[fontsize="11"]Haroku Muo (note, Muo is in fact his first name) was the first of his siblings to be born into a line of devoted servitude. His primary mission in life is to serve and protect the Toshi family name, even at the cost of his own life. He had always taken his role more serious than his brothers. However when Takumi's mother, Toshi Mataka, was enrolled in Konoha's ninja academy, it was clear that he would have little influence in the ways of her security. As a result, his role had been softened to that of a butler rather than a protector. When Takumi was born, Haroku was relieved of his duty for several years. Instead of being introduced as the child's butler, he was introduced as a dear and beloved friend. As Takumi became older, Haroku reclaimed his duty on his own accord.
His record allowed him to develop a firm and forgiving personality. He was always warm and kind, but secretly concerned himself with the safety of the family name that he was sworn to serve. He developed a close relationship with Takumi. They shared secrets and played games, and he often helped Takumi with some of his many "mystery investigations".[/fontsize]

[fontsize="11"]As mentioned above, Haroku Muo was born into servitude. He had three brothers, each of whom were trained in the arts of combat and etiquette until the proper age. The Haroku family had happily served the Toshi family for several generations. Muo grew up much more attached to his duty than those of his siblings. He learned several styles, not necessarily inherent to the traditional ninja system in place. He also learned how to control and manipulate chakra. Most of his abilities involved earth-style attacks, almost symbolic to his firm and unyielding personality growing up. He was around 30 years old when Mataka was born, and he had been in service for a little more than ten years. He was often tasked with the sole responsibility of taking care of her, since her parents were very busy and extremely self-important. When Mataka became interested in attending the ninja academy, Muo was adamant upon his disapproval. He felt that it would be too dangerous and inappropriate for a member of the Toshi family name to sully themselves with the likes of a military career. However, Mataka was convinced that she could carry out the same responsibilities that was expected of her, namely diplomatic duties that often fell to the female heads, and still be a successfully shinobi. Ultimately her parents agreed, excited to have a Toshi within the ranks of the military officials.
Muo's concerns never amounted to much. Mataka carried out a very successful career, and rode on the back of her ranks as a shinobi to propel her diplomatic standing. Rather than being a protector, Haroku Muo was reduced to carrying out the menial duties of a butler rather than a seasoned guardian. However, his relationship with Mataka always remained strong. When it was time for her to get married and denounce her name as a Toshi, Haroku made the tough decision to follow her and serve her new home. Mataka was very thrilled, and she was quick to renounce Haroku's duties as a servant and accept him as a treasured friend instead. Haroku visited the family often, but he was awarded the freedom of owning his own home. When Takumi was born, Muo afforded the child the same amount of attention that he had once given Mataka. Takumi, being an especially cheerful child, responded with even greater affection for Muo. As a result, they became fast and inseparable friends.
In the wake of the devasting events leading to the fall of Konoha, Mataka asked Haroku if he would reclaim his duties as a guardian and look after Takumi. Muo accepted immediately. Together, Muo and Takumi were forced the leave the leaf village and Takumi's parents behind (while they remained to help the village back to its former glory.) They travelled, following many of the other families, by caravan, until finally arriving to the sand village which so graciously offered its doors to them. They were led by sand missionaries who were familiar with the situation in Konoha, and sought to save those families that had nowhere left to go. When they arrived in the village, they got a small house. Takumi was enrolled in the academy and graduated shortly after. When the anarchy hit, they were forced to abandon their house to the dangerous areas which surrounded it, and search for a new place to stay. Takumi, in his usual ways, tasked himself with finding a decent base of operations. He revealed a mansion that he had been monitoring for several weeks, noting that most criminal gangs would be well aware that it was empty given the many fruitless raids that he had observed. Together, Haroku and Takumi cleared out any homeless that had been living there, and established themselves in a secret room on the top floor.
Haroku watched in silence as his duties as a guardian slipped by into obscurity. He had led Takumi back into a hopeless situation, almost no different from the one that they left in leaf. Takumi was torn between this village and the one that he left. Several times, Haroku uncovered and thwarted Takumi's attempts at going missing. He knew that Takumi wanted nothing more than to leave and go back to the village that he had abandoned. But still, Haroku was familiar with Takumi's ways. He knew, deep down, that if Takumi truly wanted to leave him, he'd have found a way to escape the first day. Knowing this, Haroku believed that his friendship with the genin was in fact tearing him apart. He could only stand by while Takumi slowly lost his grip on reality. Maybe, then, the anarchy was a blessing rather than a curse? Maybe if Takumi could just build a relationship with the village while trying to save it, he would be able to regain his senses, and once again value the friendship that they once shared. Muo could only stand by and hope.[/fontsize]
