Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Having seen clones before, it was still something which kept Yoshihisa in check instead of blurting out more ridiculous lines which no doubt would make the exercise a whole lot more difficult. After all, he had not even an idea what kind of clones these were, so they might just be better off trying to work together instead of straining the poor relationship even more. "I think this weapon is a good choice right now because.." He looked at the pile of desks and chairs. ".. Because I have plenty of space to act now, I think? Plus our target isn't very big, so light weaponry will be in our advantage!" Yoshihisa nodded at Kamaru before he turned his attention towards Sumi, for a moment forgetting provoking her right now -might- in every sense of the word not be the right idea right now. "It's not that any weapons are needed when she gets her hands on him, but still."

His face had only a moment to turn pale by just a shade, knowing he probably has screwed up already, muttering the rest of his explanation. "It might be bad in this environment because it won't be able to save me from that much.." He scratched the back of his head with a rather sheeping smile before walking over towards Sumi, being on his guard to prevent himself from receiving an actual blow at this point. Clearing his throat, he leaned forward to whisper something to her. "Ehh, what does this 'Janken' technique do? Is it helpful in any way right now? Also, I have something called 'Body Switch', but it doesn't really seem to work as well if there isn't anything coming for me. Just.. thought it was worth pointing out.." He inhaled deeply in order to continue, but was nearly choking on his next words as another student rushed into the classroom. Her explanation might be enough of a reason to worry, considering there was no spear in sight, but he could only give it the benefit of the doubt at this point.

It was still quiet during the early hours as Yoshihisa made his way towards the gates of the town. Not that he, due to his nocturnal trips minded to head out without much light to guide his steps, nor did he deny the reasons for the local storage house to be supplied at this hour. Stores had to keep their stock well supplied in order to face another day, after all.

On the other hand, the young Shinobi was truly a child of his age, not so deep down inside thinking there might just be that more exciting mission in life than protect a few stashes of beans. Yet he knew that it wasn't the time for him to be requested to run something of a more challenging nature, so as he approached his client he could only praise whatever divine force there was out there that he had at least gotten his hands on something which had the possibility to tingle his senses.

Greetings, Ojisan. I was sent here by the embassy to help you out with your chore.

Perhaps calling this part of his profession a 'chore' wasn't the best course of action, as the man huffed without saying a word in response. Yes, it was in the village's nature at times, so he had learned to live with it. But Yoshihisa still wouldn't mind to be met with a more friendly face every now and then this early on in his career where the chores handed out to him where primarily given by the town folks themselves. Oh well, at least this one was able to help out, he thought to himself as the two of them each started rolling a barrel into town. Not a word was said during their trip through town, and they weren't met by any issues on the way over to make the delivery, aside from a steep ridge here and there.

Both were slightly out of breath from the manual labor, but as Yoshihisa made his way back to the embassy to bring the report of the mission he was glad that he had at least caught something that might have just been a smile on the face of his silent partner. So as the sun threw the first rays of light upon him, he couldn't help but smile himself.

It had been a oddly rich experience..

Harsh weather conditions, the elderly woman had told him. Freezing cold, she had told him. Right now, Yoshihisa hadn’t really experienced either as of yet, and by the looks of it he wouldn’t be any time soon. There was enough challenge however on his rather slow paced quest of finding the roots she had specifically asked for, as he had taken some of his steps the hard way in order to train himself as he went. And these harder steps weren’t all figurative speech. It had been mentioned earlier in one of his classes how one of the first steps of mastering chakra control was to climb trees, scale walls and even walk on water without as much as a sweat. Another step for him to overcome on his path to become a Shinobi, and one he was willing to fight for. So with already plenty of supplies gathered for the time being, he set on to solely focussing on his training.

Resting on his back after yet another failed attempt and following crash, Yoshihisa’s limbs were strained all over. He knew he probably kept Akeno-obasan waiting, but in the end he kept of trying, the thought in the back of his back telling him she would also get something out of it: After all, the most tasty roots were often the ones hardest to reach, right? But after what appeared to be hours and with the gathering clouds and cold wind threateningly rushing above him, it became clear that there wouldn’t be much longer before the upcoming storm made it impossible for him to keep going. With more effort than he would have liked to admit, Yoshihisa got back on his feet, just staring up at the heavens like there might be an answer there. But all there was was a faint rumbling and the first lightning strike roaring down from the sky. Perhaps it was better to keep a move on and just do as he was told to. They might have been slightly bruised by him falling down every so often, but at least the roots were still edible or edible to begin with.

As he walked below the ridge, Yoshihisa couldn’t help but hear the silent taunts of the roots he hadn’t managed to obtain. Being well aware of how incredibly foolish it might sound to others, all he could think of was giving it another try. It would also be the only chance of success he wanted to offer himself: Before even realizing it, the remaining roots were hurled down into the canyon below, giving him at least two worries in return. Not only would be fail now to clear the mission, but it would mean plunging to his death was going to be his most realistic course of fate if he didn’t master this technique. He decided in the end he didn’t care about it, as failing here and now would mean he most certainly would fail again elsewhere. The chakra building up in his feet was stable, despite these troubled thoughts. While it didn’t appear to be enough at first, the first quick steps left him a little wonky from the shift of position, but also the fact that he was now hanging upside down to look down at where he was standing moments before! It would only be a matter of time now before he would return to Iwagakure, hopefully with enough supplies stocked up to keep Akeno-obasan from being too angry at him. Without an doubt.

It had taken much from him in terms of time that had passed, times he had completely drained himself to the point of collapsing from exhaustion and the fact that he doubted if his blister-clad hands would ever fully recover from the whole ordeal. But as Yoshihisa lay on his back, barely able to even move or turn his head to look away from his hands, he couldn't help but admire how the small bolts of lightning were dancing in his palms. They now bore the fruit of his week long endeavor, finally reaching the milestone many academy students could only dream about: The sparks weren't there just for show, but actually were part of the first elemental jutsu he had managed to master, going by the name of 'Thunderfist' and was in terms of power really packing a considerable amount of power without too much of a recoil to begin with.

Or at least so he had been told, and so it had been what Yoshihisa had thought until the first day if training had come to an end. It was new for him to use actual offensive jutsu, and while he had heard that even the greatest of Shinobi had a set limit of how many times they could perform a certain jutsu before needing to rest, it had been the first time the boy had come to experience what this was truly about. And while he didn't feel much for spending most of his time recovering, there had always been a feeling that the arts of Ninjutsu would be the major path that he would walk for the remainder of his service to his village, to the people that lived there, stubborn as they might be at times. A faint smile started to spread across his face, realizing very well that he might just be thinking a bit too highly about his own wishes and dreams right now. But that wasn't very unusual for a boy his age, was it now? All he knew were fellow Shinobi or friends outside that circle who had similar dreams, some even greater than the other's, but all of them had hoped to be something in the end they could be proud of.

As he tried his hardest to get back up on his feet to continue his training, Yoshihisa's mind wandered off for a moment to deal with some unfinished business: Was this truly the affinity he was going to settle with, to explore what the Thunder's element could offer him? It wasn't something he should even be thinking as much about as he was, but while charging his fists with another load of static energy, he knew very well that it was in his nature: Both the call of the thunder and the bothersome trait to overanalyze every bit of information that was granted to him, thinking days, weeks, month if not years ahead in steps that might very well be out of the question when he finally got to it. With a sign he settled on the spot before all of the sudden he jumped up towards the old tree trunk he had been practicing near. And like the thunder roared above his head as a signal that the rain wouldn't be too far behind, so too did the crackling energy surrounding his fists before it was launched towards the tree trunk.

"Maybe.. live in the moment a bit more from now on? Who knows, it can't hurt."

The young Shinobi smiled once more as he made his way back towards the village, no longer paying attention to the flames licking away at the remainders of the trunk, nor would he be bothered too much by the rain crashing down from the heavens moments later to kill them after a short struggle: He had seen enough, after all.

"Henge no Jutsu!"

While only being shrouded by the smoke for a mere second, any bystanders with no extensive knowledge of Ninjutsu would have probably been amazed by the whole process that had taken place in the alley Yoshihisa had been waiting in for the past few minutes: Where just moments before there had been a boy not even close to reaching the age where smoking and drinking was going to pass by unnoticed, now there was an older version crouching in the dirt. Or people might have been saying it might just be him a few years from now, because that had been exactly the illusion he had been trying to weave ever so carefully for the last couple of days. He had been studying the looks and behavior of the people of this particular age group and the result might just have been able to fool himself if he was of a less suspicious nature to begin with.

And while it was true that offensive jutsu were, chuckling at the pun alone, more up his alley when it came to natural talent and progress overall. He used to be fascinated by the workings of the more simple jutsus, the ones with the wide array of uses that might just allow the bright of mind to gain the upper hand in a situation without even landing a blow. Or, as in the current case, something which wasn't even meant to have an offensive side to begin with. The boy couldn't claim that his next adventure was going to be completely innocent, but there you go: Gambling wasn't either, and right now there was a lot of savings riding on the result of this experiment, knowing that the smallest mistake would be enough of a provocation for the oldest generation of academy students and newest Genin tracking his every move from the rooftops to call an end to it.

But that was something he couldn't be thinking about right now, nor did his outer appearance show it: His 'older self' remained as calm as he could possibly be, mostly due to the fact that most of his appearance was covered by the large hooded cloak he had added to his appearance after a few days of making notes. It wasn't uncommon to be dressed with the protection of your identity in the back of your mind, so even as he sat down on one of the bar stools at the infamous "Kikuchi-Sama's 24 Hour Bar" his conscious was clear. And it should be, because Kikuchi was known around the village as a rather nasty person, 'arrogant' claimed to be his middle name and being the last to literally beat some sense into the children that bothered him, which would account for nearly every child that crossed his path. But before Yoshihisa had even time to mentally prepare himself to make the order, his 'host' was already upon him with the signature grin dripping off his face.

"Ah, finally someone showed up. What will it be, stranger?"

This was the moment where it would have been -perfect- to act like a normal human being and place his simple order. But no, fate decided that it was the perfect moment to instead turn up the pressure which made it very hard to keep his appearance the way it was. The only thing going for him was that he was 'just a stranger' at this point and could be doing something without it seeming like he was being too suspicious in the end.

"A bottle of Happoshu is just what I could use right now before.. I have to travel over to the next town. A hurry as they would call it, no."

Any other moment he would have slapped himself before he made himself think long and hard about how stupid the thing he said had sounded, but to his relief 'Kikuchi-sama' wasn't someone with enough manners to keep the illusion alive that he cared very much. His drinks were over prized, so he wouldn't lose anything in the sales was the one thing Yoshihisa thought to himself as he walked away from the bar a few moments later, leaving behind a good share of what he was going to earn with this bet. Mere seconds after he had cleared the corner to escape from the man's line of sight, the disguise was dropped and with an increased pace in breath he held the bottle of alcohol up to his fellow students who were waiting there, all not very happy to see he had managed to succeed in the end. And despite the buzzing sensation in his mind, it was like a respectable weight had been lifted from his shoulders once he heard their grudgefully agreeing mutters to his statement.

"I believe.. hehh.. I am the one of the winning side of his bet.."

If it hadn't been for his rather unusual upbringing, this kind of mission would have been far too hard to complete for him, and any academy student or first-time Genin on their own. Lugging around pieces of debris, wood, metal and stone alike were what Yoshihisa had been focusing on for several hours now, without an end in sight for as far as he could tell. Not that he had any issues with manual labor like this, but he knew the payment wouldn't even come close to justifying the amount of effort he had put in, nor justify the value of anything he had been salvaging so far. But he wasn't going to complain. He was well aware that not every mission was going to be to his liking or that all your moral factors could be met in the end. The fact that there was any work at all around here was already a form of luxury not every other Hidden Village could rely upon these days.

And besides, with his chore being something one could do without actually putting their minds to it, he had more time to think about how things had been going for the last couple of weeks. Yes, just like from this mission he had gotten away with some cuts and bruises, yet this time being the first to be caused by actual 'trash'. Minor injuries, and that was something he was thankful for in the end, having heard stories from Shinobi from the past wars at which point children his age were easy targets to get killed off by the hundreds, if not thousands across the various countries. It might be something he still had to deal with some day in the future, but right now he could be content knowing that picking up scrapnel and lost ninja tools from the training grounds where these states were being simulated was the closest he would get to it right now. As a Shinobi Yoshihisa still had to prove himself before he could worry about it anyways.

"Still plenty of time, I reckon. Exams are still a couple of weeks away from now, and even then there won't be anything major they could use a rookie for."

That thought wasn't exactly very comforting, and while picking up a few rusty old kunai he realized it was actually a lot more unnerving than he had thought. What if things -did- take a turn for the worse and such thoughts weren't valid anymore? Yoshihisa had never seen too far into his own future, always hoping to have just an ordinary life and that he had actually had plenty of time to have things go at the pace he wanted. Of course, even he had dreamed of having hidden potentials that would rock the entire foundation of the world in times of crisis, like many others. The fact remained that that was all just speculation..

"Well, sonny, I think that might just be enough for one day. Now go on, get on out before I change my mind about sending them crooks back at the embassy that payment of yours!"

Several hours of grinding thoughts and sore limbs had managed to take quite the toll on him, but Yoshihisa had done what he had come to do, despite not even knowing or caring if it was the right thing to do anymore. Young people shouldn't be considered healthy with thoughts like this, he was sure of it. Yet there was very little he could do but ignore them in a world where death was the only true release of your worries if you came to think about it. All with all, the whole experience had left him stumbling towards the outer rings of Iwagakure, nauseous and shivering to the bone. The walk to the embassy was going to be a long one, and it wasn't until much later that he collapsed on his bed, drifting off into troubled nightmares about things he was glad he wasn't going to recall by the morning.

Proving yourself in combat. It hadn't been the first time Yoshihisa had been applying himself for a bout in Iwagakure's proving grounds, but it had been the first time he had gotten back any response whatsoever. For a fact he knew that it must have at least something to do with the restrictions, mostly the loose ones that left spots open for people outside the academy to join in as well. But of course, just as much as the next student, he couldn't wait to get any random limbs handed to him by any random Chuunin or Jounin. This.. this was going to be troublesome.

But it couldn't be helped, mostly because there had to be some way for him to qualify for the next Genin exams, be it the hard way or not. "Eh, morning, Rin-Sensei! I'm.. here. Not the most inspirational words to be handing down to the next generation one day, but at least it was something, the boy Shinobi muttered to himself as he walked out to the teacher. Just as he was about to open his mouth to get an explanation for any of the questions that had been buzzing around in his mind, the mouths in the palms of his hands made a loud noise, in between gurgling and a really eerie yawn. "Uuurrhh.. Gigigigii!" Yoshihisa knew it wasn't going to get any less obnoxious anytime soon, he instead of complaining, he had already counted to tell, forcing himself to smile as he tried again. Mind if I ask what I can expect from these fights? I'm sure that it doesn't have to be explained that there will be a great gap in the amount of experience and.. confidence if it won't be within the limits of a student tournament.

A quick glance across the tools that were put out next to them made him realize that he was in luck, considering the fact there wouldn't have been a chance in the world for him to have brought along his own things today. He was already lucky to have found the proving grounds to begin with in his current state of mind! Not only had the thought of combat on these terms made him a bit concerned, there had also a far less subtle hint of stress in the form of the entities currently trying to chew at the hems of his shirt. But again, it was hard for him to deny their usefulness, having spend a good couple of days to hone his skills even further. Hopefully that would be something he could prove later on, if at all. It was very quiet around the arena, after all. Looking at it now: Where was everybody else?

"We define the boundaries of reality; they don't define us."

Far fetched as it might seem now, the words held a form of truth at this point. He had been going over it in his mind, trying to find out in which manual the words belonged, but he came out blank in the end..

Many hours had passed since Yoshihisa had made the mistake to let his fate depend on a weak sculpture of mud, clinging to the knowledge that clones weren't as easily corruptible by the changes in reality. But despite this, here he was, trapped with he didn't know how many people. The report had been vague at best, and he was well aware that the small cabin wasn't capable of holding as many people as he was currently looking at. Part of the Genjutsu, he was sure of it. Or was he now? Because no matter how many times he was telling it so himself, he hadn't been capable of releasing himself from the illusion to help out the client.

As the shadows from the walls crept up to him, he started to wonder how it had been possible for any client to go as far as to even make the request to be freed from the Genjutsu in the first place. While harmless, the "dream" -Even that he wasn't sure about anymore, he might just be awake right now- was indeed a way with great potential to cause an inconvenience for the client, one Takasaki Nomai. Once more forming the seals with the hopes of breaking the illusion, Yoshihisa looked at the ceiling before getting the confirmation he was still trapped in this place. He figured: The walls and ceiling alike had been changing ever since he had come here, once ever so often producing the sound of a glass object being shattered. Before it had made him cringe, more determined to make his escape and admitting his failure back at the embassy. Now, it was just a hollow noise to him, causing his head to be tormented by a dull pounding sensation.

"Great, another headache.."

Indeed, it hadn't been the first, and was aware it wouldn't be the last either. Both statements were made by whatever remained of the Shinobi's sense of reality and common sense, but in reality he wasn't even able to recall most of it much later. He wasn't even entirely sure how long he had been here, so if another headache could have occurred was knowledge unknown to him. The fact remained that ever since he had entered the building, a haze had taken the reins of his mind and hadn't been letting its guard down ever since. And now here he was, still trapped inside this place by a Genjutsu of unknown capability and cast upon by an unknown assailant. Obviously must be some reason for this person to pick this house above all others, so Yoshihisa wasn't completely in the dark from the beginning: He had taken along a pair of documents containing all the history the village could possibly produce about the owner and the history of his residence. Luckily for him, the Genjutsu, if any didn't seem to bother too much with affecting any inanimate objects aside from the house itself, leaving an opening to be exploited. That is, if he could get him thoughts together..

Inducing fear, that was the description behind it. And as odd as it might seem to an outsider, there was a chill running down his spine at the thought of being helpless, being unable to live up to the expectations not only he had set for himself, but others as well. Failure, even more so now he was finally traveling at the pace he had hoped, wasn't something that was to be tolerated. Not now, not.. ever..

"Not ever.. No. No simple Genjutsu will be keeping me here forever!"

The mouths inside his hands let out an high pitched giggle, seemingly agreeing with Yoshihisa for a moment before he realized what had happened: He was standing inside the room like before, but there were no traces of the previous nightmarish scene where it had left him. Or, now he looked at it closer, he could! There was wafts of smoke forming trails around the room, trying to shape another illusion for the boy, but unlike before it didn't seem to affect him at all. It was like he could just look past them, to see what was really going on. As he got in position in the middle of the room, forming the seals, he couldn't help but smile at this small, but hard earned victory. It wouldn't be until later that he would find out that the power of the Toujigikou had finally taken root in his eyes. And despite his mixed feelings about his inheritance, he would indeed look at it like a true victory.

The chain of events Yoshihisa had been facing during the last couple of days had been eerie to say the least. From the service releasing a local residence bound by an unknown Genjutsu to his so-called experiments to learning the physics behind the slavering maws now occupying his hands. Both he had managed to pull off after facing a hardship on the road, but in neither of those cases had he actually felt like there had been anything to make up for it. Duty or not, but these were scarring experiences he was left with in the end, not knowing what to do with them or if there was even somebody around to turn to.

"Bakuton- Haniwa no Buresuto!"

Or maybe he had been wrong? After all, he was facing the training sessions with more and more ease these days. With a loud gurgle coming from his gut, Yoshihisa bend over only to spew out a load of clay from his mouth all across his chest, watching as it took on the characteristic reddish before hardening. It was the first from a vast array of new techniques he had mastered lately. Or not new, considering it was just an enhanced jutsu, making it seem like there might just be about no end to the amount of surprises there were to face when it came to what the Toujigikou linage had in store for him. The thought alone was plenty to make the young Shinobi grin for a moment as he hid for cover behind the sturdy rock formation.

For hours he had been training at the surrounding coastline, hoping to get the best performance out of himself without getting too distracted by the building storm above his head nor by the waves viciously beating on the shores. Yes, he realized it probably wouldn't be long before he would have to head back home. Not so much as for the threats of the weather as it was for the fact there were barely any 'targets' left: Mixed in with the now mostly charred sand were the remains of the plant life unfortunate to find itself trapped on the makeshift training grounds. The considerable amount of gravel was evidence that there was still a lot of work to be done when it came to controlling his power however, having blasted large craters into the cliffside without even having intended to do so in the first place.

"Looks like there won't be anything else to gain for now. For as much as I am going to be bothered by it, something tells me I'll have to go and look for another place to train one of these days.. I guess it can't be helped then. Bakuton- Kamikaze Bomber!"

Eagerly chewing on a large wad of clay being fed to them, the two hand mouths were too busy to even thank him in their own unique way -Not that Yoshihisa was too eager to hear them screech anytime soon anyways-. But despite their differences, he couldn't help but think about their process of molding chakra to be most fascinating. It was something he would no doubt dedicate a lot of time to once more by the time he got back to Iwagakure, just not right now: The tongues lashed out to each other to combine their respective chunks of clay, leaving a small figurine of a Dragonfly in the palm of his hand. Crude now, but as he formed the seal he knew like the insides of his pockets by now, there was no longer a sign of the small figurine, only a large Dragonfly buzzing its wings to rid its vision from the smoke that had shrouded the scene only moments before. It could have actually fooled people for the real thing by now! Nothing could explain why he was proud of it, considering he wasn't the artistic type, yet as he climbed on the creature's back to fly off.. he couldn't help but smile at his creation.

"Next time.. I might give it two heads, eh."
