General Description: Tall, dark, and strong. Kasumi stands at five-foot-six, and is likely to get taller over the next year or two. She is a lot stronger than she looks, as she was conditioned from birth to do heavy fieldwork (even if she was never very good with it). Kasumi has deep black hair, and she doesn't cut it very often (she's paranoid about scissors, yes, really). Her eyes are dark, and due to a medical condition her pupils are in a constant state of high dilation; due to this condition Kasumi usually has to wear a special pair of sunglasses to avoid being blinded by normal amounts of light, however she is also capable of adapting to low-light conditions faster than normal since her eyes are already adjusted for it. Kasumi is very adaptable in her choice of clothing, and will switch outfits as often as the situation calls for it; generally, she prefers clothes that are easy to wear, but she can adapt to just about any outfit if given enough time.
History: Kasumi is the youngest child of a relatively large farming family, and from an early age her parents tried their best to teach her how to help out on the farm. Unfortunately, Kasumi proved to be a rather clumsy child at work, and over time proved nearly useless in the fields. Kasumi tried her best to help her family; but each attempt, no matter how determined, was met with comical amounts of failure. Even worse, it seemed that Kasumi couldn't even leave the house without becoming an instant danger magnet! Eventually her parents decided to keep Kasumi indoors as much as possible, relegating her to simple house chores. Kasumi was better at housework, but she was still unfortunately clumsy, Kasumi's parents didn't know what to do with her, as far as they could tell their daughter was woefully incompetent at any form of manual labor despite being quite strong for her age. Kasumi knew her parents were disappointed in her, and she wanted to prove her worth to the family, but no matter how hard she tried and work she did was mediocre at best. Despite this disappointment, Kasumi still managed to make friends and have a relatively pleasant childhood.
Kasumi's life changed several months ago, a travelling shinobi visited the farm on his way to a nearby town; he was a recruiter, his job was to scout out potential chakra wielders and take them to his hidden village for training. Several of Kasumi's siblings tried to impress the shinobi, but he was indifferent to them. Kasumi could care less about the man; she was content staying home, and a clumsy girl like her wouldn't be good at ninjutsu anyway, right? The shinobi, on the other hand, seemed keenly interested in Kasumi and insisted on using his sensory jutsu to try to gauge the young girl's potential. Kasumi tried to refuse, but eventually her parents convinced (or possibly forced) her to go along. The shinobi discovered that Kasumi had amazing natural chakra reserves, and could possibly be a potent ninjutsu wielder! It didn't take much convincing for Kasumi's parents to let her go with the shinobi (they didn't really have much say in the matter anyway), Kasumi was a little more reluctant about it; she didn't want to leave her home... she had to be coerced somewhat.
Eventually the shinobi brought Kasumi to his home of Kumogakure; once there she was given an apartment to live in, a pair of corrective sunglasses which helped her see better (and make less of the clumsy mistakes which plagued her early childhood), a small allowance to buy food and training gear, and her new status as an academy student. It took some time for Kasumi to adjust to her new life, and she often still dreams of going home, but for the most part she has faithfully carried out her duties as a new student. Time will tell if Kasumi excels at her new career.
