Shortly after returning home from his latest mission, Sashin found himself already sent out back on another. This time, thankfully, it was unrelated to his previous two missions regarding the missing merchant supplies. It was like a breath of fresh air, in a way. Having recently infiltrated a group of mercenary, and walking a tight line, he was at least relieved to be given something as simple as this D Ranked mission he was no on. He simply had to find a contact, deliver a message, and get the hell on. As he found himself walking down the country side, he thought about it. "I wonder why they didn't just get a group of trainees to do this." He questioned, as he shoved his hands into his pockets, and looked towards the ground as he walked.
Along the way, he'd kick at some of the pebbles in the road; pushing them down further as he walked, where he continued to kick them further. "I did what I was told. I investigated and interrogated that one guy...." He thought to himself, pulling his hand out his pockets. "Nah, the higher ups have their own way of doing things. This must be for a reason." He said outload, as he glanced around squashing any thoughts on this being a form of punishment that he had lingering in the back of his skull. Placing his hands behind his head, he sighed as he continued to walk.
His destination was Crater City. A city within the Fire Country full of lowlifes and scum. "Oh, crap that's why they're sending me." He told himself. It had just dawned on him. Everything he had ever heard about this place was bad. It was full of crime, illegal activities, and criminals. It was no place for someone without some sort of higher leveled training. "This might to into quite the adventure." He thought to himself, as he stopped to stretch. Sashin could fill his blood rushing throughout his body, as he began to warm up. "Can't wait!" He shouted, as this giant of a man took off in a sprint.
The thrill of a possible fight, or at the very least, some sort of entertainment after the last couple of days had him a bit worked up. As the sun began to set, Sashin pulled off the side of the country roads, and set up a campsite for the night. He knew his journey would take longer than just a day or two, so he had properly prepared before heading out. Pulling out his axe, he began to chop some smaller trees down and strip them of their branches. Collecting those branches, and leaves, he started a campfire and laid out his bed roll. Soon after, he reached into his supply sack and pulled out a large onion, a potato, and a steak individually wrapped in their own separate foil.
A starch, a vegetable, and a meat; a basic meal, but a meal nonetheless. Placing the meat off to the side of the campfire, with the potato and onion more directly into the coals, he relaxed a bit. As he waited for the campfire to cook his food, he eventually laid back and looked up towards the sky. By now, the sun was long gone and the moon had appeared within the sky above. "I never really noticed how countless the stars seem to be." He thought, as the smell of his food cooking filled the air. As his eyes shifted, he began trying to connect the stars in his head. As time passed, the smell of his food filled the air all around him. A smile would cross his face, as he leaned up and reached for the foil.
"Ahhhkkk!" He said, as he grabbed the onion wrapped in foil before dropping it to the ground. Shaking his hand, he sighed as he reached towards on of his pockets and drew a kunai. Stabbing the foil, he picked up the onion, slowly unwrapped it, and grained. Placing it down, he went for the steak and did the same. After waiting a few minutes, and pulling out a fork and knife from his travel sack, Sashin began to eat. While some might think it was odd, Sashin loved the taste and texture of a baked onion more so than that of a steak. "Overdone a little." After finishing the baked onion, and starting on the steak. After a while, a soon began to check on the potato he had left foiled in the coals. Poking it with his fork, he watched as it sunk right into it. Smiling, he pulled it from the coals, dusted off the ashe, let it cool a bit, and then unwrapped it as well.
This was a simple, yet filling, meal. Taking the time to enjoy every last bite, he'd soon stoke the fire with some more branches before heading to sleep. Morning would come quickly for him, as he awoke and began cleaning up his gear. Other than a heavy meal, and the view, there wasn't much else to enjoy. The ground had left his back a little sore, but after a few minutes of stretches, the pain was gone. With a loud yawn, he got ready to get back on the road to Crater City. As his journey began once again, he stopped and enjoyed another new part of the country. This city he was headed too was in the opposite direction of the small village he had recently visited twice.
While he knew that, he thought about some rumors he had heard from fellow Anbu branch members. Illegal activities took place in Crater city, and amongst them some of the most dangerous deals were done in the sewers. Almost as if it were a city underneath the city itself. Recently, he had given himself a cursed seal and began practicing to master it. He wondered if anyone down there knew anything about them, or had some weird way of better utilizing something such as them. "It might be worth checking out." He thought, curious of the possibilities. Sashin was dead set and mastering the use of his Cursed seal. While he knew how to inscribe them, he in truth knew very little about them.
Within minutes, he'd find himself at a cross roads. Up until this point, he knew where he was and had just continued on. However, at this moment he stopped to pull out an old school map of the country. Finding a place to sit, he studied it for a little while. Immediately he recognized some points on it, like the village, some ports, and even Crater City. Having found his destination, he took a few minutes to trace his steps by locating the road he was one and figuring out exactly where he was upon it.
After a few minutes of looking at it, he realized that he had walked to far south. He could double back, and follow the road, but it would add a significant amount of hours to his journey. Not wanting to do that, he kept looking at the map and realized he could cut through a forest and cross a river. Doing that would set him back on track, and maybe even a couple minutes ahead of schedule. Folding the map up, and placing it back inside his travel sack, he glanced up towards the sky and made note of the Sun's position. Once he had that figured out, he darted off the roadways and into through tree line. Something like this was unlike him, but he didn't want to waste to much time and potentially have some explaining to do to his superiors.
As he crossed the deep terrain of the forest, he kept his Tremor Sense technique activated as to not be caught off guard. As far as he knew, there was nobody around him for miles on end. Aside from a few animals, and the vibrations of water, his senses picked up nothing but the landscape around him. "Hey boss, I didn't pay attention so I got lost and had to cut through a forest." He spoke, aloud, for nobody to hear. At this point, Sashin was just being a smartass about his situation to himself. With a slight chuckle about it to himself, he finally found himself approaching the river that had been show on his map earlier. Focusing the chakra on the bottom of his feet, he slowly stepped onto the riverbed and adjusted to the current of the river as he began to walk across it.
Every Shinobi had learned this skill, at one point or another, during their Academy years. It was astonishing how handy it was. Upon reaching the other side of the river, he let his focus drop and he continued beyond the trees on this side of the river. His journey was long from over, but the thought of that did nothing to deter him. Even if this was just a D Rank mission, he was going to complete it as soon as possible.
