Just another unwanted infant, Naomi was found near the gates of one of the hospitals in the Village of Mist. Found to be healthy, albeit a bit malnourished, she was promptly shipped off to one of the village's orphanages where she was given the name "Naomi" for her beautiful doll-like features. Unfortunately, her white hair and unusual eyes gave her an otherworldly appearance that set her apart from most of the other children. Coupled with her small size, shy personality, and delicate constitution, Naomi tended to be picked on by the other children of the orphanage, leading her to avoid social interaction as a means of self-preservation.
One day, she finally snapped. Fed up with having mud smeared on her hair for the hundredth time, Naomi lashed out at the unfortunate boy who, moments before, had gleefully tossed the handful of mud that had just hit the side of her face. Losing herself to her fury, the young girl unconsciously channeled chakra to her fists when she struck out, catching the boy in the stomach and throwing him back several feet. He did not rise again. There was a moment of stunned silence from all, before the remaining children began crying and screaming as they fled in all directions. Not in any mood to forgive, Naomi went after them like a storm unleashed, years of pent up frustration finding an outlet at last. Luckily, the commotion attracted the attention of several onlookers, including a former Mist ANBU member who easily stepped in and halted the girl's rampage.
The incident ended in under 1 minute, with no permanent injuries and minimal damage. Recognizing first signs of chakra manipulation in the young girl, the former ANBU member chose to adopt Naomi, giving her a new home and the Kirameki surname. In hopes that Naomi would be able to use her talents for the benefit of Mist village, her new mother enrolled her in the ninja academy on the same day that she filed the adoption papers.
Just as Naomi began to acclimate to her new life, tragedy descended upon the Village of Mist. In the midst of an exam, a strange fog settled upon the land, creeping over the islands with the certainty of the tide advancing upon the shore. The temperatures dropped, and slowly, but surely, the tropical paradise of the Water Country became a frozen wasteland devoid of life. The Frost, as it came to be called, swallowed everything, sparing none; death and disease came upon the village, and the laughter that had once echoed through the streets was replaced by silence and the sounds of grief. Finally, before the return of winter, her new mother made the decision to leave, and the two of them left their old life behind, buried in the swirling mists. To a new beginning, in the Village of Stone.
