He looked at the sky for a bit. It was still going to be a long day even after he had just visited the city library. Jin had been preoccupying himself lately with the archives about Kumogakure’s origins and administrative records. As he had finally found a new home in this place, it was best to help out as best as he could. But going about it for days was probably excessive. This day was a quick one after the librarian found him ready to make camp in the library again, seemingly ready to have another all-nighter, before he was booted out. Something along the lines of too much research would take a toll on his body and he’d get sick. That’s a rather strange thing to say to someone like him, but he could only look in vain at the front doors of the library, his fox ears not as perked up in the loss of enthusiasm.
“So what shall I do today?” he asked allowed as he glanced about him. Perhaps, only then did he realise how out of place he was. His white robe attire and hakama pants and geta sandals were definitely sticking out and a few people had already glanced at him. True enough, he was still trying to get used to sticking out in the street because he refused to wear more common folk clothes. He was, after all, raised in a shrine and so the only clothes he could truly say that was comfortable for him was the ceremonial robes that he had always worn for as far as he could remember.
Just then, a nudge on his side would get Jin to look to the side and find Nakayoshi, his white wolf companion, brother, friend, loyal supporter. He was larger than most wolves, and his white fur was pristine. He nudged a jacket that was held in his mouth and Jin appreciated the effort.
“How did you know I got kicked out early today?” asked Jin as he accepted the white coloured trench coat and slipped into it. Even if he wasn’t really that cold– for it can be difficult for a reincarnation of a deity to feel the cold… he was sturdier than most. But he took it, anyway, because he figured wearing it would at least make him look a little like everyone else. Well, almost, save for his geta-sandals that left those awkward marks on the ground. Good thing it wasn’t snowing today.
In any case, the two would begin to walk, Jin trying to think where he should spend the rest of the day now that he was suddenly, and unexpectedly free. It was then when he stopped on his tracks and his ears perked. He glanced to the side as his golden eyes caught sight of a couple of men seemingly stalking a young girl. They were trying to blend with the crowd, but their whispering amongst them weren’t that hard to heard for someone of more sensitive senses like him. Then, Nakayoshi would step next to his side as he, too, would look on before those red eyes would look up to meet Jin’s.
“Thinking what I’m thinking? Good,” said Jin.
Almost at once, Nakayoshi darted across the street, bumping through the two thugs with ease and circling the girl they were targeting. Jin followed suit, stepping just right in between the two thugs that has been outbalanced by Nakayoshi. He was silent as the two suddenly looked up at him after cursing about that darn wolf. Then, he broke into a smile.
“Please be on your way. It’s not nice for adults to be stalking a young girl,” he spoke before nodding at them. Clasping his hands, he would smile wider,
“I’m sure everything was just a misunderstanding, right? Now, have a good day ahead of you.”
Perplexed by this strange fox-like man before them, the two were speechless before they finally got up and realised how tall Jin was and then broke into cold sweats before running away. Jin looked on, making sure they were out of reach, before he began to walk towards Nakayoshi who was now trying to get pats from the girl.
“Good day!” called Jin as he would come closer.
