Tatsuo’s father had told him tales of talking animals who had control over their chakra, just like ninjas did. He said some of the beasts ranged from giant toads to small dogs, and everything in between. The whole idea of an animal capable of fighting like a shinobi seemed to enthrall every childhood imagination of Tatsuo’s. Imagining that branch to be a giant snake charging right at him, to the squirrels being spies for the enemy, it made too much sense in Tatsuo’s head. Despite the fact he’d never actually seen a talking animal. His father however also told him, that they were only found in remote areas, avoiding the normal bustle of people. Ever since Tatsuo had arrived in the Lighting Country, he had thought of wandering off to go explore a bit. Unfortunately for him, the rest of his party kept a close eye on him he never had a chance, until now.
Tatsuo’s head really hurt, he wasn’t in the best of shape after fighting those spiders and bumping his head at 1000 Blades, but he’d probably not get another chance to avoid both Kaji and Umashi. He looked up from his bunk, to see Umashi sprawled over the bed, he had slept under the window so he was illuminated by a faint moonlight. Sneaky down the bunk he was careful not to awake anyone. His cloak fluttering behind him as he was using it as a makeshift blanket as the inn was way too hot for a real blanket. Luckily for him, the door was slightly ajar letting him slip through with little noise to alert his supervisors of his departure. When he was finally in the hallway he allowed himself to breath and make his way downstairs. There was a boy about three years his senior sweeping up the floor, but he was the only one in the main lobby of the inn. He nodded to Tatsuo as he went for the door. “Stay warm, it’s cold at night.” Tatsuo nodded as he closed his cloak around him.
Port Cirrus was incredibly quiet, which provided the already nervous Tatsuo with no comfort. If he were to be caught sneaking out like this, who knew what his fellow Shinobi would do to him. Instinctively, he took off his headband, stuffing it in with his waistband. He wouldn’t want anyone to report a young Leaf Shinobi walking around in the moonlight, now would he? Even if he was probably the only soul walking around at this hour, he’d rather be safe than sorry.
After passing many dark alley ways and closed shop faces he finally arrived at the makeshift gates of Port Cirrus. One of the guards shook his head in contempt as Tatsuo made his way outside of the city, he heard them say “Some parents these days just don’t know how to take care of their kids.” To which one of the other guards laughed and said “A kid running around at this time probably has no parents.” Tatsuo was too worried to confront them so he just quickly made his way away from the encampment and into the outskirts of the farmland surrounding Port Cirrus.
Another hour or so travelling and he truly found himself in the wilderness, there probably wasn’t another human for miles and if there were, he really didn’t want to meet them. He looked down at the forest below the cliff face in which he stood upon looking for anything out of the usual to begin his search.
