the reception, Youko sneaked along the back and stole a flower from the decorations. It’d serve as her souvenir for the day, as she would usually bring home shells instead. Before anyone from there could sense her, she already slipped away.

Quickly walking away from the wedding, she heard someone shout what she thought was a salute to the couple similar to her sentiments earlier. A little surprised, she walked cautiously from then, only to find a boy who seemed to have come to the beach for his own agenda. She found it hard to judge his age, gauging that he was almost as tall as she was yet looking a lot younger than her. The flask he was drinking from would suggest he was around her age, though she had a nagging feeling that was a wrong assumption.

”To lasting love,” she said as she approached him, fairly interested in finding out. Hopefully she’d have gotten his attention, though not in a bad way. She smiled as she stopped a good few feet away, waiting for him to react to her presence.

Although she raised her eyebrow at his response, she couldn’t help but grin along with him. She would’ve acknowledged the witty retort had she not been focused on going on with her point on alcohol, which was eventually lost as soon as Ikatsui had come.

Her gaze followed after Shoji, wondering where he was rushing off. Her heart raced for a second, thinking she offended him by inviting the Ikatsui as if she were the one who had been in that particular spot in the first place. She hadn’t planned on intruding. She quickly dusted herself off as she shot up, feeling a bit bad she had done so just as Ikatsui had taken the place beside her, and was ready to run after Shoji to apologize only to find him back with them -two towels in tow. He handed it over to both of them, something about sand being no place to sit on. The worried expression on her face cleared as she realized he had only meant well. She breathed out a sigh of relief before stifling giggles brought on by feeling glad about her possibly newfound friends.

The towel was soft and quite warm, and she pressed it close to her face as she let out a muffled word of thanks. Aside from breathing in the light trace of fabric conditioner, she used it to help stop her giggling. She was about to set herself up to sit on it when Ikatsui spoke.

”I don’t mind the sand too. I actually like sitting on it,” she said, ”But I will keep the towel, it’s very comfy,” she continued as she sat down again. Ikatsui started staring at the water then, to which Youko would follow suit. The blue of the ocean mirrored her own pools, save for the rings of gold around her irises. Knowing that she’d been partly named after the ocean had been a reason she was drawn to it.

”It’s very peaceful today, ne?” she said quietly, noting the calm waters. The weather truly had been perfect for the wedding. Although not much of a conversation starter, but hopefully enough to get the ball rolling.

During the three days the riot had been escalating, Youko had been unavailable. Earlier, she had been looking for their Sennin, in hopes of alleviating some of the people’s hostility. They hadn’t been receiving proper treatment for their illnesses. While she would defend that the hospital was having staffing problems, she knew they were still at fault for not fully performing their duties when it was needed of them the most. She was wondering what their branch could do for them now. With the riot building up, surely a response unit was supposed to be waiting by the outskirts of the chaos. However, aside from the staffing problems, the majority of the already-scarce number of medics wanted no reason to get involved with the mayhem. She had been scouting for willing volunteers from the available medics, but all were hesitant to lend a hand considering the people’s animosity was towards shinobi, feeling that intervening would cause more harm than good.

Frustrated at the lack of help she was getting, Youko had tried looking for other ways to help stop the uproar. It would do no one any good if this riot escalated further into a village war. Whatever the people were looking for, this wasn’t the way they were going to get it.

Luckily, sometime in the midst of her searching, she came across a group of people looking for volunteers. These people, led by Isaki Hoshitaka, already had a plan and were preparing to set it into motion. Glad for the alternative approach to the problem, Youko had signed up right away and spent the rest of the time up til then helping to arrange everything in place –from food carts to warehouses.

As Hoshitaka had led them to the crowd and found someplace where he could announce that there were provisions ready for the people, Youko waited amongst the volunteers along the fringes of the mob, fearing the worst when the crowd would have learned that there was food and shelter to be given out. She listened to the exchange going on as they were waiting, pursing her lips as she realized just how much their system had deteriorated. Of all she’d heard, it was the man who’d first said he’d help the people get through the Tower that she felt gave the right sentiment for the situation.

The crowd seemed to have thought so too, some having stood beside him. And as Hoshitaka told the people of his efforts, their job had begun. The distribution of the goods were to be done in an orderly manner, and with fellow shinobi alongside her, it was easy to make sure this rule was followed.

”Here you go,” she said, her lips a small curve of a smile as she handed over a bag of food. She made a few hand gestures next, directing them to the warehouses available for them.

Youko handed out food and directions quickly along her line. She could see the results of Hoshitaka’s plan already as a good portion of the crowd was leaving for their new homes. Despite this, a number of people were still left behind, remaining firm of their cause. She could get that though. This relief wasn’t going to last long and the villagers needed a permanent solution to avoid another decline like this.

She observed as the remaining group of people exclaimed that their leaders be set free from the woman’s illusion, wondering what else they could do for these people who wanted that solution right now.

It came in the form of a man, suddenly appearing right then in front of the Tower’s doors. He began to tell them how there was strength in their numbers, if only the villagers and shinobi worked together rather than against one another. It was a good point, certainly one she had hoped everyone would have realized, however there was the question of whether both parties would be willing to trust each other enough to let their collaboration work out.

She stood in shock as the man delivered what the people wanted from the beginning –a way into the tower. Recovering quickly, she stood tense as she waited for what would happen next when the man stepped aside the way in. He had allowed for something to happen that could either come with great change, or tear the whole village apart.

”I see,” she said, and quite understanding of his situation as well, ”We’re not quite on the same boat, but we are on the same page,” she told him, more or less saying she knew of what he might be feeling. It was the kind of feeling she was well acquainted with, though perhaps not to the same extent as his. It sounded like he’d been forced into his duties, whereas she was being pushed into them. She still refused to be the clan leader but she wasn’t refusing taking orders from her elders when she knew they were training her to be it.

She smiled almost cryptically at his question, wondering if he could by any means read her mind. Though truthfully, she hadn’t come to the beach to get away from anything specific. She’d merely wanted a break from the world -it’s noise and the restlessness of tourists included. However, if there was a line to be read between those words, she could say she was getting away from a couple of things.

”It’s not far from your situation, only that I still haven’t had the family dropped onto me just yet,” she said, ”It gets a bit draining when you’re doing the thing you love most but you can’t do it all the time because you have other pressing issues to deal with,”

Her knees brought up to her chin, she sunk her head into them though kept her eyes out to continue watching the horizon.

She felt that they’d just taken the nice day to a somber mood, which she thinks might not have been Shoji’s intentions considering why he’d come here in the first place. Luckily enough, they could be struck out of it as a shout was heard not far from them.

Immediately on her feet, she began to look around them, trying to pinpoint the source of the noise. Turning to Ikatsui, she said, ”Did you hear that? I think it came from over there,” Pointing to the general direction of where she thought the shout had come from.

She glanced at Shoji briefly, wondering if they could leave him lying on the beach alone and probably asleep.

”Do you want to check it out or should I?” she asked Ikatsui.

If she were to be honest, Youko could say the place hadn’t changed much at all. The flowers were still in bloom, albeit a different species this time around. The hedges were still trimmed to a nice size. A wave of nostalgia passed through her. Memories of her own time as a student flooded her, the emotion clearly visible in her eyes. Though there wasn’t anything too eventful, they had still been pretty fun times. Some memories were vague, like faces without features, or the edges of her mental pictures blackened, but she could easily remember what it was about. To her, it all seemed like lifetime ago, even if in reality it hadn’t even been a decade yet.

She felt old, then felt badly about that because she wasn’t old at all.

Her trail of memory hunting was broken when presently a girl had spoken to her. Younger than Youko, she assumed her to be one of the children on their lunch break, considering what time it was. Perhaps she’d be seeing more shinobi-to-be’s in a little while, though she was hoping no one would see them in return. While she had no qualms about sharing, she still hoped that this little area was private, allowing other people the same solace she found here.

Smiling at the girl, she said, ”Not at all,” She scooted over a few, giving the girl a place to sit in. It wasn’t difficult, and it probably helped that Youko had a smaller frame than what you’d expect of her age, ”And it is, quite so. A perfect day for an afternoon out,” she added as soon as the girl would have made herself comfortable.

Shortly after that, another child had come along. This time it was a young boy, beaming as he greeted them.

”Hello,” she replied, smiling in return.

Youko discreetly observed Yasuke as they walked. He seemed entrance by the world around him, taking it in quietly as they searched. He didn’t talk much along the way but she tried to indulge him as much as she could when he did. It felt awfully nice to see the kid smile –something told her it wasn’t something he did often, and it was a good feeling she was able to help him light up for a while. When they reached the place she was talking about, it didn’t take long for them to find the store itself. It was a charming place, and although small, it seemed that it was doing well for itself.

She was about to walk right in when she felt Yasuke halt by her side. She turned her attention towards him, wondering if there was anything wrong, only to see him looking somewhat embarrassed. His eyes shone with glee, but it looked as if there was something holding him back. Her eyebrows creased together in worry, but as soon as he started to talk, she slowly shifted her expression to that of gladness. She even tried to knock off a chuckle when he’d turned away from her.

“I’ll try not to be the next time we meet,” she said, a mock serious tone present in her voice.

”Of course not,” she said, more sincerely that time. There was a small smile in her face, feeling hopeful for him, ”Don’t feel like this is a debt. I’m not asking for anything in return,” she told him, because really she was only looking for dinner and she didn’t want to have to leave him alone, ”Look, don’t feel bad about it. If you want to return the favor, just enjoy the evening for me,” she said, extending her hand towards him. It was a symbolic gesture meant to show that she was only trying to be of help. Whether or not he’d take it was up to him, but after he’d reacted she’d lead him inside.

The inside Pizza By The Slice would be just as delightful as it was outside. It had a cozy feeling to it, enough to make anyone feel comfortable. It didn’t look full and it wasn’t busy at all. After asking for a table for two, they would be lead to their booth, right beside a window with a view of a sort-of plaza outside. There they could see people milling about, enjoying an evening stroll or each other’s company in benches. As they were handed their menus, Youko asked they be left for a while, thinking that perhaps Yasuke would like a moment or two to decide about what kind of pizza he’d eat, if the way he decided on what he’d be eating in the first place being any indication.

”See anything you’d like?” she asked, peering through her own menu.

”Oh no, I think he prefers something alcoholic instead,” she replied, though she let a giggle or two out when Keiatsu interpreted her words as Shoji drinking water from the sea. Language was quite a fickle thing, and word play was certainly something she appreciated. While that may not have been his intentions, which she guesses from how he acted, she still found it amusing.

Although what he did wasn’t exactly an indicator of good health, it seemed good enough for him. Though a peculiar character, Youko found him rather endearing, finding his cheeriness infectious. It seemed fitting Ikatsui had found him when he did, with where their conversation had left before they’d heard the shout. She was glad Ikatsui seemed to be more welcoming then too. They quieted down for a while, when Ikatsui suddenly grabbed at his chest. Youko’s head quickly turned towards him, though he seemed to have been in a hurry. He bade them goodbye before she could even ask what was wrong. Though concerned, she knew she shouldn’t pry when he didn’t seem to be willing, and simply waved along with Keiatsu.

As Ikatsui disappeared in a cloud of red, Youko tried not to worry about Keiatsu being right; or that his sudden taking of leave was not because of the growing crowd.

”No, no. I’m sure that was just a sort of transportation jutsu,” she said, casting a wary glance at where Ikatsui was last standing before turning to look at Keiatsu instead, who looked to be in deep thought, ”Hm, well I guess that leaves the three of us,” she noted.

”So Keiatsu, tell me about yourself,” she asked, more to keep a conversation flowing than anything. Though she was rather interested with getting to know him too. She’d met good people today, so she deemed it appropriate to get to know them past their names.

“Not really. I’m thinking about how I usually get children to stop fighting, listen to what everyone has to say, find the main cause and deal with it accordingly. It’s not children we’re dealing with, but I think the same concept can apply,” she told Kai, glancing at the pocket watch as she walked, “We might get a bit more insight to help us with that though, after tea,” she noted with a smile, following after what Qigong said. Youko nodded as he told them to ignore Genma –or Ghost, whoever that person really was, but kept the headset on his frequency, just in case. She’d turned some knobs a bit and hopefully he’d be hearing all he’ll need to without her parroting after everyone. She followed after the man, despite his pace being one she wasn’t accustomed to. Busy days at the hospital kept her at her feet and she’d learned how to make longer strides. She strolled leisurely when she could, but even those were rare. They were in no hurry though so she simply took her time trailing after Qigong.

Pretty soon they reached the teashop, which Youko didn’t expect to be a place that sold alcohol as well. She expected the latter’s odor to overwhelm her, already wrinkling her nose in disgust before she entered, only to find it didn’t. There was a lot of smells around, tea and alcohol. It didn’t feel particularly bad, or good. Qigong already ordered something and told them he’d pay for theirs as well. Youko turned down the offer, repeating that she was good, though asked for a glass of water instead. After Kai would make his order, if he wanted to or not, she would follow the old man to a table. She sat down in front of him, ready to hear what else he could tell them about the specifics of the mission.

It seemed that ‘doing something about it’ was already taken care of –a treaty written up by the monk himself. It was one that meant the clans would be surrendering power to the Mizukage, and if pride was what they were arguing over, Youko could already see that plan probably wasn’t going to go very well.

“I think it’s better if we can make them our allies, fix their relations between each other, and towards the village. That’s just me though. Kai?” she asked, turning towards her partner for this mission for his opinion on the matter. Although they would have to be forceful to make sure the endgame is reached, she thinks that it would cause fewer problems in the future if the treaty were signed with free will. And if everyone was on good terms with one another, that would lessen chances of civil wars happening, wouldn’t it?

Youko nodded as she listened to Kai’s opinions, knowing he could be right about that too. While her methods may have worked on children, she understood they might have to take different measures regarding the clans they would be dealing with later on. She was quite interested when he suggested getting them to work for the village instead. If they would be able to offer something in return for their service then perhaps they would be able to get them interested in serving as watchmen over the village.

“Good points,” she said, nodding her head to show she agreed. Perhaps not with all of it, but she knew he was right for a good chunk of it, “We’d still have to wait and see though,” she added, right after Qigong replied, who ended the discussion by leaving it up to what the Mizukage had ordered before asking them if they were ready for the next step. Youko nodded, following him out of the shop. With gate procedures handled and gotten over with, they were making good time indeed. There was little talking during the way, reminders from Qigong about how important it was to consider all the ways this could go wrong, and that we should approach each instance with as much tactfulness as they could.

“Quite a pickle indeed,” she commented, wondering if there was anyway this could do without setting off any fights. She was sure there was no avoiding that, and she even thought that maybe letting it out would help, but then that would’ve laid the risk of escalating quickly into a war, which was what they were trying to prevent in the first place. Perhaps it was stupid to hope discussions wouldn’t get heated, but Youko still hoped for the best.

She took into consideration what Qigong had to say, mentally writing it down and making sure to stick to it when things were looking bad. And with a nod, she went after him.

When she was without patients or finished with her rounds, Youko usually spends her shift hours inside her office, filing paperwork or studying otherwise. She always kept communication open, easily able to respond to emergencies or for when new people were admitted into the hospital. Such a case was today. As soon as the call had been made, she’d quickly taken off, just barely grabbing hold of her coat before exiting her office. She hastily made her way to the room assigned, placing on her coat and making sure she didn’t look as flustered as she’d felt when she entered. Awaiting her was another medic. He already prepared the room along with the patient’s records. Youko thanked him before entering, her eyes meeting a sight not too unfamiliar.

“Hello, I’m Youko. I’ll be your medic today,” she introduced herself, scanning his records as she made her way towards him to begin treatment. He seemed conscious, but it looked like he was in great pain. A concerned frown marred her face, remembering the list of injuries. She set right off to work, starting to apply pressure on the more serious of the injuries, the ones bleeding badly. She was careful to keep her touch as gentle as she could. Aside from an assortment of cuts and scrapes, who knew if he’d gotten bruises as well.

“You’re an awful mess,” she state quietly, like she normally did. It was a way to keep a patient’s mind from concentrating too much on the pain, if they were ever so heavily injured. Their reactions weren’t always pleasant, but she’d always thought them reacting to her at all was a good thing. In an even smaller voice, she continued, “But not to worry, I’ll get you better in no time,” It was that next statement that usually served as compensation for the jibe.

She began cleaning his wounds up as soon as she was able to stop the bleeding. She concentrated on keeping her movements as light as a feather, but still quick, cleaning the injuries directly and around it as well. She wondered which had been the cause of this much damage. Training was at the top of the usual reasons shinobi were admitted to the hospital. The second was missions. Once this stage of her procedure was done and over it, it was only then that she brought her chakra to her hands, allowing the soothing warmth of it hover over Taku’s injuries. Smaller wounds and shallower cuts would heal almost instantaneously, skin closing up with no traces of a scar.

]“Oh, well I hope everything’s okay now though,” Youko replied, not wanting to pry any further if that was all he had to say on the matter. She giggled when he mentioned Keiatsu, “He quite is,” she agreed, remembering just how much so. Despite Ikatsui’s emergency and Shoji having slept on them, it had turned out to be a pretty great day; it’d certainly been interesting.

She thanked the waitress as her order was taken and the glass of water was handed, turning to face Ikatsui again, smiling at him, “Sounds good to me. We had agreed it was quite a nice evening after all,” she said. The waitress didn’t seem to be as chatty as she was earlier, and perhaps that was helping Ikatsui focus less on, as he said, the negatives.

Her cheeks were tinted with light shades of pink, a compliment pertaining to doing a good job enough to fill her with glee. The best compensation was simply appreciation, and she liked to think the effort she put into doing her part for the village was still vital, however small of a difference she may make. She made a sound of understanding, realizing what he was implying. Smiling in return, she replied, “Perhaps life has its reasons for directing you towards that path, which is pretty amazing as well,” ANBU had never been an option for her. While she respected people who chose, or such as in Ikatsui’s case, were led into that profession, she doesn’t see herself fitting in as comfortably as she had fit into the Infirmary. When it had come down to it, she knew she was better equipped saving people by healing.

“Yeah, it’s become second nature. And it’s completely fine. I understood that it must’ve been pretty urgent, and now I know why,” she said. As their food came, Youko couldn’t help but take in the aroma, feeling her hungry claw at her stomach as if to say she’d better eat something quick, or it’d be eating itself.
